On the bright side, the Dolphins today secured their continued place in NFL history by remaining the only franchise to have a team go undefeated.
That is because the Colts lost 29-15 to the New York Jets today.
The Colts entered the game with a 14-0 record.
"While the Jets win today ended Indianapolis' streak and showed onced again how difficult it is to go undefeated, I want to congratulate the Colts on a great run," coach Don Shula said. "Peyton Manning proved once against this season why he is one of the best quarterback in the history of the NFL and it was certainly no surprise to see him lead the Colts to an NFL record 23 straight victories.
I have the utmost respect for Peyton and his teammates, Bill Polian, and the entire Colts organization, who have once again put together an outstanding season."
Outstanding yes. But perfect?
Nope.
Only the 1972-73 Dolphins have done that.
As for the 2009-10 Dolphins, this is whatmust happen for Miami to get in the playoffs:
Dolphins beat Pittsburgh.
Oakland beats Baltimore.
Cincinnati beats the Jets.
New England beats Houston.
Cleveland beats Jacksonville.
That is it. That is the only way Miami gets in the playoffs.

first?

mando that was a rough go today and this season has been difficult to handle...the stretch run has brought back bad memories from all of the previous recent regimes....tell me its gonna be better...i believed - until 405 pm today - i no longer believe...

Rather have the colts go undefeated than have the jets in the playoffs.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | December 27, 2009 at 07:52 PM
Who cares, all we need is for the dolphins to win now, very sad 2 weeks for dolphins fans. We should have made the playoffs easy this year, but the team did not fight hard enough. Still love my dolphins,

Well Merc,
Looks like another tradgic accident happened on the way to Perfectville!
Congratulations again 72 Perfect Fins! LOL
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 27, 2009 at 07:56 PM
I Just woke up from that painful nightmare
Posted by: Standley23 | December 27, 2009 at 07:57 PM
No respect for the Colts coaching staff...the fans were booing heavily, as they should have...the poltically correct thing was pull Peyton, the RIGHT thing was go for perfection...
Posted by: bobbyd12 | December 27, 2009 at 07:57 PM
mark i felt the exact same way...going undefeated today means nothing compared to the REAL FOOTBALL played in 72....the falling of the perfectos is inevitable, but in no way will diminish their accomplioshment....that being said, cant stand the jets, or their fans, as a ny/nj resident, it is impossible to want them to win ANY GAME...as a METS fan, I rooted for the PHILLIES G-D forgive me instead of the Yankees...thats how bad i dislike the JETS...anyone else i would have been rooting for to take down the baby horses, but not the NYETS...
Posted by: dj rob | December 27, 2009 at 07:59 PM
Perfectville, population 1! Its so lonely at the top! LOL
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 27, 2009 at 07:59 PM
I hope one day that the more recent Dolphins go on a run like this once again.
Posted by: Standley23 | December 27, 2009 at 08:00 PM
NJ--
you must be so very very proud of your Jets.
Pitiful performance by the Fins. Henne has no touch.
Posted by: NJ PIN HEAD | December 27, 2009 at 08:00 PM
mark, im gonna have to agree with that. damn colts laying down again, the jets this time though ugghhh.
Posted by: jaksin | December 27, 2009 at 08:01 PM
and cincy has nothing to play for next week too. gosh darn jets!!!
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | December 27, 2009 at 08:01 PM
yea Colts blew that one! Manning wasnt in danger of getting hurt, and they were winning... how can they look at themselves in the mirror.
Posted by: JerseyFinFan | December 27, 2009 at 08:01 PM
sad in the day the fins were handed a very sad defeat ,the idiot FARMERS think the won by jets stopping the colts
Posted by: ALoco | December 27, 2009 at 08:01 PM
Again, shameful display by Colts coaching staff, hopefully they will go down early in Playoffs. If u can't play this game to win, u don't deserve the ring
Posted by: bobbyd12 | December 27, 2009 at 08:03 PM
I think the Colts are soft. Hate to say it but I think the Pats win the AFC.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | December 27, 2009 at 08:05 PM
Pats Rule
Jets Rule
Henne is the future if the future is The Suck.
NJ drools
Posted by: NJ PIN HEAD | December 27, 2009 at 08:06 PM
Fins score 14pts to seal undefeated untied championship season, Colts lose game 14 in pursuit of perfection.
Fins lose game 19 in thier quest for consecutive victories Patsies lose game 19 in thier pursuit of perfection.
Long live the 72 Fins, you are gone but never forgotten!
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 27, 2009 at 08:06 PM
Piss on the Jets.
Wish the colts would of pulled Manning out of our game.
Posted by: Po White Trash | December 27, 2009 at 08:08 PM
LOL at the suggestion that NJ should be proud of the Jets, a team that plays in NJ but refuses to identify with that state while preferring, falsely, to be called a New York team.
I call that pathetic.
Posted by: Kevin11c | December 27, 2009 at 08:09 PM
I don't know what is worse, watching the Fins have a meltdown the past 2 games, or watching the Jets make the playoffs and beat a Colts team that gave up in the 3rd Quarter! ARRGGHHH!!!
Posted by: SteveinCentFL | December 27, 2009 at 08:11 PM
I'm so Happy about my jets , A real man's team.
Posted by: Lyingbreed | December 27, 2009 at 08:12 PM
Jets rule ! jets rule !
Posted by: Lyingbreed | December 27, 2009 at 08:14 PM
Since there isnt one team in the playoffs I really like. I think I'll root for the Jets to ruin everyone elses season. Then I'll root for them to get completely dismantled in the Super Bowl in Miami! LOL
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 27, 2009 at 08:14 PM
Pulling against the Colts Real hard now,
To GIVE a game to the P.O.S. Jets is Inexcusable!
Jets have a good shot at the playoffs Per NBC.
Colts Eat Sh*t and lose then die!
Posted by: Po White Trash | December 27, 2009 at 08:15 PM
THE COLTS DID THE SMART THING TO PULL THE QB SINCE THEY KNOW REX RYAN IS A DIRTY COACH PLUS ON THE MONEY SIDE OF THINGS ,COLTS DOESN'T CARE FOR ANY RECORD .THEY R TRYING TO MAKE SURE MANNING WILL BE THERE HEALTHY FOR THE PLAYOFFS.BUT IN THE FARMERS MIND IT'E DIFFERENT AND THAT'S WHY THE FINS ALWAYS IN THE CELLAR .
Posted by: GOpats | December 27, 2009 at 08:15 PM
It would be so much fun to watch Jet fans crying in LandShark stadium!
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 27, 2009 at 08:16 PM
New Jersey Jets did not win. Colts surrendered the game. Thanks Colts coaching staff for preserving the ' 72 Fins!
Posted by: Josev | December 27, 2009 at 08:16 PM
Jets hold a wild card spot... Makes me sick. I wanted the jets to lose.
Posted by: Hennething | December 27, 2009 at 08:18 PM
The Colts play more than half of their games indoors, on turf and against teams with mostly loosing or mediocre records. They have a multiple-MVP quarterback and have had hall of fame receivers in this decade, and how many coonsecutive winning seasons, yet only one championship?
I don't see the big deal. The '72 dolphins plates outdoors on a lousy field, against teams that mostly had winning records, while playing their 2nd string quarterback for most of the season
Posted by: Kevin11c | December 27, 2009 at 08:19 PM
thats what i want now, colts should lose for rolling over just on principle now. but not to those polesmoking cheatriots, COME ON CHARGERS i guess, if it has to be someone.
Posted by: jaksin | December 27, 2009 at 08:20 PM
SANCHEZ CAN BE ON THE RECORD BOOKS BY GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS .
IN FACT HE'S NOW ON THE RECORD BOOKS AS THE GUY WHO SPOILED THE COLTS RUN .MEATBALL TIME .
Posted by: aloco | December 27, 2009 at 08:21 PM
Chargers it IS!!!!!!
Posted by: Po White Trash | December 27, 2009 at 08:21 PM
Yeah I like the sound of that idea. The Jets ruining everyone elses season in the AFC. Then crash landing during the Super Bowl in Miami, getting thoroughly blown out.
The more I think about that the more I like it! There's nothing that say I love you like seeing a Jet fan cry in Miami.
Wow! I'm really beginning to love this with all of my heart! LOL
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 27, 2009 at 08:22 PM

Posted by: DyingBreed | December 27, 2009 at 08:31 PM
Once again I hate the jets. And also their fans. And coach. And staff. And sponsors. And their qb. And their wr. And their cb. And their stadium. And the entirety of New Jersey.

Posted by: Hennething | December 27, 2009 at 08:35 PM
Ridiculous. Does anyone really think the Colts would have lost had they not rested their starters?
TH
Posted by: Tom hartman | December 27, 2009 at 08:36 PM
Yeah, it is awful quiet here right now. But I guess its to much to ask that some of our idiots fans might be out contemplating leaping from tall buildings! Wow, imaginations of the mind. LOL
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 27, 2009 at 08:36 PM
To be honest, the 2009 Dolphins don't deserve to be in the play offs. Quite different in heart and pride to the 2008 ones.
Sad, men, I'm sad.
Posted by: El Mago de la Vida | December 27, 2009 at 08:36 PM
Speaking of leaping from tall buildings and great imaginations of the mind. There's been a bobbyb12 cowards sighting!
Wow, right on cue. Forgive me Lord but you do know my wishes! LOL

Wait, I just re-read that...Did Shula really say that Manning was "the best QB ever to play the game"?
Posted by: Marc | December 27, 2009 at 08:43 PM
Jakskin, the only thing that's Brown and on fire is the sh** I took after watching the fins put on another heart breaking loss.
