The night just got longer for the Dolphins. And their quiver of arrows to use in this draft just got more full.
They have traded the No. 12 overall selection in the first round to San Diego for No. 28 overall. The Dolphins also gave up their fourth round pick (110 overall) and a sixth round pick (173 overall).
The Dolphins got the San Diego second-round pick, No. 40 overall, and a fourth round pick (126 overall). There is also a rumor, unconfirmed, the Dolphins got linebacker Tim Dobbins.
Dobbins is now oficially confirmed as coming to the Dolphins.
The Chargers used the pick to select RB Ryan Mathews of Fresno State.
Miami's pick will now come around 10:30 p.m.
The Dolphins have a total of 10 picks now in this draft. As I wrote today, this helps Miami pick up not one starter in a deep draft, but two starters in a deep draft.
I like it!

Nobody really knows the trade.

Iupati is gone.
Posted by: paPhinsPhan | April 22, 2010 at 09:23 PM
I agree San Antonio, wanted Thomas, but maybe/perhaps the Tuna knows more than I
Posted by: Robbyhenz | April 22, 2010 at 09:23 PM
NJ, he was drafted by a 4-3 team. It doesn't validate your argument at all.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | April 22, 2010 at 09:23 PM
don't forget we ALSO lost room in the 4th to the end of the round.
Compare Denver's 2 trades of the 11th pick. They got 2 3rd rounders and 4th rounder and still pick ahead of us.
Posted by: bobbyd12 | April 22, 2010 at 09:24 PM
Armando, is weatherspoon a possibility?
Posted by: Mark | April 22, 2010 at 09:24 PM
One of the problems with trading down 16 flippin spots is that maybe just maybe the group of players you target just might all be GONE
Posted by: Krome24s | April 22, 2010 at 09:24 PM
Why give up our 4th which was higher?? But overall it was great move...Dobbins is a backup, don't know anything about him. Does anyone have any input?
Posted by: Rob | April 22, 2010 at 09:24 PM

Posted by: NJ PHIN FAN | April 22, 2010 at 09:25 PM
I hear a bunch of folks really not getting it here. For Miami to recoup that Second rounder for a total of sliding back 16 spots is phenomenal... that is like saying we got Marshall for 16 draft spots in this years draft and ? in next... we have way to many holes and this draft is far too deep to get hung up on one player. Without this trade...Miami was waiting until the 3rd late tomorrow night to pick after their 12 pick... not good for us.
Posted by: Ask Bill Ruger | April 22, 2010 at 09:25 PM
Mando knows what hes talking about. He predicted Pat White.
Posted by: Palm Beach Fin Fan | April 22, 2010 at 09:25 PM

The blog on the Dolphins website says that we got #28, #40 AND A FOURTH ROUND PICK (plus Dobbins). So why are you all saying that it was a swap of 4th round picks? Please explain.
Posted by: jax327 | April 22, 2010 at 09:25 PM
We made a great trade, Parcells knows that the guys is the top 25 are over hyped and command high salaries. With guys in the late 1st round/2nd round sends and is consistent with our message wich is EVERY one competes for their job. Parcells doesnt want overrated kids coming in expecting starting jobs. This is already one of our best drafts when you look at the entirty including the Marshall Trade! Go MIAMI!

Mando,
I think the trifecta will still make another move in this round. Two or three spots only. Of the picks you mentioned I like IUPATI then D. Williams, then Kindle.
Sorry IUPATI WAS JUST PICKED, DAMN IT!

Stop your bellyaching the whole world suggested Miami trade down to receive a second round pick. You're idiots if you think this is a bad move. I'll trust the experts on this one

Guys, CNNSI and ProFootballTalk.com are just now reporting that Dolphins have TRADED the 28th pick, the new 2nd round pick, Dan Carpenter and Dolfan Denny to THE BEARS for anti-ugly cream for Brandon Fields. THANK GOD HE IS THE UGLIEST PLAYER IN THE NFL OMFG

If Hughes is taken before us I'll be pissed. I don't think we got the value we should have. I don't want Kindle, Mays or Tebow.
Posted by: Steve in Atl. | April 22, 2010 at 09:29 PM
So basically we got Brandon Marshall for next years 2nd pick...Not bad!!!!

Posted by: DC Dolfan | April 22, 2010 at 09:30 PM
THERE'S SO MUCH BUST LEFT GUYS .
Posted by: ALoco | April 22, 2010 at 09:30 PM
What's up guys?!! Great, great trade.
I wonder if that trade happens without the media rumors of the Dolphins liking Ryan Mathews. Peter King had him going to the Phins in his mock, and Armando also wrote that the Phins were interested in Mathews. I think the media had a role in this trade.
Posted by: Fake GM | April 22, 2010 at 09:30 PM
You really think Tate and D. Thomas are still going to be there at 28 better yet at 40. Gresham will be a bengal....would have been a great pick for us...he would start from day 1
Posted by: Stra8balla | April 22, 2010 at 09:30 PM
Careful regulars... the trolls have invaded the site...... They have already hijacked several names and made bogus posts... To bad some folks are just that damn shallow.
