The NFL has just announced it has awarded 32 compensatory draft choices to 19 clubs and the Dolphins get one of those picks.
Don't get all fired excited.
In losing Andre' Goodman and Renaldo Hill while adding Jake Grove and Joe Berger in free agency, the Dolphins get a seventh-round pick for the loss. Miami's pick is the 45 pick of the seventh round and 252 overall.
Even though the Dolphins did not suffer a net loss of compensatory free agents, the free agents lost were deemed to rank higher than the ones signed.
The Dolphins now have 10 overall selections in the coming April draft.
The New England Patriots were the biggest gainers, getting four compensatory picks for their losses of a year ago. The Pats got a sixth round pick (205 overall) and three seventh-rounders (247, 248 and 250 overall).
Last offseason the Patriots lost Heath Evans, Jabar Gaffney, Larry Izzo, LaMont Jordan and Lonie Paxton to free agency. They added Brandon McGowan.
Neither the Jets nor the Bills were awarded a compensatory pick.

That's wonderful but New England added 4 more draft choices. They always seem to clean up on the compensatory draft choices.

a free pick is always nice in a deep draft.
The Pats get 4 picks for aging players they could have dumped anyway...that is great managing. The Trifecta should take example.

THOSE WHO HAVE TO LOOK UP THINGS BECAUSE THEY HAVE A NEED TO ALWAYS BE RIGHT.
NEVER PLAYED A DOWN OF TOUCH FOOTBALL BUT CLAIMS THEY LOVE FOOTBALL.
THOSE WHO SAY THEY WANT THIS PLAYER OR THAT ONE BUT HAVE KNOW REASON BEHIND IT. SO THEY GOOGLE.
Posted by: JUSTIN CREDIBLE | March 22, 2010 at 06:59 PM
Not too happy with Ross pushing for more late games. It has always been a early season benefit watching all of our Division Rivals playing in their dark uniforms and looking like they are about to friggin Die while sucking O2 and passing out in front of the "Cool-Zones"... As far as the pick goes... J.Ferguson was a seventh round pick! Tom Brady was a Sixth... You cannot EVER underestimate what a pick can bring to your team if you get a approving Nod from the Football Gods!!.

screw it, lets just deal for marshall now and complete the troubled saga of problemed athletes in miami. Player's paychecks arent big enough to know the difference between stupid and ignorant.

I'm not worried about what the pats get. I only care about what Miami gets.

Did any one else here the Ronnie Brown for Calvin Johnson JR. trade?? Not sure if i believe it, what do you guys think?
Posted by: Jason | March 22, 2010 at 07:21 PM
the picture of players behaving badly - What the hell happened to Arroyo? He looks like he got jumper or something. He looks bad.
Posted by: Andy NJ | March 22, 2010 at 07:22 PM
Jason, that trade is courtesy of truths and rumors and espn insider rumor garbage. No way the Lions trade their best offensive weapon for Brown. Don't get me wrong I like Brown but think he is best used in the role in which Miami uses him. He needs to split carries because whenever he is over worked he seems to get hurt. Johnson is a better player and threat at his position then Brown is.
Posted by: Andy NJ | March 22, 2010 at 07:23 PM
alright thanks NJ. Did anyone here anything on Jason Taylor?
Posted by: Jason | March 22, 2010 at 07:25 PM
Andy NJ, Ricky has hired Drew Rosenhaus and wants to continue beyond next year....With him saying that do we 1. Negotiate a new contract 2. let him play out this year and let him go FA 3. Try to trade him sometime this year???
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 22, 2010 at 07:28 PM
Arroyo's picture should have included the tag "resisting arrest" I believe that is why he don't look too good...
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 22, 2010 at 07:31 PM
Ricky is getting to that age where he could start showing decline at any time. In fact, he is past that age, but because of his time away from football, his football age is a little lower than other backs..
That being said, his healthy living and minimal carries will help him play a little longer - but how long? If Ronnie goes down again next year and Ricky gets carries, will he have anything left? If their is a lock-out, and the 2011 season is cancelled, do you want him back in 2012?
So many what ifs .. hard to make a choice today, so my choice would be to ride it out.. can't see him having a season that makes his value go through the roof so locking him in now only gives us more down side with minimal upside..
Posted by: LipsinToronto | March 22, 2010 at 07:38 PM
You best be careful JUST INCREDIBLE or else uncle sam's brother will take care of you.
Posted by: Ben Franklin | March 22, 2010 at 07:38 PM
The idea of trading Ricky is intriguing except for the fact we probably wouldn’t get good value for him since next week he’ll probably decide he wants to retire after week 11 this season.
So much has been made of Favre and his retarded retiring saga, Ricky has been nearly as annoying.
Anybody seen Noises Off? (probably too obscure)
Ricky will retire in 3 minutes.
Ricky will retire in 1 minute.
Ricky will retire in 2 minutes.
Ricky will retire in 3 minutes.

JUSTIN - I walked on at Ga. Tech - does that count? I don't see how it makes me any better than most guys here. Just because you've played doesn't mean you opinion is better. It's obvious that some guys here know more than I do: NJ, NYScott, Bobby, Rob to name a few. I don't know if they played or not but I respect their opinions even if I disagree.
BTW - I sucked gorilla nuts and didn't make it on to the field. Slow, mostly. Good tackler though - just couldn't catch a lot of those guys. Mind you, it's a pretty darn good football program, so that's something, I guess.

meant to say disagree sometimes. Made it sound like I disagree all the time.
Posted by: Jimmy Jam | March 22, 2010 at 07:43 PM
I saw an update on Ronnie...I'm just sayin let's not jump to conclusions. There is no record or proof to this point of his alleged arrest.
It very well maybe true, but no one can confirm it.

Justin Smiley and our #12 pick to the Raiders for their #8 pick. Eric Berry is in the house. Raiders projected to take OL help anyway in many mock drafts, this solves that need.
Posted by: Fort Worth fishfan | March 22, 2010 at 07:51 PM
We have 10 picks and alot of trade bait should address all needs in the draft. NT,FS,WR,OLB,And alot of depth.

BobbyD12 Ricky may have had his last big season maybe not. He is up there in age and carrries. Rember the Wannstedt era they ran him to ground. So keeping rown maybe the best bet. Im outta here guys talk to you tomorrow.

Fins must be having a hard time trading JS if they announce this now! Too bad we could use a third rounder.
Posted by: aquaandorange | March 22, 2010 at 08:19 PM
Anyone read or heard jets owner wanting Miami to play them in the season opener @ jets new stadium Monday night. I called that last week! But still, the decision needs to be decided between the Fins or pats. Whatta night that would be!
Posted by: Finatic | March 22, 2010 at 08:21 PM
its all right. just pick up the guys they cut or release. hell, they cant keep all 15 picks. thats just rediculous. I dont get how they get so many,it makes no sense to me.
yeah, its the cheatriots.
Posted by: farley | March 22, 2010 at 08:22 PM
There is no magic formula on Compensatory picks, u get X amount of picks for X amount of FA lost the prior year and the quality of the FA lost...Patriots got what they deserved according to the formula...Bellicheck is a smart guy, can't criticize him for that

Justin, I was a pretty good high school QB, unfortunately I am only 5'10 and weigh 185 lbs. Also, I played on a terrible team, so I wasn't on anyone's radar. However, that makes me no less an evaluator of talent. God given size and ability don't always mean success will be achieved. I don't have the time nor the concern to find out the number of highly successful GM's who never played football on any level. But I'd be willing to bet there are a good number of them.
