Victory Monday update from Tony Sparano

The players were off today but the coaches were working and this is what coach Tony Sparano's view of his team is 24 hours after the 30-25 victory over the Jets.

First, after getting the game ball for his two kickoff return touchdowns against New York, it seems unlikely Ted Ginn Jr. will be getting added special team duties as Miami's punt returner anytime soon.

"Right now I'm thinking we'll leave it the way I have it and coach the heck out of it," Sparano said before adding that punt returner Davone Bess, who had a fumble on Sunday, "can't make bad decisions" on his returns.

I think this is a mistake. Ginn played only 22 snaps Sunday and, while he remains limited in what he can do as a receiver, he does have special and elite skills as a return man. So why not use those skills more?

It might be easy to forget that in college, Ginn returned both punts and kickoffs and was actually more explosive on punts. He returned 64 punts for a 14.1 yard average at The Ohio State University and six of those were for TDs. He only returned two kickoffs for TDs.

Ginn actually returned 9 percent of his punts for touchdowns while returning 5 percent of his kickoffs for touchdowns. But hey, Miami's coaching staff is insistent that isn't going to happen right now.

Of course, they were insistent on not letting Ginn return kickoffs until Patrick Cobbs blew out his knee.

Sparano didn't say whether Ginn gets his starting WR job job anytime soon, but did say there were two pass plays against New York on which Ginn got behind the defender and quarterback Chad Henne was unable to get him the ball.

On other subjects:

Sparano said he attempted the two-point conversion when the team was up 11 in the fourth quarter because, "I was trying to take a scenario out of play in that the only scenario that could beat us was two touchdowns."

In other words, Sparano wanted a 13-point lead so that the Jets could not tie with a touchdown, a two-point conversion and a field goal or win with one touchdown and two field goals. Obviously Miami failed on it's bid for the conversion.

This season in the NFL two-point conversions are successful approximately 30 percent of the time.

On the subject of Miami's two rookie cornerbacks, both of whom will be under much scrutiny this week with Tom Brady and Co. on the schedule, Sparano was generally pleased with Sean Smith and Vontae Davis.

"Both picked different points to play well," the coach said. "Both had bumps and that's what's going to happen."

Although they combined for a total of 162 plays, Sparano said the cornerbacks had no mental errors. There were, however, technical errors that numbered in the single digits between the two that need to be cleaned up.

By way of a player update, Sparano said rookie receiver Patrick Turner's "had a couple of good, solid weeks of practice right now and he's getting better and better. I would say sooner or later we'll see him."

NJ,

Mr. smarty pants name a school that does consistently, consistently being the key, turns out HOF recievers. Let me guess, none because there are none. HOF reciever are pretty much sprinkled in from all over the place. If you could name one school that has 3 over the past 50yrs that would be great. Nobody can claim a recipe. LMFAO@YOU again.....

Don't get Sparano at times...Why not let Ginn return punts? Same reasining he called that timeout last week before the half so the Saints could regroup and score a TD? Same reasoning he went for a 2 point conversion yesterday which put us in jeopardy? Same reasoning for not playing Cameron Wake more often? The guy had 3 sacks in 10 plays against the Bills and he's sat on he bench ever since. Maybe Sparano is not the sharpest tool in the shed...

NJ played for a big 10 team my azzzz! Please people, the lying about your personal life on this blog is get out of hand, come on.

Ok, had enough, I read this dribble for laughs but now you people are was too damn dumb! everyone's a Monday morning coach and/or GM.
IF, and that's a big if, laughing because it really doesn't matter anyway, you're all idiots, but if you all know so damn much about everything, YOU coach the team, YOU manage the personnel, and YOU play the game and make all the plays! How's that sound??? I mean, you're all genious's and experts. and oh yeah, Jets suck ass! Now get me more pizza.

U know, i was an all-star point guard at NORTH CAROLINA in my hay day, ppl said i could've been the next micheal jordan if i didn't throw my bac out on the last game winning shot***LMAO***

BillParcell: note from JDove, dolphins defender, please sign Chris Chambers, He'll be just like Jason Taylor on Offense, reborn again as a Dolphin player and motivated to prove all these so-called Dolphin hater wrong! He didn't want to go to SD in the first place! He's a Dolphin period! He wasn't motivated to play in SD, but he will be dynamite in Miami! Fast, sure-handed, and a playmaker! Plus he'll sign for the minimun to prove he can still play.

Don't get Chambers!!! Make do with what we have and sign Vincent Jackson in the offseason!!!!

There worried Ginn will get killed on punt returns.. Thats why....

God get Chambers we need all the help we can get at WR and play Ginn on all returns and bring him in to stretch the field on thrid down and every now and then on first down but don't Start him this guy needs to feel like he has somthing to prove to perform so let's play with the mans emotions like he's played with our : ) it for his own good!

I'm willing to bet that for every penalty called against the Patsies, they'll call 5 against the Dolphins.I REALLY hate the Patsies. I hate Brett Favre too.

Ziggy, I feel your pain. I believe that Sparano has the ability to become a good HC. But he's got to have the courage to find some better assistants. Henning-out Pasqualoni-out Bonemego-out. Won't even go into poor personnel decisions....many Sparano doesn't have anything to do with.

On Chambers: NO. We had a chance to get Boldin but it's too late now.

GET CHRIS CHAMBERS PUT HIM AT THE X.

PUT GINN AT THE Z BECAUSE HE SUCKS GETTIN RELEASES FROM THE LINE AND THAT EXTRA SPACE WILL HELP HIM.

LET HIM DO KICK AND PUNT RETURNS.

OUR ROOKIE CBs PLAYED GREAT.

OUR O-LINE HAD A ROUGH DAY.

COACH MADE SOME BAD CALLS.

WE WERE BETTER IN ALL THREE FAZES OF THE GAME.

THE ONLY TIME THEY EVEN HAD A LED WAS 3-0.AND WE CAME BACK WITH A FIELD GOAL.

WE WALKED ALL OVER THEM.

WE BEAT THEM PLAYING OK WE BEAT THEM PLAYING OUR WORST GAME OF THE YEAR.

FACE IT jet fans WE'RE BETTER THAN YOU ON YOUR BEST DAYS.

Chris Chambers? NO BRAINER! We haven't already picked him up, because?????

I've been wondering about the blitz thing also. How many more 4 TD 4th quarters is it going to take??
Please give us some analysis on why we don't blitz. I would guess poor tackling in the secondary is one reason. What else?

So from now on Ginn should play:
1-As a kick off returner, AS well AS
2-A receiver on trick plays where the QB would throw a short side pass to him directly or through a 3rd person and Ginn would do the rest with the help of the offense.

Pure & simple!

The Dolphins haven't picked up Chambers because they are not interested in a 31 yr old receiver with 5 catches for 122 yds and 1 TD this year...they are not going to cut some young player if the future for another 5:11 210 pd receiver, which they have plenty..Chambers may go somewhere, but not here

Hey Salguero, you doosh, if you want to know why the Jets fans are such losers it's because dilusional Miami fans like yourself keep referring to their win as a "whipping" of the Jets. What a joke. Ask yourself this question if you really want to know who played better on Sunday . . . which coach do you think is more pleased with the way his team played on Sunday? (A) The guy whose rookie QB threw for 250+ yards and had three TDs, whose RB rushed for over 100 yards, and whose defense gave up 100 total yards or (B) the coach whose defense gave up over 400 yards and whose offesne barely managed to gain 100 yards. You can say those stats are irrelevant all you want, but Rex Ryan is sure as hell sleeping a lot better than Sparano this week. Fixing kickoff coverage is pretty easy, but fixing an anemic offense and putrid secondary isn't so easy. Good luck against the Pats next week chumps.

Billy, I would say the most pleased coach was the one with a win...That would be us. So take your failed ass out of here. CHUMP.

Mark,
How about Terry Glenn or Chris Carter.

I am a little nervous about the NE game. Ronnie and Ricky need the ball in their hands. Our receivers are terrible.

I know they won't sign Chambers, but they definetely should. He would be their best receiver on the field.

Of coarse Rex is slept better last nite, He ate a side of beef after the jet lose...

Jet cry baby loser Bart Scott is going to be on Mike and Mike at 9:41 am. See if Greeney can keep his lips off his azzz.

Billy, the Jets are Teddy Ginn's biatch...burned Revis in game one and burned ur special teams TWICE in game 2...if I was a coach I would be disillussionrd by trading away NINE player/draft picks on a QB that can't play in the cold and a receiver who is about to be arrested/suspended...in fact Billy, after 3 in a row, two at GIANTS Stadium, one thatknockrd u out of the playoffs, u and ALL Jests fans are OUR BIATCHS...take 95 north if you don't like it BIATCH

CocoaJoe,

You so stupid... this regime has made bad personnel decisions??? This is a regime that took your favorite team from 1-15 to 11-5 and division champs in one year and they have a chance still to make playoffs even with hardest schedule in NFL. This is a regime who has had 2 of the best drafts in franchise history...

Jake Long
Chad Henne
Phillip Merling
Kendal Langford
Donald Thomas
Lex Hilliard
Vontae Davis
Sean Smith
Brian Hartline
Chris Clemons
Andrew Gardner

These are all names that will be foundation of Miami Dolphins for years you donkey, show some respect for people who know what they are doing and are much smarter to you.

Nice Bobby. Billy - Scoreboard. You lose again. Hence you are a loser.

Billy,

say it with me J-E-T-S SUCK! SUCK! SUCK!

Seriously, Jets fans are the biggest whiners I ever hear!!!! How you act like you still win the game when you LOSE!

THE JETS SUCK! THE DOLPHINS OWN YOU! YOUR COACH IS FAT AND STUPID! YOUR QB SUCKS! WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. You don't get the ball much and get many yards when you take 2 kr for td and one fumble!!!! Dolphins outplayed the Colts and you didn't hear us whining like this!!!!!

I like Tony, and I hope we keep him and he continues to excell. However, the 2 pt thing was a bone head move. Also, it makes so much sense to play Ginn on punts. He should have been soing punts and kicks since day 1. I don't really get that. I like Bess, but I think his talent is getting open and catching the ball.

I liked Chambers, however he could really drop some passes. I think if SD let him go, it shows he is really not that good. I cerrtainly never though he was pro bowl stuff. Get big Patrick Turner on the field. I think he and Henne could both take off. Turner will help the other recievers, and Ginn will help Turner get open. It could work. What we did against the Jests did not work so well.

Billy,

Your fat and stupid coach even said he would rather be in our locker room you idiot. What a fat and stupid thing to say, almost as bad as saying the reason why you lose is your fault and not the team who beat you.

If the horrible Jets can beat the Pats, I am not worried.

Nathaniel Dodsworth I like your t hrird point.

Before you can return a punt you have to catch the punt. Unlike kickoff returners the punt returner has to make the catch with pressure in their face. Ginn has shown that he does not make catched when pressure is bearing down on him. A guy that is scared to take a hit will muff the punt.

As for Chambers I must ask why would thay take him? He only had a couple of good years and even those were mared by drops. We have the abilityto drop passes already we need some one who can actual bring them in. Chambers would have been an upgrade over the current WRs 5 years ago but now he is over the hill.

Chambers would improve our red zone passing game. Chambers may not be clear improvement in other areas. I'd sign him.

I saw Chris Chambers play for 4 years at Wisconsin and for the 4 or 5 he was with the Dolphins. He was no "alligator arms" as someone said earlier on this blog. He made a bunch of magnificent, almost impossible, catches for both teams. We do not have an experienced pro wideout right now, and wow, could we ever use one! Grab him and give him a chance for pete's sake. It is not like we are overflowing with wideout talent. Give up one of our 12 linebackers. THINK people. Chris Chambers was a great part of our offense, and he deserves another shot at it.
Westcoastphinfan

Billy, you know nothing jackass, no one is referring to the game as a "whipping". On the contrary fans are quite knowledgable about what we have as a team. That's a team that's in its second year of a 4 year rebuild project. It's a team that is still trying to figure out who they are and what they have and still a few pieces short of being a contender. It's a very young team with 3 rookies starting in the defensive backfield and a bunch of second year starters on the offense. That's who the Dolphins are. You think Ryan is "pleased" with the outcome of Sunday? Your team lost twice to a team that has less talent! Ryans happy about that?! WOW, than that settles it, the Jets will never make it to the superbowl with this coach and these players. Just like the fans all they do is talk a big game but when it comes time to prove it they can't. And here's why, NO HEART. Yeah the Jets win in the battle of big mouths but when it comes time to back it up they don't have the heart. They blame eachother for losses and take no ownership in the team concept. The Dolphins are still building their team but they're doing it right. With players who have heart and buy into the team mentality. Smart players who have pride and class. No dummy, Ryan is NOT happy with Sundays outcome because his supposed dominant Jets are now 4-4 and have a putrid division record. Do you realize that the best hope for the Jets now is a wild card? Do you realize that you have no draft picks and your team is getting older and under contract. You have no clue how your team is built and how your GM screwed you for the future. I said it at the beginning of the year, the Jets better win this year or next because after that they're done. You'll see just keep paying attention and in two years, after they haven't done s**t and are completely decimated by free agency and old age, remember that a bunch of Dolphins fans told you so. The Dolphins fans that know more about your team and football than you could ever hope to know. But hey at least at that time you'll still have Sanchez. The QB who can't play in cold weather but has to play more than half of his games in the cold (rofl). The same QB who was almost benched the week before he "out performed" the Dolphins. Keep outperforming the Phins idiot, as long as they keep beating your crappy one superbowl franchise us fans will be happy.

NYSCott--

thanks for taking the time to respond to yet another sore-losing blowhard Jets fan....you have far more patience than I ----I usually just scan their putrid posts before moving on.

IN A BLOG LIKE THIS ONE ANY PERSON CAN PICK ANY NAME HE WANTS OR KEEP HIS OWN .SO IF YOU DON'T LIKE YOUR OWN YOU CAN PICK ANOTHER .

BILLY THE JET FAN EITHER WAY IF IT'S HIS OWN NAME OR HIS NICK NAME HE'S RELLY DUMB ASS TO SIGN W/SUCH TRASHY NAME AS BILLY.ONLY A GET FAN COULDN'T UNDERSTAND THAT . BILLY THE MOST RED NECK EVER NAME.

JET FAN

Chambers and Turner would not be a bad combination for awhile; but I could eventually like to see the tandem of Ted Ginn and Patrick Turner!

Armando's math is as terrible as Fatso Sparano.
Mando wrote, "In other words, Sparano wanted a 13-point lead so that the Jets could not tie with a touchdown, a two-point conversion and a field goal..."
Mando, please understand and teach our fat coach that a TD, 2-point conversion and a FG = 11 points. We already had an 11-pt lead. We don't need 13 to prevent that tie. We need 12.

Gopats,

Jason Taylor is Tom Brady's Papa, has been for years. What are your thoughts on this?

AFC East still come through Miami, people.

First of all, those who have been blaming Ginn for the slow start have no sense of team. Have a tall glass of Ginn and Tonic and shut the %&** up!

The Defense has given up way too big plays and way too many points. As a unit, the Defense has to get more consistant and get better fast! Lets go D, step it up!

As a coach you have to know what each one of your players do best; Ted Ginn Jr. is a great returner (which we saw Sunday as he made history). The coaches did a poor job of knowing what best suits Ginn and they constantly put him in a position to fail. Let him return Kicks, retunr Punts and have packages for him where he runs reverses, lines up in creative ways to strectch the field on play action fakes (since our running game in top notch). Give him screens and let him work in space. But don't put him in a position to fail. Ted Ginn is a good player, use him in a way where he can continue to be good.

PS Pickup Chambers! (Shouldnt have let him go to begin with)

TG is best @ punt ko return. Maybe put him in on an end around use his speed but he just drops too many balls. Ya, Chambers - never should have let him go in my opinion. Had high hopes for Chad H. but I'm beginning to wonder if they need to draft a QB next year. OMG how many QB's are they going to go through post Marino? Something I don't understand - EVERYONE knew in both jet games coach big boy was going to blitz on every 3rd and long yet the FINS couldn't stop them - CH doesn't know when to throw the ball away to avoid a sack - he should study the guy who should be the QB Drew Brees that guy is incredible. To think if it weren't for a lying pro wanna be coach he may be a Fin QB. GO FINS - they usually seem to have NE's number but after the way the O played in NY......I don't hold out much hope to beat the cheating a&& NE.

Sparano is a good coach before the game starts; he prepares his team very well, ´cause despite atlanta´s game, the fins had been in the game until 3th q. (they were ahead saints, colts and chargers deep in the second half) i mean, the man "sees" the game very well before it begins, but in the second half, when the teams adjust his gamepalns, the guy suffers, he panics, and made stupid or very "conservative" decisions (just like the 2 point conversion last week or those 3& long against PMann. deep in his territory that results in just 3 points, or not to blitz brees in the whole 4th q.) when the game is on the line. He is not an agressive competitor and his team reflects it. Every team that has won the last 20 SB without a good offense, had an agressive defense (Giants, Bucs, Ravs, Pitts.) and Miami has the personel to be a VERY AGRESSIVE defense, but doesn´t have the coaching in that way. Please BLITZ and Blitz and Blitz!!! I want to see the panic in other faces than in our coach in the fouth q.

Carlito, you're an idiot. You don't know enough about professional football much less the Dolphins to comment. You read what others say and think it's godspell. On top of that, you think that everything that Parcells/Sparano does shouldn't be questioned.

I repeat: You're an idiot and I still want the fried monkey recipe.

Bring back Chambers. Who traded him anyway.

Sign Chambers and cut loose Bess! Call me crazy but as a WR Chambers can still play the role of Bess at a higher level. Also, we can have Ginn to return punts.

Let Turner play. He is a big target and should help out young Chad.

Ginn may have gotten past the defenders twice but if he would actually have caught the ball if it were perfectly thrown to him is another question all together.

We know he gets open. His problem is catching the ball consistently.

BRING BACK CHAMBERS HE IS A WAY BETTER UPGRADE THAN OUR WHOLE REC CORP!!!!!!!!
COME BACK HOME CHAMBERS!!!!!!!

Nathaniel, have you seen Ohio State play football? Not a very pro style offense they play there. Other than David Boston, can't think of one non running back on offense to make a difference in the pros.

Mark-reality check

Cris Carter, S. Holmes, Joey Galloway, T. Glenn to name a few. Boston is probably the least productive

From another site: Former Chargers WR Chris Chambers thinks a relationship with a woman that the team believed may have had a negative impact on his performance contributed to his release.

Chambers is recently divorced. "I thought the team gave up on me a little quick – for factors that don't have to deal with football," Chambers said. No matter what the reason, Chambers wasn't performing on the field. The Chargers are going to eat the balance of his $4.55 million contract for this season unless someone claims him off waivers.

While I agree chambers would be a nicE addition, I don't think our recieving corps needs the immediate help our secondary needs. When the clock is winding Down just about every team we've plAyed has been able to walk up the field. While I agree our two rookie corners look very promising for the future, they simply cannot hold Down an entire game. OverAll the secondary has been playing well, but way too weak. No recievers are afraid to stretch out over the middle against us. On 3rd and 10's 8 yard pAsses are being tackled forward instead of backwards. Our secondary needs to start hitting the piss out of opposing recievers and stop playing like a bunch of soft cheerleaders.
With our 1-2 punch running games we can make just about Any secondary bite on a play fake. Our recieving corps is not bad.

NFL network is replaying the game... Just came on if anyone is interested... Oh and chiefs claimed chambers

put pressure on brady. put in tape when we blanked them 21-0 and do it again. ronnie and ricky will tire out the pats defense.

Sparano still can't figure out that being up by 12 pts means that the other team still needs to score 2 td's to win. I'll say it again, Is Jon Gruden available in 2010? He seems to like the Wildcat when bantering about it on Monday Night Football....Match made in heaven.
