Josh Cribbs, sure, but at what price?

The Miami Dolphins talked to the Cleveland Browns about Joshua Cribbs last season -- once for sure in the days and weeks before the October trade deadline and perhaps once another time much earlier.

Obviously the Browns, which traded away talent like it was going out of style, didn't budge on trading Cribbs. But all that may change now.

The Browns have a new football czar in Mike Holmgren and apparently Cribbs and his agent have gotten the message that a new contract is not in the immediate offing for perhaps the most outstanding and electric return man in the NFL.

So Cribbs believes he's played his final game in Cleveland. "Thanks everyone," Cribbs wrote this week on his twitter feed. "I love playing for the browns (sic) & put my all in to (sic) it, but it doesn't look good 4me(sic)  at this point on (sic) returning. I don't believe I made the to do list for the team in 2010."

Why does Cribbs believe he's gone? Because on-going negotiations yielded an offer from Cleveland that would have paid him approximately $1.4 million per season over the next six years with approximately $400,000 to sign. I must say that's a lowball offer.

And Cribbs agrees. "I'm sorry guys," he said. "I don't want to seem greedy but fair is fair and there is no way around that. I'm the best at what I do but the lowest paid ..."

So Cribbs intends to request a trade on the first day of the new league year and hold out if he doesn't get one.

"We’re going to formally put in a request for a trade,” agent J.R. Rickert told NFL.com. “He will not set foot in that facility again. If they had offered even something like $2.5 million per season we could have worked with them, but to me this offer is indefensible."

The fact of the matter is this is Mike Holmgren's first contract squabble in Cleveland. I doubt he wants to lose it. The fact is Cribbs is over-performing on a contract that has three years remaining. The fact is both sides have good leverage.

So don't be surprised if the Browns try to turn this mess into a draft pick with which Holmgren can bring in "his guy."

Enter the Miami Dolphins.

As we know, they need dynamic playmakers because there are precious few of those on the team. They could stand an upgrade at punt returner and kick returner. They could also use Cribbs in the Wildcat package, which he ran quite effectively in Cleveland. He averaged 6.9 yards per rush in 2009.

Oh, and did I mention Cribbs took snaps as a wide receiver also? He caught a modest 20 passes for 135 yards but obviously that is not his primary value.

His primary value is special teams. He returned three kickoffs and a punt for touchdowns this season. He has 10 return TDs in five seasons.

The downside is the guy does fumble. He had six fumbles in 2009 while fulfilling all his various duties. For perspective, you should know Davone Bess led the Dolphins with six fumbles in 2009.

So should the Dolphins be interested in Cribbs? Of course, they would be. But would they pull the trigger on a trade that would also involve paying the guy a new contract? That another matter.

If all Cribbs wants is $2.5 million per year, you should know the Dolphins are paying Ted Ginn Jr. an average of $3.5 million per year. Which is the better player?

And if the Browns are asking a second- or third-round pick for Cribbs, it probably sounds like an exceedingly high price to pay. But I remind you second- and third-round picks don't always turn into good players.

The Dolphins spent a second round pick on Pat White last year. They also spent a third round pick on Patrick Turner. Neither contributed very much, if at all, in 2009.

So what would you do?

Price master go slap yourself. PATRICK TURNER SUCKS OK SUCKS, PERIOD.... GET OVER IT WAISTED PICK. You guys are so stupid, for god sakes, why are you blind?? are you that hard headed? F.ck serioulsy stop with the stupid comments. GOD no waunder why our team sucks. Our fans are just stupid.

Today we are officially announcing a change in our persona. As Harvey Fialwhatever has been demoted, we today add Mike Boorishpenisface. We realize we are late in making this change. But we're typically late with any sort of information anyway.

Deuces.

There, that's better.

What do you think Mando? Will you continue to embarrass us professionally as usual?

Peace out.

I want Marshall, and Wilfork, thoughs two guys would make our DRAFT give us a VERY complete team. We could then focus on MLB'S SAFTIES, AND DEPTH for the draft. Making us a INSTANT playoff calibur team. Patriots will not slap the tag on Wilfork.

JOSHS YOU ASSWIPE, even if Wilfork is a Free Agent NE will FRANCHISE or Tender him.... Get real lil boy.

T.O. signed a 1 yr contract with Buffalo last year.
He's available. He likes South Florida. Parcells and him know each other. He won't cost a lot.

Is Josh Floridian slang for Retard?

Josh, how do you know Turner sucks? Just because we were overloaded with 2nd teir WR's and the coaches wanted to groom Turner and not just throw him out on the field? Did you watch the guy in college to know he sucks? The majority of WR's don't make immediate impacts within their first couple years, so why you think Miami's rookies this season suck when they didn't get a great chance of playing, not to mention going through a cople QB's. It takes a little more time to get timing down with new QB. Why do you think their were more drops in Henne's first few starts than towards the end of the season?

I think Josh wants to be in the middle of Wilfork and Marshall....he has way to much of a hard on for both of them!!

how about save the pick and use someone on our roster in some of those roles...my feeling is pat white will go into next season as 3rd string, since thigpen is steadier...that allows us to use white possibly at WR, returner, etc. he is a playmaker just not a great QB. list him 2nd on depth chart so we don't waste a roster spot but should anything happen to henne thigpen would be the long term solution just as we did this year with henne 3rd behind pennington.

draft picks are like gold...and yes some dont always turn out...but that 3rd round pick will make 1.5-2 mill less than cribbs. is it a guarantee no...but i think following the pats motto...the more draft picks you have the more chances you have to hit big...in a draft if you get 3-4 contributors it was successful but if we trade picks away we start limiting our opportunities to hit because we all know the draft can be a crap shoot.

go big or go home..if we aren't bringing in a marshall or jackson, boldin, etc...don't bother we have plenty of 2's and 3's..i dont see any of them coming so lets shore up the defense which killed us much more than the offense this year. this is a physical smash mouth team we will do that next year and take our shots with playaction, so we need a defense that matches that. giving up huge plays and getting ran on at end of the year is not complementing our offense...LB, DT, FS, LB, TE should be our top 5 picks in any order.

Josh how did this blog turn into a forum on race. What difference does it make about Welker or Hartline being white WR's? I'm at a loss for words!

Josh,
Take the penis out of your mouth while typing, it's causing you to make too many mistakes.
Let me remind you what the Tuna said to me last week: "I make $2 million a year and play golf 5 times a week for free. If I want the advice of bus drivers, janitors, the inebriated and the homeless I'll read Armando's blog".

Josh he was referring to you and your dimwitted, bonesmoking kind.

Carey, Polite Named To CNN/SI All-Pro Team by Peter King

So you think Josh and I are the same paerson, I think not, I'm not even American but we obviously have very similar thoughts.
Glad to see you finally answered my earlier question Indiana about what you think is the right thing to do......Hartline may be a pro bowl talent next year, Ochocinco is the wrong side of 30, we need youth and the last time I looked Hines Ward type of receiver is a possesion type receiver and we've already got too many of those.
We need a big, fast playmaking receiver who demands double coverage, can get behind the defense and make clutch catches. Your point about Marshall being a stud his first couple of years perfectly illustrates the futility in drafting a receiver to solve our problems. A Brandon Marshall/Vince Jackson would solve our immediate problems and then maybe even Turner developes, I could accept Boldin may even be ok if his injuries don't continue.
The point is we need a proven Receiver NOW to aid Henne's developement further and make this team a legitimate threat!

You guys are horrible fans. Nothing but grass fed Sheeple's. BAHHHHH BAHHHHH go to your shephard Parcells, and company. Go on go eat your grass, and believe. Go use your draft one first round pick every year to build your team. Let me know ten years from now if that works out for ya. HMM 73? 72 last year we won the SB. Hmmm how is that philosaphy working out for ya!! Mock me all you want, get mad all you want. Your logic has some decent points, but you better pray they get these two, or we gonna be a non factor again.

Cribbs for Ginn done deal! Yeah, right just woke up from that dream. Not sure Ginn has any real value on the trade market unless it's in "potential". Ok, I'd throw in Pat White to sweeten the deal too. Wake up!

LLOLOL Indiana

Germany Speaking...old news buddy, but still good news to hear!!

Carey pick suprises me and no Jake Long? People complain how he didn't do well later in the season, well he was playing with an injury and doing the best he could. I still think he is a beast and will come back to last year's form...

Thanks Canfin, good to see somone else who has a brain these guys cant think right.

Half of these fans, must have starred in the movie Idiocracy.

Josh's hard on continues....

Marshall plays when he wants and practices when he wants. Why would we want a player like that on our team?

I will agree with you on Wilfork, he would be a great pickup, but it is unlikely that will happen...

hey josh, reverse the situation. if we had brandon, would you trade him to the broncos for say a 2nd round pick?

if you had wilfork and he was free agent. would you let him walk or would you put franchise tag on him (remeber you can always take away franchise tag later)?

I wish it were that easy.

you're right most of the fans are stupid. you clearly show that.. wake up kid!

Lets draft, there isnt that many elite wr's in this draft, that are over 6'2, which is somthing the trifecta is looking for, but again, you cant expect these guy to understand that. Also, since there isnt any great safty pick ups, or MLB for FA this year, that leaves us going after Wilfork, and using our draft for S, and MLB, but again you cant expect these guys to understand that.

Well that makes two morons in this blog! Canfin & Josh, what country you from Josh. Race relations are real good here in Miami. Maybe a trip to the stadium so you can tell everyone about our WHITE recievers. Moron!!!!!

ONE MORE THING PARCELLS ALSO TOOK DREW BLEDSOE (BUM) TONY ROMO( BUM) ANY OTHER QB THAT PARCELLS SENT TO THE HALL OF FAME ???? OH YA NONE. E WILFORD MUST BE A GREAT WR BECEAUSE PARCELLS SAID SO. GIVE ME A BREAK. I LIKE WHAT THIS REGIME HAS DONE BUT OTHER THAN THE GIANTS WHAT ACCUALLY HAS PARCELLS DONE ????? JETS NOTHING, PATS NOTHING, DALLAS NOTHING. IM JUST SAYING!!!!!!

So what, a franchise tag BIG deal, if they do, then we either open the bank, or we wont, but either way, we wont be drafting a NT in the draft if we dont get him, and rely on Ferg to come back again, just to get hurt again. So instead of being a pessimistic about it, remain positive, and wish for it. I wouldnt give up Marshall, Im not a as.hole like Mcfagels. I pray we get him. He is 25, good god man, still imature, but will mature, with a much better organization around him.

Ok again, lets do it, you guys the genious, go ON YOU TELL ME HOW TO HANDLE THIS OFFSEASON? GO AHEAD I WANT YOUR PLANS THIS OUGHT TO BE RICH!!! IM LAUGHING ALREAY, YEAH YOU CAN TRY TO STEP ON MY PARADE, BUT AT LEAST IM LOOKING FOR ANSWERS, AND IM TRYING TO MAKE THE BEST DECISIONS, BASED ON FA, DRAFT, TRADES, AND THE SUCH, YOU DOUCH BAGS JUST RIDICULE ME, BECAUSE I HAVE THE BALLS TO AT LEAST COME UP WITH A PLAN, ALL YOU DOITCH-BAGS DO IS MOC IT, AND NOT COME WITH ONE OF YOUR OWN. SO TELL ME MISTER SMARTIES, WHATS YOUR PLANS????

Hey, having an opinion doesn't make me a moron D-dense and I resent the implication, resorting to namecalling when I haven't even addressed you earlier, really mature guy!!!!
Just because you don't agree with my opinion doesn't make either of us morons.
As for race, I think/hope he was meaning that all the superstar NFL receivers are coloured.
I don't have a race issue so don't even go there with me!!!

Are you guaranteed any pick is safe no matter the position or the player or if it is a FA pickup? Football and trying to pick talent in the NFL is a guessing game. I'm glad I am not in charge and just a fan...not as much pressure and I am not going to try to act like a general manager and say who Miami MUST go after!

Eagles went after a troublesome receiver (TO), Dallas went after a troublesome recevier (TO), Raiders went after a troublesome recevier (Moss)...how did that work out for those teams?? NO SUPER BOWLS!! Even if we get Marshall we are not guaranteed to be a better team.

BTW, how many playoff games has Marshall played in?? I REST MY CASE!!

why to big hissy fit about trading picks? the phins, whom I love, totally f'd up with the pat white pick - period! i've seen Cribbs in 4 games this year and have become a huge fan - get him!

DALLAS NOTHING --> weren't they the division champs this year in which was a team PARCELLS created. Build from the inside out!! Every team is as good as their offensive and defensive line!! PROVEN FACT!!

AGAIN HOW DO YOU SOLVE OUR WR PROBLEM, GO ON I WANT TO KNOW YOUR CHOICE IN DOING THAT, THEN I ALSO WANT TO KNOW HOW TO SOLVE OUR NT PROBLEM, GO ON IM LISTENING?? HOW ABOUT OUR MLB PROBLEM, GO ON STILL LISTENING, WHAT ABOUT OUR SAFTY PROBLEM?? GO ON FELLAS, WHO YOU GOING TO DRAFT, AND ACQUIRE IN TRADES, AND FA TO SOLVE UM IM LISTENING???

BTW, how many playoff games has Marshall played in?? I REST MY CASE!!

Josh, Can you answer this question?

you do understand that if they franchise wilfork we can't sign him unless we give up 2 first rounders right? so yeah, franchise kinda big deal..

as for marshall, wish all you want. I'll wish with you on the same star... then I'll wake up to reality and realize my power on madden just went out and I just saw ginn drop another friggin pass!!

let's face it, all the good WRs are either RFAs or gonna cost more than we're willing to give up.

Do you think every position can be fixed in one season?

IM NOT ANSWERING NOTHING UNTILL YOU TELL ME,WHO TO DRAFT AT WR, NT, S, MLB, OR WHO TO ACQUIRE IN FA, FOR WR,NT,S,MLB, OR TRADE FOR S,MLB,NT,WR???GO AHEAD LIST SOME PEOPLE GO ON, DO IT RIDICULE ME FOR COMING UP WITH A SOLID GAME PLAN, AT LEAST I GOT ONE A..HOLES.

TED GINN JR (Ohio native) + PAT WHITE FOR JOSH CRIBBS.

Did you know Cribbs was a college QB? How does that look in your backfield, considering he can RUN+CATCH+PASS? Oh yeah, plus he has 8 KO return TDs to go with 2 PR TDs.

Ok, talk amonst yourself...

jb - EXACTLY!!

It is going to be hard to fix every hole we have in just one more off season. Remember we are 2 seasons removed from 1-15, so the progress we made I am happy with!!

Josh, WR is like our 5th biggest problem. NT, ILB, OLB, and S all trump the need for a #1 WR. Our offense was middle of the road, is young and has potential to improve. Our defense was in the bottom third of the league, has too many old guys or guys that are in their prime that just don't play well. DEFENSE deserves teh pick, not DOUCHE BAG MARSHALL

Well Josh it doesn't appear to me that you have all the answers. Nobody said that Parcells is going to use his #1 draft choice on a WR! I think the tuna's going to go with a defensive guy. LB, S pick one. I think our needs on defense are greater then our O. I agree that we need a good (elite) WR. Whether they'll be on in the later rounds is suspect at best. We may need to draft someone that can come in and a rookie probably won't achieve that!

WHATS THAT INDIANA?? YOU DONT HAVE A PLAN, OH WAIT YOU MEAN TO TELL ME, MY PLAN SUCKS, BUT YOU DONT HAVE ONE, AFFRAID TO OFFER SOME FIX'S, THATS WHAT I THOUGHT, YEAH LET THE GM DO THE THINKIG, BECAUSE YOUR OBVIOUSLY OK WITH IT RIGHT? I MEAN YOU LOVE GINN DROPPING PASS' RIGHT? YOU LIKE PORTER, CROWDER, WILSON, GETTING BURNED ON A REGULAR BASE'S, SOLIA BEING MAN HANDLED FOR BIG RUNS, I MEAN YOU OBVIOUSLY THINK WE DONT HAVE ISSUES, OR YOU WOULD BE THINKING ABOUT HOW TO FIX EM.

Wilfork is not going to happen, to much money. Lets put Marshall in South Beach that will straighten him right up right. Pat Turner- Miles Austin sat on the sideline a couple of years and he figured it out. We will get a #1 and not break the bank. And Josh, what are we going to get for Porter? the same thing you have been drinking--BONG WATER

ok josh, here's the plan. we'll trade for andre johnson and calvin johnson for 2 of our 6th round picks.

get back welker for a 7th. I'd say another 6th but he did just hurt his knee.

trade porter for 2nd next year that could turn into a 1st cause I'm sure he'll make a TON of big plays for whoever gets him.

let's do that josh. look we can play fantasy football all day because that's what it is....FANTASY

NON OF YOU ANSWERED ANYTHING, AGAIN YOU JUST TOOK MY OPTIONS, BLASTED THEM, IF WE TRADED PORTER, A SECOND, AND CAMARILLO FOR MARSHALL, WE WOULD BE SET AT WR, NEXT IF WE DID WHAT WE HAD TO DO WITH WILFORK IN FA, WE WOULD BE FIXED AT NT. THEN LIKE YOU SAID WE TAKE OUR DRAFT, AND DRAFT THE YOUNG, MLB'S, AND SAFTIES TO FINISH ADDRESSING OUR BIGGEST NEEDS, THATS HOW I SEE IT, AS THE BEST POSSIBLE CHANCE TO MAKE THIS TEAM ELITE, NON OF YOU HAS EVEN OFFERED ANYTHIHG, EXCEPT NOTEING THE OBVIOUS WHICH EVERYONE IN THE WORLD KNOWS THE PROBLEMS OF THE TEAM, I AT LEAST MAKE A ATTEMPT TO GET THE BEST FIX FOR THEM, WITH WHATS AVAILABLE.

Last I checked we didn't too bad putting up points this year. Look for a quality WR in free agency, but forget trading picks. This team has been built by drafting. I don't want Marshall or Jackson for any picks. Use those picks to build a slow defense that had lots of problems stopping people.

When did Josh say they were gonna draft a WR in the first round????
I agree they will take best pick on the table at position of need, poss McClain (ILB) if he's there.
Anyway this is all pretty pointless until March, maybe the trifecta surprise everyone by making a big splash, maybe we will be trashing them for again achieving nothing in FA, the last 2 years have been pretty dire as far as FA goes with the exception of Pennington for one year.
Even though I'm setting myself up for disapointment again I have high hopes for this off season!!

You wana know fine, Trade our second, Porter, and Camarillo for Marshall. Trade Next years first round pick, and trade Tony Mcdaniels to NE to acquire Wilfork, if they tag him. Then in draft we acuire S mays, in first round, then in third round, take the best possible MLB, same with Fourth, and finish the fith, with a OL, and the three 6th round, and 2 seventh rounds for depth everywhere. Thats what i would do this year.

Josh, just stop your dreaming. The Pats are gonna give Wilfork what he wants, and the Tuna ain't bringing in Marshall. They is good, but not as good as you would like to think. He got shut down by our crappy secondary last year and practically moped around the field because of it.

you want a plan. DRAFT!!! how many teams have proven that's the formula. take a look at the redskins. what have they gotten back from all the picks they've traded for other peoples garbage. oh yeah, a new coach and front office.

when I say last year I mean 08 by the way.

Trade for Cribbs and pay him the money in a heartbeat!!!!

The best fix only when you're dreaming. Wake up man, this is a blog, what do you want names? Look you never know what the guy drafting ahead of you is going to do. FA for a WR. Period. Tuna's not taking an O player in this draft with the miserable D we have!

WR: Golden Tate, Jordan Shipley, Brandon Lafell, Mardy Gilyard
NT: Terence Cody
FS:Taylor Mays, TJ Ward
MLB:Brandon Spikes, Brandon Graham
TE: Jermaine Gresham

By the way here are some other options:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings/TSX/2010

I gave you options, now answer my question...

Hell yeah! Get Cribbs! Pay da man!!!!!

I reckon send them Ginn for Cribbs if they're stupid enough to take it..

Again my plan is the best plan. period. Enough said

Most of your options will be gone by the end of the second round. None of thoughs wr's are over 6.2, so they look weak as options. S Mays will be our first round pick. If we have a second round pick, then IF, AND I MEAN IF Cody is available which i dought, then we would take him.

We wont take a wr, unless he is THE GUY, because we are set at wr, everywhere besides mister elite. Cody wont be around in secound Maybe but doughtfull. Mays will be our first pick, which i like!!

Great plan Josh, fantasy league! Oh and by the way you sound like Bush/Cheney. Only you have the "right" stuff. Dreaming buddy, dreaming. Listen I heard Parcells really values you opinion. Give him a call!!!

There you go Josh!! Also, I never did say I didn't like your plan. I told you I think Wilfork would be great pickup, but just don't think it will happen. I am not disagreeing we need a big time play making receiver, but I just DO NOT LIKE MARSHALL!! I think he would bring bad karma to the team, just like Cutler did to the Bears!
