JACKSONVILLE -- The Dolphins did it. They got over .500 for the first time this season.
It took some excellent defense -- particularly in the fourth quarter -- and some timely offense. But the Dolphins beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 14-10 Sunday to improve their record to 7-6 and remain in the chase for an AFC playoff berth.
So maybe it wasn't revenge for 62-7, but the desperate Dolphins will take it.
They got a 108-yard performance from Ricky Williams. Chad Henne had his moments also, at one point completing a team record tying 17 consecutive passes. He finished 21 of 29 for 220 yards.
The defense, meanwhile, limited Maurice Jones-Drew to 59 yards on 18 carries. There were no open receivers throughout. The Dolphins kept the Jags from converting on a couple of desperation fouth-down attempts.
It wasn't pretty. But the Dolphins will most definitely take it.
Your thoughts?

On the double move in double coverage, Corner has underneath, safety has deep. No reason Gibril should have bit. If Holt makes the catch under the safety, it's the corner's fault. Over the top, it's the safeties fault.

I was so happy to hear the rumor the jaguars were going to move to Los Angeles. Then the owner said they were staying in Jacksonville. They have been screwing up my Dolphins TV appearances because of them I'm sick of them. We only need 2 teams here. Someone please buy the Jags and move them out of the state. They can't get anyone to come to their games so I wish they would just leave. I'm so glad the Phins beat them and get one step closer to having a chance at the playoffs.

Defense is starting to gel. Solid all around except for the one pass. It's a good sign for the upcoming games.

According to ESPN, Miami is the #6 seed in the AFC. With a first year QB, nice job sticking with the season!!!!

Wet game = turnovers. No excuse. We won. Come on Dolphins, playoffs!! Keep winning, Henne getting better.
Crowder = 1 good play. The rest was up to the DL, who played a good game.
Love ya' Fins!

This was one sloppy game, it should have been a blow out. Had to be happy with the 1st half of the game, but that 2nd half the offense stunk it up. I still question some of the play calling. Being that I am from Hawaii I love Bess, but to have him do a reverse is not a good idea. He just dose not have the speed to do it and it was obvious in that play that resulted in a fumble. He simply could not out run defenders. Ricky played great but from here on out defenders will be looking to strip the ball from him after he fumbled it three times.
On the other side of the ball, other than the one big play they played awesome! Allowing zero points off of the three turn overs is a huge accomplishment. Was Torbor the man or what? He was on some pretty big plays. In the end a win is a win.

a win is a win...
i noticed that we can finish games if we put our heart into it. we are really starting to control the line of scrimage. we NEED to stop turning the ball over. we are lucky it did not cost us more points. Thank You Defense.
Slowly things are getting brighter, their are flashes of brilliance but we still need to fight harder than ever. Great job Miami! Go win that division.

I am critical of Henning's play calls at times, but thought the fumbles and missed field goal hurt us more.
D did a nice job and made the plays when we needed it. We held down one of the leagues top rushers and the test will get bigger next week!

I'm happy that our team has so much heart. The defense stepped up big and only allowed one big play. I hate seeing our young secondary get burned because it looks like a replay of the last time they got burned. They'll improve and I'm proud of what they have accomplished in a short amount of time.
This team has a lot of fight and I really enjoy watching them play.

how is Miami ahead of Baltimore,, Baltimore
has a better conference record.
Posted by: omar | December 13, 2009 at 04:26 PM
NJ, where the Holt catch the ball? Over the top. That is Wilson's fault. Mind you, Smith also bit badly and Holt could have caught it underneath. Was one of those plays where he could have done whatever he wanted. Still for Gibril to be yelling at Smith was out of line. Should have hit himself in his own head with his helmet to open up a Diego Sanchez type cut.

Wilson yelling at smith was out of line but smith bit badly and wilson was late over the top. Both at fault.

Posted by: PhinsWin? | December 13, 2009 at 04:29 PM
One thing you can say about this Dolphins team, they beat bullsh*t teams, and the Jags are a bullsh*t team. The only way they could get anything going was to run Garrard, and even then they weren't that good. Miami was fortunate, thier D over came all 3 turnovers by the offense. Ricky needs to work on protecting the ball, three fumbles, even though only 1 was lost, isn't going to cut it.
Posted by: DC Dolphan | December 13, 2009 at 04:30 PM
Agreed NJ, but the way the play turned out looked worse on Gibril than Smith. No excuse to get beat over the top on 3rd and forever.
