Dolphins coaching was a problem versus Bill

There are complaints aplenty about the Miami Dolphins today.

Some of them come from fans, as blogs, message boards and radio call-in shows will be loaded today with complaints about play-calling and coaching.

Some of the complaints come from Miami's locker room and coaching staff. That's the one I decided to focus on for my column in the Miami Herald Monday. Players and coaches alike looked at their fourth-quarter collapse against the Bills, a collapse which turned a 14-7 lead into a 31-14 loss, and everyone agreed the Dolphins have a problem finishing.

The Dolphins are perhaps the NFL's worst team at finishing games. They've blown games against Indianapolis, New Orleans, and the Bills in the final stanza this year. They also got outplayed by San Diego in the fourth quarter of that game.

Read the column and answer the following question: How does a team that cannot finish games, expect to successfully finish the season?

As to matters not in the column:

The coaching by the Dolphins staff was horrible on Sunday. I have great respect for the Miami coaching staff because I believe they often get the most production out of some limited talent. But this blowout upset loss was different.

This was embarrassing.

The facts are the Dolphins were facing an inferior team on Sunday. The Buffalo starting cornerbacks of Leodis McKelvin and Terrence McGee did not play on Sunday. The Buffalo offensive line was missing two starters and had another dude playing out of position. The Buffalo head coach is a rookie. And Ryan Fitzpatrick from Harvard? Really?

The Bills had nothing to play for but pride while the Dolphins' season was on the line.

Then one has to understand the Dolphins had 10 days to prepare for this game.

And the Bills still won?

"We've got 10 days to prepare and I didn't do a good enough job obviously preparing them," coach Tony Sparano said. "I've got to do a better job."

Sparano, the former play-caller for Bill Parcells in Dallas, has to do a better job of riding herd over offensive coordinator Dan Henning. Henning, who has forgotten more football than most people will ever know, is normally a fine offensive coordinator.

Sunday was not one of those occassions.

Consider that on Miami's first possession the Dolphins moved from their own 45 yard line to the Buffalo 3. Chad Henne completed a 15-yard pass. Ricky Williams ran for 11, then 7, then six, then 5 yards. The Bills were on their heels.

And then on first-and-goal, Henning got cute by calling a halfback pass for a player that hasn't thrown a pass since 2000.

Interception.

Momentum lost.

"Yeah, you know, I got the ball and Joey Haynos was supposed to block the outside linebacker and then go, and I saw him, and I just didn't put enough arch on the ball and it was picked off by the backside linebacker," Williams said.

But why call the play at that point? I can understand if the Dolphins weren't running well? But they were rolling. Not smart. They used their best runner to throw, thereby not using their best runner's or best passer's greatest assets. Not smart.

Sparano relegated the criticism of the play-call to "Monday Morning quarterbacking" and said the problem with the play was in its execution. It sounded like a coach who would prefer to blame a player than another coach for a play's failure.

There were other head-scratching offensive calls also.

In the second quarter the Dolphins took a 7-0 lead and then stopped the Bills on a three-and-out. Then the Dolphins complete a pass for 11 yards, Williams runs for 6 yards, Williams runs for 5 yards. And then Henning gets cute again.

He calls an end-around to Ginn on first down. It loses 4 yards. And you know what? The Dolphins make 11 yards on the next two plays but have to punt because they needed 14 yards for a first thanks to that reverse, So that reverse to Ginn costs the Dolphins a chance to keep driving.

The Bills then get the ball and tie the game at 7-7 on their next possession.

Finally, can I ask about continuing to force the issue with Pat White? He is neither one of the team's better runners nor it's best passer. And yet he continues to get plays at strange moments when Miami runs its spread option.

White ran once for 2 yards on Sunday. When did that first taste of action come?

In the fourth quarter. Right after Buffalo took a 17-14 lead. What changed at that point that didn't happen in the three previous quarters when Miami was winning? What was the freakin' point?

The defensive coaching staff doesn't get a pass here, either.

We all recognize the Dolphins are starting two rookie cornerbacks. We recognize they are talented. And we recognize they are capable. But why put them in one-on-one coverage a large majority of the game, every game?

Hello? Other teams watch tape, also ...

It is begging for a game-changing TD. And the Dolphins got exactly what they were begging for when Terrell Owens caught a 51-yard TD pass over Vontae Davis in the fourth quarter. Fitzpatrick said he recognized the coverage pre-snap and called an audible.

Dagger to the heart.

One more thing: We keep hearing how Cameron Wake cannot get into games more because he is a work-in-progress as a run-defender.

Well, how long does it take to coach up a player to defend the edge of the defense? We're 11 games into the season and Wake's still not ready to tackle somebody running wide?

And if Wake isn't, what makes coaches think Joey Porter is ready? Porter blew edge run assignments time after time on Sunday. Yes, he had a couple of sacks against reserve tackles. But that was Porter blowing the run defense against Fitzpatrick as the Ivy League QB set off on a 31-yard TD run.

So the young player can't be taught to defend the run 11 games into a season and the veteran can't be reminded to keep his assignment discipline? Yes, the players have a responsibility to get this done. But the coaches have an equal responsibility to make sure those players do their job or take a seat on the bench.

Anybody that thinks Henne isn't going to be a good/great QB is pretty much an idiot...there is no other way to explain it or put it...watching this kid play in just 8 games and his maturity and skill level is incredible...he has the size, arm strength and brains and is an all around QB...When Parcells gets him the rest of the pieces to go around him, he will put up big numbers and have a huge career

I don't know what to say accept that I agree with everything you said 'Mando. For the first time since the Sparano era began, I can say that I'm rip-sh*t at this coaching staff. I've been angry at them before (Indy, New Orleans among others), but this is the first time they've cost us an important game against an inferior opponent. The honeymoon is now OFFICIALLY over with this staff if it wasn't before. That was an embaressment yesterday for which the coaching staff should be mortified.

Sparano has lost the team. This was never more evident than in the 4th qtr. Coaching changes needed.

And yes, coaching was poor yesterday...that first non-touchdown probaly turned that game around...go in and score there, you demoralize that team and run them over...by throwing an interception you gave the Bills hope and pumped up that crowd...but the coaches aren't the only ones to blame...the players do have to execute, the Defense was shaky, Henne was a little high on his throws all day and of course the O line let pressure In which caused Henne's arm to be hit on the throw twice for int's..the players need to execute and block because they are the ones playing the game on the field, not the coaches

HEY GUYS, LOOK AROUND THE LEAGUE...EVEN AT 5 & 6 THE DOLPHINS ARE ONE OF THE BETTER TEAMS.

WE WILL HAVE A WINNING SEASON. WE MAY NOT GET TO THE PLAY OFFS BUT THAT WAS DUE TO OUR EARLIER LOSSES, MORE SO THAN NOW. WE ARE SHORT BROWN.THE LINE AS GOOD AS THEY HAVE PLAYED, HAVE HAD INJURIES. GIVE HENNE ANOTHER YEAR GET RID OF GINN AND GET ANOTHER LONG THREAT EVEN A CAST OFF WOULD BE BETTER IF HE IS NOT AFRAID OF GOING OVER THE MIDDLE AND HAS 1/2 WAY GOOD HANDS. THE "D" NEEDS A COUPLE OF KICK A- - LINEBACKERS. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY WE NEED "PRIDE" IN OUR GAME AND CAN'T LET UP BE IT OFFENSE OR DEFENSE. "NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER EVER GIVE UP" WINSTON CHURCHILL...(but then again do any of the players know who Winston was?)

Well said Mando. When the score was 14-14 with a little over 2 minutes left and we kicked out of our own endzone

I wonder if taken the safety would have been the better option. Then free kick and let the D stop them with better field position. As it was, Buf was already in field goal range on the punt return.

Sprano is not going ANYWHERE..he is Parcells guy that is going to coach this team right to the Superbowl

Well said Capt Crunch!!!

RIGHT - COACHING needs to get better!!!

I still think we are doing a fine job with the limited talent on Offense - what do we have??? A rookie QB, injured Offense Line, injured sarting RB, no 1s at receiver - no gamechaning TE - REALLY what do you expect???

DEFENSE is another story - after spending 2 years in a row with high draftpicks on Defense - the coaching needs to get better. It looks like other Offense coordinators are figuring our gameplan out in the 1st half and exploit it in the 2nd half - on the other hand there is no change up by our Defense coordinator to counter their attack - looks like he is not very flexible or maybe the system is. KISS - keep it stupid simple is a term used a lot in Football, but too simple is stupid if you don't have Pro Bowl level players on your Defense who can cover one on one (just yet). Even their QB figures out the coverage and calls audibles to kill us. And that was Fitzpatrick - not Manning or Brees. PLEASE get more creative on Defense or bring in a new guy or start to play the Tampa 2 with the bend but not break philosophy which at least could keep us in games in the 4th quarter.

Cheers

Well, Henning has poo poo'ed a lot of Dolphin drives over the weeks with some sketchy play calling.

I have to agree with Mando on this one. WHY change the script inside the 10 when the old script was working just fine?

That INT was a game changer. It should have been a nail in Buf's coffin.

With the 10th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins pick...

My greatest satisfaction is when my team wins.
My 2nd greatest satisfaction is humiliating the fans of other teams that need a win.

With the exception of NE all other teams we are playing are fighting for the last wildcard spot, as are we.

If we go 3-2 we will f u@k up the the
lives of millions of people for a whole offseason.

very much agree with you bobbyd12, poor poor coaching. You score a touchdown instead of getting fancy and you demoralize their team, plain and simple.

He would be even better if they let him play for 60 minutes. Not 55 minutes or even 59 minutes. He needs to play the entire time. Touch the ball every snap the rest of the season.

Cause guess what...penni will be back next year.

I blame NJ & his syncophantic entourage for allowing the coaching staff to escape their errors uncriticized. Instead of attacking other commenters, maybe NJ should turn his attention to the team..........but then again, there's no "NJ" in team.

I agree with Price master and overseas, Lets see what chad(neck fat)Henne can do in 60 minutes, and lets please end the Ginn and White experiment once and for all.

A playoff-caliber team would not make these mistakes. You wanna know how to let a bad team win? Let them think they are in it in the 4th qtr.

1) HB pass was a ridiculous call

2) Why does our defense insist on going soft after every score?? Up 7-0 and they give up the tying score on a QB run.

3) 4th and 1 and we get it, but holding calls it back. There goes a potential 10-7 halftime lead.

4) Drive 9:05 for a score after the half and the "rested" D gives the tying score right back on the ensuing possession.

After that, nothing else really mattered-- the Bills had hope in the 4th Qtr.

Realistically, this game should have been 24-7 Miami in the third quarter after the long drive. We left 10 points on the field because of bad play-calling and bad penalties.

When T.O. caught that 51 yard bomb I said to myself, "I said SELF we don't have that capability"

Even though we have NUMEROUS chances to get a deep threat WR. But we stuck with the runt Ginn.

That pass to Ginn that was knocked away. I keep replaying that on the Tivo.

HE DIDN'T EVEN GO UP AND TRY TO GET IT AT IT'S HIGHEST POINT. He took off like a sprinter, head comes up (ball is away), turns and just sticks his hands out. Didn't even TRY to go vertical!

just watched sparanos news conf this guy is amazing he didnt even address the ridiculous ricky pass call and like always he said this guy had a good game and that guy played pretty good and there were only two mental errors blah blah. this guy has a screw loose and is way out of touch

Overseas did you expect anything else from Ted(.70 yards after reception)Ginn, the guys a true coward, Lets end the Ted(no nuts)Ginn experiment now, and send him and his family back to Ohio.....

COWHER IN. Crowder out, he sucks take pat white with you I can't believe we used a second round pick on him what a waste. bag the season we are not going anywhere any way. Draft DEZ BRYANT NEED PLAY MAKERS IF YOU NEED HELP WITH THE DRAFT TUNA AND IRELAND, CALL ME.

matt,

some one is calling you . we need miners to work.

I'm gunna call for a all Alabama draft:

1. Rolando McClain ILB (great intincts, smarts)
2. Terrance Cody NT (yes a strech for him to fall but...)
3. Mike Johnson OG (nasty run blocker)
4. Javier Arenas CB (playmaker, KR)

We could get rid of Crowder and Ginn in another yr, and then Smiley who cant seem to stay on the field.

We should atrget WR, OLB, and 2nd tier NT via FA

Lets get off Sparano. He has taken a team with no talent at all except a couple players and turned them into a playoff team and a decent team this year. Let's face it. We have almost nothing in talent. They have picked good players who will develop into a nice team but thats not this year. But coaching is responsible for three losses this year. Mostly due to the offensive coordinator. I live in Charlotte and he coached here and was run out of town. Not very well liked exactly because of the stupid things he does out of the blue. He is doing the same there and needs to find another job. For the right now, Sparano is good enough to call the game for Parcells then he needs to override bad decisions by his OC. He now sees that he is making foolish calls and Sparano needs to stay aware and override them. This is getting ridiculous. We have the best running game in the NFL this year so we pass? We need to pass yet have no receivers in the game? We do play action when not called for? We run a screen pass inappropriately to the situation? These are things our offense can't overcome as they are and the OC is responsible and must be axed!

Bill Cowher, hummmmm.... What is this guy doing not coaching, the tuna either needs to coach next year or give Bill the keys to the sports car, I dont think tony is the answer, I mean you build through the draft, you lose certain people and you add people, i think the same thing is the same with coaches, what do you think????

2 bad coaching decision that may have cost us 2 games this year (saints and bills). I still think they're doing a heck of a job with mediocre talent.... But I can't see Henning hanging around for much longer. But I can see this.... "Sparano and the Weiss guys"

Sparano's press conference revealed him for the fraud that he is...........no accountability, no truth.

Ross must act if Tuna won't.........Cowher Power!

Lots of holes to fill..Tony did great last year with the talent he had, but it's also the undoing that's happening this year, look at the schedule this year it was brutal, 8 and 8 was all i was expecting, though with only 5 games left i don't see that happening either..Though I think better coaching would have brought 2 maybe 3 more wins i hang it all on coaching decisions...

If the 2009 NFL draft went down the way I would want, it would look like this

1. Rey Maualga ILB
2A. Mohammed Massaquoi WR
2B. Sean Smith CB
3. Kennan Lewis CB
4. Shawn Nelson TE
5A. Duke Robinson OG
5B. Chris Clemmons FS
6. Andrew Gardner OT
7. Rashad Jennings RB

@ bobbyd12
Check out what Dan Marino did in his rookie season (in 11 games) at age 22. Even you can't decide whether Henne is going to be a good or a great QB.
Henne has failed to show us he will be a "great" QB; he has shown us he can be a good QB. Which would you rather have?

Great comment about C. Wake but also, when (if ever) P. Turner will be ready (?????) to play?. We were out coached by a rookie (intern) coach.

THANK YOU MANDO FINALY YOUR STARTING TO POST IT, IVE BEEN SAYING FIRE OUR CORDINATORS ALL YEAR, SPARANO IS A DECENT HC, NOT HIS JOB TO CALL THE PLAYS, THATS WHAT HIS CORDINATORS ARE FOR, HOWEVER HE HAS THE FINAL SAY, AND SHOULD HAVE SAID HELL NO TO THE HB PASS ON FIRST AND GOAL. MANDO YOU ASK THE QUESIONS, ITS TIME TO BURN THE COACHS, IVE BEEN SAYING TIME TO NUT UP OR SHUT UP ALL SEASON, THIS IS THE FINAL STRAW THE FOURTH GAME OF THIS SEASON BLOWN BY HORRIBL COACHING DECISIONS ALL GAME, AGAIN I LOVE YOUR TAKE ON WAKE NOT STARTING, WHY IN THE HELL ARE WE DOING ONE ON ONE WITH VONTAE, ON T.O, INSTEAD OF MATCHING UP 6'3 SMITH, OR AT LEAST DOUBLING HIM. JESUS I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT I COULD DO A HELL OF LOT BETTER JOB COACHING THESE GUYS, THAN WHAT WE GOT NOW, IM FINISHED WITH THIS TEAM, UNTILL WE FIRE OUR CORDINATORS, SPARANO YOUR ICE IS THINING..

Just listened to the sparano presser from today and I can't beleive not a single question regarding the play calling. Mando what
s going on with the press these days?

Y does every one hate Henne he had a bad game but he made alot of great passes 1 int was his fault the other 2 were tiped by the front line guys let this kid develop!! He's a rookie and has been doing everything he can with what he has lay off him!!! All u guys that jump on the ban wagon are all non fans when we beat the bills and the jets you guys loved him now he has one bad game and u all hate him grow up this kid has been doing an amazing job! You can take Brady or bress and make them our qb and they will do the same as henne cause we font have any one like Jeramy shocky or Randy moss grow up and relize it's the te and wr that are holding henne back time after time I see our wr and te can't beat man on man so if ur gonna blame henne blame the wr and te!!!

Henning is drinking his own Kool-Aid. He gets so much credit for implementing the Wildcat that it seems like he let it go to his head. All those head-scratching reverse calls and option calls with Pat White are completely out of place. Rather than keeping opposing defenses on their toes, the Dolphins end up shooting themselves in the foot and being their own worst enemy when they make Mickey Mouse play calls like Henning made yesterday.

Coach Henning, we all recognize your vast football knowledge far surpasses that of us fans, but even my 82-year old grandmother knows asking your best running back to throw a pass in the exact situation you'd want to use your best running back's running abilities is downright idiotic. Get it together, man!

Just wake me up on draft day!

**Warning wall of text read only if you want one fan's logical perspective of things**

I think I have figured out the Dolphins problems this year. I wont go into the obvious things like bad WRs or overall play calling, etc. I will stick to a few points that might have caught a few peoples eyes before and just sorta harp on it a little bit. It simply comes down to stubbornness. This coaching staff has its own philosophies and ways of thinking and will ride them straight dead to the ground instead of changing them mid-season. Regardless if it is obvious to everyone else that their philosophies are not working (5-6 record) they will continue to do things their way. Here are a couple points I think will prove that I am at least partially right.

- Wildcat - I like it, but only when used correctly and at times when it will be useful. Relying on it like the Dolphins do is hurting more then helping especially now that Ronnie Brown is done for the year. The pass yesterday was absolutely wrong. But here is point one. Sparano actually justified the call like he does every week. "To be honest, the play was there," "it was something that we saw on film." Sparano said. "We just didn't execute the play properly."
Ummmm no dipsh!t I just watch 5 or so plays that says they can't stop you. Lets see I have several dozens low risk plays they haven't stopped yet to pick from or I can go with a play that has a higher risk then reward that film says they can't stop, which one do I choose? I don't care what you see on film, I don't care if the Bills had holes bigger then a freakin' black hole in the defense, you NEVER run such stupid plays when logic screams out loud they can't stop you, haven't stopped you, wont stop you, running the freaking ball! But "their" philosophy overrules logic and they went with the wrong call again and it cost them 7 points.

- 2nd half/4th quarter defense - Does anyone else see the coincidence in that the Dolphins sub in more players more often then any other team in the league and in turn have the worst 2nd half/4th quarter defense in the entire NFL? Coach's philosophies states that it keeps legs fresh therefore they can play at their top level throughout the game. Well news flash, you are doing something no other team is doing and you have 6 losses now to go along with that worst defense to show for it. How about not subbing in so much since you the professionals can't seem to figure out why the hell you suck so bad in the 4th. Subbing as much as the Dolphins do creates nothing but disrupted rhythms for players. But I don't except any change here, "their" philosophy states its better to keep those legs fresh then to develop player rhythm. On a side note this same philosophy also is hurting the offensive side of the ball. How else do you explain the severe ups and downs throughout the game on the offensive side.

- Pat White - This is not college, and no matter what you think you can do, the NFL will never be college football. I don't have specifics but I would guess that the Dolphins have pulled in a grand total of about 75 yards for the year when Pat White comes on. 75 yards in exchange for disrupting your quarterback's rhythm game in and game out. Not to mention bringing him in at the weirdest times in the games. It hasn't made sense all year, even when something good happens I find myself still questioning it. But I guess that philosophy of "well we drafted Pat White we have to use him" is just lighting up those stat charts.

- Veteran player loyalties - You hear people asking why Matt Roth just got released for lack of production, but just had a 7 tackle 1 sack game with Cleveland or why doesn't Cameron Wake get more playing time. It's simple. It's Veteran loyaly. Nothing else can explain why Joey Porter is still starting over Wake. The coaching response is that Wake is not a complete player yet, mainly his run covering duties. Umm??? Last time I checked Porter was a sack specialist that was ok against the run. And the last time I check Wake was a sack specialist that was ok against the run, but has been getting more QB pressure more consistently then Porter. So I am not seeing the picture here why Porter is not the backup and Wake is not starting. Matt Roth may very well have been release for reasons other then given, but if you go by the reason given then how do you expect Roth to give better production when you don't play him enough? Its like they say ok Roth we are going to give you 20 plays a game to start, but you have to have 10 tackles and 2 sacks out of those 20 plays or we might look at it as lack of production from you. It is not just Porter either, same goes for Taylor, Crowder and whoever else. No player should be starting when players coming of the bench are producing as much if not more then your starters, you might want to think about switching those roles instead sticking with your current ways of thinking. You just might get a little bit more production from the unit as a whole.

Ok I have more but this wall is getting a little ridiculous so I will just keep it to these few points.

The reason playcalling sucks is because the coaches feel they have to make crazy calls to win with the players we have. Look at the wildcat, it was an experiment. We just need more talent, obviously at WR.

Good coaching can compensate for lack of talent assuming you at least have a certain minimum level of talent, we don't have that at WR.

Some observations:

1) There were some odd and frankly stupid coaching decisions in yesterday's game. But nothing was so stupid as many of the comments on this blog.

2) I appreciate that the above comment is nasty, and it may hinder the chances for a 2016 Dodsworth/Menace run for the Presidency/Vice-Presidency, but isn't it about time our politicians gave us some honest answers?

3) If you watch "Inherit The Wind" (1960), you can see Spencer Tracy and Fredric March constantly trying to upstage one another. They were having fun. What great actors.

4) I keep getting the same "sissy" injury that ended the career of the great Jack Lambert - turf toe.

5) Yesterday's game notwithstanding, Dan Henning is an outstanding offensive coordinator who has gotten relatively high production out of a woefully undertalented offensive unit.

6) Whenever Jackie Gleason would laugh on "The Honeymooners," he'd always start to wheeze. It always makes me laugh. I love seeing fat asthmatics wheeze.

7) I know you're wondering - Mr. Dodsworth, why do YOU get to run at the top of the ticket, and Cuban Menace gets the Vice-Presidency? It's quite simple - as the cliche goes, Vice-Presidents do nothing but attend funerals. And I know Cuban Menace (and the entire free and civilized world) are looking forward to the funeral of a certain dictator who terrorizes an imprisoned island 90 miles from Florida.

8) Mark in Toronto will back me up on this - you can not get a better hamburger than a hamburger from "Harvey's" restaurants. Let's sing the jingle Mark:

HARVEY'S MAKES A HAMBURGER A BEAUTIFUL THING.

Sparano is doing fine in this fan's opinion. In a season and a half this is the first truly poor showing of a Sparano team. give the guy a break.

Henning on the other hand garners more scrutiny with his play calling. Sort of fimiliar of Mike Martz or Cam cameron, two offense "genuises" that get abit too fancy at the wrong time.

Think about it. The game was tied with a little over two minutes to go in the 4th QTR.

We lost by 17 points!

That's a total breakdown at the coaching level.

Nate,I like most of your posts but right now maybe you need to just shut up.

I hate to say it but this team is UNINSPIRED.

Not one player or coach stands out as a true leader. I like Tony, I really do. I just think he is being too soft on the coaches and players. If they can't do the job then put a pink slip in their locker or on their desk.

Great post Mando!

How did Sparano's Pro Bowl inside linebacker Mr Crowder do? Oh let me tell you he had 4 tackles and a roughing the QB penalty... Mr Crowders gaudy season totals: 35 tackles 1 sack no forced fumbles in 9 games that is a whopping 3.89 tackles per game. Gee Tony those sure sound like Pro Bowl numbers to me!! Let the real players play, bench the guys that don't produce including Crowder.

I don't think any of the coaches should be fired at this point but I do believe Tony needs to shorten the leash!

GO FINS!

I didn't think the 2009 Dolphins would be a playoff team. So I'm not surprised that they are now out of the playoff picture but disappointed because there were several games that they could've/should've won and they just couldn't finish. Is it the players? coaching? Injuries? Combo of all 3? Though they aren't going to the playoffs, they have much to play for: pride, momentum for 2010, and most importanlty their jobs!!!

I don't have issues with Sparano as a coach but he has made some questionable play calling lapses this year. I would give him a chance. As for henning, never liked the hire-i always associate him with "losing". Knee jerk reaction/opinion-fins need to upgrade the OC position.

Back to loserville folks! The Dolphins, Heat, and Panthers suck... The Marlins and Hurricanes are solid, but... It's pretty sad when the city's best team (Marlins) doesn't even make the playoffs!

let's lean house ...FIRE OR RELEASE THE FOLLOWING INCLUDING SOME FANS ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Armando,

This is great article. Some of your best work. I echo your sentiment exactly. Shame on the dolphins! Shame on the Coaches! Shame on the players! shaaaaaame

Armando - I think it is time for you to write a piece on Crowder. His lack of production is horrible. Also, has he ever made a big play? Mediocre would be a nice thing to say about him at this point.

Nate,I like most of your posts but right now maybe you need to just shut up.

Posted by: payuengsnwings | November 30, 2009 at 02:06 PM

Done.

But just one more thing -

In the history of cinema, no leading man has ever fallen so fast or far from fame as Gene Kelly. Think about it. In 1951 and 1952 he came out with "An American In Paris" and "Singin' In The Rain" and then ....?

Zippo. Sure, he continued to make films, but NOTHING that extraordinarily well done or popular.

I watced chad henne while he was at michigan and know for a fact that he is a BEAST when he is in the shotgun 4 wide. My question is why dont theY put him in the shotgun more in the two minute drills so he can see the field better. I agree with you all on the BAD PLAY CALLING. I mean come on, WHY RUN A PLAYACTION PLAY WHEN YOU ARE DOWN AND THERE IS NOT ALOT OF TIME LEFT IN THE GAME? I am not a football coach but i know that you are not gonna run the ball!!!!! DOLPHINS NEED TO START SPREADING THE FIELD AND GIVE PAT TURNER A CHANCE SO HENNE CAN HAVE A BIG TARGET!!!!

Carlito,

what do you mean that this post is armando's best work? that's insulting to him since all he wrote is very basic and any any one can figure it out after the fact .

No doubt the coaching will need to improve. However, there are three players that need to be cut in the off-season: GINN, PORTER, and CROWDER. If you watch these guys, they continue to fail when it comes to basics: blocking, catching balls, tackling, containment, angular pursuit, etc... We had a prayers chance to make the playoffs before this game, now we only have a statical chance. What is also troubling is that C. Henne is having disastorous flashes of idiocy. I thought we had a good-young QB, and if his Jeckl & Hyde performacne continues, then we will find ourselves looking at another two or three years of rebuilding. Let's hope C. Henne gets his act together while he has this brilliant opportunity to excel...

Went to theDolphins game in San Diego, Same Crap, ran all over San Diego! get to the 1 and the Village idiot calls a pass, a pass What!!RUN the Ball. Please get rid of Parcells he is not watching these games, if he is he needs to be fired really.
If he is, his Coach needs to go they lost all the games this year. That's right from the Colts to the Chargers to New Orleans opp's shound't have called that time out before halftime really!! Lost to The happless Bills!!

Chargers all over again, throwing the ball at the 1yd line poor blocking. Please you fools run the ball!! Parcells heard so many excuses from players he just cut them, well it's time big fat Tuna to do something here with the coaches, getting paided from the ticket holders for you to do something, then do something. BUFFALO BILLS did it and beat you. Watch the Titans do it to start After a 0=6 start now have the same record as US no more excuses.

Disgrace you didn't get Chambers a guy that wanted to be Back in Miami, loyal got traded, Oh doesn't make sense to get him WHAT!! T.O. SMOKED the D NOT there Fault didn't Blitz that QB fool enough. Buffalo's line was so weak parcells you could have ran in there for a Sack.! The Coach gave away the game! I didn't prepare enough. Mr Parcells you really don't care about this team, gotta love Jerry Jones at least he's ass that tries to fix things what have you done to fix the Finns?
NO CHAMBERS, NO DEEP THREAT! NICE YOU CUT ROTH, YES YOU. You are the only one that can do it. You could have done that a week earlier and could have picked up Chambers the week before and now with KC Catching everthing. That KC team will be the Dolphins hate to say it But All the coaches have to go yup, Even Parcells let him go screw up the Browns.Oh don't for get Ireland the puppy lap dog to follow him too.

As much as it pains me to say it Mando , I can't disagree with anything you said !

The only excuse I can see for the coaching staff is they were throwing "plays" in there with the Patriots in mind and I'm not even going there.

Nathaniel your chit is getting old. STFU Only the fool menace cares for you.

blame NJ & his syncophantic entourage for allowing the coaching staff to escape their errors uncriticized. Instead of attacking other commenters, maybe NJ should turn his attention to the team..........but then again, there's no "NJ" in team.

NJ please defend thy self!!!!!!

A dude on the Giants pratice squad told me the following joke about 9 years ago:

Q:Why can't a Dolphin give you change for a dollar?
A: They're only good for three quarters!

This is a joke that circulated around the NFL. Time to make it public..
