Mike Mayock: Dolphins should pick Kindle

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock is a big fan of Sergio Kindle -- so much so, he rates the Texas outside linebacker prospect ahead of Alabama inside linebacker Rolando McClain and believes the Dolphins should pick him with the No. 12 overall pick of the draft.

"I think if you're trying to look, and I hear a lot of people talking about McClain versus an outside linebacker, to me in that 3-4 the outside linebacker is more important," Mayock said, thus agreeing with what Dolphins In Depth wrote about three weeks ago. "If Sergio Kindle is there at No. 12, I'd pull the trigger. I think he's an explosive edge rusher and I think he would instantly upgrade that team.

"They probably need a nose tackle. I think you can get one a little bit later in the draft and obviously the same thing at wide receiver. I really believe that depending on who's sitting there at 12, that's what they're also looking at: 'Kindle is an explosive playmaker on defense. Is there anybody at 12 that can help us on offense?' I don't think there's any way in the world [Oklahoma State wide receiver] Dez Bryant gets there. So if he's gone, does another wide receiver warrant consideration at 12? And I think that's some of the discussion that's going on right now."

Mayock says he has Mclain rated as the No. 17-best player in the country. He has Kindle at No. 7.

"I think Kindle's a better player," Mayock said. "And I think he's a fit for that team."

Kindle is 6-4 and 255 pounds. He obviously has prototype size, or rather, size Bill Parcells likes for his OLBs. Brandon Graham, whom I believe will be a better player? Not so much.

Graham is 6-1 and 263 and Mayock said his 30 1/2-inch arms were, "really short," and "teams would knock him down for that."

Mayock said he believes Graham will go in the 23ish range of the first round. Salguero says if the New England Patriots get him at No. 22, the Dolphins will rue the day. He will haunt Miami for years, in my opinion.

Kindle wears No. 2 in the video below.

This is what Scouts Inc.'s Todd McShay and Kevin Weidl wrote on ESPN.com's site today about Graham:

"A productive player who led the nation in tackles for loss (26) last season, Graham has developed into an impressive overall player. Although his lack of ideal height (6-foot-1) is an issue for some, Graham is technically sound, and he is explosive and shows good bend as a pass-rusher.

He is also an instinctive run-defender who uses strength and leverage to hold the edge, and Graham uses his hands well to control and disengage from blockers both against the run and the pass. He played with his hand in the dirt in college, but we feel he is best-suited as a pass-rushing 3-4 outside linebacker, similar to fellow former Wolverine LaMarr Woodley."

Mayock agrees that Graham reminds him of Woodley and added Graham has "one of the best motors in the draft," meaning he's relentless.

Let the debate continue ...

Bobby...Do you or do you NOT agree that all the linebackers in this draft are similar in talent..???...and as such we can fill the need later in the draft?...you have changed your view on this before have you not?..Think Spikes,Spoon Graham...etc...although they play different sides they all have some shortcoming and are not locks for success at all..

Now...Brandon Marshall or an elite current WR is a DEFINITE success...already NFL proven at the highest level...its a great investment with low risk / return....

i agree with Nose Tackle...its a glaring need...but not at 12#....

12# must be a game CHANGER...MUST BE....if its not a DEFINITE in the draft or a clear pick...then trade down....

When (Mayock) talks who listens?

I think Maycock is wrong.....all the linbackers are excellent in many ways...but there is no standout....trade down and use picks for STUD WR....and give us a chance in OFFENCE....Henne and Marshall.....SUPERBOWL bound...!!!

My Top 5 (still evolving)

1. Rolando McClain
2. Dan Williams
3. Dez Bryant
4. Earl Thomas
5. Brandon Graham

Carlito....come into the light....you were once a man of Rohan..!!!

bigalfy you are a rube

Try again for your Top Five. Not good man.

Carlito...que es un rube hombre?...algo en Miami ???...mecaguen diez..!!

BigaFly, I said I believe the OLBs in this draft are all similiar, that I agree..I also said that after McClain there is no depth for ILB and I would not be happy with another year of Crowder and Akin..Let me clarify my WR position to you so u understand, I believe we need a #1 WR BUT and here's the BUT, I have been a huge fan of Parcells and have followed his career since the 86 Giants, I am telling you Parcells is not gonna trade his draft picks or a high draft pick for Brandon Marshall...to me it is a waste of time to talk about something that I believe is never going to happen based on Parcells previous history...that is one of the reasons I sorta like the Boldin scenario and believe that could happen...I'm pretty sure based on the past, the statements that Nolan and Sprano have made, the cutting of Joey Porter and not resigning Taylor as of yet, all points to a NT and linebacker in the first two rounds...what you and me think doesn't matter, fun to debate, but doesn't matter, I'm going by what I believe Bill Parcells will do, understand where I'm coming from now???

bigalfy, are you really that STUPID?English is are FIRST LANGUAGE.Love it or Leave.

Bigalfy is cool, boobyd12 is an @zz wipe leave alfy alone. Po black scum trash just STFU. Carlito is a rube.Trans: a panamanian little brown monkey.

Nanu (Paul), doesn't it get old making up all these names??? Gotta chill dude

boobyd12 I am not Paul. who the hell is he? You insult alfy like the child you are. Grow up

b12,I could not have said that any better.Kudos 2-U.

Nanu, ur either Paul or a seriously gay guy who feels he has to defend other men...BigaFly can speak for himself without some H O M O such as u chiming in

po black scum trash @zz kizzer

ooooh boobyd12 you sound sooooo tough. Pencil neck

It doesn't matter who the Dolphins select in the draft, one player isn't going to make that much difference...with the exception of NT.
In a 3-4, the NT is the most important player, he makes the defense...he also makes the MLB look better, by taking away the center two running gaps...making the running backs go lateral.

nanu. Can you see my middle finger?

Carlito, lol and way to be brave and say the unthinkable. Yesterday Mando asked about TO and I initially said heck no hut came around to say it wouldn't be as bad as it seems on thesurface.and I also posted Dez Bryant drives me crazy, as far as the way he attacks the ball, how physical he can be. I'll say it again, Bryant makes me argue with myself. I do know we have much more needs on defense, and you will notice in my top 5 yesterday, and almost assuredly any top 5s until the draft, I have not one offensive player.

Nanu likes defending other guys honor LMAO how gay is that??? Ur definitly the bottom guy huh Nanu (Paul)?? LOL

No I can't Po black @zz becuase it is up your @zz

Hey,b12 did you see me give nanu the finger? Was that cool or what?

I'm going by what I believe Bill Parcells will do, understand where I'm coming from now???

I could care less what you think mate. You are a dill, end of discussion.

And BigaFly, that's why u win awards and u will always be wrong about the Dolphins...maybe u do need Nanu to defend ur honor LMAO

Yes you did see my finger.I heard you love Rainbow Stickers. You know what that means wright?NANU.

I leave now to go to sunsentinel. Time for meatball sub. good night

BTW Booby D only a pvssy is named Bobby...goodnight

bigalfy,Can you see my finger two?Man they are flying tonight.

Night Aloco!! Thks for the laugh, enjoy ur sub

I'm Out,But I'm glad they left.My middle finger was getting a cramp.

Mando do u think weatherspoon will be availible in 2nd round

NJ, u know, Aloco really is insane, he is Paul...Nanu, BigaFly, Po BlackTrash, spravano, Captain Ace sometimes I wonder if there is only 5 or 6 real people on here and we are spending our time talking to this nut job and all his multiple personalities...

Dear Mr. Salguero

I've been thinking what kind of impact Tim Tebow would have on the Miami Dolphins and the Miami area in general.

First thing Timmy does is form a posse(prayer group)by recruiting Joey Porter and Channing Crowder.

He is able to convert them when he take's them to a local area script club and performs the "Make it rain miricle" Timmy holds out a collection plate and all the dancers start throwing dollors bills at him.

Miricles do happen... .unless their hallucinations.

Soiled :)

Hey Bobby..this is gonna sound crazy but I didnt post that last post of mine...I remember postong that a while ago....thanks nanu for your support, but I can easily argue my points because they make sense...we need a game changer....a WR....Marshall is so obvious its killin me...Henne and Marshall offense...SHAMWOW..!!!!....

Linebackers in this draft are much of a muchness...trade down...id even go a nose tackle before the line backers...theres a heap of pretty good linebackers available...whose to say Spikes isnt better than McClain et al....

Guys...do you want this team to threaten?...I mean really threaten for a bowl..???...why discuss BRYANT when Marshall is available for a 2nd plus conditional...what planet are we on...earth to Bobby...lol...( by the way Bobby...you make a good argument on some points)....

carlito...que pasa ?...porque tienes mala leche?..dame un beso..!

ha ha....alfy...Ozzzzzzzz

Where is ROB from OC..?????

Bobbyd, arguing with the same person with 4 different personalites, while completely frustrating, will keep you on your toes. Though it can be confusing.

Hey guys...there is only ONE bigalfy...many will sigh in relief but no...i am not anyone else..mando can confirm this...I live in Melbourne Australia and I am a true Phin..!!!

Wildcat54, I know you asked Mando, but I can't see spoon being around in the 2nd round. Of all the prospects, however, he is my favorite. I think he gets lucky and goes to a team like PHI, IND, or NO where he doesn't get lost forever, like if he went to STL or OAK.

Is it certain the Pack will franchise Pickett given they invested the 10th overall pick in Raji to play the nose?

This is what the dolphins should do.....

Sign karlos dansby as a free agent. Honestly I do not know any reason why (besides money) the dolphins would not sign him? If you sign him it saves you from wasting one of the draft picks on an ILB so you can draft a saftey, an OLB or even a WR 12th over all. If the dolphins do not sign dansby, I would start to question the coaching staff.

po pink trash

The Dolphins should try to trade down the 12th pick... Get an extra second rounder... I'd take Brandon Graham in the first, Daryl Washington and Ryan Matthews in the second... Signing Dansby would also be HUGE, but it will be a bidding war and the Dolphins usually don't spend that kind of $$...

Allright Bigafly, I actually believe u cause Aloco is nutz and I couldn't believe u used the word "dill"...lol, I can't believe I spent an hour talking to the same guy using four different names but I'm starting to figure him out, guys a whack job but I like his style!!!

Boldin is old...injury prone...and can not stretch the field vertically. He would essentially be joining a group of with a similar skill set...all possession guys. Hope this staff won't waste there time entertaining the thought of a Boldin trade. Elite wr's will not be found in the middle or in the later stages of this draft.

There are only 2 players in this draft that are complete wr's. They will go high and after that you are reaching at projects with limited physical ability and skill set. If we are ever going to take the next step we need a passing game...that starts with getting a special wr....not a reach or hidden gem.

Why would you question the coaching staff on a peronel decision ?

bobbyd12 is a good guy .he's not a donkey .

bobby12,Good Evening.

I would like to chime in on a few things. First I would like to agree with you bobby12. This guy ALoco is completely nuts. He has four or five or whatever personalities. I can't keep up with it all. So here it is, I think we really have a dilema here, and bobby you and some other real guys out here, help me out. Why is it that a lot of people on this blog don't think we won't take a dt with the 12th pick. This is one of our pressing needs on this team. There's 8 or 10 dt that could go in the first round, right? As far as McClain, I just don't think he's that great. Help me out men.

Dolphins1972, I was making the same point earlier regarding Dansby. I don't care about the money. They can structure it in a way that is cap friendly beyond this year. That's what the cap people get paid to do. Signing Dansby is like getting 2 players of first rd quality when you figure in not being forced to spend the pick on an ILB because of the poor depth in that position in the draft. We need 5 players on D, not going to get them all in the draft!!! Get it done!!!

I wouldn't have a problem taking Dan Williams at #12 if we are unable to trade down and acquire more picks. With all the top possible FA Nose Tackles most likely off the market - we could do worse than finding an anchor for our defense for the next 5 years.

It would be a risk to wait until the later rounds and possibly see Cam Thomas and Fat Man Cody off the board.

I'm definitely not as sold on Kindle as Mayock is - he had a great National Championship game; but there was a lot of other good talent on that Texas D (Earl Thomas, Rod Muckelroy to name 2 guys) that helped him succeed. That's why I feel Graham is a better option than him despite his size. He was the only player on that Michigan D (besides CB Donovan Warren) who was worth mentioning and he was dominant in a conference known for producing great Offensive Lineman.

I still believe that if the WR position is not addressed in Free Agency or via trade (where art thou Anquan Boldin?) and Dez Bryant is available he could be the pick; if not - it comes down to Dan Williams, Earl Thomas, or the best available Linebacker (McClain, Graham, Kindle, Etc) provided we don't trade down.

Just because, I see the draft options the way you do. With all the teams frachising quality NTs, it's easy to see why drafting the best NT 12th overall well worth the pick.

Lets not spend 30 million on Dansby.Thats way over the top.

Capt Ace, agree with you. 30 mil over is alot for Dansby. It probably won't happen.

Without a good Nose Tackle it really won't matter how good McClain is or any middle linebacker - even our own - is.

It is an uncapped year and trust me, they can and should, make room for dansby the dolphins will also cut down a lot because they will be getting rid of porter and his salary

I'm with Dolphins 1972, basic supply demand says that the worthwhile free agents will be a tad more expensive than normal because there are very few available this year. If they paid Crowder and Ayodele a combined $10 mill approx last year, and they got about the same # of tackles combined as Dansby did alone, then he's worth it - even with the free agent premium they'll pay. And besides, there isn't a reasonable alternative in free agency, and after the first round, not a very good one in the draft.

And Crowder's salary next year is only about $2.1 million so they'll be spending about the same amount of money as they did this year for a much younger, aggressive, and explosive pair.

Did I mention that it would open up the 1st pick to address another need?
Spend the money.

Mark I am with you all the way.

Just a thought guys....if Green Bay tags Pickett should the Dolphins be looking to trade for him? I'm not saying give up a first round pick or anything like that but maybe there's a deal that could be made similar to what we did with Welker. Just a thought.

I don't see Pickett as the long term answer in GB at the NT position....I think that is why they drafted Raji. Could we get this guy for a second or a conditional third? I'd rather have a guy who is a little bit established than some rookie right out of college. Thoughts?....

Mark in Toronto,

I agree with your thinking and I think the trifecta will go hard after Dansby. Only problem is other time will have the same train of thought and there are no guarantees that he will pick Miami. Just because we think this is the best place to play and we want him here doesn't mean he'll chose to play in Miami. But i do agree with your thinking.

tha should have read 'teams' not 'time'
