Karlos Dansby has an eye on the Dolphins

The linebacker position has been a hub of activity for the Dolphins this offseason.

Joey Porter talked trash about his own team, including coaches and teammates, Channing Crowder went on radio and supported Porter, Bill Parcells declined to commit to Jason Taylor for another year during an online chat, Porter's contract was terminated, Porter's termination was overturned, eventually Porter will get cut again (or traded if the Dolphins get lucky), the Dolphins got a great look at possible new LBs at the Senior Bowl, and now Karlos Dansby speaks out.

Let's handle the Dansby business here.

According to Adam Schein's twitter, Dansby went on Sirius Radio and said he'd like to join the Giants when free agency begins, but added that other teams interest him as well. The Dolphins were among the teams that interest him, along with San Diego and Washington.

Dansby, scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on March 5 regardless of the cap situation, is perhaps the most well-known inside linebacker possibility about to hit free agency. I suppose he could remain with the Cardinals if they franchise him, but that would be the third time they do that and pundits don't believe it will happen this time for financial reasons.

Dansby is known to Dolphins football czar Bill Parcells. The story goes that when Parcells coached Dallas and the Cowboys played Arizona, Parcells told Dansby he liked how he played following a game. (No, that is not tampering.)

Dansby is a very good player. He's fills holes with explosion and he likes to punish ballcarriers. He's 6-4 and 250 pounds so he has the size to do it. And he's all over the field as his 555 tackles in six seasons suggest.

At 28 years old, he's obviously a solid investment because he can sign a four-year deal and still be a relatively young player of 32 by the deal's end.

The problem is Dansby will want major dollars. He made $9.6 million last year as Arizona's franchise player. He'll probably ask for a hefty bonus and about $10-$12 million a year on average.

Do the Dolphins need him? They definitely can use an upgrade at inside linebacker. Channing Crowder and Akin Ayodele combined for only 12 more tackles than Dansby had by himself all of last season.

Adding Dansby could also let the Dolphins concentrate their draft picks on improving the OLBs rather than the ILBs.

Keep an eye on this one because the Dolphins have recently proven they like Arizona players -- having signed Eric Green last year and attempted to sign Calvin Pace the year before.

But this won't be an easy move. Remember, Dansby mentioned the Giants as the team he'd most like to play for and added the Dolphins as part of a second tier of teams. And he is likely to draw interest from other teams as well.

So stay tuned.

Look what we have accomplished...we chased off NJ and I am talking to myself.LOL

Yeah, the sad part is it's probably more insane to try to talk to NJ than it is talking to yourself LMAO

Where was Dansby vs Green Bay? Umm.....in the endzone w/ the winning touchdown.

WOW your are correct. Trying to talk to NJ is crazy. You have passed your test. Remember, wax on wax off, but dont forget to breathe, very important/

You're a loser with no life Ron burgundy or Fake Ron . Thanks for infesting his blog and Ruining It. Armando , can you something about this ???

I don't think you're considering the pay-scale for Inside Linebackers.

A team rarely just 'makes up any number' for the sake of acquiring THE Guy they want ON DEMAND. (..Although -- that's..ironically what you're likely to see the Redskins do this year.)

Its not like the Dolphins are 'cheap' or anything.
Its just that most sensible teams try to stick within some salary framework for each position. Its the reason the reason that the Dolphins have Jake Grove instead of Jason Brown.

Reasonable exceptions are made for players of 'high value' and occasionally an elite player gets Superstar money.

But Karlos Dansby is NOT Lawrence Taylor.

10 to 12 million is far too much when you have more than a position or two to fill. The Dolphins should follow their approach and build primarily through the draft.

Ron notice the "no life" and "infesting this blog" comments. Typical NJ speaking. He also calls out for armando when he is frustrated. He posted as GA finatic...poor man

The other thread was closed so I'm posting here.

TRUST BUT VERIFY! That's what I learned in my days in the Corps. Believe the information is true, verify that the information is true, execute the mission based on true information. Tuna didn't verify so the blame falls on him for this Porter fiasco. Many a General has been relieved of duty because he or she didn't verify the information.

Tuna is no different in this situation. Personally, I believe it was D. Tuna up and released Porter on his own. Like the control freak that he is. So you can throw the capologist under the bus all you want Mando.

They got big old computers that crunch cap numbers locked in a vault somewhere. Even the league tracks these numbers. TWO SOURCES of cap numbers are available to teams. Not to mention all the sports sites that track the cap. No way she got it wrong.

U Rah !!

If she got it wrong then she will be fired. I don't think she will. Anyways, what does that say about Tuna's wisdom in hiring. That he hired a numbskull who couldn't add? No way he admits to ever making ANY mistakes. He will quit before he admits to making errors in judgement.

I believe Miami will get one of two of the Cardinal trades. Either Boldin or Dansby. I believe Either is an upgrade... both would change the entire dynamics on O and D. I am not certain about one thing... I don't like the "He's not a pass rusher thing when they talk about Dansby. WE NEED PASS RUSHERS....
I also think this... If by some lucky star Dez Bryant is sitting at #12... and Miami passes on him... We will be looking back at this draft in 3 years and it will be a Dejavu for Breese all over.

Dez Bryant is going to be a star in the NFL... he will end up ELITE... not because he is popular and all that... he is all that because this kid has a incredible ability to slime away and out of tackles, just watch his videos on-line... he never gets brought down by the first guy...NEVER. Now, guy tackle better in the NFL... but he is still one hell of a receiver...

Channing Crowder and Akin Ayodele combined for only 12 more tackles than Dansby had by himself all of last season. Damn our LBers suck,i say sign Dansby and draft 3 LBers in the first 3 Rd. and get rid of the junk that we have at LBer.

Derek in WPB,

I think Dez has a lot of talent and may end up being a very good pro but, BP and Co are VERY adverse to drafting Diva types and he seems like a prime example of what could be just that.

Just my opinion.

I love BURGUNDY or BURGUNDV....either are hilarious....thanks for stopping by NJ

Why the obsession with Spiller? the Dolphins big weakness was their defense, but if you must draft offense, i say we need a TE like J Gresham from OKL, hopefully in the 2nd rd or late 1st if they trade down, On Dansby i'm totally in favor of getting a proven player instead of hoping a draft pick develops, someone i think MARK said trade Ginn for a 3rd rd pick, are you serious?then he suggested a package of Ginn and G Wilson for B Marshall to Denver?well the only way that happens MARK is if you do your part and send the Broncos GM some of that wacky tobbacky you've been smoking, back to the Dolphins, get a TE, LB's(plural), a safety and a WR, sounds like a lot and it is ,but they have 3 picks in the top74 as it stands, and it is an uncapped year, and you have guys like antrell rolle saying they want to come here, maybe filling all of those needs can't or won't happen but if they fill, most of them, with Nolan hopefully being what we expect, the Phins should be in the playoffs, with a chance to make some noise, as for the WETS don't forget they now get to play a real schedule, add that to teams having had a chance to adjust to Fat Rex sending everyone including the cheerleaders on every 3rd down and a bad QB about to be exposed and they are right back to 5-11, i see the phins at 12-4(with breaks going their way if Henne continues to develop along with hartline and help is added to the receiving crps, a TE a WR)and another sweep of the EFFING JETS,!

If anyones is interested I have some pics of myself right after I worked out the other day. Its impressive. I am so massive I scare myself and criminals everywhere!

Trade Ronnie Brown for Cribbs PLUS picks , he would be great at the Wildcat, draft CJ Spiller to replace Brown and get williams in the 2nd if he's still there. WR is a definate NEED, Brandon Marshall for a 3rd & 4th next year. Oh yeah.... GINN sucks !!!

Bigafly , don't cry because NJ had you on the buffoon post of the day, you're just crying sour grapes. Grow UP big baby . ha ha
