Free agents on display during live blog today

NEW ORLEANS -- One reason I love covering the NFL playoffs is this is where the best teams are, thus this is where the best players are.

I'm covering the Saints and the Cardinals today and some of the players I'll be watching are the ones that could be available to the Dolphins in the coming offseason via either free agency or trade.

This list of the top free agents shows today's game includes several free agents that will be restricted (assuming no collective bargaining agreement is reached). But there will be one guy -- Arizona inside linebacker Karlos Dansby that is completely unrestricted. He is the 11th rated free agent on the Scout.com list but you'll also note he is the No. 2 unrestricted free agent (players with six or more years of experience) behind only Julius Peppers of Carolina.

Another player I will try to catch up with after today's game is Arizona WR Anquan Boldin. He isn't playing today because he's injured. But he's here and on my radar. I want to ask him if he will renew his request to be traded after this season. I want to ask him his thoughts of playing for the Dolphins. As I have reported to you in the past, the Dolphins have much respect for Boldin and would consider adding him in trade if the price is right.

We'll see what happens.

Hopefully we'll see what happens together as I am conducting a live blog during the game. So join me here and we'll discuss the game with the community of thousands of Dolfans that regularly visit this blog.

Remember, the live blog begins at 4:30 p.m. ET. Follow me on twitter.

Anybody know how many draft picks we have as of right now?

That was the other team I considered. I would say in the last 10 years, that years Colt offense wasn't one of their 5 best. It was more about defense that year, but anytime you have Manning, your offense can and will be explosive.

Dallas is the only road team that will win this week

man, Sharper is there each time... EACH TIME...

it is weird.. I thought every free safety came with a 3 yard forcefield that a receiver and ball could not penetrate unless the receiver caught the ball - and even that was an unlikely event.

Bush havin a big game...

Reggie Bush is having a dayyyyy

wow so much for the "reeling saints"

If Kurt Warner does not come back next year do you think that makes AZ more or less likely to deal Boldin?

LOL @ carlito and the homeless guy.

Bush gets the headlines but that blocking is what opened up the PR return ... Bush kind of reminds me of Ginn ... shows up twice a year.

And even then, you are still talking 2 times in this supposed era of explosive offenses we all covet, that a team didn't win the Super Bowl being a good defensive team.

miami has 9 draft picks including 3 in the 6th and 2 in the 7th.

bobbyd12, I understand what you're saying. Makes sense. But the NFL today is set up to favor offense.

You can't touch WRs. You can't touch QBs in the pocket. The officials look the other way on offensive pass interference. You have to have great offense to win.

lol - the best defense.. is a good 'offens'ive' odor.

Menace , i think indy is going to come out smoking. Indy 34 - balt 23.

Bootang25 ... if you remember, I believe Indy's defense was a major ? until the playoffs began. Also, aside from the Jets and Ravens what team that is left has a defense that outshines their offense?

The officials look the other way on offensive PI except for when it's Miami

one good hit from Freeney might knock flacco out since flacco is already starting partially injured..

It is damn near impossible to be dominant on both sides of the ball. The bulk majority ofteams have one side of the ball they are stronger on. I guess it comes down to what you would rather watch, 35-29 every week, or 20-16 every week.

Guys, you act like the debate is to have a great offense or defense. That is not correct.

The debate is to have a great passing offense or the crap the Dolphins have on offense, which is run first, control the ball, don't make a mistake and hope for the best.

Is It me or is tony(Iam Less disgusting to my wife since i droped 40 pounds)Seligususo, just a tool or is it just me???

You are right Mando, The game has changed.

Can you imagin how Dan Marino will kill with these rules today?

You are correct. They gave up 375 yards rushing, yes rushing, to Jax. But, in the playoff, there D really played a lot better. And if you remember, Bob Sanders got healthy for the playoffs. A big difference for them.

True mando, the Offense for the breathing mammals must EVOLVE.......

"For all those freaking out about Dolphins not having a DC, calm down... the post season is not even over yet, maybe the Dolphins future DC is still coaching... take a chill pill"

Carlito, as long as the guy we pickup isn't coaching the Cardinals D.

hard to say which combination works best.. often the key is which 3 or 4 teams you play in the post season.. which formulae would give you the best matchups against the teams you play...

Do you think my assessment of us being an explosive WR or TE is really the last missing piece on offense? Obviously continuity on the line is big too. But I'm thinking if we had the same exact offense this year, plus just a great wideout or tight end, we would have been really good on that end?

A more effective offense would certainly help the Dolphins' defense. I think we all agree on that

Think you have to have the tools to run the type of Offense you are speaking of Mando, but I agree that Bill Parcells is a little old school and needs to be more innovative on offense(not wild cat innovative).

I agree with you then Armando, we need to have more of a passing game in order to win.

BOOO, Did you watch any games this year??? There more pieces away then a chess board without any pieces on it....

We probably need a legit WR, a healthy Ronnie and a tight end that breaks free of coverage and stretch the middle of the field.. that would open up room for 'illo and Bess.. they are not big but with room in the middle, they could probably get a lot more YAC than they do today..

I agree on the TE, Bootang. I think it will take more than one WR. I think two more to go with Hartline. The fact is Camarillo and Bess are not explosive.

And Ginn? It's been three years, folks. I'm done hoping.

One of the shortcomings of a ball control offense is, you HAVE to score 6 on every drive. FGs won't get it done. The 2nd is, you've GOT to have not only a good D, you got to have a suffocating, 3 and out D.

mando.....dude u are smart

i guess that is one more reason we are all here today

Lets Cut GINN...................There's a start to the Offensive woes....

I did watch games Cuban. I'm saying this isn't Madden, I think an explosive player opens everything up for everyone else. Bess is a monster on 3rd down. Hartline looks legit for his role. We really missed David Martin and the plays he made last year. And Fasano didn't make hardly any big plays.

Give the Menace a shout out if you want to see Ted(No testicular fortitude)Ginn dropped before the start of the year...........

I think Bess will be very good in the slot if he has another WR to take the heat of em.

Bess, Explosive no, effective yes.

Sorry Mando.

I want an improvement over Ginn, but I doubt they just drop him.. I am thinking he will compete for a job and likely lose out unless he somehow found a tonic that helps him grow a pair.

What a lopsided game

I wanna get something for him CM, maybe if he started to work out with NJ he could tear some people apart.

My analysis of everything I saw this year, and I watched every single play, was that defense was much more a problem than offense. Not stopping Indy, not being able to keep the lead on NO, making Vince Young look like an All-Pro. Ryan Fitzpatrick running 31 yards. Torry Holt running wide open through the secondary. I can go on and on. It doesn't matter WHO we sign or draft on offense, if the defense doesn't improve, we will NEVER be a legit Super Bowl team.

hey mando
i love the te from florida i am awful at spelling but here it goes hernedez. i love this guy think he is what we need a pass catching te. Think he is gonna be a top te in the league what you think.

Agreed Bootang.

Armando, make a great point with how the officials call the game, it is geared toward the offense..on the other hand, the best way to beat an offensive juggernaut is to keep them off the field, long, sustained drives not only accomplish that, they throw off rythm..maybe growing up and watching mostly NFC East type football may slant my view on this subject...I definitly see ur point, just feel different on this subject

late to the live blog, so forgive me if this has already been said:

another sh*tty playoff game, compunded by Fox's NOLA suckfest.

what was the consensus her---was it a cheap shot on Warner, or clean?

I tell you this guys. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to watch Marino play the way the NFL is set up right now. Can you imagine? Don't you think he has to wonder why he couldn't have been born 20 years later. Lol.

I have two words for Dolphins: Vincent Jackson. He not Boldin is who they need. Boldin makes plays with his size more than speed where Jackson has both and he is ufa.

Guys there's no help for teddy, lets cut him before his contract kicks in, I mean no team wants a , wants a , well we know what teddy is,my hope is he ends up with the Pats and drops. falls down ,or just goes outta bounds like he's been doing for 3 years now with the Mighty air-breathers... We deserve better....

Sorry, he is rfa. I say they make a play anyway. The trifecta is way too conservative in personnel acquisitions.

Jackson is restricted and do you really think that the chargers are going to let him walk?

He will get tagged....

LOL @ Lips. Ginn needs alot of work.

I love Vjax hes awesome. But I dont think the Dolphins will go for him.

I do think there is a chance they make a play for Malcolm Floyd

ya, true, if he grew a pair, he would just be a fast shitty receiver with heart.

Sorry i meant PO.

LOL, Po.

LOL @ Lips
