Dolphins salary cap figures for entire roster

My e-mail box was full Wednesday morning with many of you commenting on the post I put up regarding Miami's total payroll in 2009. (It's below this one in case you missed it.)

Let's make a deal: If you have comments, leave them here please. I read most of the comments posted here the same day. I can also answer here. I do not always get around to reading your e-mails the same day and on days like yesterday cannot respond to everyone.

So say your peace on this forum as many of the e-mails were quite interesting and gave me ideas for future posts. This is one of those.

Many of you requested I post the salary cap numbers for the Dolphins if I had them. You're darn tootin' I have them. The salary cap numbers are important because there is a cap limit of $127,997,000 in 2009.

Obviously the Dolphins were under the limit this year, at approximately $113 million in actual cap cost plus another $8-9 million in dead money, or players no longer with the team that are still on the books -- players such as Ernest Wilford, Vonnie Holliday, Matt Roth ($1,087,000) and others.

Remember, the player's cap value is not necessarily what he is making in the season. Cap is figured by adding the player's base salary, plus pro-rated signing bonus, plus other bonuses. The pro-rated signing bonus means that if Vernon Carey received $12 million to sign his new contract, he got that money this year and it went on the total payroll.

But for cap purposes only $2 million of that $12 million counts on a pro-rated basis for 2009 because Carey signed a six-year deal and $12 million divided by six years equals $2 million per year against the cap.

What follows are the 2009 salary cap values of the players on the Dolphins roster. These figures were obtained by The Miami Herald from sources far and wide.

I think they should go after Goro from Mortal Combat because he has like 8 arms and is very big.

He has many positions he could possibly play

O-line: could block 3 people at a time

D-line: Could tackle, strip the ball, or bat down a pass at the same time

TE: He would be a great blocker and if he fumble like fasano, he could just scoop it up with his other set of arms before it hits the ground

WR: He is not very fast but he is a big target and if Ginn stays on the team, you going to need someone with at least 8 arms to balance all the drops

Happy New Year to Armando and the rest of you Dolphin fans that keep me laughing on this blog.

What was Ginn's signing bonus and how much of a cap hit would the team take if he was cut next year?

UPDATE DRAFT CHOICES

How does this sound to you guys

1st Rolando Mcclain ILB
2nd Eric Norwood OLB
3rd Reshad Jones FS
4th Montario Hardesty RB
5th Freddie Barnes WR
6th Linval Joseph NT
6th Chris Marinelli OG

I agree with most of the people about the players that aren't earning they pay, but in the nest 2 years the roster will be cleaned completly with 2 more drafts and a couple free agents.

Yes, we need a WR, TE, NT, 2 ILB, 2 OLB and a FS.
From what I see, Ginn, Porter and a couple other players will be traded in the offseason (probably one of our guards), for FS Clemons can be a solution, moving Will Allen to safety could be an option also, at OLB, the only potential option is Wake, lets see how he does on his 2nd season.

Happy New Year to all the Regulars!

Hard to get much worse than the last two years(In General).

Carlito, Are you talking about Gort from the 1956 movie or the gort from last years movie?????

ALL POSTS TODAY ARE THE SAME ONES I SAW PRE DRAFT THE LAST TIME AROUND .THE SAME OLD STORY,THE SAME THOUGHTS,THE SAME PEOPLE .

Happy new year po.....

Cuban,

You are the Gort expert my friend, you tell me. I am hoping that the fins sign Goro. He is approximately 10 feet tall, 600 lbs, with 8 arms.

You to CM.

Happy New Year to

Cuban Menace, NJ, Po, Aloco, Mark in Toronto, Marc in a dress, lipsintoronto, harricane, bobbyd12, ace, jaskin, gopats, h8dpats, and anyone else I am forgetting

Marc in a dress. LOL :>)

Well carlito, Theres a big difference, the Gort from the 56 movie was 9 feet tall, he definitely would be a great lineman and if need be he could Zap the Q.B with his laser, now the 08 gort is like 45 feet tall and might be hard to fit into some of these doomed stadiums, and lets not forget if the phins play in Dallas new stadium they'd have to retro fit there new jumbo tron, dont know if they'd do it, thats why Id say go for the 56 Gort... Happy new year Carlito, We'll get em next year buddy...........

I wonder if marc is going in a strapless dress tonite with red pumps???? This makes me laugh....Uncontrollably...

The "1956 movie" is actually a 1951 movie, The Day The Earth Stood Still". The 2008 remake was disappointing. BTW, Gort is pretty slow but maybe an upgrade for Chowder.

Happy New Years Guys,
Here ia to Miami Getting another Great Draft. Hope next year We become the Team to Beat.

Cuban Lets get;
45 Ft Gort
57Ft king kong
57 Ft Godzilla
And our d-line would be set

Yes Happy New Year to all the Stinky Fish followers.

Heres hoping that the Trifecta have some money left over after Sparano's breast augmentation for signing some top FAs along the lines of Wilford and Wilson.

Heres to another decade of Dolphin futility.

awwww, thats not right TD just don't let your MAXI plug get lost up there in the NEW YEAR like soooo many have in 09.You just might like the other 3 weeks.

Thank you Coco, And you too have a happy and safe new year, Iam off to work guys so be safe and DONT DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

CARLITO,
HOW COME YOU WERE NOT AROUND FOR FEW DAYS ? YOU SHOULD LET PEOPLE KNOW YOU R OK .AFTER YOU R NOT ONE POSTER WE THE PEOPLE CAN DO WITHOUT AS THE CASE W/THE CUBAN MENACE .

IS IT TRUE YOU GOT INTO ARRANGED MARRIAGE W/ A GIRL FROM INDIA ?

Tortured ,

i hear from people that you r a dirty person who never shower ,

your mama's name is meatball .

You be safe to lil Aloco......

Who ever said Will Allen at Saftey...I like that idea. Not sure if it would work, but if it could they should cut Wilson.

If we sign a FA WR like Jackson or Marshall and sign Ronnie Brown back....draft should be
1.Ronaldo McClain

If we don't get a WR through FA and sign Demeco Ryans at LB and we don't sign Ronnie
1.Cj Spiller
2.GOLDEN TATE and pray he falls to round 2

It all depends on if they sign Ronnie again and if they go WR through FA or LB through FA.I like Golden Tate out of all the WRs in the draft and love Ronaldo. Dolphins need some play makers and stars so the Tuna needs to do all he can to get them.Pay the money or make the trade...just get us guys that will change a game and change our franchise.

Yes, Happy, Healthy SAFE New Year for everyone...It's amateur night out there so don't be stupid, it's not worth it

happy new year bobbyd13.

armando all the best to you and yours
happy new year
health love and happiness
to all
p.s. a special shout out to everyone who lost someone in 09.gone but not forgotten, miss you dad

I puked when I saw Ginn made more than me this year. Happy new year everyone.

Say your 'peace', or say your 'piece'?

This was great information, Mando. The next info has to be what financial obligations do the Dolphins have to these players next year if they decide to cut them?

I'm sure they would have cut Porter at the beginning of last year if they hadn't been obligated to pay for him whether he played or not. Do they still have to pay him next year if they cut him? The same question goes for many of the others.

Have the Dolphins reached the point where they can sign a high-priced FA--young and proven, please--or do we need to draft our future #1 WR, NT, LB? Who are the 2010 FA standouts?

Ginn and porter take up a lot of money that doesn't really lead to much production, or at least production that doesn't amount to that much money

Cut wilson ginn and porter. NEED to resign Ronnie B.

Does it even matter for next year? It is an uncapped year correct? Our owner is one of the richest in the NFL.

I'm curious just how much he will be willing to spend in the offseason to BUY a winning team.

To HP in PA

How many of those guys cost their team a game or two or three like Ginn has?

To HP in PA

How many of those guys were selected #9 or better in the DRAFT?

Why release someone who was drafted in the 4th, 5th or 6th round when they weren't expected to produce that much anyways?

However, the #9 overall I expect some production. Ginn shouldn't receive 2 dollars let alone 2 million.

Reggie Torbor $3,600,000
Gibril Wilson $4,000,000
Akin Ayodele $2,756,240
Channing Crowder $4,016,000

add in Jason Allen and Joey Porter and Vernon Carey and you have a COLLOSAL waste of money.

HERE IS MY QUESTION-IF NEXT SEASON IS A UNCAPPED YEAR-CAN THE DOLPHINS CUT THE BIG CONTRACTS WITHOUT COUNTING AGANIST THEM IN 2011
AND THE BIG CONTRACTS IN 2010 COUNT AGANIST THE SALARY CAP IN 2011?WILL TEAMS HAVE TO DO MAJOR CUTS AFTER 1 YEAR?

To Ivan...

It's obvious the owners see dollar signs in an uncapped year. Why else would the poorest owner vote to uncap the year with the richest owner. They all voted to uncap next year. It's all about profit sharing and running up ticket prices.

I'm sure they have some kind of unwritten agreement to make sure the 2011 season is profitable for everyone. They do have profit sharing in place.

It basically smells like they are ready to screw the players over. One year of uncapped salaries means tons of players will have to re-do their contracts come 2011. Yet, they will be locked in to a contract they signed in the uncapped year. So either re-do or just not get paid.

I bet my last dollar that all the upfront money of contracts signed in 2010 will come in later years. I'm willing to bet that guaranteed money will be LIGHT in 2010. These players just want to have a job come 2011. They will take anything in 2010.

You can't get rid of Pennington (the almost Offensive MVP of 2008)!

Pennington with his accuracy,if healthy, will easily beat out Henne for the starting QB in 2010. Just like Kurt Warner has Leinart riding the bench. I'll take a "weak" accurate arm over inaccurate strong arm anyday.

The receivers that can't catch Henne's passes were doing pretty good with Pennington. That says alot.

Henne could come get some cleanup play in the 4th quarter of blowout games in 2010 and compete in 2011.

I have six names for you to cut: Ginn, Ginn, Ginn,Ginn,Ginn,Ginn. This guy is an embarrassment, period. And worst of all, he is a coward, always looking to fall down or get out of bounds. Get rid and trade for a true WR that will take us to the next level. Mando, read your piece about the dire need for a stud LB but imho WR is much, much more important.
