I'm trying to take a day off but my phone was buzzing with a handful of texts on the Dolphins possibly making some moves in the coming hours or days. The name most prominently mentioned in the "rumors" is Ronnie Brown.
Not a surprise. But I assure you, nothing is happening right now.
Funny how the Justin Smiley trade talk has died down.
That doesn't mean something won't happen. As I wrote in my column for The Miami Herald print edition, the coming week will be a busy one indeed for the Dolphins. Come to think of it, it might be the most busy week of roster activity in team history.
Check out the reasons I say that.
Last week was also quite a blast as the Dolphins added wide receiver Brandon Marshall. It's a good thing when the Dolphins make a move that have ripple effects throughout the league.
Adding Marshall resonated throughout the AFC East, including in New York where Darrelle Revis plays. Revis is the best cornerback in the NFL right now, just slightly better than Nmandi Asomugha. If you read this blog or follow me on twitter you know that Marshall reacted to playing Revis twice a year, asking "Where is Revis Island?"
Well, Revis also has thoughts on Marshall.
"It really doesn’t matter to me," Revis said when asked his reaction of Marshall coming to the AFC East. "You see it, people text you, people tweet you, so it’s well-known what’s out there. It’s just another thing where a big-time receiver is in the AFC East. It’s good for [the Dolphins]. They needed a big-time receiver and I get to play against him twice.
So does Revis relish playing Marshall twice a year?
"I love competition," he said. "That’s what I do, I compete no matter who steps up and no matter who comes into this division.’’

Yeah, in my opinion, second rounders present the absolute best value. I think we'll get that pick back before thursday, but I hope it's not at the expense of our most dynamic player

The idea of trading down to get back a 2nd round pick is very palatable, as long as they do another Pat White with it.
Posted by: Ace | April 18, 2010 at 11:02 PM
yeah, i've read a couple people in here say things like "i think if we can get a 4th rd pick for ronnie, then we should take it...."
how in the world would that ever make sense?
Posted by: swedish_phish | April 18, 2010 at 11:05 PM
i was against trading smiley when i first heard about it, but now i have accepted it.....why is still a dolphin? he is a good player, imo, and i would have thought if they were really trying they would found someone by now....
Posted by: swedish_phish | April 18, 2010 at 11:07 PM
If we keep our #12 pick, Earl Thomas should be our pick, no ifs ands or buts...He's a game changer. Unless of course Eric Berry falls to us. That would be a no brainer.
Posted by: FB | April 18, 2010 at 11:08 PM
It makes no sense. But it's a comment on some of our fan base, unfortunately
Posted by: Dishpan | April 18, 2010 at 11:08 PM
Eric Berry would be Christmas in April
Posted by: Dishpan | April 18, 2010 at 11:09 PM
right, a 4th for Ronnie makes no sense. I would be ok with a 2nd though.

weird question, but does anyone know where you could bring or mail an official dolphins jersey to have the official name letters added to the back?
a client of mine is the manager for cheap trick, and last year when they played before the texans game at the stadium he was there and was given a vontae davis jersey but they put my client's last name on it (stupid). he gave it to me, i want it to say "davis" instead of "frey" and i am not sure where to bring it..... thoughts?

Look up sports memorabilia guys on the web. Guys that work with game worn memorabilia would have access to a way to remove/add-on tackle or satin twill.
Posted by: Dishpan | April 18, 2010 at 11:20 PM
thats a good idea, thanks
Posted by: swedish_phish | April 18, 2010 at 11:22 PM
No prob
Posted by: Dishpan | April 18, 2010 at 11:23 PM
Dish, good suggestion bro. Also check companies that do framing of sports mem. I know for a fact that the place that does sports framing near my place does all custom stuff like that...and they are good at it.

i found out he was going to the game, and started joking with him about getting me in. we both live in VA and he said if i got down to miami i could be in the luxury box with him and the band......only problem was that my wife was pregnant and the due date was a day before the game. my wife said i could go, but i should make the ticket one-way....... needless to say, i didnt make it
Posted by: swedish_phish | April 18, 2010 at 11:28 PM
thanks cowkilla, i think we have something like that in town......i am not sure i want to ask where the name came from though
Posted by: swedish_phish | April 18, 2010 at 11:30 PM
Me thinks your wife was daring you, perhaps? Not sure I couldve gotten away with that move. Get your arse down to a luxury box this year, though ... this team should be very entertaining this year ... especially with RONNIE BROWN
Posted by: Dishpan | April 18, 2010 at 11:31 PM
Specialty framing places would work too
Posted by: Dishpan | April 18, 2010 at 11:32 PM
i want to. i have never seen a game in joe rob, i mean pro player, no, dolphin(s), sunlife, landshark........what the hell is it called? stadium
i have only seen games where we are the visiting team, like at the skins or the jets (did i forget to mention my wife is a die hard jets fan?) that might have figured into it.....

I'm in Chicago, so I'm always traveling to watch them, save for 2007 when they embarrased the bears at soldier field. Awesome game. Joey Harrington played like an allpro
Posted by: Dishpan | April 18, 2010 at 11:38 PM
that game was epic! i remember saying they could do it despite EVERY pundit saying there was no chance. didnt JT score a TD on a fumble return?
it just seemed like the set up to that classic MNF game in 85' where marino kept the bears from going undefeated......
Posted by: swedish_phish | April 18, 2010 at 11:42 PM
where is chi-town are you?
all my family is from northern IL / southern wisconsin. my dad was born in skokie......

Posted by: swedish_phish | April 18, 2010 at 11:45 PM
JT scored that TD right in front of us, it was great (and I hate the bears). Im in Glendale Heights, actually spend a ton of time in Skokie.

Posted by: Dishpan | April 19, 2010 at 12:17 AM
We have holes at NT, OLB, FS, LG, TE, and Returner....I got an idea, trade Ronnie so we can get another pick but at the same time open another hole....stupid thoughts people....Ronnie should stay....Simple as that....Why mess with the number one running game in the league (until two top rbs got hurt)....The running game will be even better with Marshall on board...
