On the Jags victory and the playoff scenarios

JACKSONVILLE -- On the bright side, the Dolphins won on Sunday and remain in contention for both the AFC East title and a wild card berth.

The 14-10 victory over Jacksonville was not a thing of beauty but most Dolphins victories aren't. You should be used to that by now. Do you really care, anyway?

Are you so into aesthetics as to need razor-sharp performance on both offense and defense to be satisfied?

Or is the bottom line enough for you?

The amazing thing to me is that one day after beating the Jaguars and owning the same record as them, the playoff scenarios reveal Miami remains on the outside looking in, while the Jags are still qualifiers ahead of Miami if the season ended today.

But the season does not end today.

So if there is a two-way tie between the teams, the Dolphins advance to the playoffs.

In the case of two-way ties, the teams the Dolphins don't have an edge against are the Ravens. It is inconclusive what would happen if the Ravens, Broncos and Dolphins are locked in a three-way tie based on data not yet known.

To decide the final spot, it would go down to a two-way tiebreaker between the Broncos and the Dolphins. In such a case, this would come down to strength of victory between Denver and Miami. We do not yet have sufficient data to determine such a scenario. So if Denver's only loss comes to Philadelphia, and the Dolphins and the Ravens both win out, this will require further analysis.

Sunday's game was interesting for a couple of reasons.

The Dolphins shelved Pat White and his spread option package. They also did not use Wildcat.

They did have some crazy play-calling as I note in my column.

The defense was nails, forcing seven three-and-outs. Chad Henne broke the team's single-game record for consecutive completions in one game with 17.

if nj was a a roster and wants to fight the cuban roster he would lose big time and will not be able to have love with his hens .

Mark this. Cincy will choke and lose out, Ravens win out and take the division, every other of the possible wildcard teams will win only 2 of 3, and the Dolphins win 2 0f 3 and make the wild card with the 6th spot. Heard it here first.

have just heard that the Dolphins are going to practice a few plays this week with Henne catching his own passes. And he is going to start on defense as well. The return of the 60 minute man.

No. Mistake, I mean NE will lose out, Jets win 1 of 3, Bills win out, and Dolphins lose out, Bills take division at 8-8. This is the NFL guys - there is too much football left, any team can collapse or go on a run - we will next week be talking about possibilities that no one here or any experts even mentioned. Last week was anyone bringing up the chance of the dolphins catching the broncos? No now its almost the same as catching the ravens or the patriots. Ravens are one game out of their division to the Bengals and everyone just assumes they can't catch them? Its the frieking bengals! Just saying alotta things can happen that can shake it all up, I mean 3 games left and the 5-8 bills can still win the AFC east. Lets just try to win our games, hope the teams with better records lose, and see where we are before the last week.

Question for EVERYONE!

IF we win out(a big IF), I see 1 of 2 things happening.
1) NE loses one, we win the division. Which means we play NE at home in the first round.

2)We land the no.6 seed and have to play at San Diego 1st round.

Which scenario would we rather face? Home game against New England, or traveling to San Diego?

Anybody see Chambers Drop a easy Game winning TD yesterday ? LmAO !

Gribril Wilson what a man. Not only does he blows the play, he goes to the sidelines and yells at Sean Smith blaming it all on him, I can’t wait to the seasons to ends so that the fins cut him.

"phinfangotdam"...

It's not CBS that blacked out the Dolphins game in Central FLA...It was the NFL who still doesn't get it.
They're trying to make Central Florida "Jaguars territory" when Jacksonville isn't even Jaguars territory.
All the NFL is doing is showing how little they care about true football fans who want to see their team play!

Armando
Did Pat White have anything to do with the blackout?

How is this for simple:

Miami wins out and Pittsburgh beats the Ravens at home that puts Miami in as a WC team.

OR

Miami wins out and NE loses at Buffalo, vs. Jville or at Houston that means Miami's Division champs.

Ralphie joe. That's F'd up !

he gets blamed for all other woes. just figured....

No - In this case NE would win the division. The Bills are OUT.

What is wrong with this guy Joe? I never said that the Dolphins will win out for sure and they have already won division. I also never say that the Tennessee game will be easy, in fact if you look back, I said I am more worried about the Tennessee and Houston games than I was previously because both teams playing good football right now.

All I am saying is that if the Dolphins win out, things are looking good for them. The pats are crumbling and they own head to head tie break with Jax... The wildcard and the division are still open to Miami and this team is getting hot at the right time... I'm not saying its a given, but I have faith and hope for the team and that is what being a fan is all about...

If you listen to Joe, the Dolphins have no chance, the season is over, the players suck, the coaches suck, all is lost and they should just give up and maybe think about moving the team, this is not reality or the attitude of a "fan"

I am 93% sure this guy wife is cheating on him with his brother and/or best friend to give him this mindstate...

Danny -- great call with the Yahoo playoff generator.

In this scenario ( http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffscenario?algorithm=custom&13=41505054&14=44510505&15=50000050&16=54501151 ), the Dolphins could still get a first round bye!!

He is probably buying into Armando's belief that Pat White arrival will lead to the ultimate demise of the Dolphins.

They should change the name of position that Gibril Wilson plays from Free Safety to "Costly Liability" until he is no longer a Dolphin.. ;)

why carlito hates wilson ? may be he went out w/his banana.

Mando,

Since when is a 38 yard field goal a "chip shot"? That's the only one Carpenter kicked, right? Carpenter is great, and here, because of one miss from a respectable distance, you act like he missed an easy one. 18 of 20 inside the forty this year? He's doing fine. Ever go out on a field and try a "chip shot" like that?

"If you listen to Joe, the Dolphins have no chance, the season is over, the players suck, the coaches suck, all is lost and they should just give up and maybe think about moving the team, this is not reality or the attitude of a "fan"

Yes, that is exactly what I said. Do me a favor and find the exact text in which I stated such dialogue. There are programs out there to help with your reading comprehension. The local library or the nearest kindergarten class may be able to help you.

It's ok that you've dramatized my comments by using your own silly imagination into something huge. I do think though that you would be a great addition to a community college's theater program. I also think it's cute that you have little ralphie joe tugging at your coat tails like a lost puppy dog yearning for your approval. I think he's into you. Congrats you two.

Why is Jacksonville still the wildcard holder if we beat them? We have the same record. Do they have a better AFC record?

38 yards is not a respectable distance. Anything inside 40 yards, especially when you have a huge leg as Carpenter has proven he does time and time again, should be a chip shot. The turf was slick, but the conditions weren't brutal enough where outside variables are brought into the equation making a 38 yard kick much tougher than it usually is.

If you asked Carpenter he would probably tell you that a kick from that distance is a chip shot for him. 40+ yard kicks enter into the respectable range, not below 40.

How about you TNFINFAN - have you served as a placekicker?

Joe the Jets fan,

Please see your comment at 1:31 pm to understand your hypocrisy in full.

Joe

I'm just here to see how Pat White gets blamed for all the Dolphins problems. Your issue with whoever is between you two. I could not care less.

You so mad about me paraphrasing what you said and your attitude (with exaggeration) when you did the exact same thing to me (with more exaggeration) only hours before... What blowhard, quit whining and learn some football

It's all a big conspiracy mgo268. It makes no sense why or how any team could be slotted in front of the mighty Miami Dolphins. I mean they are the defending AFC EAST champs thus shouldn't be automatically slotted above other team's regardless of record? It's only fair. All the momentum that this defending champion is gaining game after game is quite honestly, unstoppable. It couldn't come at a better time too. I just hope Miami can stay unbeaten.

Joe,

Ok everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but don't let me see you jumping back on the bandwagon if the Dolphins do make the playoffs

Nope your 1pm post wasn't deserving of extreme sarcasm or anything. You're too funny. Telling other people to 'learn some football'. Really?

If we play Tennessee like we played jacksonville we are gonna get smoked! We gotta produce inside the 30! No doubt! GO PHINS!

From Joe's attitude, demeanor, and general lack of knowledge of things including, but not limited to football, it is obvious that he hails from tri-state area, most likely Jersey

There's a bandwagon? I wasn't aware there was one, but regardless, how do you know where my loyalty resides?

I don't drink the crazy kool aid that most of you guys do on here on a daily basis, so I'm labeled a Jets fan? After losses, this board is like an overflowing sewer containing foul smelling garbage. But, after wins, that same garbage found in the sewer magicly transforms itself into a beautiful smelling rose. In this context garbage represents the Miami Dolphins in all your crazy minds.

Akarojo, you must be a Jets fan.

Joe,

I myself stated that the Tennessee game will be a challenge, this is not enough to quantify a Jet Fan label

Joe is very familiar with garbage and sewer, he should know

And FYI, I do not get down on the Dolphins because of a loss... Yes, this team has some holes and in reality is still rebuilding, but the fact is after being 1-15 and the joke of the league, the Miami Dolphins are looking at very real possibility of making back to back playoff appearances (even after sustaining many injuries)... This team is on the right track... What fan wouldn't be happy about this?

This is reality buddy, sorry if it interferes with your delusions...

Joe is not a fan Miami is doing great after all they have gone through not superbowl material maybe not playoff material but becoming one solid team rebuilding hurts but has to be done as for Marc yeah watching the Dolphins is a heart attack waiting to happen but oh what joy

Playoffs? PLAYOFFS?!

Lest I remind everyone, as someone mentioned earlier...We have NEVER, EVER, EVER beaten the Texans...

EVER...Just sayin'

NJ
WHY YOU LET CARLITO DISS YOU LIKE THIS?
CARLITO IS A resident alien that resides in Florida. NJ you need to blast him

PLAYOFFS! PLAYOFFS!WHERE'S MY cOORS LIGHT?

Marc STFU with your dress wearing self.

Tiburon,

Mind your business boy. I was talking to Joe, not you or NJ.

Go Dolphins!

Follow me on twitter. There's a prize if you do. Not really, but felt like writing that.

That's OK mando. There's crap in here just because we felt like writing it too.

I'm on Joe's side. What idiot decided for all humanity that to be a true fan you had to live in fantasy land. Enjoy your hallucinations, have all the cool aide you like, but some of us don't eat the mushrooms.
For the "tell it like it is crowd" let me repeat this:
The Dolphins are a very young, sometimes exciting, improving improving team. They are not yet excellent, elite, great or even consistent.
If they over achieve again this year wonderful. If you insist that they make the playoffs for you to find satisfaction, then your are the one that is not a true fan.
Joe, and his ilk, are just telling it like it is. You can't assume that a team with enough flaws to lose to the Bills is going to win out. Relax, enjoy the surprises along the way. Love the Dolphin team first and foremost for their effort. Watch them grow.
Being a realist doesn't mean we've given up. It simply means we enjoy the many little victories that litter the road before you arrive at complete success.
And the Word is getting out. How long has it been since FlnFan11 has posted "Trade Henne"?

Jack Kompan,

Being a realist, you should know that this team is headed in the right direction for the long run. I never said the Dolphins were excellent or elite, you will not find this in any of my post. I never assumed the Dolphins will win out, I realize these games are going to be difficult.

But, if you are the realist, or in the "tell it like it is" group, then you should know that the Dolphins chances of making the playoffs are more than tangible.

It seem you think the Dolphins can not or do not deserve to win, or that you think they are inferior team. This is not "realism" or "telling it like it is".

These Dolphins are only 2 years remove from 1-15 and on the verge of making the playoffs 2 years in a row. After many injuries and difficult losses they are still fighting... Whats not to like if you are a fan?

Do you expect a super bowl in one year after 1-15?

i just finished my crabmeat sub w/aurgla and can't wait for my apple pie w/ vanilla .

Q FOR CARLITO , FOR FINS TO HAVE A PLAYOFF SPOT THIS YEAR THREE THINGS HAS TO HAPPEN TONIGHT ;

1- THE BILLS COACH AND 8 STARTERS GET FOOD POISINNING AND LASTS FOR 3 WEEKS .

2-TOM BRADY GET DIVORCED AND HIS BACK GEET SUSPENDED FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON .

3-RONNIE COMES BACK ANS ALL OTHER TEAMS FIGHTING FOR A SPOT NEVER WINS A JAME THE REST OF THE SEASON.

4- IF YOU LEARN HOW TO WRITE IN GOOD ENGLISH MAY BE A CHANCE FOR THE FINS .

5-NJ BECOMES A VET .

Read my blogs if you love Miami Football

BE ON JOES SIDE AND GO BACK TO THE pATS negative thoughts never help believe in your team allways

Aloco,

I don't even have to respond to that... The Bills?? They don't have anything to do with the playoff race...

Aloco,

Randy Moss is primed and ready for a classic temper tantrum

Carlito,
i thought we r friends. yot me make me look bad w/ the bills point.any way what about the other 4 points ?we have all night to discuss them .

Carlito

When people start screeming at each other they sometimes lose the ability to listen. I don't accuse you of anything that you said. I agree with your overall view of the Dolphins. I'm sure Joe does too.

There are many blogers shouting out on this blog and to reply to all at once is naturally going to make some feel misrepresented. Relax, Dolphine style, enjoy the game, and with a little luck I'll see you in the Playoffs. It could happen. But if it doesn't someone's going to pay for it next season.

Hell or high water, it's been a fun year.

Jack Kompan,

Amen

Peace be with you

OK guys the menace has arrived, What's the story tonite boys????

carlito, lately you been making great point after another and the moss point is the latest .you becomig a true post writer to read and learn from every day.i salute your willingess to show the farmers on this blog how to be A REAL FAN NOT A WAGON JUMBER LIKE NJ,SOILED AND ACE .

Aloco,

2. We don't need a Tom Brady divorce, we have a Randy Moss and Patriots divorce... with no defense or running game for patsies

3. No need for Ronnie, Dolphins have Ricky 4 100 yard games since Ronnie left... Jags will lose to Indy or Pats, Ravens will lose to Steelers or bears, Pats will lose to Bills in Buffalo this weekend (0-5 on the road)

4. My English is getting better than yours... be careful

ERROR FREE football is the only way the mighty air breathers win this week-end.....Carlito, what are your thoughts???

Cuban,

The Dolphins have to gameplan to stop Johnson like they did Jones-Drew. I don't know if Vince Young or Kerry Collins is playing, but they have to be careful with both... Dolphins need another big game from defense and Henne to keep developing

Tennessee is 31st in the league in yards allowed

THERE ARE MANY KINDS OF FANS ;
1-WAGON FAN AS .....NJ
2-DEVIL FAN AS..... ACE
3-REAL FAN AS .....CARLITO
4-BANANA FAN AS...SOILED
5-SOAP FAN AS ...NATHANIEL
6-SMART FAN AS ..DOLPHINS4LIFE
7-COMEDY FAN AS ...THE CUBAN MENACE
8-MEATBALL FAN AS ...ME
9-REAL FOOTBALL SMART FAN...MARK FROM TORONTO
10-ALL HEART FAN......JUSTIN .C
11-DRUNK FAN AS ODINSEYE
