The Dolphins have selected defensive back Nolan Carroll with their fifth-round pick -- the one they got from San Francisco for Ted Ginn.
Carroll is 6-0 and 204 so he has the size to play safety, if that's what the Dolphins wish to do with him. But that would make him more of a position nomad than he has been so far.
Carroll played wide receiver before he moved to cornerback.
Carroll broke his right leg (tibia and fibia) the second game of the season in 2009 and didn't play thereafter. It happened on a running play in which he was supporting the run-defense. It was, ironically,
Carroll just said the Dolphins told him they want him to "come in and compete at corner." He also said he's played safety "some."
"If they want me to do that I'll do that," he said.
Carroll also returned kicks his freshman and sophomore years in college.

Dude the Trifecta is full of nothing but freakin idiots!!!!!!!!!!! They let Cam Thomas probably a future pro bowler go to San Diego for some no name CB a position we are not even hurting in!!!!!!!!!! Stupid!!!!!!!!!! This whole draft has been a waste of my time hoping that Miami would make some sense in this draft. Wrong!!!!!!!!! I just watched New England and New York get drastically better while we got worse. Bull S***!!! Parcells, Ireland, and Sparano need to go somewhere else tired of them big time!!!!!!!!!!!!

So to whoever said to YouTube Carroll, I can't find anything on him..
Posted by: Dolfan484 | April 24, 2010 at 12:58 PM
I think the Fins plan to move Will Allen to FS. He is starting to age and it would be a great way to extend his career. It would only be helpful to the two young CBs. This 5 pick would compete with Culver for the nickel spot

But the last regime didn't make these picks moron. This regime has done well in this area, it is a noted strength of theirs. Maybe this guy would have been a first round pick had he not broken his leg, none of us have any idea. You are also forgetting that we already have a prototypical safety (Sean Smith) on the roster. If we have depth at corner that would allow Smith to slide to safety, therefore putting our 4 best defensive backs on the field at thesame time. We got a starting DE (which allows our best defensive lineman to move into a position he is built for now), two guys to compete at OLB, a potential starting guard (worst case depth at a position where injuries always occur), and either a nickel back or safety. Oh, and we got BRANDON MARSHALL!!!

A bad draft really how do you know already. True Dol-Fan commented on 'Dolphins select DB Nolan Carroll with No. 145'

I just dont know what to say. this draft has been RIDICULOUS. As a TRUE fan who has had my heart broken over and over, i see that the difference between us and teams like the saints is PLAYMAKERS! I thanked God for brandon marshall, but he gonna get double and triple teamed. Where is the SPEED that we so desperately need on offense???

41 inch vertical jump !!!!

Posted by: Brian R | April 24, 2010 at 01:00 PM
go eff yourself mr1313...some of us prefer taking "THE BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE",,,you were probably fine with the tedd ginn, john beck picks to...
Posted by: Rob NOVA | April 24, 2010 at 01:00 PM
The Patriots and Jets are kicking our ass. What do you expect from a mediocre front office. Why would anybody believe in the trifecta. What have they ever done to make someone believe that had the experience and qualifications to do this job. Three people in jobs they have never done before. At best 6-10 next year but probably more like 4-12. It's another SAD DAY FOR MIAMI.

Is this blog working?
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 24, 2010 at 01:00 PM
OK I am sure I feel just liek many of you out there...I am not even going to say anything because I know nothing about these players picked but based on what I read EVERY ONE of our picks except for maybe John Jerry was a reach and all the players chosen could have been picked later. I am very disappointed we skipped on a TE with so many out there, Dickson and Pitta going to rivals? Ughhh. We could have had Joe McNight to return kicks and develop as a change of pace guy in the backfield and Cam Thomas to groom but we picked a slow LB and a db who played receiver and was hurt...hmmm, what's wrong with this picture??? Not quite Al Davisesque but close.

You guys are the worst fans ever, i am out of here, tired of reading this so call fans
Posted by: Jaleado | April 24, 2010 at 01:00 PM
my best guess at next pick is RB Johathon Dwyer from GT. Need a RB. Ronnie, Cobbs injured. Ricky old and cannot carry a 16 game load. Dyer was a tripple option RB in GT and which would translate to a wildcat type back.

Do you something irland doesn't know?
Posted by: Supermike13 | April 24, 2010 at 01:00 PM
the homers will think that this guy is great
the homers last year also though pat white and pat turner were great picks too
Posted by: test | April 24, 2010 at 01:00 PM
Brian, your statement is the reason why you are at home watching this draft instead of making personnel decisions.
Posted by: So. Cal. Fins Fan | April 24, 2010 at 01:01 PM
draft lacks sizzle for sure, but big names don't always pan out, I remember thinking who the **** is Jason Taylor from Akron. I think I see where they're going with this, gotta start up front like the Steelers

Seer Lol@ 12:52.
Whats done is done, It doesn't matter if we like the pick or not. This is our guy. It does raise a few questions about players we passed on, if the reason was health related. But I want some info on this guy. The only thing I've found is that he has been hurt more then healthy the last two years. Someone please shed some light!
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | April 24, 2010 at 01:01 PM
Carroll rated as 35th best cornerback out there. Good news
Plus, we have such a need at cornerback we had to have him.
He's gonna shut it down out there

Im tired of these people questioning us as fans just because we're upset. TRUE FANS are passionate about there team regardless f the situation. Yea I have my opinion of what we should have done, but regardless im still going to be at every home game rain or sunshine. So just because you agree with everything, doesnt make you any better fans then the rest of us...

Carroll got good write ups everywhere I surfed
in other words, relax.

I like the Jones pickup
Posted by: Rob NOVA | April 24, 2010 at 01:28 PM
Projected to go in rnd 2 or 3.
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 24, 2010 at 01:28 PM
Jones may be more of a SS than a FS. Good player from GA. Good Pick
Posted by: TNPhinFan | April 24, 2010 at 01:29 PM
Guys if this guy can return kicks and be effective it will be a good pick. We currently dont have anyone that can scare anyone on the returns. Does anyone know anything more about him returning kicks and punts??
Posted by: ray | April 24, 2010 at 01:29 PM
We traded our 6th round pick to get Jones. Now we don't have a 6th rounder. We have 2 7 round picks left. Not bad.
Posted by: FB | April 24, 2010 at 01:29 PM
I wonder why Jones slipped so far. Anyway good for us. A lot of you had Jones going in the third, even some in the second. This should make a lot of people happy here.
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | April 24, 2010 at 01:30 PM
Well we made a couple of moves to move up.
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 24, 2010 at 01:30 PM
Lol @ Cam
Posted by: Dolfan484 | April 24, 2010 at 01:31 PM
looks like we gave our 6th and a 7th
Posted by: TNPhinFan | April 24, 2010 at 01:31 PM
Not one Offensive player. Gotta love it.
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 24, 2010 at 01:32 PM
Reshad Jones may be more of a SS then FS, but its not like yeremiah bell is getting any younger. Maybe he becomes a great replacement after a couple of years if he doesn't develope into a FS
Posted by: Chase | April 24, 2010 at 01:32 PM
That pick brought up our draft grade. IMO.
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 24, 2010 at 01:33 PM
We went from having 3 6 round picks and 3 7th rounders to 0 in the 6th and 2 in the 7th. Call it what you want. I don't mind getting Dwyer in the 7th if he's still available. I doubt it though.
Maybe we can give away our 8th rounders to move up to the 6th again.
Hahaha
Posted by: FB | April 24, 2010 at 01:33 PM
Has Myron Rolle been picked yet?
Posted by: swamysez | April 24, 2010 at 01:33 PM
I'm a little surprised they left Cam Thomas sitting on the board there. They must really be committed to this whole moving Randy Starks thing...
Posted by: paPhinsPhan | April 24, 2010 at 01:34 PM
To ALL my Dolphin I told you all that Reshad Jones is our free safety two weeks ago...this kid is like Ronnie lott & Mel Blunt....he is a surefire hitter. Great Great pick.
Posted by: phinsfan61 | April 24, 2010 at 01:34 PM
I like the jones pick, but I would have prefered Robert Johnson from Utah. Unfortunately the team figured that the nickle position was more important than fs so they missed on him, and settled for Reshard Jones. He's a solid player though. Maybe not as explosive, but he'll fill the spot. Don't be surprised if they team makes a move for atogwe or sharper.
Posted by: TheFreakinRican | April 24, 2010 at 01:34 PM
Yeah, but somebody who b i t c h e s and moans all the time is exactly that, a b i t c h. And that is all some fans do.
Posted by: Doof | April 24, 2010 at 01:34 PM

Just curious how many of you actually make a living at football, or have ever picked a player at this level.
Posted by: mntmanfinfan | April 24, 2010 at 01:36 PM
Sorry to all the folks that don't like our draft so far but it is looking real solid to me. SOLID!
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 24, 2010 at 01:36 PM
Jones, really suprised he fell so far but now we got some good competition in camp for that FS spot
Posted by: bobbyd12 | April 24, 2010 at 01:37 PM
Sorry, thinking skill position O.
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 24, 2010 at 01:37 PM
Reshad Jones is my favorite pick BY FAR!!!!!! He is a monster/beast, a tackling machine, and will lay you out flat if you roam anywhere in his vicinity. GREAT GREAT pick.
Posted by: FB | April 24, 2010 at 01:38 PM
No TE RB WR and so on.
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 24, 2010 at 01:38 PM
Carroll is a chance with his injury history, but a very solid tackler with good instincts..
