On the bright side, the Dolphins today secured their continued place in NFL history by remaining the only franchise to have a team go undefeated.
That is because the Colts lost 29-15 to the New York Jets today.
The Colts entered the game with a 14-0 record.
"While the Jets win today ended Indianapolis' streak and showed onced again how difficult it is to go undefeated, I want to congratulate the Colts on a great run," coach Don Shula said. "Peyton Manning proved once against this season why he is one of the best quarterback in the history of the NFL and it was certainly no surprise to see him lead the Colts to an NFL record 23 straight victories.
I have the utmost respect for Peyton and his teammates, Bill Polian, and the entire Colts organization, who have once again put together an outstanding season."
Outstanding yes. But perfect?
Nope.
Only the 1972-73 Dolphins have done that.
As for the 2009-10 Dolphins, this is whatmust happen for Miami to get in the playoffs:
Dolphins beat Pittsburgh.
Oakland beats Baltimore.
Cincinnati beats the Jets.
New England beats Houston.
Cleveland beats Jacksonville.
That is it. That is the only way Miami gets in the playoffs.

Mark,
I love you buddy, even though youre Canadian, and I could do this all night with you because its so much fun. But Big Poppa's getting tired for real now.
Even though I know you hate to hear it, I love you and you have good night buddy. I gotta go to work in the morning. And dont forget to keep cheering on our fins ok!
Good night my little Canadian friend.

Come on Mark as a good Canuck can`t you remember Roger Doucette singing in Montreal everytime Canada played the USSR or CCCP as their jerseys said and a great Hockey game happened?I still get goosebumps!!!Unfortunately they beat us too often, unlike the USA in 1812.
Yes we still relish old victories:)

When Colts pulled first string I saw jet players pushing and talking trash to back up Colts. They showed they're low class obnoxious personality just like they're fans.
Posted by: morphin | December 27, 2009 at 11:19 PM
The fact that we've given up two huge early leads only to fall just short of victory in the last two games is nothing compared to finding out the jets hold their own destiny, next playing in a game against a team that has nothing to play for..

MARK, IS IT TRUE TORONTO TURNING INTO A TINY CHINA ?

Dolphins undefeated season was an incredible feat. It will always be there, even if another team manages to do it. But grasping onto that straw from almost 40 years says a lot about where this franchise is. I'm optimistic that this team is on the right track...despite the result today. But until this team can start dominating week in and week out, I won't be satisfied. Touting a 40 year old record does not satify today's fans desire to have a winner who shows up and plays for 60 minutes. This is a young team - we are being told to be patient as the bricks are placed into the wall of the future. Okay, I get it...but next year better start to produce something that represents a team that wins by dominating, wins by burying opponents and wins by physicality. I want to be talking about now not the undefeated record from 40 years ago.

ALoco, the great thing about Toronto is we have many different nationalitiese represented here. The Chinese community is one of the many great ones here.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | December 27, 2009 at 11:25 PM
That the Jets control their playoff fate makes me ill, physically & spiritually ill. Darkness covers the land.
Posted by: EmoFinFan | December 27, 2009 at 11:26 PM
And Jeremy, I do remember those days. Those Soviet teams were awesome. Canada Cup '87 - that was drama!!
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | December 27, 2009 at 11:26 PM
I agree Emo - look at how the Dolphins Alumni wh0red out the current state of events.
Indy could have kept Peyton in for one more series. The jets would have been smashed.

Every year, I've admitedly been a little happy when the last undefeated team lost a game (never more so than the Pats in the Superbowl), but damnit, I am angry that the colts laid down to a playoff contender and piece of crap team like the Jets.
UGGHH
Posted by: LipsinToronto | December 27, 2009 at 11:29 PM
Hey miracles can happen, look at eagles last year, they needed cpl teams to lose n it happened, and this is the NFL ANY thing can happen, n if the fins can't make it, well let's just hope neither do the jets
Posted by: thisguy34 | December 27, 2009 at 11:36 PM
I agree with Lips.. I hate the Jets!!!!
Go Cincy!!!
Lips do you remember the last all star game that meant anything? That is the NHL Challenge Cup played in 1979 ?

Posted by: DyingBreed | December 27, 2009 at 11:49 PM
I think I was drinking too much then. I have no recoglection of that series. Did you see how much money the series made for the players then!!! 350k to the NHLPA and only 80k to the Russians. Compare that vto what the players make today and it shows how scandelous players get paid today!!!
Posted by: Jeremy in the Canadian Cowtown | December 27, 2009 at 11:50 PM
NJ just give it up!
Posted by: RiseandStalk | December 27, 2009 at 11:51 PM
Ya, but today $80k wouldn't even cover the cost of getting a Russian team over here. Tell me more about the challenge cup - too young to remember that too

You moron, you mean to say the least. You bum just like Mark
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 28, 2009 at 12:18 AM
Seriously.
There is nothing for Fish fans to feel good about today. Think about all the games you DOUCH*E BAGS gave away. NO, IND, BUF, are the three that come to mind. Then to not even show up against the Titans and this week is just pathetic.
How can any of you idiots think this "Trifecta" is going to take you anywhere? Sparano is a glorified cheerleader and I guess thats why you all like him bc he isn't an ass like Saban. But fu*ck is Sparano an idiot. If there has been a worse coached game in the NFL in the past decade outside of that NO game please let me know. I'll take the assho*e coach that actually knows football, but I guess you guys just like feeling like you are smarter than the coach.
NEWS FLASH *** SPARANO IS A MORON *** (also has tiny raisin balls - nice job punting today with 5 left and down by 10)
Never mind the leadership void this team has. Your captains are JT, 55, Ferguson, and Cp10. I said pardon? They are all done. Washed up, too old, too injured, not good enough etc.
Your gem at QB has regressed no question. Just a pathetic situation in Miami.
Posted by: TorturedDolphan | December 28, 2009 at 12:23 AM
I was almost hoping the colts would do it this year. Though we do have a rich history as a fan I cannot help but feel the '72 season hanging over my head like a curse. Regardless of what happens every year you hear "well at least no one went undefeated". Well I agree with a previous poster what the '72 dolphins did was and always will be a fantastic feat regardless of what happens now. I also think that the team is now headed in the right direction after many many years seemingly going backwards. I believe we HAVE to keep Big Tuna in Miami. It is said that shit rolls down hill but so does honey just a little slower. You can already see a difference in attitude from top to bottom in Miami in the Tunas short stay and we NEED that to continue to ooze throughout this organization because it will last long after he is gone but he has to stay a few more years.
Posted by: FinFanEd | December 28, 2009 at 12:24 AM
Tortured,
What are your thoughts on NJ?
Posted by: salsa | December 28, 2009 at 12:30 AM
Its sooooo pathetic to see this fan base fussing about something that happened 37 years ago.
Are you kidding me? Who fuc*ing cares. Don Shula? Sure he is a legend in South FLorida but the reality is no one gives a fu** about what he has to say anymore. When was the last time he won a game?
Even a fan 10 years old at the time would be pushing 50 today. This just shows every year how pathetic this franchise is. Living a dream that happened nearly four decades ago because there has been nothing else worth cheering for (other than number 13).
Posted by: TorturedDolphan | December 28, 2009 at 12:31 AM
Tortured has been tortured by sparano's "raisin balls" slapping himin his face. So you beat the third string colts!!! You act like that's a superbowl, it will be yours this year cuz cinch is gonna knock you out. Stay in NY and stay off here you Yankee prick

WOW !!! , Dying brain/ misty. while as out having some dinner. It took you a full 7-8 hours of making yourself look like a complete idiot on this blog before you broke your promise of ignoring me and not talking to me. I see you can't just get enough of me. I told you to play misty for me. By the way ted ginn had 5 catches 82 yards ( more than any player on the field including andre johnson ) and 16.4 yds average. I'm never wrong unlike you MISTY !!!!

If I had season tickets to this gong show I would head down to the Steelers game next Sunday and have a massive sh*t on the red or orange or teal or whatever color carpet you guys have to express my thoughts on the direction of the franchise.
Why are you guys all giving this "Trifecta" so much breathing room? I don't get it. They have made some terrible decisions and paid some big dollars to piss poor players. How about Wilson and Wilford for starters? How do you excuse drafting Pat White with all the needs this team has? What about bringing back JT? Letting Goodman go? Wilson over Hill? The list goes on. A lot of bonehead moves yet you all think they are going to bring a Super Bowl????
Posted by: TorturedDolphan | December 28, 2009 at 12:39 AM
You threaten me in a forum?! Wow, classy! Just like all you yanks...who cares what happened 40 years ago, I wasn't even born so I don't. I'd rather have more championships then one undefeated season. All I kno is we knocked you guys out last year and beat you twice this year! And cincy will knock you out this year so rexy can cry and you can suck his old dried up prune ball sack!
Posted by: Bstll1316 | December 28, 2009 at 12:40 AM
NJ you are right about Ginn with 5 catches for 82 yards. Ginn could of had more to his total on the 60+ yard touchdown pass that was called back on the penalty in the third quarter.
Posted by: Ace | December 28, 2009 at 12:45 AM
I don't want to see Wilson,Crowder or Carpenter on the Dolphins squad next season.
Posted by: beerndrums | December 28, 2009 at 12:47 AM
mmmmmmmmmm .... gonna get me some sexy rexy ball sack
enjoy your consolation prize > sweaty Sparano man breast covered in Parcels XMAS "chocolate" (of the white variety)
Posted by: TorturedDolphan | December 28, 2009 at 12:50 AM
Ginn is clearly a stud. Cameron knew what he was doing. He should still be the coach. Ginn will be in the HOF. Dolphins will win SuperBowl next year. Panthers Stanley Cup.
