Recently hired inside linebacker coach Bill Sheridan was at the Arizona State Pro Day Friday (wow, that's a lot of consecutive capitalized words) and a source tells me he was there primarily to lay eyes on ILB Travis Goethel.
Goethel is 6-2 1/2 and 238-to-240 pounds. Although originally believed to be a late-round type of player, Dolphins In Depth aspiring scout Chris Cordero tells me he has him graded in the fifth round.
The ASU Pro Day took place outdoors on grass, and Goethel ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 and 4.62 seconds unofficially. He had a 9-2 on the broad jump, a 4.22-second short shuttle, a 6.71-second three-cone drill. He also did positional drills but there is no report on how he looked.
This is what Cordero thinks of Goethel:
"He is a solid tackler who can deliver some big hits. He has very good instincts and good read and react ability. Does a nice job in pass coverage as well. Has also been very durable and is a team leader. The only thing keeping him from being a high draft pick is average athleticisim and his lack of elite size -- although he did some work to dispel some of those athletic doubts at the Pro Day. I give him a high 5th round grade."
Yesterday was also Pro Day at The U.
If you don't know what The U is, well, I got nothin' for you.
Tight end Jimmy Graham is Miami's most impressive draftable player. He stood on his 4.53 Combine time in the 40-yard dash. He did catch the ball for scouts. The Dolphins were represented at the workout but apparently not by a coach or GM Jeff Ireland.
How my boys have fallen. Used to be every single team would send a head coach or a general manager or both to watch the six or so first or second rounders Miami would put on display at its Pro Day.
:(
By the way, if you're interested to find out why O.J. Atogwe hasn't gotten much play in restricted free agency, check this out. It could explain some things.

I hope Bakersfield PD tuned him up a bit

From PFT....."Linebacker Joey Porter, one of the newest additions to the Arizona Cardinals, has become the latest addition to the Bakersfield jail.
Per TMZ, Porter has been popped for assaulting a police officer.
According to the report, a friend of Porter's was pulled over outside a Taco Bell. Joey pulled up, and a CHP officer smelled alcohol coming from Porter's car.
So when the officer asked for Porter's license, he refused to turn it over, rolling up the window to his vehicle. The officer then tried to reach in and unlock the door, and Porter slapped the officer's hand.
The officer grabbed Porter's arm, who got out of the car in a confrontational manner.
So the officer drew his pistol and ordered Porter onto the ground. Porter, apparently not fearing bullets after being shot in the ass in Denver, refused to comply. Eventually, he put his hands behind his head.
Porter was charged with three misdemeanors -- DUI, resisting arrest, and assault on a peace officer.
He's lucky he wasn't shot, again.
Porter recently signed with the Cardinals, only a few weeks after being cut by the Dolphins."

Posted by: donkey | March 27, 2010 at 07:09 PM
This doesn't look good for the NFL, I think Roger Goodell is gonna be backed into a corner and have to hand out some hefty suspensions, which could could definitley have an effect on the Dolphins to start the season

I AM SURE THE OFFICER WAS TOLD HE PLAYS FOR THE CARDNIALS ,THAT WHY HE DIDN'T USE FORCE PLUS HE SAW HIS SIZE SO THE OFFICER DID GREAT JOB AS MOST DO .
Posted by: ALoco | March 27, 2010 at 07:25 PM
The Officer must have felt sufficiently threatned to pull his/her weapon...u never want to have to shoot someone unless it's down to him or me...this was serious situation
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 27, 2010 at 07:25 PM
Aloco,
The farther away from Miami he gets, the more I like him.
Don't worry Joey, I'm sure you'll get to be the new "Rock Boss" in the County Lock Up!
Posted by: odinseye | March 27, 2010 at 07:26 PM
MANY OFFICER FACE A HARD CHOICES EVERY DAY FACIN THE DUMBEST AMONG US ( PORTER ) AND THIS OFFICER IS LUCKY TO KEEP HIS COOL BEFORE SOME TRAGIC HAPPENES AND THEN THEY PLAM HIM .
Posted by: ALoco | March 27, 2010 at 07:28 PM
BobbyD12
felt sufficiently threatned?
You think?
I'm a decent sized guy in excellent shape, but If I had to go Toe to toe with an NFL linebacker, I'm sure I'd want my P380.
Posted by: odinseye | March 27, 2010 at 07:31 PM
NOW BACK TO FOOTBALL / THIS DRAFT IS BECOMING AN EVENT EVERY WAITING FOR .BRYANT,MORGAN OR THOMAS ?
Posted by: ALoco | March 27, 2010 at 07:31 PM
Parcells...sparano and Ireland are laughing uncontrolably. Right now and for good reason.. This guy proved his usuall stupid self when he doesn't get what he wants.. Wisenhunt is an idiot for bringing this guy in.. He will destroy the locker morale at arizona!

DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT O.J DID TO THESE TWO SOULS HE KILLED .
Posted by: ALoco | March 27, 2010 at 07:32 PM
Well, I don't like Joey but I would hate to have seen him seriously injured or killed because he had alcohol courage...there is football then there is life, guy has a wife and kid...What this world needs is more "happy" drunks, not confrontational drunks
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 27, 2010 at 07:37 PM
Back to football, this draft can't come quick enough for me, I'm glad this NCAA Tournament is so great...helps the time go by!!!
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 27, 2010 at 07:40 PM
Wow!
If you think about it, this IS the begining of the end for Porter.
For years he's been slamming the NFL and Goodell's but buddy Belicheat in particular.
He's slammed coaches, players, his own team. It goes on and on.
Joey, can you spell SASPINSHUN?
you're supposed to be trying to EXTEND your career, not EXTINGUISH it.
Posted by: odinseye | March 27, 2010 at 07:40 PM
ALoco,
We have been talking so much about what the Dolphins are going to do with pick #12 but we have nine other picks. So, let's try something different and talk about what the Dolphins should do with their other picks.
Complete listing of draft picks:

4 12 (110)
5 NO PICKS

6 5 (174) (from Washington)
6 10 (179)
7 5 (212) (from Kansas City)

7 45 (252) (compensatory pick)

The story on Joey Porter getting arrested at Taco Bell is hilarious.... This is a good example of how the truth is sometimes far more interesting (and funny) than fiction!
You couldn't make that shyt up if you tried!
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
I nominate Hoey Porter for the plungie... Or maybe I should nominate that back door fan pricemaster for saying sparano has explaining to do about the release of Porter! Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!
I owe NJ $5 for the use of "bwhaha" but it was worth it!!!!!!

BobbyD12,
I understand, wife kids, and your absolutely right.
Just the same, Joey's been shot before, he can handle it.
Besides, I would aim for the knees not the torso........

I heard the cop said he could go home free if he let Cam Wake drive the car for him, but Porter refused saying that Cameron Wake can't drive as good as him, even when he's shyt faced
Posted by: carlito from golfito | March 27, 2010 at 07:59 PM
Odinseye, maybe you would but as Officers we are not in that position to shoot someone in the knees...if we feel our lives are sufficiently threatened enough by an individual to pull out our weapon and use deadly force and in fact fire that weapon, it's going to be a shot into the upper torso...I'm not gonna take a chance of shooting at a knee, missing and having that bullet hit an innocent bystander...
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 27, 2010 at 08:01 PM
Good one Carlito!

Lighten up bro.
I'm just trashing the "piece of work" like he trahed my beloved Dolphins.
It may be in bad taste, but it's ALL in GOOD FUN!
Posted by: odinseye | March 27, 2010 at 08:04 PM
Bobbyd12,
Thank you, its much easier when Hoey Porter provides us with such great material
Posted by: carlito from golfito | March 27, 2010 at 08:08 PM
Was his friend he was with Maurice Clarret? Sheesh, who does he think he is acting like that? He deserves a humble pie and I hope Goodell give it to him... this is much more serious that Ronnie Brown's offense and Hoey Porter doesn't have the track record and class of Brown...
Posted by: carlito from golfito | March 27, 2010 at 08:10 PM
Odinseye, I am light bro, guys an idiot, I hope he throws up on himself while in the cell :) Wonder if Crowder has anything to say about his BRO now???
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 27, 2010 at 08:11 PM
This was all Sparano's fault for benching him that one game last year and not talking to him...
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Miami not sending a coaching staff member over to the "U" for their workout is not a clear sign they have no interest... Miami did not send anyone who drew much attention to Illinois last season even though they took Vontea Davis first. Location allows Miami to be 100% aware of who is available on The "U". They don't need to go there to confirm what they already know. That being said, I still have a feeling Miami will take a wild card guy in the #12 spot. This draft is so deep at the positions that Miami must address, I think it gives the the latitude to do so. I will not be one bit upset or surprised if they grabbed a player like Spiller, Bryant, E. Thomas (who would fill a need), or even an OG. It was my opinion very early on, before the Dansby Deal, That bringing in Karlos would open the entire front end of the draft from being 100% tied to McClain. Allowing Miami to do whatever they want to do. The deep talent in this draft will allow it.

Posted by: ALoco | March 27, 2010 at 08:23 PM
Aloco,
Jason Allen is now the stupidest player on the team... its a different kind of handicap though... he is just slow... not a complete idiot... this team is raising its standards and iq everday ;)
Posted by: carlito from golfito | March 27, 2010 at 08:26 PM
CARLITO IS SHOWING SIGN OF GREAT PROMISE IN COMEDY .HIS TAKE ALWAYS FREASH AND DIFFERENT .
Posted by: ALoco | March 27, 2010 at 08:26 PM
JASON ALLEN IS THE STUPIEST PLAYER ON THE TEAM , SO BE IT ...DONE
Posted by: ALoco | March 27, 2010 at 08:28 PM
Bill, I'm gonna play Devils Advocate with u on ur post..Parcells has taken a beating on that Pat White pick..I feel because of that he goes back to picking the way he has in the past...He will not "deviate" and take a chance of making another pick that might not work out...thoughts???
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 27, 2010 at 08:29 PM
No, second stupidist is Crowder who didn't know enough not to get on the radio and help Joey bury his team...Crowder will get much "smarter" after some extra reps in camp though
