Wake Miami's most efficient pass rusher

One of the toughest parts about coaching has nothing to do with preparing a player to play. It's recognizing the right time to put a player on the field.

Sometimes coaches hit home runs with that decision. Sometimes they strike out.

"I think that our coaching staff has tried to utilize our personnel to the best of their ability right now." coach Tony Sparano said Monday. "We’ve tried to put the right guys in the right spots so to speak. Every once-in-a-while you miss. That’s not good, if you miss, you have to re-evaluate it and you have to try to make it right. So that’s what we’re doing.”

I hope they are doing it with Cameron Wake.

Because, with all due respect to the Dolphins staff, all I know is when Wake gets the opportunity to rush the passer, he gets to the passer. A lot.

Wake has three sacks this year. That's third on the team. But he's up there with the leaders despite getting about 60-70 percent fewer snaps than those other sack leaders.

In other words, when Wake is in the game to rush the QB, he is more efficient in getting results than the other guys. On Sunday against the Patriots, Wake played in 11 plays, according to Sparano. He had one sack and one pressure.

Compare that to other rushers that got at least twice as many and perhaps almost three times as many pass-rush opportunities and netted zero sacks, and you wonder why not give Wake more chances?

The Dolphins have been trying to improve Wake's run defense. He has other issues Sparano says need to be "cleaned up." But are those issues so troubling that they would keep one of the more efficient pass rushers on the team off the field when the team needs to pressure the QB?

I know Joey Porter and Jason Taylor are still better all-around players than Wake. They are more complete at this stage. But Wake is becoming more efficient as a pass rusher than Porter, certainly.

Give him more chances to make plays doing the thing he does best -- rushing the quarterback.

More chances might just equal more sacks. And wouldn't that be good?

11 plays per game is NOT the way to use Cam Wake....

As I just commented in another post, I believe the problem is coaching on the field and player selection. We need Cameron Wake as a regular, we need wide receiver Pat Turner on the starting roster and perhaps we need Ron Brown to become our quarterback. Really, Henne is no Brady, although they went to the same school. Brady started the NFL by winning, including the super-bowl! Bill Parcels: It's time that you come on the sidelines and save your franchise!

Ted Ginn reminds me of Billy -WhiteShoes_ Johnson, world class speed and concrete blocks for hands. And the only route he too could run was a fly pattern. Eventually Billy learned how to catch a ball, but you saw how many Superbowls the Oilers won with him right?

Ginn may one day develop into an NFL wide receiver but right now, all he is, is a kick returner.

Ted(Hands of stone)Ginn is NO billy (white shoes)Johnson, unlike billy , ted has no testicular fortitude and that cant be coached, I know bill Johnson, ted Ginn is no bill Johnson...and never will be..

Ted has a mangina...

Wake could be a perfect pass rusher to rush a young, inexperience, scrambling quarterback- Josh Freeman of Tampa Bay. He would be able to match him speed or speed compare to Porter or Taylor. Your thoughts Dolfans?

On another note, I believe Dolfans reserved the rights to express their frustration on the mistakes the players or the coaches have made this season. Yet, we must keep in mind this is a rebuilding team. We're the stage where we are making great plays and giving up some costly big plays on the other end.

Overall, I am seeing some improvement from last season, not necessarily in the win -loss column. We have ways to go guys but we're getting there.

I have been wondering why Wake has not been in the game to put pressure on the QB. Sparano is really over-analyzing this situation. The guy gets pressure and gets to the QB,,,,enough said. And in my opinion, Channing Crowder can continue to sit.

Another retarded Dolphan ... Mikegut you moron. Take a look at the film from that Monday Night Game. Wake was one of the down lineman on the other side of the ball. He was the only player on the entire defense that diagnosed the fake. Why don't you talk about the idiots play side who completely missed that it was a fake. Wake had ZERO contain responsibility. Wake made a very good play and almost got to the punter. IDIOT.

.... and the reason why Wake isn't playing is b/c he came via Canada. Plain and simply. If he was a round 1-5 draft pick and was playing like he is they would have him on the field. Just another example of how Sparano's breasts are far larger than his nads.

Agree with you Henri, anyone thinking the fish were going to be better then 8 and 8 were smoking something illegal..The NFL conspired to keep the mighty air breathers down with that schedule, I have a call out to Oliver Stone....

A great play-making receiver, younger faster outside LBs, and vicious safeties (like New England's - a product of trying to figure out how to beat Manning and the Colts) and we are there. Two years. None to soon, because NE is reloading.

What this team needs is a good cheerleading from Sparano. Maybe the almighty Parcels can even come down from his perch and join Tony in some awe inspiring fist pumping.

i dont see the improvement yet, we look good at time and bad at times. i dont know what it is but we dont have that it factor we had last year. i dont think last year team would have ever lost games where we completely controlled the game(colts saints), last year team would have came up with the stop vs (pats and chargers and atlanta). i like the fact we won the division but we dont have the caliber of players who should be running their mouth week in week out(porter and crowder), dont get me wrong i like shizt talkers but shut-up till you put up! and please never draft players from florida gators the last great gator was EMMIT SMITH, now name one more since, you CANT

Percy Harvin comes to mind..

Javon Karse,Jabbar Gaffney,Fred Taylor just a few off the top of my head..Do you want More????

But would Rex Grossmen be considered a Cane or a Gator??

I strongly disagree on Porter being better. He does pretty much nothing against rush or pass

If that brother wearing #19 can't catch the ball send his arse back to Ohio,(Browns) for a draft pick at the end of the year!! You don't learn how to catch a pass, either you can catch a ball or you can't!!

It should also be noted that no Dolphins D lineman deserves any credit for sacks in the Pats game. Both were coverage sacks believe it or not. Brady had yeeears to throw it on both plays.

The answer is simple. The coaches don't have the balls to put Wake in. They have given the rookie DB's lots of on the job training and look how many TD's they have given up. Wake might give up a little run yardage but there's no way he will stink it up as bad as our DB's or receivers.
The coaches just don't have the jewels to sit Taylor or Porter. Too bad for us.

Ike Hallard...

cuban the only name i might give you is off your list is fred taylor and his injury history keep him out of mine not to mention he's never been a pro-bowler, gaffney get real the only reason he might still be in the nfl is b/c he went to PATS for a couple of years,Kearse isnt even in the top 15-20 DE in the league plus injury prone too(stop it this guy has had what maybe 3 great years out of what 8) and harvin is an injury way from sitting out for the season or his career besides this his first nfl season so i wouldnt even list him.and for every name you just mentioned there are like 15 canes with better careers that those chumps you just mentioned. besides i do know why i even entertained you jus now

Use Wake more often. By the way what has happened to Roth? Another injury?
On offense we need to use Camarillo more. On every passing down he should be in the line up!He could be our version of Welker ( unless we trade him like we did with Welker), he has the hands and the courage to go across the middle.Something Ginn does not have!

Make sure all of his family leaves with him!!

This coaching staff, as good as they were last year they are just equally as bad this year. It is coaching that we are 3-5 not all on the players. It's clear to all who our best pass rusher is (WAKE) they talk about shaking things up; well putJ.T. back on the line his natural position this will open a spot for Wake there problem solved. They also need to put Teddy back on the field and start playing to hisstrengths (going deep) he should have at least 3 deep balls a game, Stretch The Field. The wild cat has not been working lately because of the passing game or lack there of. Other teams have been stacking the line on running plays and against the WILD CAT with 8 or 9 players sometimes even 10 in the box, we need to startstretching the field.

jake long isnt as good as we think. some sacks might not be his fault but every game it looks as if he's playing on skates not to mention how the PATS took wilfork off of grove and placed him at DE and we couldn't run to the left-side period. MANDO might be afraid of PORTER and is kissing up, stats dont lie, PEEZY is garbage this year plain and simply. JASON TAYLOR is not a OLB just like he wasnt in WASHINGTON. to be effective TAYLOR needs his hand on the ground or stand-up on the right-side of the defense to rush the passer

you are 100 percent right

CUBAN when did grossman play or attend the U- stick to soccer or dominoes or cricket b/c i see you just talking. brock berlin attended and played for both and he was garbage

Phin fan, I agree the "U" has many great players,i was just shooting off current NFL players from the gators(by the way, Iam a canes fan) A great player is a guy that comes in and Dominates from the time he comes into the league, so there aren't many players from any one team that sticks out. You have Manning from Tenn, You have brady from Mich, You have Brees from perdue(I think)you have Farve from mississippi, and i also believe Eli also went there, so your thinking would be mississippi being the epicenter of all the great NFL players??? I dont agree, too many players and schools to chose from my friend...

my last thought on WAKE, if you have the balls to start two rookie corners, whick is way more stressful than playing lb, please give this kid the chance to learn on the job as well. numbers dont lie i would give up a run here and there for the chance of a big play on passing down. JOEY PORTER is having the same year as when he first signed and its a shame.(MR. POPCORN MUSCLES)lol

Who is dying Breed and why does he hate my buddy NJ Phin fan????

Posted by: cuban menace

This by far has to be the funniest thing the menace has ever said. I am stilling rolling.... he said " my buddy" what a f'king ego tripping bazzzztard. Are you out there Dying Breed??? This chit is funny.

Cuban,

Favre did not go to Ole Miss

My Bad, just another bad gator sticking in my mind...

Miss. State...

I knew it Dying Breed, you see where the menace is then you are soon to see carlito from golfito

Love NJ Phin fan....

You guy's may not know this, but NJ Phin fan was voted M.V.P in the state of Jersey...

AMEN!!!!!! It boggles the mind to not see Cameron Wake not on the field more. This guy is a monster and yet they use him so sparingly I don't get it one bit. With as many rookies and young players already out there on the field as starters put Wake in the mix and let him loose. What do we have to lose????? I just don't get it.

MOST VALUABLE PLUMBER.

Sorry NJ.... :)

Could'nt help it.... :)

lol, cuban get your facts straight!!!! Favre didn't go to mississippi state either!!!! lmao!!!! (now I know how nj feel lhao at you!)

OK Carlito, How about So. Miss???? They have 40 collage teams there and he went there what like 20 years ago????

ray lewis,ed reed, edge james, portis, god bless the dead sean taylor, vilma, stockey, gore, mcghee, beason, mckennie, dan morgan when not hurt, and not to mention all the second tier players who are not superstars in the league but good and the past 20 years you could have a championship team with all the greats from UM that have went to the nfl. offense and defense. name a school off the top of the dome you can say that about

Cant do it phin fan.... The "U" rules...

Keep ignoring me menace your jealousy and envy will be your undoing my friend

Dont forget Bernie Kosar,Vinnie Testarverde,Andre Johnson, just to name a few more...

5 National titles and they played for 3 more since 81.....

the reason i say this and i now you cant controll who gets pick or where we might be picking but as a dolphin and canes fan(DIEHARD)we never have canes on this team(yatil green and carey wow)and with the way the canes look now the picking will be good for the next 4 or 5 years we need to capitalize on this

Michael Irvin, Jim Kelley(boo!), Santana Moss,

i cant believe i left out the best reciever in the nfl andre johnson, moss but you see my point,so many to choose from

Thank you Carlito,The cane greats are all over the NFL, And Phin fan73 i agree with you...

say you are sorry to them @sshole menace

we can do this all day, former cane team vs the rest would be total domination.wilfork, cortez, maryland, burrows, armstead, smith, god bless the dead jerome brown

Especially with the group now at the "U", big receivers with great hands, it will be interesting to see if parcells doesn't look 30 miles south for a wide-out...we'll see..

like would draft hankerson if he came out and i would grab graham when he come out this year, from what i've seen of him he's already better than fasano
