Dolphins interest in Mike Williams is interesting

OK, they're not interested in Brandon Marshall. I get that. They're not interested in Terrell Owens, even as a short-term solution to a big problem. I sort of get that, also.

The Dolphins might not be interested in Dez Bryant if it takes the No. 12 overall selection in the draft to get him. Something about risk versus reward. I get that, too.

Yet there is an interest in Mike Williams.

Hmmmm. I'm trying to get that.

The team brought Williams for a visit at the Davie, FL. training facility on Thursday and spent several hours with him.

Williams is a 6-2, 220-pound prototype from Syracuse University. Well, he was from Syracuse University until he reportedly left the team in November. Those reports, by the way, were the result of Syracuse coach Doug Marrone saying Williams quit the team. So the sourcing cannot be questioned. Williams quit the team according to his coach.

It was a strange situation because Marrone said Williams went to him without being summoned and simply quit.

Asked at the time why Williams quit the team, Marrone said, "You'd have to ask him. I have no idea. I'm not going to discuss the conversation from my end. Obviously, I told you that he came up to me and voluntarily took himself off the team. That's it."

Well, that's not really it.

Reports later surfaced that Williams was on the verge of being suspended by Marrone when he decided to quit. It wasn't the first time Williams had issues at Syracuse. He was suspended from school in 2008 for cheating on a test.

When he quit with four games left in the season, Williams had 49 catches for 746 yards and six touchdowns. He ranked first in the Big East and 14th nationally with seven receptions per game. He was first in his conference and 20th nationally in receiving yards.

The saga of Williams leaving the team in 2009 is a big issue for teams. When a player leaves a team it raises questions as to how much he loves the game, it raises questions whether he's a quitter, it raises questions whether he's likely to repeat the offense in the pros if things get tough, because as Nick Saban used to say, past actions is the best predictor of future actions.

"I've been talking to all the NFL teams about that," Williams said during the Indianapolis Combine in February. " I want to leave it at that. But what I want everybody to know is I didn't quit. I'll leave that story at that."

So Williams didn't want to say what actually happened, or what he believes happened, but he did want to remove the doubt about him quitting.

"I told the teams that, all the teams know the whole story," Williams said. "I want to leave it at that, I don't want to make it a big media story. I just want everybody to know I didn't quit."

Williams apparently is admitting to teams that he cheated on the test. He told them he simply doesn't like school. And he's telling teams that he can be reliable.

"I want to let them know that I'm a nice person, I'm a good person," Williams said. "School was just my problem. I had bad judgment when I was young. School has been my problem, I want to let them know I can play football and be there for that team."

Obviously the Dolphins have bought in -- at least to the point of bringing Williams to town.

no it wasn't po. it was boontang or just becuase

NJ PHIN,

Meh, the post doesnt fit either of their MO's.

Just Because and Po are good guys.

Nah, its someone else. Wouldn't be the 1st up here for sure.

Cheers,

NJ Phins... I may be misreading,

This is exactly as it is written in the Draft tracker...

5 29 (165) S Chris Clemons Acquired from the Colts for the #24 pick in the 2nd round

Bill Ruger, that's flat out wrong. i don't know what the hell they're talking about, miami didn't aquire him from the colts for a 2nd round pick. How did we draft white and smith in the 2nd round. LOL !!

Clemons was picked in the 5th round!

That is what I thought also NJPP...

Strange stuff people write as fact... still really dig Clemmons... As an ACC fan but not a Clemson fan "U" fan here!... I watched him play and he was ALWAYS where the ball was... I hope he gets on the field enough in Preseason to learn and earn the spot...

Mando said he was gonna have his mock out in April!! That should light up this blog

NJ and/or Bobby,

If you get McClain with your 1st pick which should push Dansby out to his second best position at OLB imo. A very unlikely scenario is the Fins may take RM and have Crowder and him fight for the starting spot next to Dansby? That's neither here nor there.

My question is:

What picks do you guys take in rounds 2-4?
You don't have to be precise as its more and more of a guess ther further out ya go.

As and example you could say:

In round 2 a Safety either Chad Kilmer or Brad Dawson

I am thinking they won't take McClain but admit anything is possible with this Wile E. Coyote #12 pick.

Maybe we switched places in the round #2 with the colts and they gave us a 5th?

From PFT, can this guy do anything right???? "In theory, a public relations firm should be able to represent a client's interests in a clear, positive manner.

Here is the statement Brandon Marshall's P.R. firm EAG released Friday night to Josina Anderson of KDVR in Denver:

"Brandon Marshall is continuing to work out and progress this offseason, and is hopeful that wherever he lands that it will be the right place. Additionally, if it were true that a contract extension commensurate with Marshall's skills was actually offered, there would be no question as to what team Marshall would be staying with at this time."

Luckily, we have our shoddy P.R. firm translator nearby. It spit this out:

"Brandon Marshall wants a lot of money. It's cool if the Broncos are the team to pay it. As long as it's lot of money."

Here's a tip to Marshall if he wants to save money: Fire your public relations team."

I say Armando will take Boldin in the #12 spot!!!

Er!! Chust chokin' Armando... <]:^b~

Rob in OC... I'll be damned if I remember that happening. I have a draft par every year and I don't remember any deals with Colts picks that day. I just read it and was like...WTF?... I think its just a screw up...

Rob in OC, lol, everyday is different, ask me right now, Rd 2 NT Rd 3 FS Rd 4 TE or WR...but of course u know how I feel about that TE from Arizons, I take him in the 2 spot....If we pick up extra picks via trade or whatever then we can get more specific...Smiley thing is annoying right now

M Williams runs the complete route tree better than the other wrs except for D Bryant. I like D Thomas a lot but only runs two routes , none over the middle. His red flags are all academic , he can be a #1 WR and won't cost a 1st rd pick.

Between rounds 1-4 we need extra picks, that is pretty obvious, it's where do they come from???

Bill,

I am learning more and more that even some trusted sources (or what should be trusted like NFL.com etc) don't always have the best/most accurate info.

You kind of have to check multiple spots for things. You can Wikipedia Clemons and see if anything jumps out that explains the trade? They have some odd facts on their sometimes.

Cheers,

Well... Miami did indeed do a deal with Indy in the 2009 draft... here is the details..

The Dolphins traded its second-round selection (56th overall) to Indianapolis for their second- and fifth-round selection (61st and 165th overall, respectively).

Her is where ya find it...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Miami_Dolphins_season

Scroll down to "Drafts" then a bit more to "Notes"
In the big Picture we gained a 5th round pick by dropping from 56th to 61st... Miami used that pick later in the season for Tyler Thigpen..
A good deal for Miami except the use of the 61st left a lot to be desired.

So... Yes Rob in OC from 10:45... you are 100% correct. I had forgotten that deal. Likely because we no longer have the 5th rounder and the 61st sucked and the Draft party was a REALLY good one!

Again... Thanks Rob <)%^]

Goodnight gentlemen...Jamarcus Russell 290 Pounds LMAO!!!

Hey we are always on the case Bill!!

as Bill Murray said in GhostBusters:

"No job is too big, no fee is too big."

8-)

Cheers,

Bill,

I think Clemons was the 5th round pick last year and we gave up the fifth THIS year for Thigpen.

I gotta think the regime is working overtime to get some extra picks right now. Smiley, Thigpen and maybe even Will Allen might be being shopped right now.

I'm saying WR in the second, NT in the third and FS or TE in the fourth, as things stand right now.

Bobby,

The extra picks we all crave would have to come from trading players or mortgaging future picks.

The losing of future picks is not in BP's M.O. too often.

Trade possibles:

Thigpen
Penny
Crowder
Brown
Cobbs
Ginn
Camarillo
Smiley

Although EVERY could be had for the right price, the list above seem the most likely's. Injury and production would seriously hamper most value on this list.

Cheers,

Night Bobby

Dear Mr. Salguero

Quick question

Can you post your new articles at about 6:00 AM est from now on ?

When you update your blog with new articles later in the evening by the time I get to them their stale.

Nothing like a cup of coffee and a breakfast ciggarette to go along with your new article to keep a man regular.

Soiled :)

The 61 pick sucked ? really ?? Sean smith sucked ??? I think not. This years 5th round pick was traded for thigpen.

That reciever looked terrible

Anybody wanna see UM TE Jimmy Graham on the fins. Guy looks real good.

thunderbolt,

sarasota cane does, thats his dude

Im hearing his name and fins alot. That be an awesome steal in rd 3.

Rob in OC: (from 10:26 PM)

Unless you actually ARE a Blue Smurf....There's no reason to feel hurt.

What was in the post besides some harmless silly chant???

"No Brandon Graham for Rob-bie",.. "No Brandon Graham for Rob-bie!"
(Imagine Lou Costello singing it...)

That REALLY bothers you????

(There was nothing else in the post.)

No harm meant...
I just felt like taunting you a little because of your loyal (if not Relentless) promotion of Graham.

You're allowed to have your own opinion... and with all the opposition that you've faced (and handled) so far, I would expect that you would have been more amused than offended.

Anyway, My apologies, I wasn't trying to terrorize you with the 'Robbie' thing... it was really just meant to be a Spoof and a Joke.

CraigM.... I believe that is a very solid plan... It will of course always come down to what is available at that Moment they pick. I really was hoping to see WR Arelius (spell check?) Benn to fall to the 2nd with Miami. Many are letting him out in the late 20's in the 1st round now. One Mocker has him going to the Patsy's which would suck. His name is lost on me (long day) but the kid out of Tulane was on Miamis radar, they worked him out and think they like him. But he is more like a late #3 or 4th rounder. I know one guy who has just been mentioned I want Miami to take... Graham out of the "U" at TE is my sleeper. I just get a feeling he is going to be a special player. I know he can damn sure catch the ball... like he sweats stick um man... I read he has like 9 7/8 in hands. He was a B-Baller and converted to F-Ball... lots of athleticism and raw talent... just VERY short on experience... I have been mobbed for liking this guy... still will not come of Him though... I'm tellin ya!... he will be a prime timer one day IMHO....

This article makes me sick. We won't look at Marshall or to but well look at a guy who quit his team? Guess what guys, in a month our draft picks are going to suck, because they almost always do, we are going to go to the season with no 1 receiver, the worst core in the league again, and we are going to win 7 games. And u better believe all 7 games will be won by less than seven points because we can't win any other way, even if we are playing the winless bucs.

Lou Costello,

I'll squash it at this point. I am glad you clarified or cleaned it up some.

Anytime someone doesn't like my choices, players, strategy or whatever I don't take it personal.

Use my name that many times and it gets there... You see it now and I'm cool.

Apology accepted.

What wisdom of player choices are you standing by these days? Do tell.

Cheers,

I'll probably get killed for this, but here it goes. Why not skip Wr. early in this draft, concentrate on defense, then choose a tight end. There is much more value in the 3rd or 4th round picking a Te. Besides Dez(who I don't think will be chosen @ 12) And Tate, possible 2nd rounder. All the top guys give us what we already have, a bunch of possetion guys. Why not look to Te. for that big Red Zone reciever. Dorin Dickerson could be there for the picking in the 3rd, the guy had 43 inch vert leap, is versitile as an h back or split wide . We have serviceable recievers. If Henne can improve his accuracy(too many balls thrown high, or poor spots) our recievers will improve there YAC. A stat that we were lacking last year.

Now that I'm done ranting about how much I can't stand the trifecta lately, can someone please tell me why if tebow sucks so badly at throwing the ball and he's not an NFL qb and all why do all these mock drafts have him getting picked in the second round? I was hoping he'd go much much later or get undrafted.

Thunderbolt,

Nah, Jimmy graham in the 4rth would be the better bargain.

We have to remember this is a basketball player mostly with some football skills he is really trying hard to dust off.

I see a whole big bunch of upside in the kid and think he will end up with a fine pro career.

I think he gets overdrafted in the 3rd imo.

Cheers,

Darryl I went to most of the games, our receivers are even worse in person. Henne needs targets. Look at his yard total. He has done more than most could with this core and it was basically his rookie year. We can't skip wr of we won't go afte marshall or to. Henne is too young to be giving him Bess as his best option, with his all of three tds in the last two years! I do believe we need a new te though.

Inimounts you are an idiot.

"in a month our draft picks are going to suck, because they almost always do"

Lol! What a fool... You sound like a whiny little punk...

Guess what? Your golden boy Marshall was a 4th round draft pick!!! What makes you think there is not someone available in the mid-rounds that can't be just as good?

Carlito I was saying that the draft happens in a month, and in the last ten years our draft picks have almost entirely been busts. If u can't disagree intelligently, go be a jets fan.

NJ.... I believe we have already made it very clear I had some confusion over what I read. I am not stupid enough to dislike the Sean Smith pick... but thanks. But I am glad YOU are on the case to keep ME in line.... who do I mail the check to?

I don't know if I can stand hearing Marshall was a fourth round pick by these fools one more time. They are the same people who think Patrick turner is going to be another miles Austin.

I like the Sean smith pick but I don't want to get rid of will Allen, I don't think Sean smith is ready for the NFL yet. He played the entire last year and didn't come up with one int I believe, which to me was such a disappointment with his two great ones in preseason

Rob -- that was the most concise post you've made in weeks.
(see notice...I'm kidding....)

My choice of players are MONSTERS who Run 5.5 or less.

Why?

BECAUSE I WANT TO.. K I L L..THE JETS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Inimounts,

Disagree intelligently? Child please, I never seen you say one smart thing about football. Only whining about Marshall and TO and saying ridiculous things like the trifecta can't draft. You are a whiny punk, go be a pats fan, you'll fit right in.

P.S.

You can't stand hearing Marshall was a 4th round pick because it is a fact and sound reasoning. Stupid people can't stand things like this.

U know what this blog needs? An ignore code u could punch In to not see someones posts. Unfortunately then, carlito would be talking to himself all day :(

Thunderbolt and Rob in OC.... I really like Graham as I said above... I also like him in the 4th Rob.... I seriously think he is going to make an impact on the league. I know one thing... Graham can freakin catch... He has crazy vertical leap and has sticky hands. Have not read a scouting report on his blocking and did not see enough of him in the "U" know. I would be more optimistic about him coming to Miami if he had of played all 4 years in the Football program... Parcells likes that full body of work. May hurt the kid Atmando wrote about in this blog not having finished this season if Maim did have any interest.

Lou Costello,

We are partners in crime then cause I wanna smush Jets and their wicked chubster Overlord going Baliwood Jabba Da Hard Knocker!

Cheers,

Its a Shame some don't follow the blog code, this could be a great one: talk about the blogs subject only, intelligently and respectfully. Disagree with deference and state ur comments and opinions in reference to others comments and opinions not the person themselves. I think more people would join if it was always like that.

believe me inimounts, if there was an ignore button you would be one of the first to go. I can't stand a whiny punk that provides no insight.

blog code? blog subject only?

wow

what a punk

keep whining... its great

Ok... Here's my current, always changing top 5 for the 12th pick (Eric Berry is not in there, but if by some miracle he falls, you gotta take him)

1. Rolando McClain
2. Dan Williams
3. Dez Bryant
4. Derrick Morgan
5. Earl Thomas

Honorable mention to Weatherspoon

Bill,

I like Jimmy Graham a bunch too. When I said he will get overdrafetd I meant I thought soem team would take a chance in the 3rd even though he has such limited experience.

He has the triangle numbers 6'6 1/4 and 260 lbs. The killer is the 4.56 40 time at the combine. He ONLY played 13 games yet had 5 TD's which is a decent ratio for a guy that raw. His blocking needs work but he seems willing to improve. He won't ever be a road grader but if he can fill out and learn some technique he could become decent.

Sky is the limit for him and I hope he fits into the draft plans somehow. I think he could really open up the middle and draw attention away from our WR's. Hoping he ends up in the 4rth by some banana peel antics by others teams going for other players.

Cheers,

That's it Rob in OC..... time to pull down the shutters... the draft in inconsequential and the only way to win is buy going and getting Marshall... Question... why have the other 31 teams not been interested?... answer..."Funk That"..... Now, Rob... Don't you know "REAL PLAYERS" you know those things called "Chunk yarders?" are only cultivated on OTHER TEAMS?... yep... that's right. Only way to get good players is to go to other teams who know how to grow them... Those guys they grow are not from the draft... they are from "Planet Freeagencia" and are imported for use by teams who want to win... all those guys you see being taken in the NFL from NCAA draft are really brought to a gas chamber and exterminated.... Get with it Rob!... How is it you don't know these things? BTW... when you get a Freeagencia player... they come with a "Lombardi or Bust" guarantee. Yep... You will either win with the guy you get in his very first year... otherwise... instead of allowing him to develop and become a great player... you call him a bust an go find/Buy another one... It a guaranteed way to win.....Nothing at all.

If Berry is around at 7, what is the chance the phins trade UP with Cleveland to grab him? Would a third round pick be too much, it would give the Steamers 4 3rd rounders, we could grab Cam Thomas in the 2nd round, and boom with Dansby we are solid up the middle. I know this is far fetched, but it's just a scenario I thought up in my tiny little mind!

Lol @ ask bill ruger, great post.

carlito, (I think Berry is a stud too)

Same format:

1.) Brandon Graham
2.) C.J. Spiller
3.) Earl Thomas
4.) Weatherspoon
5.) Mike Iupati

Honorable mention: D. Thomas

Cheers,

Ask Bill ruger , you had confusion on the trade to indy . That was cleared. Then you made a statement about how that 61 pick in the trade sucked . You obviously were in confusion about the 61 pick being pat white. I corrected It , that's all. You can send the check right to obama. He's going to take it anyway and redistribute it to some crackhead .

NJ,

I would like to nominate inimounts for the plungie
