Dolphins pick S Reshad Jones in fifth round

The Dolphins finally got their free safety -- I think -- as they just drafted Georgia safety Reshad Jones.

For Jones, this draft process had to be something of a tough time because he seemed poised to be a second or third round pick and instead dropped to the bottom of the fifth round.

"[I expected to go ] two to three, but everything worked out for the best," Jones said.

Jones has strong safety size at 6-0 and 214 pounds. But he does have free safety ball skills.

"I feel I can play strong and free," he said.

The Dolphins haven't told Jones which one they want him to play.

no picks left in the 6th?

ALoco, go suprise ur girlfriend and buy her an I-Pad and show her u care...maybe she won't runaway to Costa Rica anymore

I agree, Po. Let's get that athletic TE though if he's there. WOuldn't be disappointed with Pike or Lefevour or Carlton Mitchell either. Or brandon lang.

Love the Greg hardy pick for the panthers. man they got a lot of quality for not having a 1st rounder.

I'm wondering why Dorin Dickerson and Anthony McCoy are still available they'd be huge at 212!

We need a QB? Seriously?? I think we've got a great QB lineup this year with Henne, Thigpen, and Pennington

Finally some positive and knowledgable comments. I'm very happy with this draft, they followed their plan--never mind the naysayers.

Maybe Pat white can return Kicks?

leg5, no we don't need one but i'm just looking at what's left on the draft board. after te, can't really say there are any holes to fill that can be filled here.

If we can wait until next year guys there are some great RB's coming out of college..we can get by this year with RB and RW..next year will be great for RB's...I say a TE or something now for the next pick!

Like the Pike idea. Throw it at the wall and see if it sticks, would not bode well for White though.

If there's no holes left, I expect Parcells to go after a special teamer.

Po, Pasqualoni called his D a 3-4 hybrid but it really wasn't. Bobbty12 is right, Nolan will use a lot of looks. Remember what the jets did last year? Bringing people up, dropping them back, confusing offenses. I'm thinking maybe even 1-5-5 sometimes. But the big tip off is bringing Starks as NT. The term is shade the nose. Lined up at the edge of O-guard. Which is used in a hybrid 4-3.

Next year could be Skilled Offensive position draft.

Dorin Dickerson 6'4 ran a 4.40 benched 400+ lbs. a beast and did really well in college some sick highlights they need to take this guy

That's why I've been saying we shouldn't worry about what "position" these guys play. Nolan just wants football players, and he'll probably move them around. Parcells has set out to draft guys who are versatile, willing to move around, and seem to want to work hard. I like it; now we'll see if it works.

Thanks Joe.

Special teamer is a possibility too John. But Nolan Carrol has awesome speed. He might be a nice versatile pick. Sparano doesn't like those guys that just return kicks with no position.

Carlton Mitchell gone, nice stab Cleveland.

Does anyone think pennigton should start this season?

Tennessee drafts QB Rusty Trombone

Look for DE/OLB George Selvie or Brandon Lang in 7th, if they're still around when Miami picks.

Sorry, I meant more special teams coverage.

Miamifins09...thks for visiting, have a nice day

Pennington start? Come in man, be serious

Does anyone think pennigton should start this season?

Here's Mike Mayock's take: "The Dolphins continue to upgrade their secondary. There was a lot of talk about taking a free safety in the first round, but they just nabbed Reshad Jones late in the fifth round. This kid had 11 career INTs, he's an explosive hitter with good ball skills. My concern with him is that he misses too many tackles looking for the big hit. I don't trust his instincts in the deep half of the field."

I think we stick with who we have at TE this year. Vernon Davis is an UFA next year and has already said he wants to play with his brother. But who knows we shall see. I also think we still sign a FA free safety just to give our young guys some time to mature and get some expierience.

Well if henne wouldn't turn the ball over so much, i would have more confidence in him.

Reshad Jones sounds a lot like Taylor Mays.

John, by your theory, Lindsey Witten, UConn would be a contender.

Now we need a TE or pick up Blount for a RB, although he may need a "life coach"

The Dolphins need a RB like:

LeGarrette Blount

God Bless....

I agree, or Roy Williams, formerly of the Cowboys, who routinely got burned in coverage. Reshad is good value in the late 5th where Miami got him, but I would feel more comfortable with Earl Thomas with some of the AFC passing offenses we face.

TNphinfan , the 3-4 hybrid will have some more 4-3 looks to it and the NT won't be lined up directly over the center. The NT will be lined up /angled to either side of the center. The other DL will also asked to penetrate more from angles and stunts which play to odricks , langford and merlings strengths. I hope that helps. :)

I don't pretend to know enough about the college game to come up with any possibilities, but I figure Parcells really likes getting late round guys that will give 100% on special teams. If this Lindsey Witten guy fits the bill, he's as good a guess as any.

Those are all NOLAN trademarks

Excellent pick...kid is a ball-hawk who is very underrated.

If those two TE are available in 7th rd 212 i think u have to take a chance on one of them they could both potentially be stars Anthony McCoy USC/ Dorin Dickerson PITT

De nada Po. It's been said before and I quite agree, bringing Nolan in was the best thing they've done for the D. Can't prove it but I think they actually listen to the guy.

Miamifins09, that's what rookie QBs do while learning, turn the ball over...Henne no different

Good info NJ.

Passing on Cam really bothered me.

Exactly, I've been trying to tell people for a while that Mays is a Roy Williams clone.

I don't have as much problem putting a Mays/Jones guy in as a SS. But as the last line of defense, a position that constantly got burned for 50 yard plus TDs last year? I want a guy with solid fundamentals, not someone who only goes for highlight reel hits.

Thanks NJ.

Still can't believe Cam Thomas and Ricky Sapp dropped to the fifth....

San Diego got great value with Cam pick

Blount looks like a beast.

Also, can't help but notice as we start getting into the rounds no one cares about, all the "Fire Bill PArcells, worst draft ever, I hate the Dolphins" posts are disappearing. I guess only the true fans are the ones remaining for such "inconsequential" picks.

Not to say we're all homers or fanboys, though. But the disagreement seems to be much more reasonable and intelligent.

Watch out Joe, think I might see a Kool-aid mustache. LOL

dude reshad jones looks like a poor mans eric berry in those youtube highlights lol he seems like a decent pick that has swagger. he knows hot to hit. hes fast and knows where to be at the right time......lets see how these picks pan out on the field with pads. In the trifecta i trust!!!! support these boyz they know alot of things we may not know as far as scouting and evaluating players for our system and culture.

No more softees like ginn on this team!!! we need dudes to come in with toughness and willingness to be coached and still grow at the same time. Go Phins!!!!

Mando, what is the latest news on Ronnie Rehab?

He's had a whole year to learn from one of the most accurate QBs in the game in pennington. It's just hard going through qbs almost every year. I say we resign Fiedler off the streets from his hotdog stand bahahahaha

Damn it's 2:20.....gone to the beach.

I think Smiley would be worth a 6th rd pick atleast maybe early 7th

Remember some of these picks grade out high academically. Nothing like a brainy athletically gifted high motor guy who is coachable. That's how I see this draft. I like it!!!

Glad to help guys.

Het Guys, We are drafting my buddy Jarrett Brown in the 7th.

Yeah Reshad is great value for the fifth...

Think he more of SS than a FS though.. works though because we need a backup for Bell, who isn't getting any younger.......

Just finished catching up on all the posts; I thought I was listening to my 5 year old daughter the way some of these so called fans were whining because they didn't get their pick.

People listen to the talking heads and read information on the most popular picks and think they know more than those who actually get paid to do this; if those guys on tv knew as much as they pretend some team would have hired them to evaluate talent and be paying them millions of dollars but they aren't so you get what you pay for when you listen to them.

so to all you whiners left on this board go to your room and don't come out til you learn how to act like grown folks.
