A quickie chat with Brandon Graham

Maybe the Dolphins draft Rolando McClain because everyone loves the guy and everyone says he's going to be a star. Maybe they take Eric Berry (if he's there) because they need a playmaking free safety. Maybe they reach for a nose tackle or a wide receiver.

I still love Michigan's Brandon Graham.

Have I made that point to you guys enough this week? Even as the adoption papers are being drawn up, I wanted to share with you yet more reasons I think this star DE-OLB from Michigan is the real deal and should be considered at No. 12 overall -- contrary opinions from Mel Kiper and Todd McShay and all the other draft pundits notwithstanding.

I direct you to this interview Graham did with Scout.com during Senior Bowl week -- before he went off and won the game MVP award with five tackles and two sacks.

In the interview Graham says a couple of things that caught my attention:

He expects to run in the 4.5s at the Indianapolis Combine next week. And he loves the idea of playing 3-4 outside linebacker.

"Oh yeah, I feel real good," Graham says about dropping in coverage. "I've been working on my hips, working on my drops every day in practice for Michigan ... With a little coaching from the NFL guys, I believe I can get it done."

Graham has no shortage of confidence. And he couples that with something of a chip that dares naysayers to disbelieve he can do whatever he sets out to do. That's why he says he wants to run in the 4.5s at the Combine.

"I'm excited because I like it when people doubt me," he says. "That's just a challenge and I like challenges and I'm going to try to fulfill it. And if I don't, then I gave it my all and that's all I can say."

One thing Graham has shown in all his games and all the practices at the Senior Bowl was a seemingly infinite desire. He wants to be good. He wants to improve. He wants to get to the quarterback. He wants to be an NFL star.

"[I'm] just trying to show that my motor's always going," he says, "I love football and I want to make plays and sack the quarterback."

You combine want-to and talent and you know what you have?

A very good NFL player.

NP Po,

Fergie may end up playing a key cog in the wheel... I just hope we have more than just he and Solai throughout the next season. I think that would be bad.

They have to add another piece to this mix somehow. It's the supposed QB of the 3-4 for Pete's sake.

The Trifecta will get their man/men.

Cheers,

Soiled, you're on a roll.

Always glad you are here Joe, ya give a good counter point that is needed & appreciated round here.

(At least by me)

cocojoe,

Call him butter! ;)

Cheers,

Let me go back a few years. These so called draft experts think they know it all. A lot of them think if the guy is a monster in college it will follow into the nfl. Remember kiper asking who the heck is or what was jimmy thinking when he drafted zack thomas in the 8th rd.This Graham kid could turn out better than McClain and I also believe Tebow will make it too!. All the times and that stuff at the combine counts but,the one intangible everyone forgets is HEART and DESIRE to perform. thanks for your time

I like dansby a lot but I can't see it as value for money. when jf was playing we were top 10 d against the run. I remember offerdhal and thomas and my heart says get another dominating ilb but we play 3-4 now and i think spending big bucks on dansby (and he will cost a lot) isn't money well spent. I like the shout of graham(te) at 3# as i think he is well worth the risk even with lack of experience.

Would rather adress the NT position next year. LB this year.

Gonna have to give a first day pick for a NT that will stick.

Rob in OC:

You got it.

Just another example of an Owner who tries to use the strategies that made him successful at his OTHER businesses....but for some reason don't work in the NFL.

Cheers!

Address TYPO TYPO TYPO TYPO.

MaCo,

I am really not sure what the Fins do there.

My guess is the draft a safety they think can fill that roll in the 2-4 round??

I couldn't tell you whom though. I like Jones, Allen and Asante but, I actually believe that they may bring Gibril back another year. The Nolan based 3-4 will ask him to perform different tasks as I feel Nolan is gonna Blitz more. Gibril has been a very productive player in the past it's just that most feel like it's like having 2 x SS with he and Bell.

Maybe Clemons comes on more?

Cheers,

Hey Po,i agree with you. I hate the thought of drafting a NT in the 1st 2 rounds of the Draft. I hope we resign Ferguson or failing that, maybe we get really lucky and get Wilfork?

Thats my view too Mark,

Ferguson HAS TO LAST THRU NEXT YEAR.

Why do my posts always come out twice??

At least they post, I cant get my typepad to post at all. Takes two times.

Unlike that last one lol

Dennis Smith,

Zack was drafted in the 5th round of the 1996 draft but I deffintely hear what you are saying about how one player can be "rated" more highly and can get outperformed by others.

I don't know what to make of Tebow. I do know he won't be a Fin! =) He had mcuh success in college but he is such a different type of player it's hard to project.

Cheers,

Would rather have Tebow than White for a 2nd rounder.

But shoulda coulda woulda....

I think they feel clemons is the beter option but the dolphins can't pay Wilson wat their payinq him to back up either clemons or bell

Po, I don't get too involved this early in the draft. Too many variables, not enough reliable info. But depending on Parcells and a little luck, we could fill one spot in FA. And that would make the draft so much easier. Wonder if Parcells is thinking that too?

Hope so Jncrdn, Wilson has to go though.

Fellas,it's time for bed. Have a good night all of ya... :)

Question

Is Paul Soliai better then those NT's comming out of college right now.

The rap on Soliai was he is imature...is he finally growing up ?

He did have a couple of dominate performances but he was aslo schooled a couple of games.

Yes I think we need to replace Ferguson and add depth to the position.

I just don't think we should sell Paul Soliai short.

I think Soliai will be our starter from here on out with Fergie giving him a breather and tutoring the FNG(F-kin new guy)

Soiled :)

I'm with you joe, Just killin time now...
combine combine combine combine combine combine combine combine combine combine combine combine

Ah come on Mark, you gotta wait until the chicks get drunk first. You don't have to buy them so many drinks and they're easier to pick up.

SoiledBottom,

Another Reason to address NT next year...

Jncrdn,

Unless they were trying to make a play for Darren Sharper (which won't happen due N.O. resigning him) then I don't see the Phins cutting Wilson.

We have a new DC in Nolan that plays more aggresively and Gibril is better working towards the LoS than in coverage down field.

Plus that would highlight the Fins brass making a severe mistake and I think they will give it more time to shake out.

Demanding better play from ANYONE that plays FS this year is a must. I think the blitzier scheme should help disguise some weaknesses. They rap on Denver S Brian Dawkins was he couldn't cover and their Def played pretty well in Nolans system, for the most part.

Cheers,

@soiled bottom I have nothing against Soliai and think he may improve but there was a 30ypg drop in run d when jf went down, that is a massive difference. I think nt needs to be addressed sooner rather than later especially for such a difficult position to fill and with more and more teams switching to 3-4

Night Mark,

Cheers,

Soiled, no question about it. Chances are if we do get a rook 'NT', he'll be a 4-3 DT we have to train and hope he works out in a couple of years. But the question is, can/will Soliai be a dominant NT? Even if he does, who will his backup be?

Soliai has to step up big. He had a lot of crash learning in 09 to go with his back-up time.

The guys is big enough and simply needs to keep the motor running more and anchor better. Showed flashes but taht won't get er done.

Cheers,

Dear Mr. Salguero

I think I screwed up.

I may or may not have used another posters name in one of my previous posts.

In those posts I may or may not have used strong hard words like arrested, bail, and pipe dope.

Anywho if anyone named NJ comes to you to complain about these said posts that may or may not exist.

Please tell him my name was hacked.
You could do this for me right ?

We are tight....right ?

Soiled :)

Hey Fellas,

I'm going to act like a tree and leave.

So many options and decisions the Trifecta will have to blast through. I'm hoping that the lion's share work out.

Dansby would be huge piece, unless he already has one of those wink nod deals signed with the Giants.

Cheers all,

Cheers R in the OC

night bubba

Aren't we a polite bunch tonight! Well, I've got manners (sort of) too.

Goodnight Jim Bob, goodnight Mary Ellen, Goodnight Jason, goodnight John Boy.

You know it can change fast round here Joe....

I do not know if he can play a 34OLB but he is a hell of a player, I worry about DEs turning into 34OLBs because it is hit and miss, some can and some can not do all the extra stuff it take to play 34OLB. The one thing I do know about is this kid is he can get after the QB and that is 75% of what a 34OLB does but can he drop back and cover in zone? At some point a 34OLB has to do just that. I see Him as a top 20 pick but #12 night be a reach. I would be happy if we draft him at #12 because Bill would have seen that he can play 34OLB.

I trust in Bill and Co.

Dear Mr. NJ PHIN FAN

All in good fun and glad your not mad :)

Soiled :)

NJ, have you posted at all today? I just finished reading the entire thing and they were talkin about posts from you all day long (that seemed serious) yet they were all missing. Did Armando go crazy rmeoving them all?

Really? dont believe in global warming? what part of science dont you believe?

Go phins!

The move is: Trade Camarillo to NE for Adelious Thomas/Move Patrick Turner up the depth chart to active/Draft CJ Spillar with 12th pick/Sign Casey Hampton

Anyone out there familiar with the infestation of pine beetles in the Rocky Mountains? Well they have been able to reproduce in months when they should be dormant(Dec-March)In short the warmer winters have led to infestation, and the death of western pine forests. What, and who does this effect ranges from indangered Grizzly Bears(White Bark Pine is a huge source of their diet, and a favorite of the pine beetle) To communities that depend on forestry for local economy. I can see the effects of warming right out of my front door. I live in a town that has seen average snowfall decrease from an average of 350 inches a year for the last 120 years. down to 225 for the last six. Snowfall that came in early October and ended in June. To snow that may come in November, but is gone by early may. The Glacier that we used to ski on EVERY MONTH of the year, melted to the point it is only safe in the winter. OPEN YOUR EYES people!Global Warming is real.

Wilfork won't be a Dolphin unfortunately.I'd be really surprised if the Tuna gets anyone in FA.It's all gonna be in the draft.

darryl , you're a jackazzzzzz !!. the rest of the country has been in a deep freeze and have had record snow falls. now go back and lay doormat like a pine beetle or go crawl under a rock. OPEN YOUR EYES, global warming is scam so the likes of al gore and green energy companies can make BILLIONS !!! WAKE UP !!! FOOL!!

Darryl
Dunphy!!!!

Why do you Care?????

The World is supposed to end in 2012 anyway!

NAG
Easy for you to gbe bitter, because your ignorant. When you can see these things with your own eyes, not misinfo from a web site or Fox News. You will relize it is happening, it is real and needs to be dealt with. Don't be scared it's ok.

" your ignorant " ??? you mean you're ignorant. " relize "??? you mean realize .You can't even write or speak good english , You want us to believe you ?? you're just another dumbazzz backwoods hillbilly who has fallen for the msnbc and liberal propoganda, you've been brainwashed son. it's ok don't be stupid

Screw global warming u guys, seriously, go somewhere else. They should stop ALL talk on here that doesn't involve football. Having said that, if Eric berry is not available, as much as we need a wr, I say we have to go after Brandon Graham. I'm from Columbus and the wolverines are my second favorite team behind the canes, and he is a beast guys. He will be so much better tha. Maclain it's sick. Here's the bottom line: if we don't take either Eric berry, Brandon Graham, cj spiller, or dez Bryant I am done being a parcells backer, and I was his biggest one. He has had hardly anything but failures in free agency, because he refuses to get ANY experienced NFL players and opts for either only draft picks (too expensive and risky) to only players in FA that are NOT playmakers that he has experience with In the past. Why is that? We won't go after wilfork, cribbs, Braylon Edwards, TO, dansby, ochocinco Brandon Marshall....why? Because all are great playmakers that would change our team...but they have taken snaps in this league or try have no history with parcells so they aren't anything to him. Please. I'm over that.

looks like you'll be done because none of tem wiil be a dolphin. good bye !! who needs you.

Ignorance is seeing science made up by global warmists and still believing in it. Ignorance is seeing people change the name of global warming to climate change because it suits their agenda and not questioning why it was done.

Mando I have often disagreed with you on this site on issues of football and politics but I have never seen you write anything this honest execpt following the death of a family member. As for the draft pick at #12, I like your choice but this draft has plenty of tallent so there are lots of good options. I think I would trade down for extra picks.

Should have trown in an extra jab at global warmist. Why is it that these record cold temp and record snow falls all point to global warming? Last time I checked it snows when it gets cold out not when it gets hotter. I have been living in Ga. since the first week in Jan. and we have had freezing temps virtually every night since our arrival. I grew up in a part of SC that mirrors the weather paterens that this part of Ga. gets and I don't remember it being this cold for this long.

liberal or republican, your both brainwashed and ignorant so its best to move on and discuss football on a football blog

Hey Darryl Dunphy,
