A quickie chat with Brandon Graham

Maybe the Dolphins draft Rolando McClain because everyone loves the guy and everyone says he's going to be a star. Maybe they take Eric Berry (if he's there) because they need a playmaking free safety. Maybe they reach for a nose tackle or a wide receiver.

I still love Michigan's Brandon Graham.

Have I made that point to you guys enough this week? Even as the adoption papers are being drawn up, I wanted to share with you yet more reasons I think this star DE-OLB from Michigan is the real deal and should be considered at No. 12 overall -- contrary opinions from Mel Kiper and Todd McShay and all the other draft pundits notwithstanding.

I direct you to this interview Graham did with Scout.com during Senior Bowl week -- before he went off and won the game MVP award with five tackles and two sacks.

In the interview Graham says a couple of things that caught my attention:

He expects to run in the 4.5s at the Indianapolis Combine next week. And he loves the idea of playing 3-4 outside linebacker.

"Oh yeah, I feel real good," Graham says about dropping in coverage. "I've been working on my hips, working on my drops every day in practice for Michigan ... With a little coaching from the NFL guys, I believe I can get it done."

Graham has no shortage of confidence. And he couples that with something of a chip that dares naysayers to disbelieve he can do whatever he sets out to do. That's why he says he wants to run in the 4.5s at the Combine.

"I'm excited because I like it when people doubt me," he says. "That's just a challenge and I like challenges and I'm going to try to fulfill it. And if I don't, then I gave it my all and that's all I can say."

One thing Graham has shown in all his games and all the practices at the Senior Bowl was a seemingly infinite desire. He wants to be good. He wants to improve. He wants to get to the quarterback. He wants to be an NFL star.

"[I'm] just trying to show that my motor's always going," he says, "I love football and I want to make plays and sack the quarterback."

You combine want-to and talent and you know what you have?

A very good NFL player.

bobbyd12 - That last post is not even the real Rob. Invalid TypePad account. Don't be so harsh buddy...

When you come back I have finally cracked the case!

I posted that Brandon Graham had gone around Baluga in the Senior Bowl erronsuosly and you busted my bawls for it pretty good. I realized I had mad a mistake and did apologise in a post which you noted later you read.

It bugged the hell out of me as I knew I had seen it. This Brandon Graham video has exactly that footage and really clearly too.

It's at 4:03 of the 8:12 total if you can't stomach seeing some other pretty damn good plays by Graham.

Baluga is going TOP 15 in every mock I have seen and is top 3-4 of most OT lists. He has talent and Graham blows by him.

THANK YOU BOBBYD! ROFLMAO. Ass if on que you proved my point, well done my man, well done.

I do not believe this is the normal bobbyd12 either...if not this impersonations is getting really dumb guys. It is a football blog, so let's stop acting like kids please and not play childish games!

STFU Boobyd!!!

You're a BIG man talking crap behind a computer!

You don't like Youtube clips OF ACTUAL GAME FOOTAGE cause you get exposed and you can;t take it... here's a crying towel baby, now get off the blog!

That's what people come here to do is chat football and some have conflicting views...get over it Small minded one!

Oh and by the way Cheers! Door hit ya on the way out runt!

Off the subject alittle,

Who else hates the fact that they've now scheduled the 1st round of the Draft on a Thursday?

Should have kept it on a Saturday me thinks...

No worries Indiana,

It's kinda hard to tell who's what and what's who in here sometimes.

I hope bobbyd has an impersonator to as he is being super douchelike today!

OK, I'll try again. The holes we have on the team now are pretty much the holes we had last year. And QB wasn't one of them.

Turner? 3rd round and can't get on the field.

Again Rob in OC wahhhhhhhhh write Dear Abby if ur feelings are hurt, ur a FRAUD who comes here with 15 mins of You Tube video and preach the same horsesh"t everyday...And if u look back u will see I've posted my seat numbers where my season tix are numerous times and not once has a PUS"Y such as urself has ever showed up...big talk from u...I wonder if the C in OC means CU"T???

Shawn merriman is an outside linebacker who before injury was outstandinq and made offensive coordinators stay awake at niqht

sorry mando, i want a ray lewis or andre johnson type with #12 pick. not convinced brandon graham can get sacks in the nfl

Those last posts were out of charater for me and I apologize.

I have seen bobbyd post over a long period of time and he is usually the aggressive type that is all over people like a bum on a balgna sandwhich for their views.

I went to the dark side and ate the fruit... I hope it was an imposter and if not..so be it.

I try to keep a healthy, positive attitude at all times because we all have hot buttons...some are just buried a lot deeper than others.

I acknowledge I got very mad but in the end you don't make me mad....I make me mad.

Thur is just knida weird...I'll wait and see if I like it or not but it does seem odd.

Yeah bobby,

I'll get right on that fly across the country and meet you at the bike racks thing.

Let me know if you ever come to disneyland, I'll drive that far there Skippy.

The great thing is we will both have ammo to use in a year or two about who picks the talent.

I can't wait!

Rob in OC - Whenever in doubt, click on their account and check their profile, you should be able to tell that way

Kobra Kai - Talk about low IQ, you don't even know our language well and once again are NOT talking about football.

Here is a football question for you: In youropinion who is Miami going to take at #12?

My point was I believe Parcells/Ireland will be more cautious this year. They screwed up last year and they know it. You can bet they'll be a lot more careful this time around.

Well,The gloves are off men.

I did watch all the vids you posted. I think I had seen two of them already or they were part of other footage I had seen.

The QB sack was new. There is an RB there to pick him up and the guy simply freezes. He doesn't even begin to try and block McClain until McClain is by him... McClain got the sack but there was no resistance...straight run to him.

I have a NJ PHIN post up 3:45 that shows Graham going right around Baluga who will be a TOP 15 pick at OT? it's at 4:02 of the 8:12.

It's all good.

Also while i'm on my YouTube scouting rant, after watching the many great highlight videos of Pat White and the Chad Henne is a joke videos, I now believe Pat White should be the opening day starter next year. Did you see the one where Vernon Ghoulston just killed Henne? WOW!! And then the way Pat White killed Oklahoma? WOW!! AND Pat White was the 45th pick, Henne was 56th. So I mean it is obvious to me, after doing my YouTube scouting, White should be the starter.

For anyone who doesn't pick up on the sarcasm, I in no way feel that Pat White should be starting. I am not saying he is a bust, not enough sample size to say one way or the other. As for Henne, he is definately the starter, and should be a 3600 yard, 23 TD guy IMO next season. I am out guys, and let's not resort to calling each other names, nothing gets accomplished by that.

Victor Barney:

Thats the thing...
Just go back and look at some footage of LAWRENCE TAYLOR...
It was like 'Effortless.. Destruction'.
It leaves you imagining that there could be some young kid in the next draft that might be similar. But so far, there hasn't been. There have been some s c a r y.. g u y s,...but none move with the same level of fluidness.

LT was incredibly strong for his size. He would use his triceps to knock back offensive Lineman at the point of contact. ...and because he was so althletic, he could shift and contort in mid-stride and slip through the smallest seam.

Anytime that someone says that a given Linebacker is good coming out of college;... there can be know true perspective unless he is compared to LT.

McClain will probably be a decent choice @ 12... but I still haven't seen the guy in any
FREAK-ING collisions!

If the name is in black type what is that signifying?

Thanks for the info ahead of time.

Hey Cap'n!!

Welcome aboard! It's kind of been a donneybrook in here today at times.

Too many global warming posts for a football blog but a lot of good posts in here too if you scroll back.

How's life treating you today? Any football you gonna hash out?

Merriman does play inside LB at times as well, but his position states OLB, so in a sense I am correct Kobra. It is still the LB position, whether it is ILB, OLB or MLB does it really matter????

I have a question concerning Parcells. Has he always drafted two players for each position? Or is this possibly part of Irelands apprenticeship? Where they each pick a player and watch their growth. Then leave it open for discussion later. It makes sense from the teacher/student education is why I ask.

rob in OC , nice posts .when did you wake up today ? i noticed you have been writing until 5.00 am . DO YOU HAVE A JOB OR LIKE CARLITO ?

Joe the Derivative Theif,

You won't see any or find any major collision's from McClain. I have been challenging the McClain fans carlito, NJ PHIN, boobyd and a host of others to find some awesome clips.

Carlito for 4 vids and put the together in a post @ 2:02 on page 4 of this blog.

You can watch them yourself and come to your own conclusions.

he can click my name when it is blue like he could of this morning Kobra. Now another impersonator with this TypePad URL: http://profile.typepad.com/dolfan20183 BUT has this screen name: Indiana Dolphan Once again nice try IDIOT. Armando is deleting all impersonators anyways.

Rob in OC - If they are in black that means they do not have an account with any the accounts the Herald offers and only use a name an email (that you can't see). Then it shows up in black and you can't tell, so don't let it bother you. That is why I finally got Type Pad account, so I couldn;t be impersonated and now they are trying to impersonate my TypePad account with NO SUCCESS!!!

Kobra what is a "1Q"? You'll have to explain that one and your other posts make absolutely no sense. I'm done arguing with morons, see ya.

Hows this for the Thursday night NFL draft. The Dolphins trade out of the 1st round then everyone goes to bed and in the morning they find out the team traded back into the first round. I think Cleveland did this years back.

And you're calling people chickens**t for not using real names yet you don't use a real name?! Are you seriously this fu**ing stupid?

Kobra - It is still a LB. It's not like I tried to say he was a QB or something...get over it!

You never did answer my question either from above @ 4:55

Get Dez Bryant! They can get an LB later.

Sup man! I fit a few hours (5) now and then.

I'm a retired self made gazillionaire...isn't that the case for all on this blog? LOL

Job is mortgage and mortgage is slow in some sectors.

As for the post times they are East Coast so 5am = 2am.

ALoco - You don't even have a TypePad account, but calling out everyone else to get one???

I've never seen such anger and angst among sports fan of the same team. Is this a Jets blog?

We need a virtual swear jar and timeout corner.

How does my screen name show up to you? Black or Blue?

Blue and the URL it takes me to is:

In return, their is something wrong with your TypePad account or something..?? I do not have that one figured out cause it has to do with your account, so need to figure something out with TypePad I assume?

I am not trying to cover up anything. I said Merriman was a MLB instead of his listed position, OLB... whoops!! At least I got the LB position correct...

Couldn't tell ya man.

Who do you think is faking your name?

Indiana @ 5:21,

Thanks for the help!

Well I am out! Talk later this weekend or next week. Have a great weekend! It is time for a cold beer!!!!!

indiana, i didn't write that post @ 5;24. it must be nj aka kobra kai .

Welcome to today's blog. Seems passions run deep with individual players and that turns into more than heated debate.

I try to block out most of the name calling but every now and again...things boil over.

Any football chat you got? New stuff, ideas etc?

Kobra - What part of this post don't you understand:

I am not trying to cover up anything. I said Merriman was a MLB instead of his listed position, OLB... whoops!! At least I got the LB position correct...

Posted by: Indiana Dolfan | February 19, 2010 at 05:25 PM

I stated I said Merriman at MLB, but he is listed as OLB. Get over it...

Whether I said MLB, ILB or OLB it is still LB position, so like I said get over it! I'm out!!

One more comment:

ALoco - You think Kobra is NJ huh? Armando could prove it, but either way sorry and who cares...lol

Cheers Indiana,

Have a good one bro.

OK guys, The Cuban has arrived, Shoot some "Qs"" to the menace... What's the first "Q" for the cuban??

Actually Merriweather played ISLB last year because of his knee. They tried to limit his lateral movement. He can play all the LB positions. He is one tuff sob when he played hurt when others go on IR for broken finger.

Q 1.) How was you day cuban?

2 Arrests and 6 tickets, and (Believe it or not) I rescued a KITTEN from a frozen drainage pipe.....Pretty standard..

put the arm length discussion to bed with this simple rhetorical question: How long do you suppose Zach Thomas' arms are?

Would you try to pick up Merriman?

I would have said "Yes" in the past but, I have not seen him able to bring it for a long time. Not sure if it's the surgery or not.

The story out of SD is they are over him and he will most likely not be back.

That whole Tila Tequila drama was just part of his escapades. He doesn't take a pro bowl mindset to his job...just working out.

My take anyways,

Miami needs backs and safties, look at the games they lost, it wasn't running the ball unless it was set up after a fifty yard pass play, colt-patriots-jets-atlanta-saints- lets get somebody that can cover a deep threat. we have twinkle toes and dumb do little, yea their rookies but 15 yards from a reciever for touchdown isn't that a little lazy or just not nfl material, personally i think both. hopefully the big 3 or big losers will see this is all about being able to pass, receive and defend. the days of grounding out the time clock is over, as i have learned after the losses the dolphins took, those were rediculious and it was because they could not cover anyone going deep. get some help in the defensive backfield and a decent wide receiver.
