The Dolphins finally got their free safety -- I think -- as they just drafted Georgia safety Reshad Jones.
For Jones, this draft process had to be something of a tough time because he seemed poised to be a second or third round pick and instead dropped to the bottom of the fifth round.
"[I expected to go ] two to three, but everything worked out for the best," Jones said.
Jones has strong safety size at 6-0 and 214 pounds. But he does have free safety ball skills.
"I feel I can play strong and free," he said.
The Dolphins haven't told Jones which one they want him to play.

99th?

THANKS U ITS ABOUT TIME!!!

Disappointing. It's unclear if he can return kickoffs, or if Tony Sparano is friends with his dad.

Nice value. I think it has been a very solid draft. They came in with a plan and executed their plan.
Posted by: mr1313 | April 24, 2010 at 01:38 PM
finally a pick i am very happy with. Jones is highly rated and a hard hitter. 2nd or 3rd round value. I think he can push for the starting job right away........somewhat of a steal for us
Posted by: Cavemanna | April 24, 2010 at 01:38 PM
This just might be our best pick in the draft.....a pretty good player at a pos. of need....imagine that
Posted by: Krome24s | April 24, 2010 at 01:38 PM
I cannot imagine Ross letting this pick go unpunished. The ownership must immediately contact Goodell and try to get this pick rescinded, even if legal action via an emergency injunction is required.......Parcells & Ireland simply do not have the mental and psychological caoacity to enter into any binding contracts.
How we recover from this pick is a story that will only unfold over the next ten-to-twenty years.
Posted by: The Seer | April 24, 2010 at 01:38 PM
The better FS was Chad Jones from LSU
Posted by: Stra8balla | April 24, 2010 at 01:38 PM
great pick. we only have 1 pick left?
Posted by: Beerphin | April 24, 2010 at 01:38 PM
It's great we got him in the 5ft round, he probably should have been higher
Posted by: Dantheman#13 | April 24, 2010 at 01:39 PM
To ALL my Dolphin I told you all that Reshad Jones is our free safety two weeks ago...this kid is like Ronnie lott & Mel Blunt....he is a surefire hitter. Great Great pick.
Posted by: phinsfan61 | April 24, 2010 at 01:40 PM
Great Draft!!!!! Defense needed the makeover. Add Dansby to this incoming class and we should be hard to score on.
Posted by: dolfanSF | April 24, 2010 at 01:40 PM
Now they can move Pat White to NT
Posted by: Dantheman#13 | April 24, 2010 at 01:40 PM
Armando, again you corrupt innocent minds with your football knowledge.
Rashad Jones is groomed to be the starting SS in a couple of year with Clemons at FS.
You dont draft Clemons at 165 in 2009 and Reshad Jones at 163 in 2010 and claim Jones to be the starting FS.
Reshad will be behind Bell.

Good value here. Time for flyers now?
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | April 24, 2010 at 01:40 PM
I'll admit I havent seen much or heard much about Reshad Jones, but watching his highlight reel he looks like bigtime hitter with height, size and speed. He definately has ball skills. After the interception, hes def not going to take it to the house as you can see in the video, but wow can this guy hit.
Why is he still here late in the 5th?

What does the draft mean for the 3-4?
Are we going hybrid like some are sayin?
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 24, 2010 at 01:48 PM
At least they didn't draft another DE.
Posted by: mike | April 24, 2010 at 01:49 PM

PO, Nolan uses a variety of looks and schemes to mix things up..he must be extremely happy with our defensive picks + Dansby

THE FINS NEEDS A QB NOW .
Posted by: ALoco | April 24, 2010 at 01:51 PM
Nolan Carroll will play cb to replace Nate Jones. Reshad Jones will be our starter at free safety. Liking the picks.

Grade "A" Draft for the Defense and with Jerry we got one big, physical O-line that teams are not going to enjoy playing against..I'm happy
Posted by: bobbyd12 | April 24, 2010 at 01:55 PM
I'm stoked B12.

PO, WHAT STOKED MEANS IN ENGLISH ?
Posted by: ALoco | April 24, 2010 at 01:56 PM
Check out Jones on YouTube - he's a friggin beast! Lots of options and competition ahead in the secondary in 2010. With Nolan Carroll on board, Sean Smith can always end up as FS if Clemons or Jones doesn't work out there. I can see Jones emerging as a starting SS, Smith and Carroll flip around, Clemons could be a FS. Lots of choices and this draft might end up being the BEST in recent history. Lot of versatility required for Nolan's defense and under-the-radar gems that could end up being solid starters. Feeling good overall about this one.
One question - how come none of the local media had ZERO clue what the Fins' draft board looked like? Talk about smoke-screen job that the Trifecta did on those guys. And we the fans are the victims of local media not knowing their stuff. That's why you are so disappointed, because the local beat-writers and columnists led us to believe what the Fins' board looked like based on their half-ass job of relying on Kiper's, McShay's, and Mayock's board.
All you so-called media with local "sources" - you got punked big time this year and you should be embarrassed for not getting any of the picks right essentially.

next pick RB
Posted by: Cavemanna | April 24, 2010 at 01:57 PM
Go Henne! Go Dolphins!
Posted by: Dishpan | April 24, 2010 at 01:57 PM
From the Ourlads Draft Guide....
"Our staff has never graded a safety that takes more bad angles in pursuit or in run support. Sometimes it appears that he's the best player on the other team with dropped interceptions, missed tackles and poor angles. Many of the plays he makes, he was unblocked."
This pick sounds like a complete disaster.
Then again this whole draft has been an utter disaster from round 1 so we shouldn't be surprised.
Posted by: T. Martin (Burbank, CA) | April 24, 2010 at 01:57 PM
Henne fan right here.
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 24, 2010 at 01:57 PM
Anybody even dare trying to guess the next Miami pick?
I think they should look at Anthony McCoy. Ya, he likes the ganja but his skill set is hard to ignore at TE and it's just a 7th pick.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | April 24, 2010 at 01:57 PM
Great picks.. But would like to have a stud RB , and a QB because I don't think Henne can lead!!!
Posted by: Patlew72 | April 24, 2010 at 01:57 PM
wonder if we will get Faneca for our line. Could be interesting
Posted by: finfan23 | April 24, 2010 at 01:58 PM
Its all gravy now Mark in the T!
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 24, 2010 at 01:59 PM
love Henne. He has all the tools. Marino thinks so so I can't argue
Posted by: finfan23 | April 24, 2010 at 01:59 PM
There's the S in Jones that i said yesterday miami would get in round 4 instead of 5. good tradeup !! Excellent draft !! Great job tuna and ireland. some of you need to let things play out before you go whining about how things are being handled. The starks move and now jones are perfect examples !!
Posted by: NJ PHIN FAN | April 24, 2010 at 01:59 PM
Campbell is a Raider, confirmed.
Posted by: leg5 | April 24, 2010 at 01:59 PM
The Dolphins liked Rashad Jones all along. I liked him too. Yeah, we could have drafted another safety much higher, but there was something about Jones that will stand out. Not crazy about the Carroll and Edds picks though.
Posted by: Julie | April 24, 2010 at 02:00 PM
WE NEED A QB ,RIGHT NOW WE HAVE I INJURED BADLY AND I NO GOOD IN WHITE AND THIRD CAN WORH AS A SALES MAN AND HENNE WHO'S HAVE A BIG QUESTION MARK OVER HIS HEAD .I SAY A QB.

Posted by: Beerphin | April 24, 2010 at 02:00 PM
Ok, rather than grading the draft, since none of us will know how good or bad it is for a couple years, can we talk about how exciting next year will be? On offense we've still got the Wildcat with 2 play-making RBs and a mean offensive line, plus a young QB who showed a lot of ability and potential last year paired with one of the best WRs in the game along with some pretty solid, dependable Troy Brown type guys in Hess, Hartline, and Camarillo. Would like a better TE, but oh well.
Defense: well, our young CBs showed flashes of a whole lot of promise, our linebacking corps looks much improved with Dansby and hopefully some good young rookies. Safeties are still unsettled, but Bell is pretty solid and we've just drafted 2 guys who might be able to play back there, plus maybe Smith or Allen could shift over? Still not convinced that Starks is the answer at NT, but we'll see how we do against the run and if we can generate a good pass rush.
And, the most overlooked aspect of this draft, our special teams unit must have been improved, right? We just drafted a bunch of guys who love to hit and just want to go out and work hard and do their job, and our special teams coverage was pretty poor last year.

Agree 100% NJ, like this years draft much better than last years.
