Karlos Dansby expected to sign by Saturday

Karlos Dansby is close to reaching agreement on a contract with the Dolphins and the sides are expected to wrap up negotiations by Saturday morning, a source is telling The Herald's Jeff Darlington.

Dansby, 28, will sign a deal for five years worth $43 million with $22 million of it guaranteed, Darlington is reporting.

Dansby will make $9 million per year over the first three years.

The signing will be Miami's signature free agent move since Bill Parcells & Co. took over the Dolphins in 2008. The only linebackers that will be getting paid more than Dansby in 2010 are DeMarcus Ware and Terrell Suggs and both of them are pass-rushers.

The signing clearly numbs the sting of not chasing wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who was traded from the Arizona Cardinals to the Baltimore Ravens this afternoon.

Free safety Antrel Rolle, the last of the Three Cards Studs is still unsigned but strong indications are he will end up with the Giants, according to a league source.

[Update 10 p.m.: Rolle agreed to a 5-year deal worth $37 million with the Giants, the source tells me. Rolle gets $15 million guaranteed.]

Guess 1-for-3 isn't terrible.

I would rather have had Boldin than Dansby, but at least they ventured out of the bargain bin in free agency. The Dolphins have REALLY struggled at inside LB since Zach left. This fills a huge need.

My hope was that they were going to get Dansby + Boldin and then draft McClain. Guess that's not going to happen.

hes a good lb not great. this signing isnt putting us over the top or even close. we still have zero play makers on offense

Rob In OC, the answer is of course I rallying around Dansby, nice pick up and even if we do nothing else in FA it has given us stronger options in the draft

I am VERY happy. Great get in Dansby. Big, strong, fast and a good experienced tackling machine. As with any transaction it may not work out as scripted... I do have a good feeling about Dansby though.

I was only thinking and asking for Dansby so I feel like I got my guy. I was thinking they might chase Bolden harder but that was a LOT of dough for him.

I am thinking maybe Safety Clark as a capper?

What do you think of the signing?

I hope they keep Dansby on the inside. I am still a fan of McClain, but it does give them more flexibility with the 12th pick. The 2 players I want the most for Miami aren't going to go until the second and third rounds. Those players are Demaryius Thomas and Cam Thomas

We signed the player we wanted & needed. Don't cry too much about getting Bolden. It's still all about the draft. Stronger teams can afford to give up early to mid round picks. Phins aren't there yet. Signing all those Cards would have reminded me of the early '90's when Shula signed former Eagle players because his team had a reputation for being "soft". How many titles did those signings bring?

I think Dansby will primarily be used as an ILB with Crowder taking over the other ILB spot formally manned by Ayodele. I envision seeing alot of Wake at OLB this year, especially with someone like Dansby in the middle who can cover sideline to sideline. This will free up Wake to be turned loose on QBs.

In case you didn't notice, it was the defense that cost the Dolphins the most games last year.

Rob in Oc,

Great you tube footage on that Dansby fella ;)

In the 3-4 if your nose tackle can't take up space for the linebackers to roam and make tackles you will have no chance stopping the run(last year) Now that the Phins have signed Dansby,Dan Williams makes a lot of sense. I know this won't happen, but why not take a flier on Aarron Kampman. I know he's coming of knee surgery, and the Pack probably won't let him go, but it wouldn't hurt to put some feelers out.

Sean is right about NT, that is a must and Dan Willuams is now very much in play

People who understand football have no problems with this signing. A LB in his prime who is scheme-versatile and plays all 3 downs, ill take that any day of the week. Mike Nolan has MANY different packages and personnel groupings, and this is a big piece for what he wants to accomplish.

I for one am not real big on signing A Rolle, not enough big plays. Everyone knows how I feel about Earl Thomas and what he brings to our defense. This signing gives us many more options in the draft.

Also, if Dansby is going to play ILB, he and Crowder compliment each other very well. This is a big signing for Crowder IMO.

good post! hooray! rejoice!

has crowder ever done anything???

Paul, I Phone has GPS, I'm never lost but I give u permission to pray for me, thks in advance

Denver just signed Nate Jones. Too bad, he has played well for the Dolphins the last 2 years.

Do not judge, Christian brother. Now let's talk football instead of attacking other members, regardless of their motives.

I think it's official as per wikipedia: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karlos_Dansby?wasRedirected=true

I've attended the U since '02 and I've seen some special ball players come through since then. Players with things you just can't teach.

This guy reminds me of someone special, and I wouldn't mind making him a phin.

This is huge and gives us flexability in the draft. It was a great move by the Trifecta.

Armando by the way:
Back to the G-Wil issue and his release, that Ireland said he still had his back etc...if you don't know by now those comments are or where just lip service then he worked you. And taking what he said with a grain of salt means your feel somewhat disrespected if not hurt all together by what most thought of as PR'n by Ireland and company. I mean it's always in the best interest of the team regardless if that player will be released or not, that anything said reagrding the Dolphins orginization player or other wise would be said or projected in a positive manner. BS and all....lol

So Pepper's goes to the Bears good.
OK I'm out checking in later.

First the only NT that played NT that I know of is Cody...every other DT in this draft played DT last season. If the Dolphins were looking at a DT...I may agree with you, but then again I believe the one DT that is getting overlooked is Houston. At 305 lbs he ran a 4.86 which is far better than the top DT's in this draft...he played in a top college and played 4 years..and I wouldn't put it past Parcells to notice this too...plus he lifted 30 reps, where Williams only did 27.
Let someother team grab Williams..I'll take Houston with the third pick, thank you.

no longer confused. I just read Marshall may be on his way to seattle who has the 6th and 14th picks in the 1st. If they reach an offer the Broncos would have the 6th and 11th pick that would more than likely end our hopes for MCClain and Bryant at 12. I do not mind missing out on Bryant, but, would hate to miss out on McClain.

This would solidify the 12 pick at NT or OLB IMO as I think Berry would be gone by the 12th pick.

On the fence about Rolle, I want to believe Clemons is ready to step up and the Fins only need to bring in some competition and depth..signing Rolle would tell me Fins don't have the faith in Clemons which worries me

I am with ya on D Thomas!!! He is my #1 WR when all things are considered. His size, where you can get him, speed etc.

Cam Thomas would be a good oick up too but I would take DT before Cam T. I believe that some of the DT are closely related talentwise that I may wait another round or two and get a Lamarr Houston, Linval Joeseph, Troup.

If they are REALLY worried about NT they could sign an est player like Jamal Williams or Bannon from the FA pool. I think they have a good idea right now if Ferg is gonna be back or not.

and still no offense

Under the radar we need to trade White, Sign Chad and buy a starting Safety.

Then we can all rest until the draft when we pick a # 1 WR and a starting NT.

Just need one more impact signing on either side of ball and that will open up options in draft. Huge signing!!!

before i get ripped a NEW ONE...

TYPO McClain or Bryant at 12.

NO NJ PHIN?? Wth? He is not showing up because the Fins signed Dansby???

He would only get moderate chiding anyways... I hope he is not ducking the board. Lol.

It's all in good fun anyways. Miami could NOT afford to strikeout on Dansby and they didn't. Overpaid or right on time for this market it will be a good pick-up.

FishyPete, I really hate to take a chance on a guy like Houston for NT...I prefer Willuams but if not then Thomas or Troupe at minimum..like Sean said this IS the most important player in the 3-4

FIN4EVER,Thank You,BROTHER i needed that.I just want him to know are GOD.Because its his to.He should know this b-4 he dyes.We all will have are day with him.Amen.

Fabio, here's your safety

All beware. Think about it. Free agency is most likely NOT to work. We're cutting 3 guys everyone was soooo excited about from free agency to sign another guy. Gotta draft well.

Good pick and a very solid ILB. great at run stopping and covers good.

Welcome Karlos. Our real LB since 54

Just Because,How many of you are BROTHERS IN CHRIST? Just say yes or no.For me its YES.

course we are paul, bobby will learn

Love You Brother,Its easy for me, YES.

Paul/ALoco we made a deal the other night to talk football..please bro, let's not go in this direction Halleluia!!!!

Marino guy ur an idiot

I'm hoping Seatlle gets this Marshall deal done, that means Denver takes Dez and we can get to talking about Dolphin receivers in realistic terms

In this draft I would take the NT of the Trifecta's choice in the 3-4 round area. If they figure out Ferg is NOT coming back grab a second tier NT FA like Bannon or Jamal Williams for insurance.

I would rather see one choice of these players: WR D. Thomas(2), TE Jimmy Graham(3), RB Spiller(1),or RB Ben Tate Best(2) to add more chunk yardage to Off in round 1 or 2.

In the other round 1 or 2 I would take a Def. Weatherspoon(1), Hughes(2), Williams(1), Graham (1-2)

Read it Bobby12,(Bible).It won't hurt you.I've seen some of your POSTS.Complete FILTH.Way to go PAUL.What a nice surprise that was.

Rob in OC, and by the way, did u notice neither Dansby, Rolle, Bolin, Peppers etc signed with NE??? Or Washington for that matter???

Yezzuur. I knew we wouldn't let him leave SOBE. Now let's snag up Antonio with a lower level deal, hope Rolle comes around and passes on the deal in NYC to come here(Half his money will go to NY in taxes anyways), and take a hard look at trying to acquire Olsen from the bears or Marshall from Denver. After that the Draft is a piece of cake. Let's get it!

I understand the idea of dan williams with the 12 pick----but understand if we go that route he will not play well his first year---Rookie Dt never have a good 1st year because they arent experienced or strong enough--its a boy going aggainst men

the only Dt to have a good rookie year was toommy harris in the last decade---Haynsworth was unkown for first two years---thats why i rather go with a vet NT in FA---

And sign rookie LBs who may have a impact 1st year---as you see with Cushing---you can be a pro bowler

so if we go dan williams ---all you impatient bust labeling 1st year FANS will have to know what you are getting into--

this draft class for DT is phenomianil but i would be surprized if more than 1 guy really had an impact cause history says all 1st and 2nd year DT struggle and the 3rd year is usally the one that you see DT make a stride---thats why im pulling for big Paul

I'm gonna go paint the town with some friends and the wifi unit.

Have fun chatting Fins to wins!

Thank you all who said (YES)I know now who you are.And i feel so much BETTER.

kinda weird...already new game in town with Shanahan there. New showing cracks in the armor by not having the same draw power...it seemed like they were chasing or at least inquiring about a few guys. they resigned TullyBC but that's not earth shattering. Glad Brady is not slinging it to Bolden!

get off this marshall and olsen garbage, they have no interest in either

You are just a hater---boldin is on the decline , he is a #2 WR---and danby is a great LB that still has never played in a great scheme---Dansby will be a probowler under mike nolan---just like Ray Ray was-----you should be estatic--stop hatn --im sorry ur not informed about dansby because u never saw his name in Fantasy Football, get out this blog--u undercover jets fan

hope Rolle comes around and passes on the deal in NYC to come here(Half his money will go to NY in taxes anyways

Posted by: Neezzybaby | March 05, 2010 at 09:55 PM

That is avery good point actually. Whatever is offered in NY/NJ area is offset with the incredible income taxes that have to be paid in that area of the country.

Y'all leave bobby12 alone. our goal is to not change people but that people will be changed and that only comes from GOD. Bobby I am no saint, but, a christian, nonetheless. I do not know what the talk is all about or your faith. Just know, that, God loves you and so do all that profess Christ and the peace that passes all understanding is for you and everyone. All that has to be done is ask for it.

just read on one of the rummor boards

Rolle still talking to Giants, Cardinals
Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2010 9:42 PM ET
When the Chicago Bears locked onto defensive end Julius Peppers on Thursday night, they dropped out of the Antrel Rolle sweepstakes.

Now that the Dolphins have signed linebacker Karlos Dansby, they apparently have abandoned the pursuit of Rolle, too.

Per a league source, the negotiations for Rolle's services have focused on the Giants and the Cardinals.

It makes sense. With Miami giving $22 million and $8.5 million per year to Dansby, investing $8 million annually in Rolle would represent the kind of free spending that should be avoided by a team that sometimes struggles to fill its stadium.

Thus, barring something unforeseen, Rolle will remain a Cardinal or become a Giants, probably soon.

are u comparing dansby to ray ray, come on dude. yes im glad we signed him but hes one of about 15 pieces we need, hes not the savior
