Dolphins select Utah OLB Koa Misi

Koa Misi is Miami's second round pick in the 2010 NFL draft.

That obviously fills a need. The Dolphins had only Cameron Wake, Charlie Anderson, Erik Walden and Quentin Moses on the roster. Anderson is a career backup. Wake is unproven. The other two are backups.

Misi has a chance to come in and start and, well, that's the point.

Misi is 6-3 and 250. He comes from the same program that produced cornerback Sean Smith. The Dolphins like that program. Misi had five sacks and 9.5 tackles for losses among his 71 total stops in 2009.

Misi played mostly as a DE at Utah. But he's not worried about moving to OLB.

"I didn't play too much but I played three or four games at linebacker this past year and a couple games the year before that," Misi said. "I feel pretty comfortable at the linebacker position."

And what about dropping into coverage?

"Great! I feel comforable with dropping into coverage," he said.

How does Misi describe himself?

"I'm a hard worker. I like to learn and I'm very coachable. I listen very well and play even harder. This is my dream and I'm finally here. I'm ready to play."

Misi is of Tongan descent.

Misi's father often attended Koa's games. One time, the player said, his dad wanted him to get more motivated so he came onto the field and head-butted Misi. Misi was wearing a helmet at the time.

His full name, by the way, is Nawa'akoa Lisiate Foti Analseanoa Misi.

Wow Ray looked like the great pumpkin where was Charlie brown??

Update us on the trade! I hear we traded the 5th rounder we got for Ginn!

His full name, by the way, is Nawa'akoa Lisiate Foti Analseanoa Misi.

Misi's full name is
Nawa'akoa Lisiate Foti Analeseanoa Misi

Kindle and Misi are both 6'3" 250.

What's all this trade talk about? Carlito your on the money. Misi-Seau!! Like the pick

Can we sign his dad up, too?

Thanks for the full name mando!!! I'll order the jersey, but they better not charge per letter

Are we still drafting samoans? IM THE JUGGERNAUT BEEEACH!

The Merling rumour is just the brain fart of a sadsack. No-ne would ever give a 2nd for Merling. Not the best draft so far, but not the worst. Inside LB will be Dobbins most likely, Lil Misi, will be starting Sam lb. Go FS next round please.

Joseph to the Gmen

good lord, NE trades down again, picking up more drafts picks.

Maybe he can teach Soliai, the big lazy pineapple how to be a true island warrior

is armando on the lamb again?

Mando u can't like this draft right? If we were going to do this why not just take Brandon Graham at 12? Everyone admits he's a game changer.

Cards trade pick they received for Boldin

Odrick and Misi , 2 tough , high motor FOOTBALL player that can be lined up all over the field. Nolan is going to have a Field day with them. I love it. 2 more pieces in S and NT to go. Master plan !!

Atogwe will be the starting FS for the Fins. We won't see that until June 1 though. He is better than any of the draft options and proven at the NFL level.

Misi didn't play much LB in college but played it at the Senior Bowl -- right in front of the Miami coaching staff's eyes.

I won't be able to say or spell his name but I will root like hell if he sacks the QB or causes a couple of fumbles!

Misi is a beast - a lot better than Kindle. He will start immediately. If you combined John offerdahl and Zack Thomas into one person his name would be Koa Misi. This is a great pick.

I feel that we can no longer free safety with what will be available. Which may have been a good thing because our secondary is way to green. We still need a wr and te.

I'm out for a while guys.....try and keep the whining and complaining to a minimum!

I can't believe they passed on Kindle for this guy..Kindle is a stud, and was passed b/c he MIGHT need knee surgery LATER in his career..what NFL player doesn't....Misi had a measly 5 sacks in the Mountain West...good luck to him anyway...

How many of you believe that Misi will have a better season than Jason Taylor in 2010?

new england is getting on my nerves
they get twice as many picks as anyone else
they must cheat

Whoa whoa Whoa Bobby! If he is half those players! We got a steal. I am not ready to compare him offerdahl or zach.

I agree with AK FinFan, I think a lot of people are forgetting atogwe is still out there. Doesn't he become a unrestricted free agent after June 1?

04/16/2010 - Five mock-busters who could make the 1st Round: OLB Koa Misi, Utah: Roughly half of the NFL is now planning on operating primarily out of the 3-4 alignment. That fact makes established pass rushers like Misi ones to watch on draft day. Possessing an explosive first step as a defensive end for the Utes, the 6-3, 251 pound Misi impressed scouts in linebacker drills in workouts. Both he and Virginia Tech's Jason Worilds are viewed as locks for the second round, but an early run on the position could push either into the first round. - Rob Rang, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com

Surprised Golden Tate isn't off the board yet, wonder if we pick him if he is still in the 3rd round? I was only kidding about being the Jets fan, I would never sink that low. Just frustrated we didn't get Daryl Washington, and upset we didn't get a faster LB. I hope we at least get a FS before I take the axe out and start chopping my limbs off.

I believe Misi will do better than Taylor!! He may not have the same talent or experience, but he is hella more hungry!!

That's not a fair question. He is a rookie, he bound to make mistakes. JT has 13 yrs experience on the kid. Guess we'll wait and see.

OK Mando,
So far are you liking this draft. You have vanished alot, so are you concerned about these picks.

Armando you must be drinking with that question

It'll be interesting to see what Sean Smith thinks of Koa Misi.

Misi will not have a bigger year than Taylor.

Not a chance in hell.

Mandi if Misi get equal playing time them I say yes he will have a better year than JT. He has done nothing outside Miami.

Armando, if he starts, he'll have a better statistical year. Taylor's 2010 campaign shouldn't be too stellar in a limited role.

JImmy Clausen to the Panthers...

Will Misi have a better season than JT? for me not better but equivalent one is rookie and the other is in declive.

I want Misi to KO dirty Sanchez

What do you think the Fins going to take a hard run at Atogwe and not take a FS this draft???

Finfan, Misi WILL KO dirty sanchez

He'll Misi all over sanchez

im tired of hearing about parcells type hard worker blur=e collar guys. Ya I want the flashy pick. I want the best rated lb available when we pick. The reason why the other guy is flashy is because he makes plays, a playmaker. Ya i think id rather have a playmaker than a blue collared hard worker. Didnt we just go through this the last couple of years with the WR position? And what was the end result?

damn, there goes taylor mays. I think we could've really used him.

Man we need to make. Move. Too Many good players left. When is our third rounder? We need splosion on offense. Can we please draft someone who outrun a db? Can we plz hurry up get a FS? Can we plz get some playmakers? Please.

We are going to have some serious depth on defense before this draft is over. Picked up a d lineman and 2 lb's so far. (dobbins)

I'm gonna go scout Sean Smith's Twitter...if he's (a) awake or (b) not bowling on-line, he'll have a comment, I'm pretty sure.

Yes Mays is gone!

Thank GOD!

Who cares if Misi takes out Sanchito, we are better off with that INT machine in the game. Now Brady on the other hand... HEHEHEHE

While Miami is developing Misi for the future, the Jets will soon be looking to replace an aging egomaniac.

Clausen was written by some to go as early as 4th and he goes 48th. That´s a fall.

Mays to niners

Can someone confirm the Avril trade for a 5th rdr from Detroit? Mando?
