Dolphins In Depth Scout digs up Combine info

Well, I promised some surprises during the Combine so let's get to it.

As you know Chris Cordero has been traveling to events such as the Combine and Senior Bowl as he tries to connect with an NFL job as a scout. He studied under some pretty impressive people and I trust his insight and eye for talent. Many of you appreciated his insight based on his Senior Bowl reports.

Cordero is at the Combine now and will be sending along tidbits he hears and sees from his growing number of connections. He'll do this throughout the Combine and I'll post them here.

This is his first report:

"Hearing from one of my buddies that's in the know (he is legit and called the Pat White pick last year as well Terrell Owens signing with Bills) that the rumors of the Dolphins going hard after Karlos Dansby are true.

And while the Dolphins seem to be willing to pay the price - no one thinks the Dolphins will go as far as making him the highest-paid linebacker (whereas another team - the Giants most likely - might go that far).

It also looks like Anquan Boldin will most likely get traded this offseason. The Cardinals and him are going to give a contract extension one more shot and if that doesn't work out look for him to be moved. The asking price will likely start at a 2nd rounder and the likeliest suitor is Baltimore and then the Dolphins.

Also hearing that it looks very likely, provided his shoulder is not damaged to the point say Chad Pennington's was, that Sam Bradford will be the #1 pick. How this affects the Dolphins would be that the #2 and 3 picks become Suh and McCoy with the Redskins likely to go either offensive tackle or Jimmy Clausen at # 4.

That means that top S Eric Berry could fall some as might top WR Dez Bryant. The teams in front of the Dolphins don't have great needs at those positions and if the Broncos don't move Marshall then the other main landing spot for Bryant is the Browns.

So there is a chance -- albeit slim, and things always change between know and the draft as we know, that the Dolphins could have their choice of WR Bryant, S Berry, and ILB McClain.

Finally, McClain appears to be slipping and might need a great combine and pro day to stay in the Top 15, and among any of the top rush LB prospects.

--Chris Cordero

Check back throughout the day as Cordero has already sent more updates and I will post them soon.

For those that REALLY want Dez Bryant...

Since the draft is ALWAYS a crapshoot going from college to pro's, would it be safer to go with trading a 2nd rounder to Denver for Marshall?

Dez seems to have some diva like qualities (a must have some think for a WR to be good...ask Michael Irvin) but the main thing is "HE HAS NEVER TAKEN A SNAP IN THE NFL"! This means he could be the next Mike Williams USC WR, Keyshawn Johnson WR or... Brandon Marshall??? Who knows?

We ALL know Marshall aready has the "Diva" label and has exhibited non team player type antics... but he is a proven talent and is still young. He can play for a long time.

If you take Marshall you get a proven talent, that is still young and just need to keep him in check. You need to sign him to a fair market contract. You ALSO should be able to keep your 1st rounder as the price is said to have dropped to a 2nd. That last point is the kicker imhp.

So it could be possibly:

OLB Brandon Graham and Proven WR Brandon Marhsall with known diva qualities.

VS

Unknown WR Dez Bryant with suspected diva qualities and (fill in your second rounder)

I am not a huge fan of getting Marshall or Dez as I have amways believed in the team concept. I feel that teams can actually go much farther when the really care about there fellow teamates.

I am just tossing the concept out there for discussion if one feels that WO should be addressed early on...

Cheers,

DANSBY WANTS TO COME TO MIAMI!!! WOOHOO

BUT HE ALSO SAID HE WANTS TO BE ONE OF THE HIGHEST PAID LB'S IN THE NFL SOMEHWERE AROUND THE 30 MILLION MARK--- WHERE DOCTOR EVIL WHEN YOU NEED HIM LOL--

I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE DANSBY BUT I WOULDNT PAY THAT MUCH FOR HIM I RATHER DO IT THRU THE DRAFT

HE WOULD ALMOST WIPE US OUT COMPLETELY

HES AWESOME BUT HE IS NO RAY LEWIS

HOW MUCH DOES RAY LUIS MAKE ANYWAY??

ONE FREE AGENT SIGNING ISNT EXACTLY MAKING MOVES!!

WE HAVE TO BE AGGRESSIVE BUT NOT DESPERATE

LIKE THE GIBRIL MOVE

THAT WAS JUST STRAIGHT DESPERATION OR THATS THE WAY IT SEEMS NOW

DEFINITELY WE OVERPAID

BUT YOU GET ME

TO was a superstar that Parcell picked up... even if he didn't play like it at Dallas.

On second thoughts, I realize I am an idiot

That last comment was not by me. Obviously.

TERRY GLENN, K JOHNSON, TO REALLY ALL GREAT WR MY ASS. THEY SUCK IN BOOK ALL LOUD MOUTH BUMS. PLEASE READ ALITTLE MORE CARFULLY I SAID GREAT DEFENSE NO GOOD. QUIT WITH THE SELECTIVE READING.

Boldin for a 2nd is a rip off - I hope we do NOT pull the trigger on this. We need the 2nd pick for Defense!!!

Mando,
Will you please address the depth chart issue at WR.
The Phins dress 4 WR's on gameday, they keep 1 inactive.
Actives:
Ginn (also KR)
Bess (also PR)
Camarillo
Hartline
Inactive:
Turner
To move Turner up the depth chart one currently active has to go (Camarillo).
To move Turner up and add a reciever another active has to go, who do you think that will be?
Based on contracts it has to be Bess (or Hartline).

To all of you afraid of 'divas" let's be clear:
The top doctors, regardless of specialty are divas, so are the top lawyers, so are the top business people, so are the top chefs, top salespeople, so are the best looking women etc.

(You have to trust me on this because none of you are qualified to interact with the top people in any profession with the exception perhaps that you might have met the top repo men.)

Bobby...im reading it like you...that report is CLEARLY telling us that DANSBY is heade for the GIANTS...he wants them and they will pay...why are we getting all excited???

Also..Boldin deal is important for us...a 3rd is GREAT business...we cannot seriously challenge without a CREDIBLE No1 receiver this year....YES...fix the linebacker sitaution and NT....but to me WR is definitly a PRIOIRITY...

if we cant get dansby, i say we go for mclain in the first, and trade our 2nd and 3rd or 4th for marshall and boldin respectively. Henne is the future , the future is now and he NEEDS weapons. along with bess or camarillo in the slot? ronnie and ricky in the back field for one more year, now tell me that isnt an offense to be feared????? dump pat white, hes a joke. trade hartline or/and ginn away to AZ and youll get boldin for a 4th rounder. News flash , Cards need a Qb now that warner is gone. trade them pennington and a 4th or 5th for boldin! Offense needs to be priority with FA's this year, we need to score points , in a division with Braylon , Moss, and T.O. ., we need our own, and no one could cover ricky ronnie boldin and marshall on the field at once , and it could realistically be done , if the right steps are taken. use our number one for defense if we want, but 2 and 3 or 4 should be for receivers. i think we should keep JT and peezy, we need veterans , tuna has to be careful he doesnt go too young too fast, or we will end up with a defense like the pats last year!

Man... you can check this blog once a weeks and get the same 4 people arguing over McCain. Marshall and Boldin... with one Crack Head talking about changing his name if any of the come to Miami.
I would like to see Miami take a shot at getting NT Torrell Troup 6'3 314 out of UCF... He could work under Ferguson in his last season to learn a bit of the position. A couple other guys I could see as possible help at the NT position would be Cam Thomas 6'4 331 NT out of North Carolina or Kade Weston 6'5 320 out of Georgia. At TE there are two guys one of whom Sparano took interest in at the Senior Bowl. My top TE selection would be Dennis Pitta 6'5 247 out of BYU.. He is one or two inches shorter then I would like to see, but he is a great blocker and has all the brains... His stock is up and looks to go from Early 3rd to late 5th rounds. Miami could grab him in the 4th. Also there is TE Jimmy Graham 6'6 250 out of the "U" He's a homer and Sparano loved his work in the Senior bowl. He had the largest hands of the six TE's who were at that event. Jimmy only played one year under Randy Shannon after leaving the B-ball team. Looks to still be around in the 5th or 6th. As some late round help on the O-line... OG Jacques McClendon 6'3 324 out of Tennessee would fit behind Smiley as either a rotational guy, or if Smiley continues with the injury issues which really hurt Miami down the stretch he could step up to that spot. Tennessee is not my Favorite Miami pick location.. but their Offensive Line guys are solid.

Dolphan... You would really give up three draft choices for Boldin?
Do you believe that Boldin can do the work of the three guys that he would be losing us in the draft? That is a full 1/3 of Miami 2010 Draft for one player who has had nothing but issues with his current club for 3 years. I like Boldin... I believe he is worth a 3rd and a nice trade option... or even just a 2nd. But 1/3 of the entire draft for a receiver who can get hurt in Camp on the first play? Been there done that two years in a row... his name was Yatile Green... anyone remember him? Probably not... he finally made it to the field the third year of his contract with Miami after two ACL's in a row. He was the Best receiver in the draft by far... and we got him...NOT!!!

no derek i was saying if you read it carefully that i want to trade the second pick for marshall and a 3rd OR 4th for boldin. or do a 5th pick and trade deal with them for boldin. no one is worth 3 picks.

If the Dolphins draft a safety in the first or second rounds requardless of who is there they have no clue. They need LLLLLLLLBBBBBBBBB's.

unless its peyton manning !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and boldins issues are that the club doesnt want to pay him what hes worth and he wants a long term deal. He is a hard worker and extremely tough, and very skilled and gets unbelievable YAC stats and that is what we need. He wants to be the man in a place that wants him for the long haul and that is what we can offer him. He is someone that will sacrifice everything including his body to play for an organization that will pay him fairly and be loyal. Sparano , Tuna and boldin would be a perfect match

Trade Ronnie Brown for Vincent Jackson now that SD needs a RB. Sign LB Dansby, Sign soon to be FA FS Rolle. Draft NT Williams RD 1, Kindle Rd 2, Best RB available in RD 3. All our needs are now met.

don't mean to rain on yours parade but if there's inside info that we're going after a player then chances are we're not really going after him.Our FO would not tip their hand so as much as I'd like for us to have Dansby it might not happen.

Ozzy rules!!

Thanks for making that clear Dolphan... and please understand I was not trying to be contentious... Just caught my eye when I saw three picks for a 30 years old receiver. I see your point and would not have an issue with either move. Marshall is a very risky guy. I think if Miami was able to get him here, it would be up to the management and coaching staff to "get his mind right"... He could be a guy that places a team on a championship run... he is also a guy who could make what TO did in Dallas look like a love affair. I honestly think we should not rule out Antonio Bryant. Not that he is my choice... I just think of all the available WR this Free Agent season... he is the easiest mark. Of all them... Boldin would be my choice... I would not personally flinch at a #2 pick trade for Boldin... but... I am not this management staff and I do not see them EVER coming off anything higher then a #3 or perhaps even as low as #4. Once again..Dolphan... I appreciate your posts and input, and was not attempting to be sarcastic.

@WHAT! - You wanna talk recent 2nd round picks?? How about Sean Smith in 2009 and Chad Henne in 2008 (with this "regime"). Are you absolutely retarded, or do you just not think before you post?????

Maybe the Fins are working a deal with the Chargers. Trade Ronnie Brown and a pick for Sprolls and V. Jackson ..Draft Spillar #12 pick up Dansby in FA..

The pick up Dansby means trade C. Crowder for a draft pick or set up a deal to send T Ginn and R. Brown to the 2nd or 3rd pick for a much needed young DT. Move G. Wilson to FS and let Allen or Y. Bell challenge to be starter. Then draft a SS with the 2nd round pick. That's the way to stop getting beat in the middle. As for WR, there have been many top WR's in the later rounds, pick the top one with the third pick.

Don't give Saban the satisfaction by picking one of his players. McClain my be good, but don't pick him because of that SOB Saban.

Rizzo

Thanks, I enjoy these. I don't think I would give up a high pick for Boldin and them have to pay him a lot of money when I believe he is on the wrong side of 30 and tends to get injured. He could start declining any year now and Miami has too many needs.

Why don't you do some of your owm reporting?

Nice to hear your opinion for a change. You do have one? perplexing how you mask your inadequecies in others.
