ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay just got off a conference call and I asked him his thoughts on outside linebackers and specifically, 3-4 outside linebackers that fit the Dolphins prototype.
The good news?
McShay believes there are two such OLB candidates that would be value picks at No. 12.
The bad news?
McShay believes there are only two such OLB candidates that would be value picks at No. 12 and both were college defensive ends and are being looked at as NFL 4-3 defensive ends by several teams.
The two players are Derrick Morgan of Georgia Tech and Jason Pierre-Paul of South Florida.
"If Miami's targetting one of the top two guys I mentioned and believe they can play outside linebacker which wouldn't shock me, by the way, Derrick Morgan I do think he's a better fit as a traditional defensive end," McShay said. "But he's 6-4, 268. Jason Pierre-Paul is a little bigger -- 6-5, 263. If they're targetting one of those two, I think at No. 12 it would be a good spot for either of them. I like Morgan a little more than Pierre-Paul, but I can see either player being a pretty good value."
I asked McShay to give me his three top "pure 3-4" OLBs and he mentioned Michigan's Brandon Graham, Texas's Sergio Kindle and TCU's Jerry Hughes. But I pressed him whether it's accurate none of those three would be value at No. 12, McShay.
"Yes," he answered, "That would be accurate to say."
That doesn't mean McShay doesn't like those guys.
"I would probably start with Brandon Graham and depending on the 3-4 you're running, his height is a little bit of a concern so factor that in. I do think Brandon Graham, if you're looking for a 3-4 outside linebacker is as good as you're going to get in this class,' McShay said. "I just don't classify Derrick Morgan or Jason Pierre-Paul as typical 3-4 outside linebackers. I think Brandon Graham you start with his motor, intensity, toughness. I go back and watch LaMarr Woodley as a senior coming out and compare him to Brandon Graham and there's not a big difference. And you see the big impact Woodley has made.
"Sergio Kindle would probably be the next guy after Graham. He was productive at Texas but not quite as productive as you would have liked to see," McShay continued. "And he's at his best when you turn him loose and let him get up the field. He has good athleticism but he needs to get stronger versus the run, I think that's going to be an issue for him and may keep him out of the top 20 picks.
"After that I'd go with Jerry Hughes of TCU," McShay said. "He's an explosive pass-rusher and can get after the quarterback."

Actaully, now that i think about it, I think her name was Liz...
O well, good times anyways....

McShay is a nerd without a clue.
How is Graham not value at #12? He's a playmaker that led the nation in tackles for loss; with bigtime power and speed.

First who says that the Dolphins are going to stay at 12...then who says that they have to select a OLB if they stay with the 12th pick.
Let me bring you all back to the article that Armando had earlier....concerning Dez Bryant and the Cowboys. Why would the Cowboys bring Bryant in when they select at 27 in the first round...the answer is obvious, they wouldn't even waste their time...unless they move up.
No matter what you think of Dez Bryant...he's the talent at recever in this draft...he will not drop to 27...now you have a team that is friendly with the Dolphins...I can see the Dolphins trading back with the cowboys, the Cowboys acquire Bryant at 12 and the Dolphins get the 27th and an additional pick(s) and select a player they deem a need at 27, otherwise it just doesn't make sense. Think what having a receiver like Bryant playing across from Austin....do you think Jerry Jones see's players he use to have again, playing for him....and Jones isn't afraid to trade...when he believe's in a player.

Mock Draft/NFL info site "WalterFootball" has had Miami taking Jason Paul-Pierre with the 12th for weeks now. Not certain why, he admits that Paul is a "One Year Wonder" with a "High Bust probability". I watched the kid play a few times live and on tape several times. I'll give him this... he is insane quick to get around the edge and has more athletic ability in his big toe then many guys who will go in the first round have in their entire body. I saw him do like 10 or 15 back flips in a row once... never moved more then 3 feet from where he started. I have been a "Walterfootball" fan for some years and the guy has a knack for nailing the picks. Here is the site if interested... best thing about this site is it has a ton of other info aside from just Mocks... I'm sure some of you already know about it.... Here ya go..

ESPN is talking about the Henne Tebow deal in the next few minutes.
Posted by: Po White Trash | March 18, 2010 at 07:47 PM
I see where Miami hosted a Linebacker named Rashad Jeanty today. He was a Bengal, 26 years old and broke a leg in last years game against the Jests in the Play-offs. I know Nothing about him other then Miami hosted him at their facility. I can't get my mind around what Miami may have in store for this draft. Should they take another FA Linebacker, that would cut yet another pick lose in the draft to trade or use on other needs/wants... He is 26 years old 6'2 247 had 96 tackles in 15 games in 2008 (2nd on team) only started 1 game and had 20 last year.

They just played the clip Henne with that "dude" Anita, Henne said Tebow's not a NFL QB and Henne had a smug comment about beating the gators by 45 or 50 points and saying Tebow had a bad game, which they did Kick the Gators a s s, Props, Then Matt Millen says some team will pick Tebow and develop him like Miami did with Henne. LOL

What I want to ask from the self appointed experts like NJ and Bobby12 and Bootang is ...
Seeing as you know so much and you understand what Bill Parcells philosophy is, the please ENLIGHTEN us all...
NJ et al: Tell us who YOU think the TUNA will most likely take in say ROUNDS 1 and 2.
Or if there are too many variables, give me Tunas top TEN draft board PLEASE...
Then Im gonna keep it and see if your correct or not.
Bobby, you keep saying we wont draft a WR early in this draft or even via FA...Please post Tunas TOP TEN draft board please.

32 teams and Our QB (henne) has to open his mouth.
Posted by: Finatic | March 18, 2010 at 08:14 PM
i have to disagree with most of the comments against Mcshay he is absolutly correct---
Rob--he is right when he says JPP has value and morgan has value at 12.
JPPis risky and so is sergio kindle might i add---the guy has no position---
But you are talking about a top 12 pick---not a top 15 not a top 25----a top 10 pick you better get a super talent---with heavy upside---while i admit a jerry hughes and BG---are better locks to have a solid career compared to a guy like JPP---(who i have been a fan of for 6 months now)
Thier upside isnt comparable---JPP has the upside to be the next demarcus ware---and jerry hughes and BG--dont have a ceiling that compares to it---
Potential is value----with a top 12 pick---u dont take a top 30 talent at 12---u trade out of the pick if you want BG or kindle or hughes---they dont have the upside for a 12 pick----
I rather go Earl or dan williams then go with those 3---cause of the value standpoint---i been sayn it for weeks----if we get a pass rusher it is JPP or Morgan.
Now where i do agree is you all are exaclty right with your concerns b/c he only has 1 year of tape----but is that his fault---we arent talking about a kid who was at south florida for 3 years and has only 1 good year of tape----i think coaches like JPP b/c he is a good kid that will play hard, and continue to learn the game---BG or hughes might be better intitailly but these kid future could be tremendous for us---
JPP is not dunlap--and i think in the interviews teams will get the vibe that this is a kid who works hard---and as a coach im saying give me the kid with the superior talent and i will coach him up--

Posted by: Po White Trash | March 18, 2010 at 08:21 PM
Bigafly,
I have never claimed to be an expert. Also, if you read my posts, you woul know the player I most want at 12 is Earl Thomas. He is highly unlikely to go because of Parcells and what he usually likes. You would have also read that Aaron Hernandez is one of top guys I would like. He is 6'2 however, and Parcells has never drafted a TE under 6'4. So two of the guys I call for don't fit Parcells mold, so you can't say I buy into his mold. And I would also say after the Pat White pick, there's no use in even trying to predict what he would do. I have talked to you many times bigafly, and never been disrespectful. I don't see the need to call me out. I give my personal opinion, I ask others for theirs, I don't call anyone names.

def not super excited about rashad jeanty visit to dolphins, the guy broke his leg in the plaoff game vs the jets...
6"2 250
Not much info on the guy he had 1 solid year for the bengals a year ago and lost his job to maluaga---
They are sayn he is being looked at to see if he could play OLB for us , but i think thats just bad reporting his size fits more as an ilb---like torbor played olb in NY, but inside for us
