Just arrived at Dolphins camp and this is what I'm hearing at this hour.
Yes, the Dolphins want to trade down. This surprises you? I wrote a column about the possibility in today's Herald and tweeted about it 20 hours ago. Big whoop.
The national networks are breathlessly reporting the Dolphins want to trade back. I would tell you to keep in mind that to trade back, you have to have a partner. Among the teams everyone knows are trying to trade up are Dallas, Philadelphia, Green Bay, and the Giants.
I hear the Chargers are also trying to trade up, but they are offering players as chips to make that deal, not necessarily draft picks. Short of Antonio Gates or Vincent Jackson, I have a hard time believing the Dolphins would go there with the Chargers. I know Bill Parcells was not in the past a huge Shawne Merriman guy.
Part of any Dolphins trade scenario today and beyond could include Justin Smiley or Ronnie Brown or one of the quarterbacks as part of the deal.
And what happens if the Dolphins drop?
I'm narrowing my list of favorite players to be picked to five if the Dolphins trade: Michigan's Brandon Graham, Penn State's Jared Odrick, Georgia Tech's Demaryius Thomas, Fresno State's Ryan Mathews and Boise State's Kyle Wilson.
For the wider list of players on the radar, check out this post on my blog from last night.
That's it for now. I'll be in and out of the blog between now and 7:30 p.m., when I'll start blogging live. Get it!

Earl isn't among your favs Mando?????

Mandito, arent you thrilled the day has arrived?
Posted by: Waterboy | April 22, 2010 at 04:46 PM
Jed,
You are ____________ (insert insult here). Parcells and Ireland have been excellent drafting, with the one exception on Pat White... The draft is their strength... its what they do
Posted by: carlito from golfito | April 22, 2010 at 04:49 PM
I personally love Earl Thomas. I don't know if he'll be there late if the Dolphins trade down. That's my point.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | April 22, 2010 at 04:51 PM
Mando, that is an interesting top 5. Pretty original
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | April 22, 2010 at 04:51 PM
Are your top 5 a trade down scenario top 5 or overall?
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | April 22, 2010 at 04:52 PM
Mando, what happens if Ronnie doesn't sign his tender?
Posted by: Dolfan | April 22, 2010 at 04:52 PM
Would a trade with the Giants get us a second rounder? It's only 3 slots. Ideally, pull that trade off and then trade down again with either Philly or Dallas to stockpile even more picks. I know this probably isn't going to happen but then they'd have maybe 4 picks in the first 4 rounds. Not too shabby.
Posted by: FinFanRod | April 22, 2010 at 04:54 PM
Trade down.
Posted by: Scooter | April 22, 2010 at 04:55 PM
Mark, the Dolphins love those guys in a trade down scenario.
Wouldn't it be CRAZY if the Dolphins add another WR?
The guy that has been yelling for WRs would yell with glee!
Posted by: Armando Salguero | April 22, 2010 at 04:55 PM
Hahaha, I accused you Mando of being WR obsessed over a year ago. You still are even though we got one of the best (although flaky) WRs out there.
I like Jerry Hughes and Sean Weatherspoon in a trade down myself.
Any chance Spiller is the pick at 12?
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | April 22, 2010 at 04:56 PM
He is my Ted Ginn JR response inducers
Spiller
Dez Byrant
Iupati
Any TE
Major Wright

Check back later.... Good Luck to the Fins!!!!!!
Posted by: Waterboy | April 22, 2010 at 04:58 PM
Though Iam sure the Phins will pick all Defense in there 1st 3 picks, C.J. Spiller is very exciting to watch, the man seems to have no fear driving for extra yards,He's almost the anti-Ginn. and is a great return man(Ask any cane fan) I would not be disappointed to hear his name as a dolphin pick.........
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 22, 2010 at 04:59 PM
If Ronnie don't sign we cannot trade him, that simple unfortunatly
Posted by: Manuel | April 22, 2010 at 04:59 PM
Mark, is Weatherspoon a 3-4 LB? I think he's a 4-3 OLB.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | April 22, 2010 at 05:00 PM
Armando, I thought you LOVED Brandon Graham...gotta choose ur man and stick with him....that don't sound right but u know what I mean
Posted by: bobbyd12 | April 22, 2010 at 05:00 PM
I love Brandon Graham. I believe he'll be a very, very good player for years. He also gets it.
I have him on the list.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | April 22, 2010 at 05:01 PM
If Thomas is gone, then trade down!! Then, trade down again! 2nd rd is loaded with talent.. But Thomas is too much of a game changer...
Posted by: Robbyhenz | April 22, 2010 at 05:01 PM
Mando. What does it mean that Ronnir hasn't signed his tender? That we can not trade him? Does it mean he is not on our roster?
Posted by: Roman821 | April 22, 2010 at 05:01 PM
Mando, he's 240 plus pounds. Not exactly a midget. I'm sure he could hack it in a 3-4
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | April 22, 2010 at 05:02 PM
I have heard different things from different people on whether Brown can be traded or not.
I was originally told and wrote that he cannot be traded without signing the tender.
But remember that Wes Welker was traded without signing his tender in 2007. So I'm still trying to get clarification on that.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | April 22, 2010 at 05:02 PM
Armando, what about hughs?
Posted by: D-dense | April 22, 2010 at 05:03 PM
Roman821....Ronnie is a Dolphin BUT cannot be traded if he doesn't sign his tender...NFL rules
Posted by: bobbyd12 | April 22, 2010 at 05:03 PM

Posted by: bobbyd12 | April 22, 2010 at 05:04 PM
Does JT possess any offense or wildcat knowledge that he can give the wets and give them an advantage over us?
Posted by: Roman821 | April 22, 2010 at 05:05 PM
Mark, I like Weatherspoon as well, great stats as well.
Posted by: D-dense | April 22, 2010 at 05:05 PM
Thinking about it, 20 minutes north of me. You know if it's all football or will they show any NBA games? Wanted to watch the cle game too!
Posted by: D-dense | April 22, 2010 at 05:06 PM
D-dense, in addition to being a good player, his intanglibles are off the charts
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | April 22, 2010 at 05:06 PM
Can they even include Ronnie Brown in a trade? I thought he would have had to sign his tender offer in order to be traded?
Posted by: mike | April 22, 2010 at 05:06 PM
Mando, Remember that Welker was traded to the Pats, There are no rules where your the flagship tem of the NFL like New England is...
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 22, 2010 at 05:06 PM
I would hate to be a Rams fan. I don't have a good feeling about Bradford.
Posted by: pistol | April 22, 2010 at 05:07 PM
Roman, NO! But he can teach them the cha-cha and tango
Posted by: Robbyhenz | April 22, 2010 at 05:07 PM
I don't think Jerry Hughes is that far of a reach at 12...
Don't how Kindle is ranked over to be honest...
Posted by: Floydphinfan | April 22, 2010 at 05:07 PM
I want Dez Bryant, where's Mat Millen when you need him?

Bobby. What the best place to catch games in Orlando once the season starts?
Posted by: Roman821 | April 22, 2010 at 05:09 PM
I think a lot of the draft has to do with where Dansby is playing. If he's playing MLB then well pry be looking at two OLB possibly Morgan right our of the gates. If Dansby is going to play outside then one could could make a case for McClain. A lot of people have said Berry is dropping on boards and Thomas has actually passed him on a few team boards based on his ability to line up in the slot and cover Welker type receivers. Should be interesting.

Floyd, I've become "Comfortably numb" on this draft day... What about you my friend??

What is the least that the phins would take for Brown alone? Some here think we can gat a second for him, I think more like a third, or even a fourth. Would it be worth it to trade Brown for a fourth. I think if we got a few teams involved, Brown could be a piece in a trade that might land a second, but not by himself

Posted by: D-dense | April 22, 2010 at 05:13 PM
Rex hates dolfans he didn't want JT cuz of skill he convinced JTs agent to take the Jets side and convince JT to join the Jests. He did it so a Dolphins fav is on the biggest enemy. This is like Namath joining Miami.(even worse)
Draft DEZ BRYANT
