Dolphins football czar Bill Parcells came out from behind the iron curtain of Dolphins silence Monday to do a live chat on NFL.com.
And during that chat he was asked about the Super Bowl, his time with the Cowboys, his relationship with Dan Henning, and other things. There were even a couple of good Dolphins questions that he talk.
The big headline of the entire chat?
Parcells is noncommittal about Jason Taylor's return to the Dolphins in 2010.
"I don't know the answer to the Taylor question at this moment," he said. "He's a free agent as of March 5 and we haven't discussed it yet. We'll see where that goes when the time comes."
Frankly, Taylor is noncommittal with the Dolphins as well. Why does this seem like two people who want to date but neither is willing to make the first move? Too bad because what normally happens in those cases is they wind up with other people.
New England Patriots? New York Jets?
The Big Tuna was asked if he took the call from Rex Ryan during the season when the Jets coach called for advice.
"Rex did call -- but it was for advice on the Breeder's Cup," Parcells answered. "I told him he should consult with someone else on that matter!"
Parcells was asked if the Dolphins are interested in bringing in a No. 1 receiver for quarterback Chad Henne.
"... we'd be interested in the position," he replied. "But they have to be available, we can't invent them."
Parcells was asked if the Dolphins might be interested in Chad Pennington as a coach, which is not a good question because Pennington wants to continue to play. And Parcells said as much.
"I think Chad's intention is to try to continue playing, so I don't think coaching is on the forefront for him right now," Parcells said.

Let's trade Jerry Porter for one of Rex Ryan's ass cheeks. Rex's ass cheek can stop the run better than porter can.

Fishypete:
You bring up an interesting scenario... but it sounds like your vesting a lot of confidence in Marshall's character...
After all...this is a guy who got suspended last season for refusing to practice. ...and was making public comments to the press most of the year. Is he really worth a potential first round pick?
Can you vouch for the fact that he won't be a disruption?
Porter's probably going to forced to leave for mouthing off...
Sparano believes the "right" 53 guys.
I'm not sure I agree that Marshall's upside is worth his potential 'Cost of Ownership'.
Thoughts?

Neither do I.

LOL @ thunderbolt. add to the fact that almost all of porters tackles were 10 yards down the field already and teams were running right him . LOL !! I don't how many times he failed to set he edge on plays. one glaring example was bills qb ryan fitzpatrick racing down the sidelines for 35 yards and a td on porters failed containment. He 's freaking horrible vs the run and setting the edge . case closed

Thunderbolt,
Can't argue with the math...or your personal view of the two players. My insticts (that and $1.00 will get you a cup of coffee) tell me that Porter has the greater upside for the short term because both of them are short term players at this point. JT has the HALL to look forward and its time for his clock to begin. The Dolphins have a football team to build and I don't want to see him hold us back for a few more sacks on his stat sheet.

Two years ago i watched Vernon Davis block Porter with ease one on one the whole game. Porter got his only sack when Davis went to the bench. Does anyone here think Vernon Davis can block Jason Taylor one on one.. Spare me.

is he probably not talented enough to absorb the high level of activity that is essential for this structure of defense?

Funny thing is that Brandon Marshal was the one who got in to it with Joey Porter last year when we beat them. Brandon said Joey was Soft and had Popcorn Muscles.

...and one last thing.
They've got one guy (non-disruptive)
who's perfectly happy being in the game only during passing downs. (...because he feels that he's most effective, part time, in that role.)
And they've got another guy (emotionally-stupid)
who's under the DELUSION that he's the best outside Linebacker on the team... who refuses to get off the field -- even when it undermines the defense's game plan.
Which one do you THINK they'll keep?

Any good coach or GM does not tip thier hand in February. A lot can happen between now and the draft.

The last time Fat Parcells talked about Taylor was 2 years ago, when he said he will not trade Taylor. Then he traded him. Fat Parcells is a liar just like Saban. It sickens me to be a Dolphan and have these men look the fans in the eye and lie to our faces. Matt Millen was the most inept GM in history, but he never lied to the fans. Parcells is simply a liar, and the facts prove it.

WISH LIST FOR DRAFT ..... MCCLAIN (1ST CHOICE) DEZ (2ND CHOICE) .... IF NEITHER ARE AVAILABE IN ROUND 1 TRADE DOWN ..... I LOVE GRAHAM (OLB) OR ULAPATI (OG) ..... AND WE COULD PROBABLY PICK UP ANOTHER 2ND ROUND PICK IF WE TRADE DOWN .....
2ND ROUND ...... EITHER SPIKES OR WASHINGTON (ILB) PLUS CODY, NT (HE WILL BE THERE IN 2ND ROUND)
HIDEN JEWELS: ROLLE (S) FROM FSU IN THE 4TH ROUND ..... BARNES (WR) FROM BOWLING GREEN IN THE 6TH ROUND

Pennington would probably be a really good coach. I think Henne has shown some really good flashes of talent, but we currently don't have much for him to work with.
Ted Ginn needs to be gone yesterday! I think I would be a more productive receiver than this waste of money? I like Devon Bess and I think he has great potential, but I'd like to see someone like Houston's Johnson, or Philly's Jackson, who can give a defensive coordinator fits.
It may also be time to start thinking about drafting an RB, as this is Ricky's last season, and Ronnie still can't stay healthy. We've got alot of holes.
Posted by: John B | February 02, 2010 at 09:45 AM
they better promote thigpen or get another QB also this offseason because with all the injuries at the QB position if we go into next season with pat white as the number two quarterback then something is terribly wrong with the football people running this orginization. just sayin
Posted by: kc | February 02, 2010 at 11:23 AM
I know Parcells knows football. But he has such a mean Jersey attitude toward the fans and the media down here that you wonder if he is worth it? I mean the guy just does not talk to the fans or the press. That is not normal for a guy in his positon for most NFL teams. When Shula was here the Dolphins were such a fan friendly team. It has never been the same since he left.
Posted by: Mike Gentile | February 02, 2010 at 02:48 PM
The Tuna's time came and went. He had great years but the game has passed him by. I hope I'm wrong but the Dolphins will continue to be mediocre while these wanna be maffia guys are running the show.
