Koa Misi is Miami's second round pick in the 2010 NFL draft.
That obviously fills a need. The Dolphins had only Cameron Wake, Charlie Anderson, Erik Walden and Quentin Moses on the roster. Anderson is a career backup. Wake is unproven. The other two are backups.
Misi has a chance to come in and start and, well, that's the point.
Misi is 6-3 and 250. He comes from the same program that produced cornerback Sean Smith. The Dolphins like that program. Misi had five sacks and 9.5 tackles for losses among his 71 total stops in 2009.
Misi played mostly as a DE at Utah. But he's not worried about moving to OLB.
"I didn't play too much but I played three or four games at linebacker this past year and a couple games the year before that," Misi said. "I feel pretty comfortable at the linebacker position."
And what about dropping into coverage?
"Great! I feel comforable with dropping into coverage," he said.
How does Misi describe himself?
"I'm a hard worker. I like to learn and I'm very coachable. I listen very well and play even harder. This is my dream and I'm finally here. I'm ready to play."
Misi is of Tongan descent.
Misi's father often attended Koa's games. One time, the player said, his dad wanted him to get more motivated so he came onto the field and head-butted Misi. Misi was wearing a helmet at the time.
His full name, by the way, is Nawa'akoa Lisiate Foti Analseanoa Misi.

By the way, there are rumors of Merling being traded to the Pats. Sounds like bad information to me.
I cannot see the Dolphins trading inside the division.

I've seen Misi Play(bunch of lunatic mormons who watch the Utes in my town) Seen him play live as well. He wasn't playing Lb, so hard to judge. He seemed to get pushed up the field out of the play. The positive about this pick, and I'm sure the trifecta knows this and this is written by Joe Collier. Undersized college De's are perfect for weak side rush Olb's in the 3-4 scheme.

No way is this guy tiny! Ray Lewis is 6'1" and 250 and he AIN'T tiny!!!

I'll say it again...this draft is way DEEP!!!

Wikipedia now says Cliff Avril is a Detroit Lion.
It appears Miami traded a 5th rounder for Avril, then traded him back for a 7th rounder in next year's draft.

misi scouting report
we're gonna go on the fact they are wrong.
ok? thanks
"Is not overly physical. Thin and under-developed. Lacks bulk to hold his ground against offensive linemen on run blocks. Does not move through traffic particularly well. Misses too many open field tackles. Has a bad habit of stopping in mid play. Is raw and does not read passing plays well. Despite production, he is not a playmaker.
Misi is a better football player than a pure athlete. He does have some upside as an OLB, but needs to bulk up in order to make a difference. He is a nice fourth or fifth round value who could be over-drafted due to the weakness of this year's OLB/DE class."

Good !!! Go back to sleep Allen, your done. Make you up when we make the playoffs and your sadsack is trying to crawl up on the banwagon, with all the other crying lil B1tches.
Posted by: The Boz | April 23, 2010 at 07:40 PM
FB , mays is terrible in coverage and might be better suited for ss or lb. Misi is a Real Good football player . You're only going by names you heard on TV, there's more to just household names, my friend.

Great pick!
Posted by: Bz | April 23, 2010 at 07:40 PM
Armando,
The correct question or answer to your speculation of JT vs. Misi, is...I think Misi will have a better rookie year than JT's rookie year.
I see Misi as being further along in his development right now than when Taylor was coming out of Akron.

Posted by: paPhinsPhan | April 23, 2010 at 07:44 PM
Misi will play 2 downs for JT's 1... Overall, he'll have a better year.

I'm not bashing the pick, but I don't understand why is it that the Phins always have to go for the guys nobody has on the boards? Can't we for once go for someody that is a normal, well known commodity?

Posted by: Robbyhenz | April 23, 2010 at 07:46 PM
Gary, Misi was on the lips of many teams before this round began. He's a guy several 3-4 teams valued.

Ok I am going to show my ignorance of college players. Does anyone on here know anything about Morgan Burnett the saftey out of Ga tech? Might he be a fit for the Dolphins at some point in the draft and if so where do people think?

the bengals shoulda drafted the girl roethlisberger raped, so then ben would run out on the feild with lil ben hangin out and... well probly get ejected.

Scott, the Dolphins traded the 43rd pick to Denver two weeks ago. They got the 40th picks from San Diego yesterday.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | April 23, 2010 at 07:48 PM

NJ, my friend, nice to talk to you again. I watch a lot of football, pros and college. I've seen kindle and cody make a great deal of plays. I'm not too sure about Mays, but I know that we have a good chance of getting Wright in the 3rd to address a need. Anyway, I hope I'm wrong about Misi. I don't know too much about him.
Posted by: FB | April 23, 2010 at 07:48 PM

Posted by: San Antonio Phin Fan | April 23, 2010 at 07:49 PM
All of you keep saying "POOR DRAFT" Look who is running it for peed sake!!!!!!!! Why should this year be any diffrent than the past two??????? I really liked the S from Texas. I bet trifecta was betting Dan Williams fell to 28. He almost did.
Expect another 4-12 to 6-10 season while the hated JETS win the division and maybe superbowl. I hate to say it even think of the damm Jets in Superbowl but they have a much better front office than we do and until that changes more of the same. Maybe in the 3rd we get a DE with a free agent grade who is another tweener who ESPN says can play NT

You're alright in my book CM. 8>)
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 23, 2010 at 07:52 PM
Mando, well I'd be shocked if a rookie can outplay a 13yr former Pro Bowl vet, so with that JT would be better this year with equal playing time, but probably not a lot better due to JT's age and shoulder/back issues.
JT is down to being effective as just a situational player in his final year/s..IMO.
Misi should be our 3 down anchor at OLB now, I dodn't think JT could do that for another 16+ games for Miami.
I like the move of life after JT!
