Indianapolis Combine update: Golden Tate interviewing with Dolphins Friday evening

More in the latest-breaking updates from the Indianapolis Combine:

Aspiring scout Chris Cordero reports Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate will be interviewing with the Dolphins Friday night. He also has other nuggets.

From Cordero:

Tate mentioned that he will be speaking with the Dolphins tonight. Looks small but with a solid build -- reminds of Steve Smith and if he runs well will go in 1st round. Tate expects to run sub-4.5. If he were to fall to 2nd round would be a steal there.

He doesn't fit the mold of the big physical receiver the Dolphins supposedly want but is a playmaker as
evidenced by outstanding stats in a pro-style offense.

Another receiver, underclassmen wideout Dezmon Briscoe from Kansas measured 6-2 and change and
weighed in at 207. He expects to run in the 4.5 range. He says he has spoken to "many" of the WR-needy teams but wouldn't name them. He could be a nice 3rd-round pick for the Dolphins - but if he runs well he could go in the 2nd round.

Briscoe says he is friends and looks up to Dez Bryant and tries to take as much from him as possible since he is a great player.

Arrelious "Rejus" Benn of Illinois is meeting with Ravens. He is possibily their No. 1 pick. He says he's a good blocker.  If the Ravens take him, it knocks one possible Dolphins 2nd-rounder off the board. If he runs well, though, he's a 1st round lock.

Benn said he talks a lot to former teammate Vontae Davis.

Update 2:30:

Dez Bryant, who has 9 3/4 inch hands, talked the media and apologized for misleading the NCAA about going to Deion Sanders house during offseason training. The visit itself was not a violation, but the lie was and he was suspended for the entire season.

"I'm back on track and ready to go," he said.

Bryant said he didn't think the suspension would affect his draft status but added, "That's not my call. My biggest regret during that situation? My biggest regret is just not telling the truth."

Obviously, Bryant has been "coached" to say these things. But at least he followed the game plan.

Update 4:30:

Bryant has a hamstring injury and will not work out at the Combine.

Check back often for the latest news and rumors relating to the Dolphins.

Dez Bryant will NOT be there at #12 unless he blows a wheel at the combine. If he shows what I think he will he will not get passed Denver at #11. I think Dez is a good player and will be a top 10 pick so if you want the Phins to pick him they will have to move up and I do not see that happening.

Come on (SEAN) don't be mean.I don't mean to offend anyone (LIKE IQ).Its just that he was no where to be found thats all.Sorry if i upset you.

Brisco doesn't really impress me much. The kid that caught my eye is this georgia tech receiver Demarius Thomas. This is the next Andre Johnson. He has good speed and a devastating stiff arm that will make any undersized corner look flat out stupid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMK59U6nCuw

Mosi,

Don't let that fried brain head (SEAN) get to you.Theres alot of so called no it all ASS HOLES here and (SEAN) is Number 1.Ignore him man.

Craig,

Aloha, come on friend lets not talk like that.I really want get to know these people and you.And look I really want to get the news and opinions of others.

Sean, sorry was at work. 12 may be a few picks too high for E Thomas, but I don't care. It depends on who he goes to, and for us, I think he could make our secondary one of the best in foot all, in one fell swoop. Davis and Smith are only going to get better, and Thomas and Bell are perfect for each other. Factor in Thomas' ability to play man against almost anyone, and W Allen returning, we will have 4 legit guys to cover opposing WRs. If Thomas were to go somewhere else, he wouldn't be so effective.

If Denver was to take Dez Bryant in the 1st round, Is it crazy to think that Brandon Marshall would be traded? Is Ronnie Brown, and our 2nd round pick for BM, to much, or just a pipe dream?

I just like to let everybody know that i'm still a crybaby who likes to complain but it the mean time i have no life and i'm the biggest loser around. Guys for a good time call 1-800 - I like hairy azzzzzz.

FWIW, "steals" in the draft are, to me, those gems you get in rounds 3-6 who exhibit the skills of 1st and 2nd rounders, but somehow slipped through the cracks.
Any guy drafted in the top 25 BETTER BE A STUD, at those prices.
I don't consider a guy slipping from #5 to #12 being a "steal.: Yeah, you save a few million, but a 12# SHOULD BE worth his weight in the dough you spent for a guy who has YET TO PLAY a single down in thew NFL.

BTW, Mr. Cordero is a work in PROGress. Hopefully he will proGRESS.

@Waterboy - Ted Ginn is the only one who can stretch the field?? I'm fairly certain Brian Hartline's 16.3 yards/reception. . . as a rookie (compared to ginn's 11.9 ypr) would have to disagree with you. Seriously, People, it takes me 30 seconds to look stats and draft history up on ESPN.com. . . . why can't you all do the same thing before you post your asinine comments here?????

My woman caught me googlin and now she says she wants to talk. It's all over now.

Hey Mando... Hope you`re going to watch the Hockey Game on Sunday.
Canada USA for all the marbles. You enjoyed the last one and this one will be great too.
All Dolphans it`s noon Pacific, 1 o`clock in the Canadian Cowtown and 3pm in Miami. And no I wont be hosting a live blog of the game... I just can`t type fast enough.
YEE HAHHHH

Do the Dolphins really want to invest another draft pick on a WR? Why would we be talking to Tate? He is under 6", we should be talking to WR's 6'2 and above. Still I think the Phins can work out some kind of trade to get a proven WR. If the Broncos are really going to deal Marshall for a 2nd rounder then it should be a no brainer for the Trifecta. Anyone think if the Phins could get a 1st for Ronnie Brown via the Chargers should we make the trade? If we did that the best bet would be to take CJ Spiller with the 12th then maybe Sergio Kindle or Brandon Spikes with the 28th pick.

I Think the Chargers would like to swap picks, and take Spiller, then offer additional picks.

NJ PHIN,

I caught up on Carlton Mitchell. Nice size at 6'4" 212lbs. Looks to have some pretty good straightline speed. Suprised that at that level he didn't have more production. 9 TD's in 3 years. Also never caught more than 40 passes in a season but decent avg's 14.5 2006,2007 and 17.7 in 2009.

My call would be a guy to take a flyer on in a the later rounds 6-7. He would be a guy to invite to camp and see what happens. He may even be a free agent.

Cheers,

Miami should go after Dansby hard...it will help us get a key offensive play maker in the 1st round. If we don't get Dansby then we have to go defense in the 1st round.Getting Dansby changes a lot for our Dolphins.

Maybe Dez is a little out of shape and not ready compete at the combine...I don't know if he's good to our Dolphins.

Tate may be a little short but his vertical is something special.Tate will go up and get the ball over taller defenders...he's not scared to catch the ball in the middle of the field.Tate is a true play maker..
he plays with do much heart an effort. His attitude and toughness is exactly what the Tuna is looking for...even though he's a little smaller then the usual WRs Bill drafts.A lot of people said Zack Thomas was too small to play LB in the NFL...We all know how Zack turned out ha I think if Miami can trade down in the 1st round and draft Tate...or maybe take a chance and see if Tate falls to us in round 2.

I think keeping Gabril Wilson would be a huge mistake...I hope we let him go.

I'm excited for our Dolphins...I hope we make some big moves.

In FA we must sign DANSBY,ILB and A.ROLLE,S ... that fills two major holes. We should also sign PENNINGTON as backup QB ....

Then .... here is the draft
'
1. DAN WILLIAMS,NT .... Fergeson is done
2. HUGHES or KINDLE, OLB ... major need
3. trade for MARSHALL, WR ... toss in Turner and one of our 7th round picks .... maybe even Pat White (assuming that we re sign Pennington)
4. ASAMOAH or JERRY, OG .... we are weak at OG

6. BARNES, WR from Bowling Green
6. UTATOSKI, OT Texas
6. J.GRAHAM, TE, the U
7. KAFKA, QB Northwestern

Thats My take to about trading down.Ithink this is going to be a good year for the dolphins.

I don't want the dolphins to waste draft picks on Boldin, a soon to be broken down WR. How many games has Boldin missed in the past 2-3 yrs; exactly, can't stay healthy. And if he gets big $$$ how many games will he miss because "His career is only so long?". Look at the Championship Team, how many have big play wr's? Heck, the Colts, who I can't stand, get to the SB with a Garcon and a freakin "Goofy guy" Collie. Name NE's wr's when they won the SB; Deon Branch? Dolphins have to get a DT or LB in the draft. Don't get McClain, he's from Alabama and I can't stand the SOB, weasel Saban.

Guys,
How many players, from Tennesse, have worked out well for the Dolphins? Remember Jason Allen, and that other Safety that they wanted to have play at LB that broken his foot.....Nope, no Berry and no "roided up" dude from USC.

How does this guy have a hamstring injury at this point? Dangerous pick.

Hammy injuries r from being out of shape. He didn't play the last 3/4 of the season, so not too worried about that. Bryant is like crabtree last yr but prob like 5 x better right outta NCAA. Any1 getting him gets a sure damn thing.

I hope Eric Berry falls to the Fins...OMG would I dance the dance of jubilation. Could you imagine our secondary with that guy in there...Awesome!

As an avid SEC and Gator fan, I watched a lot of Tenn games..Berry is a freaking stud and often he seemed to be playing like a man amongst boys. he seemed to be all over the field and hits like a freaking linebacker with corner speed.

For those who say not to draft DEZ are STUUUPID as hell.
DEZ BRYANT numbers are not what they are for nothing. Anybody who is one of the best has an ego. And those are the ones who works harder than anyone else. This young man will be the next big WR.
WHY do you call him a DIVA because he wants to be the BEST?
Some of you don't have a competive bone in your body. I don't care what we play from Football Basketball chess or Thumb Wrestle I want to win.
But you knock peoeple that have confidence in themselves.
He worked out with the best CB of ALL TIME he knows the tricks of the best. So I would think he's ready for PRIME TIME

After thinking it over and saying many names and reading what many of you said I think the perfect pic.

I loved him untile I relized he can't break one. TRADE RONNIE for a mid 1st or as high as you can get and use the first rounds picks on Spiller and Bryant.
TUNA HELPER can you say chunk yards. GRAHAM will fall Like Brady Quinn. He had a great senior bowl but and maybe even a good year but he's still a tweener so I can see us getting him with that 2nd pick or Spikes.

Sign Dansby and give WILSON a chance to make up for a bad year.

Justin,

There are 2 situations in which Dez Bryant does this hamstring crap. He may well have injured it. What would be the most likely reasoning? He wasn't in shape. Period. And that bothers me. What has he been doing? Apparently he doesn't take his craft as seriously as he needs to. You speak of confidence, I give you that. That same confidence is the problem with any WR who tore it up in college. Well, as I said the other day, you won't be lining up against guys who will be working at UPS. You will be lining up against the best in the world, and it will require work. So if a guy can't even stay in shape, let alone prepare for the biggest moment of his life, I doubt he puts the time in once he gets the check. Pay The Man. Dumb.

Second, he isn't anywhere near as fast as advertised, and may not run at all before the draft. While Crabtree was legitimately hurt, he still didn't fall, AND his agent got him a contract worth more than his pick should have paid. So is this all a big ploy by Eugene Parker?

Either of the 2 options don't speak to what I want in a football player. Just out of curiosity, name me the last team with a Diva WR to win a Super Bowl?

Dez. NO WAY

NO Dez Bryant

Dez Bryant, the guy got a raw deal, he didn't commit an NCAA Violation but lied about it, fine, all done...but to not participate in the combine because he hurt his " hammy" bullshyt

And anybody that says " don't take a guy from Tenn because of some past picks" is a major idiot..that's the stupidest reason ever not to take a player

bobby, that rule was put in place to do just that . please go read Batman.

BOOTANG

What do you consider a DIVA?

And if your answer is what I think it is then the SAINTS the GIANTS the STEELERS. They are all DIVAISH

shutter island is a steaming pile

Just because you are out spoken does that make you a DIVA?

Plus for all we know DEZ could have gotting hurt training. Many players got hurt traing.

But this kid trained 1-2 or 3 years with DIONN
he's way ahead of the game. Plus think of the practices he and VONTAE will have.

mosi/ hawaii = gopats

Ok NJ workouts are underway... we are waiting for your news and analysis.. ;)

Justin,

I have posted several times that I was really starting to put Bryant into the discussion at 12, and that is saying something considering how much I think defense is the major priority.

BUT, I presented 2 scenarios for his 'hamstring' and either one I just don't like. I won't force my opinion on you, you feel a certain way and I understand that.

Marques Colston is not a diva, nor is Santonio Holmes. They are not lacking in confidence, but they don't undermine there team. Even Plax isn't really a diva.

Art Monk was no diva, Jerry Rice not a diva

So what do you guys consider a DIVA?

T.O is he a DIVA and why?

CHAD 85 is he a DIVA?

JERRY RICE was considered the biggest shi+ talker while he played. Because he didn't do and outrages celebrations means he wasn't a DIVA.

The reasonthat BILL P. doesn't like "DIVAS" is because he's one and two DIVAS can't get along.

I've always been about accepting people for who they are.

Besides we need some excitement around here.

DEZ would by far be my first pick
then BERRY even though I'm not ready to give up on WILSON.
If they are gone SERGIO KINDLE would be next because We are going to get DANSBY.

I don't want a receiver in the first but i like NJ's mention (Carlton Mitchell) or Demaryius Thomas out of GT. He is injured and it could let him fall to second.

Georgia Tech was a running team and when they did throw everyone knew Thomas was getting the ball but no one could stop him.

Demaryius Thomas 25 yards per catch average last year is impressive, but that broken foot is really gonna push him back

yeah carlito; before he broke his foot it was though he was going to be a 1st rounder maybe cinci or baltimore; if he slides to the 2nd he would be a steal; he runs in the 4.3s

I'll be an optimist here, lets say Dansby is signed.Moving on, assuming Dansby is signed, unless you have Berry there at 12, you must consider trading down(easier said than done i know),now after a trade down, that now has us in the 18-24 range in the 1st, best available player may be Tate, i hate Notre Shame and tuned in to watch the end of their games all year, Tate NEVER DROPS a ball NEVER if he runs well at the combine, then if available in the 18-24 range i would not have a problem with him,i am of the opinion that the quickest way to make C Henne great is to give him a good to great TE,maybe J Gresham OKL, or any TE that fits the good to great mold,on defense a pass rusher would be the biggest need unless Ferguson is not back, can anyone tel me ho would possibly be available and fill the need for a pass rusher and or DT in rds 2,3,4 etc? i am not including safety with NT an pass rusher because i think C Clemons can be that guy, that is not to say i would be against addressing the safety position. takng a cue frm ROB in OC:Bottoms up!(cheers ROB that was not intended as a shot, i think you are one of the best posters here from what i have been reading, not just today i must add)

Maryland OT Bruce Campbell ran a 4.7 40 at 315 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!

Put ur money up right now!!! I say first two picks are LB and Nose Tackle, and maybe not in that order but those will be the picks

i'd rather have mitchell or thomas; both are big and fast whereas golden tate is a little small for what parcell and them are looking for; i think the interview is them doing due dilligence.

bobbyd you may be right, i wouldn't be surprised to see lb and nt 1 and 2; plus they are going to look to trade some of our roster maybe a receiver if we draft 1 of them since you aren't going to keep that many active and practice squad and an extra pick would be good.

CFG,

Thanks.I would say (NO one from TN)?Come on EB would be great in are back field. But he will be gone I'm sure. ALOHA EVERYONE.

This Carlito, I was going to see Shutter Island tonite!! Was it really THAT shyty???

B12,

I agree with what you say about first 2-picks.LB-NT.No bet from me.

I got a real feeling DANSBY will be a DOLPHIN.And WAKE will be great.

who cares who's DIVA OR NOT ,WE STILL IN THE CELLAR .WE STINK .

Mosi, we gonna find out pretty quick after March 5th I think, it will all come down to the Giants I believe, Dansby really wants to play for NY so if they want him it going to be hard to sign him

WHY I FEEL I READ ALL THESE POSTS BEFORE EVERY EVERY DRAFT .EVERY ONE GET EXCITED THEN BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM , THE CELLAR .

What's up with this app today, taking 15 mins to reload comments, anyone else having trouble??? I'll see ur comment around 12:30

LMFAO @ ROB IN OC. Carton mitchell in rounds 6-7 ???? MAYBE AN invitee to camp ???? Are you kidding me ???. Mitchell won't get past round 3 . He caught 40 balls for over 700 yds and 4 td'd on one of the worst passing teams in college football. Of the 40 balls he caught 8 were for 50 yds or more. 6-4 215 and runs a 4.45. This is why i question your film and so called scouting reports . Cheers !

Right you are Kyfinfan. Carlton Mitchell is a player miami will keep an eye on in round 3 . He's a good one. Some have him going round 2 . Rob in OC thinks he go in rounds 6-7 or a invitee as a free agent. LMFAO !!! MY GOD !!!

B12,

Yea,you might be right about DANSBY and the giants. But if thats the case do we have a chance to get OSI?

Carlito , I was very busy and it was only the ol and K. I want to concentrate on the wr . te and defense during the combine. OT Campbell and OT trent williams from oklahoma ran under 4.9 and solidified top 20 status.

For all the aaron herenandez fans and wishing him on miami can forget it. He measured a little over 6-2 . Miami likes their te's at 6-4.
