Done with the old, on to the new

A tidy little game was played in South Florida Sunday evening. The Saints won. The Colts lost. And soon the other shoe will drop in South Florida.

Good-bye Joey Porter.

The Monday after the Super Bowl is the first day NFL teams are able to release players after the season. An NFL source said Sunday the Dolphins will release or trade Porter as early as Monday, depending on the trade market for him.

The Dolphins would prefer to find a suitor for Porter and if that happens, March 5 is the earliest date he can be traded. If the Dolphins have already determined Porter has no trade value, they will release him.

Either way, Porter will not be on the team for the 2010 regular-season opener.

Speculation here: The Dolphins typically act quickly and decisively in such matters. The fact Porter has become such a royal pain embarrassment -- sliming the team at every opportunity -- might also play into Miami's timing.

So it would be no surprise for this move to happen sooner rather than later.

Other Dolphins players should also spend the next month or so reading the scroll on the various sports shows and websites to see if their names are featured among Dolphins cuts or not.

Free safety Gibril Wilson is on chopping block. I'm told the Dolphins would consider keeping him if he takes a significant pay cut. But there is no guarantee he'll take a cut because he declined one in Oakland last year. So the Dolphins have a decision to make on this, one of their signature free agent signings of 2009.

Speculation here: I believe Wilson is not on the team when the 2010 season opens.

Other players that might be on the line unless they take pay cuts include Jason Allen and Reggie Torbor.

Spike Lee ur movies suk as bad as ur blog

bobbyd12, why are you mad ?

Not mad at all

This isn't about race spike lee , it's about an idiot that talks all kinds of smack but gets punked on the field. Has nothing to do with skin color bro. Joey porter sucks balls just like your movies u idiot

dolphin fans are busy talking about race when others are have won the super bowl .

Browns release Stallworth! I think the fins may sign him after Goodell reinstates him. He never really had a chance as a 1 WR.

Sorry t, no way is Stallworth a number 1 receiver. And he's not a character guy. Not a chance Parcells adds a guy like this to his team.

CHARACTER GUY ????????????????????????????????

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
BAAAAAAAAAAAAA
MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I think spike lee is on to something. I have heard this rumour a few times this season.

BYE BYE Porter !Your not a real Miami kind if guy anyways. Way to soft !!! Go find a new town to dance in with your shirt of while at the clubs. San Fran sounds perfect for you

I think it would be pretty hard for the Dolphins to bring in a guy who ran over and killed a Miami resident while drunk...There might just be a little public relations problem with that, don't u think???

IF HE PAID TO SOCITEY , IT'S OK TO BRING HIM TO MIAMI .THE LORD FORGIVES SO DO WE .

He paid nothing to society...he gave a huge chunk to the guys relatives and got a sweetheart deal..ant other poor slob woulda gotten a 15 year DUI Manslaughter sentence...don't cone in here and give us that paid his dues BULLS"IT

I CALL THAT HE PAID TO SICIETY ,HE PAID THE FAMILY .IN OTHER PART OF THE WORLD IT'S ALLOWED TO PAY THE RELATIVES A SUM OF MONEY , IT'S BETTER THAN JAIL .

This isn't "other parts of the world" this is a privliged athlete who got a deal that anyother member of society who doent make millions of dollars wouldn't

Now I know why u call urself Donkey, cause ur a full blown total ASZZ

SO WHY YOU ARE UPSET ? YOU RATHER HIM BEING IN JAIL AND WE THE TAX PAYERS PAY FOR HIS SLEEP AND FOOD ? PLUS THAT WAS NOT A PREIMATED KILLING .I WISH ALL PEOPLE WHO COMMIT A KILLING BY ACCIDENT ARE THAT RICH AND NEVER GO TO JAIL .

Maybe someone will run over and kill one of ur relatives, see how generous u are...anyway I'm done talking to a complete AS"HOLE..

IF SOME ONE RUNS OVER A SECOND RELATIVE OF MINE HE HAS TO PAY A LOT OF MONEY .BUT IF IT'S A FIRST RELATIVE IT WOULD BE A LOT MORE MONEY .

Why is he not cut already?

Bobby, dont argue with"Aloco", We up here in N.Y couldn't believe that deal that Mr. Stallworth got... Doesn't say that much about the victims family either... unbelievable....

So your relatives are nothing but money to you?

Scaizo, Third world thinking, these people are 400 years back in thinking......

IF YOU HAVE THE CHOICE TODAY BETWEEN GOING TO JAIL AND NOT GETTING ANY THING AND GETTING A LOT OF MONEY FOR HIM, THAT'S A GOOD CHOICE .NOW IF WE TALK PRINCIPALS AND STUFF OF COURSE I PICK THE JAIL BUT WHAT DOES JAILING HIM DOES FOR ME ? IN FACT I AM PAYING FOR HIM TO WATCH TV ,EAT AND SLEEP .

OJ IS A DIFFERENT CASE, HE SHOULD BE IN JAIL FOR EVER .HE KILLED 2 PEOPLE W/PLANNING .

donkey, how much for a daughter killed by a drunk driver????

NO MONEY WOULD BRING MY DUGHTER BACK AND NO AMOUNT OF JAIL TIME EITHER , SO YOU PICK YOUR PICK .

Would you Welcome a guy to a team you root for after killing you daughter???? just asking...

IF THE FAMILY ACCEPTED ,WHY YOU GUYS ARE UPSET .

Donkey, GAME,SET,MATCH.......

IF THE FAMILY HAVE ACCEPTED , WHY YOU GUYS ARE UPSE ?

I didn't follow the story closely, but the guy that was run over was the primary bread winner of the family with like 5 kids.

I do not condone drinking and driving because accidents that result in loss of life are a major risk and reality.. but I think that you have to consider that an average NFL career is not as long as say, an average movie stars career. Losing income for a year, being known as a player with character issues, etc., will result in more loss of revenue than what was paid out..

Am glad that a deal was worked out in such a way that the family is not starving to death.. so while not conventional, Stallworth paid his debt.. and again - I don't want him on The Dolphins, but don't be naive - if he played and produced for the Dolphins, the fans would be ok with it... winning makes memories short.

what the hell - did I just agree with ALoco?

weird.

lmao at Bruce the funny dog lol

Because it's not right, Apparently this family has lost it's way, when a love one loses a life because of someones negligence that person owes a debt to society, just cause your rich doesn't mean that your above the law........ GET A CLUE, and to borrow NJ's patented line, "Thanks for stopping by"

The man made a choice to get behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated. By his actions he killed another person. There should be no money value to this at all. He has to live with his choice. So why does he get off with hardly no jail time but if someone like me or you committed this crime we would be in prison? Is there a double standard?

Lips,The guy got awy with murder, the family could have brought him to cival court and collected what was due them, and Yes "Bruce the funny dog" still has me pee!ng my pants evertime i see it.....every one check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ci7nBNseT2oe

SCALZO, ASK THE VICTIM'S FAMILY WHY HE GOT OFF ??? NO US ...YOU GUYS NEED TO THINK ,WHAT BETTER FOR THE FAMILY ? A GUY SITTING IN A CELLAR OR LIVE BETTER FOR LIFE ?

LISPIN , THANK YOU

Why cut him....trade him for anything...even a 7th rounder.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci7nbnset2o

No one is going to trade for Porter because they know he will get cut.

You think with all that money he was making he couldn't call a taxi?

Dick cheney almost killed his buddy point blank while hunting (and drinking) and did not go to jail. People with money and power can beat any rap.

Tony larussa was asleep at the wheel at a red light drunk as a skunk. No jail time and still coaching at BUSCH stadium. Oh the hypocracy.

It won't hurt to bring Stallworth in to look at him.

Murder? You think Donte had the intent to kill someone? You think the fact that the victim was jay walking had nothing to do with it?

Donte had too much to drink, his ability to drive was dimisnihed, his reflexes probably slowed, plus he was probably tired from partying all night... had he not been drinking, he probably could have had a much greater chance at avoiding the accident and avoided taking life.. but calling it murder makes it sound like he drove into a crowed sidewalk with intent..

Again, don't get me wrong, drinking and driving is horrible.. but you know what, I have a feeling Donte wont do it again.. and will live with this for life... I wish instead of attacking the Rich for being able to pay some cash, I wish people would go after the bastards who have killed multiple times after having been arrested for DUI over 10 times..

Each of those multiple repeat offenders are bloody dangerous.. and rich or poor, seem to be able to walk with repeated slaps on the wrist.. they have a pattern that is a death waiting to happen..

oh, and I hope none of you are using the Dolphins app while driving.. apparently using handheld devices while driving is as bad or worse than driving just over the legal limit.

Porter will be gone. I don't think we need to separate Crowder. Taylor is capable of being a contributor and is not expensive anyway. It seems to me that we want to keep the talent we have, do the draft and free agency THEN separate the chaff from the wheat. If nothing else the harm we suffered last year from injuries should be a reminder that depth is really a great idea. If they can draft a better linebacker than Crowder great but Crowder will be a backup in that case or shift roles.

if there is no salary cap this season football teams will buy a championship like they do in baseball. I hate to see football go the way baseball has. To watch a bunch of billionaire owners fight with a bunch of millionaire players over a pile of money is crazy. Happy to see NO win SB - DB is really a class act - to think he could have been a Fin - oh, well - he wouldn't have had the success he's had if he were here with the Fins. Good for him.

After reading a few thngs I guess it could be argued that Donte did present "Reckless indifference to an unjustifiably high risk to human life " so I guess that might be all that is needed for it to be classified as murder.

Anyhow, I hate that I appear to be condoning drunk driving. Am not - I just think that the only reason we know about this guy's deal is because he is an NFL star.. and that way too many times, nobodies are given a slap on the wrist too.. and then you see reports about man with 16 previous DUI convictions that runs into a school yard and kills 3 children.. or some story like that... those are the ones that make me wonder - HOW DO THEY LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT..

It doesn't matter because Donte Stallworth is no where near a number 1 receiver and should not even be on the Dolphins radar.

Cuban,

What is so funny about Bruce the Funny dogs? I love dogs and think mine should be a comedian, but Bruce is not that funny, definitely not "pee in your pants funny"

Did anybody notice Sean Payton kept making the "blue steel" face from the movie Zoolander last night?

Never took to porter's style of blaming everyone around him. He was a very one dimensional player who was classless on so many occassions. Of course Wilson should be gone along with Ginn, Crowder and Allen.

Shula was right, your a disgrace to the Dolphin uniform.

Well said!!!

ZOOLANDER ONE OF THE WORST MOVIES EVER .

Land of the Lost was the worst movie of 2009

CAN'T YOU WRITE YOUR OWN QOUTE, YOU HAVE TO QOUTE SHULA FOR US .
