Why am I working today?
Bill Parcells isn't. He spent Saturday morning in Jupiter, FL. at the shared training facility of the Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals. Parcells is tight with Cards manager Tony LaRussa and has a healthy respect for Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez, also.
So the Big Tuna is taking in a spring training game this afternoon. Of course, he has his phone with him and is in contact with the home office back in Davie. But this all suggests today doesn't compare with Friday's start of free agency for electric activity.
The team should announce the signing of Karlos Dansby later today. The fact is the NFL transactions wire has him as signed already.
[Update 2:30 p.m.: The contracts have been signed and the club is expected to announce the signing of Dansby and Chad Pennington within the next 90 minutes or so.]
[Update 4 p.m. :The Dolphins did not have any UFA visits today that they are reporting to the NFL. And the Dansby contract, in fact, will be signed in a few minutes. Last-second language stuff. He's on the way to the facility to get it done.]
One would assume the team is making calls on it's second wave of free agents -- assuming there are any.
It stands to reason that as safety was a priority as soon as Antrel Rolle (the one that got away) was cut loose by Arizona, that Miami would take the next logical step toward filling that spot. The next logical step would be to check out the other available free safeties on the market.
The Herald's Jeff Darlington is reporting the Dolphins have not to this moment shown interest in St. Louis Rams restricted free agent O.J. Atogwe. Atogwe was tendered with a right of first refusal contract, meaning the Dolphins wouldn't have to pay draft choice compensation to sign Atogwe.
Another restricted free agent safety is Indy's Antoine Bethea. The guy was a Pro Bowl player, if you recall. The draft pick compensation on him is substantial -- a first round pick. But one would suppose the team could always work a trade with the Colts rather than give up the first-round selection. (Maybe a second-rounder?)
Many of you have asked about Darren Sharper as a Dolphins possibility. He'll be 35 years old in November and the Dolphins didn't show any interest in him last year when he was a year younger and available cheaply. This one would not make sense at this time.
Pittsburgh's Ryan Clark is available. Good player. Make sense. The Herald is looking into whether he is on the radar or not.
The one that got away met with the press corps that covers his new team today.
Safety Antrel Rolle was introduced to the New York media today. (Yes, some teams actually have press conferences to introduce their new players.) Rolle talked about what type of player the Giants are getting.
"I think I can make any type of play, to be honest" he said. "Not to sound cocky or arrogant, but that's just the way I am. I'm never going into a game and deny myself an opportunity. If it presents itself, I think I can definitely make the play."
Rolle talked about how the Giants made him feel comfortable and reminded him how it was being recruited at the University of Miami. The Miami native said he felt "like home" with the Giants.
Let me tell you another reason Rolle isn't actually playing at home, as in for the Dolphins. MONEY!
The Giants blew the Dolphins away on the cash front. The Dolphins offered Rolle a deal averaging $6 million per season. The Giants paid Rolle a deal that averages $7.4 million per season.
And the Dolphins didn't come in second for Rolle. They were third.
Rolle said the Arizona Cardinals were willing to match the Giants offer. The Dolphins clearly were not.
Check back often as I will have the latest updates from The Herald team right here. And follow me on twitter. Also, follow Darlington on twitter.

What about signing T.O.? 1 year contract, he has always played his ass off in the first season and if he works out you have a great reciever for cheap and no long term money or committment.

now that we got Dansby, lets get Dez in the draft, or better yet use our first round pick to get the beast Brandon Marshal from denver. Trust me he is worth it
Posted by: RCS | March 06, 2010 at 05:15 PM
JayLeill - I say run like hell. I hear where you're coming from, but I just don't see that with B.P. He wouldn't refer to him by name in Dallas and I think that was the beginning of the end over there.
T. Glen in in N.E. and T.O. in Dallas. The owners wanted them and each time B.P. said peace!
None of those teams did anything significant with those guys.

Neither Brandon Marshall nor Dez Bryant Will ever be a Dolphin, is this now a fantasy football blog or what???

Interesting report from ProFootballTalk.
It says Dansby expects to play Inside with Chowder.
Dansby deal finalized
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 6, 2010 5:01 PM ET
More than 30 hours after Karlos Dansby landed in Miami, a contract for the linebacker has been finalized with the Dolphins.
The parameters were agreed to Friday night, but the deal was complex enough to take until Saturday afternoon to finish. Dansby is on the way to the Dolphins facility as we type, according to Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald.
Dansby spoke Saturday about his excitement to join the Dolphins, especially because 40 Dolphins were working out when he arrived Friday.
He also confirmed he would play inside linebacker. He's versatile and there was some thought he could play outside, but Dansby expects to team with Channing Crowder inside in Miami's 3-4 defense.

if we get marshall our passing game and running game is tons better right now period these draft picks could turn into pat white pat turner teddy ginn john bosa rick graf john avery jamar fletcher etc etc etc
Posted by: kc | March 06, 2010 at 05:23 PM
I like two ufas Maaka Keamaotu and Ryan Clark.
Do you think theese players are on our radar. No glamor pickups but solid FOOTBALL players. If healthy Keamotu could be a productive space eater nose, and Ryan Clark is never out of position and just an effective starter.
Posted by: ronski_doodle | March 06, 2010 at 05:24 PM
If Dansby does play inside this means no McClain at 12. It means NT or OLB.
Posted by: TNPhinFan | March 06, 2010 at 05:24 PM
lets put it this way if we get marshall today our passing game and also running game is much much better right now period i dont care about the diva crap these coaches and management get paid pretty dam good to deal with that stuff besides whos to say whoever we draft isnt gonna be a diva or a horrible human being i mean most of the people on here love rey lewis for god sakes so i think we can deal with marshall
Posted by: kc | March 06, 2010 at 05:29 PM
If Brandon Marshall is such a "beast", and Mr. Everything why are teams not jumping all over him??? Boldin got draft picks for him but "Marshall" is just soooo much better??? Brandon Marshall is a "repeat" domestic violence criminal and a crybaby. The last place he needs to come to is Miami and South Beach...Nolan was in Denver and I'm sure has clued the team in on Marshall's antics...FORGET MARSHALL he ain't coming
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 06, 2010 at 05:33 PM
kc - we led the league in rushing at various points the last two years. The only thing we need is health. We did that based on scheme, not one player. I'm not big on McClain, but i'm fairly certain he's no pat white and neither are spiller or possibly Bryant. None are undersized either.
Also, don't forget we need a NT, and last i checked williams and cody aren't Pat White either. We lost last year cause our defense couldn't stop anyone. We also couldn't generate pressure when we needed to. We let go Porter and Gebril, we need to sure those positions up moving forward. The draft is the way to go. Marshall is fools gold.

Being a slow day- I realised how wrong The Usual Suspects was. "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." Close but wrong. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing two NFL teams to pay him $24 million guaranteed. Holy Sheesh! Mando, spread the word, I'll miss passes, tackles and let Reggie Bush hurdle me in super bowl commercials all day for a quarter of that.
Posted by: Brad Weller | March 06, 2010 at 05:35 PM
KC, well I'm glad ur not the GM and Parcells is...I don't care who he plays for, as long as it is not the Dolphins
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 06, 2010 at 05:35 PM
bobby,
i agree. if nolan thought bm was wort it bm would be in miami negotiating.
Posted by: TNPhinFan | March 06, 2010 at 05:36 PM
kc and all Marshall leaners - as good as Marshall is we neutralized him last year when we played them. We have some pretty good corners in our division too. We shouldn't forsake defense, youth and growth for this guy; as good as he is.
Posted by: miamihurricane | March 06, 2010 at 05:36 PM
well bobby maybe if i was the gm you guys wouldnt still be bitchin during games about not having any weapons on the outside
Posted by: kc | March 06, 2010 at 05:40 PM
Kc, don't see me bitchen about it on these blogs...Parcells will deal with the WR issue without bringing in criminals and crybabies such as Dez Bryant and Brandon Marshall as he sees fit..
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 06, 2010 at 05:44 PM
every team has criminals and crybabys didnt we just have 3 guys on this team get arrested over the last few months or whatever and there not close to as talented as marshall lol
Posted by: kc | March 06, 2010 at 05:49 PM
Brandon Marshall is not coming KC, what part of that are u having such a hard time understanding??and there is a difference between having a guy such as Will Allen who got arrested for DUI on ur team and bringing in someone who is a already a known troublemaker and women beater...that may be ur definition of someone you want on your team but I certainly don't want him and it's obvious Parcells has no interest either
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 06, 2010 at 05:57 PM
didnt mcdaniel get arrested for domestic violence or doesnt that count because hes already on the team
Posted by: kc | March 06, 2010 at 06:00 PM
Ur right about McDaniels, and if was a free agent the Dolphins probaly wouldn't be signing him either....
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 06, 2010 at 06:02 PM
yeah im sure they didnt know anything about him and his habit of smacking women before they got him from jax hahaha too funny
Posted by: kc | March 06, 2010 at 06:05 PM
"One would assume the team is making calls on it's second wave of free agents -- assuming there are any."
I dunno, Mando. Teams making calls AFTER they sign a free agent? That is NUTSO.
"It stands to reason that as safety was a priority as soon as Antrel Rolle (the one that got away) was cut loose by Arizona, that Miami would take the next logical step toward filling that spot. The next logical step would be to check out the other available free safeties on the market."
I don't even know where to begin with this sentence. It's a trainwreck. It stands to reason you're in dire need of an editor on this blog, if not a replacement. I vote for the latter.

Marshall has a "HISTORY" of problems, two domestic violence reports, He was there when his teammate was murdered, he is a locker room disruption, he crys to the press, he is an all around diva and trouble that we don't need to fill our WR position
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 06, 2010 at 06:11 PM
U know what KC, talk to urself, Brandin Marshall isn't going to be a Dolphin and either is Dez Bryant..so if u want to continue ur time playing fake GM, be my guest, but I'm going to talk to people who want to talk about players who "might" come here in "reality"...this is a waste of time talking fantasy football with u...

I love when a guy signs his name at the end of his statement when it already shows up at the bottom of his post - nice love letter buddy
Posted by: Just Because | March 06, 2010 at 06:14 PM
ok i gotcha i know the fins arent getting marshall its just something i and a few others would like to see but hey if watching the 3 yard ins and 6 yard outs is what you like then hey thats what you got we'll just keep on watchin those field goals and hope for a wild card
Posted by: kc | March 06, 2010 at 06:15 PM
All we need is Ronnie and Ricky. We're gonna lead the league in rushing, and I'm fine with that.
Posted by: Dishpan | March 06, 2010 at 06:17 PM
Can anyone tell me how we couldn't swing any trade/draft value from the players we cut, even something minimal. Surley we should have gotten some small morsel for them.
Jeez!
Posted by: Trev | March 06, 2010 at 06:21 PM
Trev, maybe cause all three suc"ed the big one last year and no one wanted to give up picks or players for garbage???
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 06, 2010 at 06:24 PM
B12,
Are you happy with the moves the Phins have made thus far?
Posted by: Po White Trash | March 06, 2010 at 06:26 PM
Po White, yes I'm happy, they identified and got rid of the non producers and bought in the guy they really wanted in Dansby...I feel really good about the depth of our positions of needs in this draft and hopefully get another couple picks
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 06, 2010 at 06:32 PM
How bout u?? What u think??
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 06, 2010 at 06:33 PM
Yup! Feels real good!
Posted by: Po White Trash | March 06, 2010 at 06:34 PM
What's up PO??
Posted by: cuban menace | March 06, 2010 at 06:35 PM
For the 1st time in as long as I can remember it really seems like we are following a true vision or Blueprint of where the team needs to go.
Very far from the haphazard method of days past.
Posted by: Po White Trash | March 06, 2010 at 06:37 PM
Bobby, sucked - maybe but second and third on the team in tackles! Even a 7th rounder? Anything. If any of these guys sign for a few million somewhere then they are worth that eh...
Except porter who everyone knew would be cut.
Posted by: Trev | March 06, 2010 at 06:37 PM
My "Q" is now they got Karlos, who is now on radar for the 12th pick??
Posted by: cuban menace | March 06, 2010 at 06:38 PM
Happy days CM!
Like where we are heading.
Posted by: Po White Trash | March 06, 2010 at 06:38 PM
So now that we got Dansby, what position do you think we are going to target with the #12 pick? I'm saying OLB or FS...
Mike Nolan is going to get loaded up on defense and make these young stars shine!!
Posted by: Indiana Dolfan | March 06, 2010 at 06:39 PM
NT OLB or FS....
Best player available on the board.
Posted by: Po White Trash | March 06, 2010 at 06:40 PM
I know this is slightly crazy, but I think they should possibly target TO. I know Parcells and him have a history and TO is a diva. He has never caused problems in his first year. I think he would be good for Hartline and Turner, maybe even Ted Ginn. No one can argue TO has the talent, so with that combined with his experience and it could work out in our favor. It would also give our young corners practice against a really talented WR. Do we chance his diva attitude for a year???
Posted by: Indiana Dolfan | March 06, 2010 at 06:42 PM
Po White - in that order or just the best player left from either of those positions?
Posted by: Indiana Dolfan | March 06, 2010 at 06:43 PM
It all depends on what we do with Dansby, TnPhinFan posted the article in which Dansby said he is here to play ILB, but with Parcells he may have told Dansby to say that as to not tip our draft pick strategy, IDK
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 06, 2010 at 06:45 PM
MUrricane, you are correct to a point. I would never give up this years pick and I agree that we have many needs. However, if we could get him for this years 2nd or next years first, I think he changes the face of our offense immediately. This years first is way too important. I do think that Fins' offense is an elite WR and a good TE away from being very good. Our line has been solidified and our backs are alright when healthy. The holes are all on the D side of the ball. Of we can get a reciever before the draft, then we can concentrate on drafting a NT, OLB and safety. It's a deep draft so we can make it even deeper for us by getting Marshall for next years first rounder that should be later in the round. However you do make some chent points and I do agree they have many needs. I would just attack them differently.
Posted by: Jrljr2 | March 06, 2010 at 06:45 PM
No order, Best on the board available @ #12.
IMO.
If I were to guess an order, OLB NT FS.
Posted by: Po White Trash | March 06, 2010 at 06:46 PM
Ok I need to hurry up and get in what I think before NJ reads Indiana' s comment on TO and this becomes a war zone!!! LOL
Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 06, 2010 at 06:47 PM
NT PO is where the need is now IMO.....
Posted by: cuban menace | March 06, 2010 at 06:48 PM

Safe solid pick would be Williams at 12 but we will see.

CUBAN,
YOU REPRESENT EVREY THING NICE ON THIS BLOG .
Posted by: ALoco | March 06, 2010 at 06:58 PM
Agreed CM, don't know if that is were the value is at #12.
I've been called worse ALoco.
Posted by: Po White Trash | March 06, 2010 at 06:58 PM
Williams at 12 would not break my heart in the least.
Posted by: Po White Trash | March 06, 2010 at 07:00 PM
NT would make the biggest splash on the team and in the pool.
Posted by: Po White Trash | March 06, 2010 at 07:01 PM
Holy crap enough about Marshall! The guy will not be a Dolphin because there are more pressing needs that the team currently has. OLB, FS, and the NT position need to be addressed therefore the Dolphins will not be giving up the 12th pick for Marshall. Stop with the Taylor backing Wake up dream because Wake is not ready for a full time role and Taylor is still an all around better player. How do people not understand this. Just because you see the guy get to the QB doesn't mean he can pass cover and set the edge yet. HE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. There is a hell of a lot more to playing the OLB position in a 3/4 than just rushing the passer. WE NEED DEFENSE!!!!! Our offense was NOT the problem last year and they need to FIX the problem. They will keep the 1st pick and use it on a FS or an OLB. THAT'S IT, end of story, move on, stop dreaming, and GO DOLPHINS!!!!!
Posted by: Account Deleted | March 06, 2010 at 07:03 PM
PO, Nose Tackles usually make the biggest splash in any pool seeing how they average 330 pounds....lol
Posted by: cuban menace | March 06, 2010 at 07:03 PM
Jason Allen is still on the team..
Hmmmmm?
