Jason Taylor boarded a 7 a.m. plane to New York today. He is visiting the New York Jets as an unrestricted free agent, according to his agent Gary Wichard.
"I pushed him up there," Wichard just told me. "I twisted his arm. He loves the fans in Miami and he gave up $8 million last year to play in front of fans. I am the one to push him to go up there because I don't know what will be available to on April 23 or 25th or whatever."
According to Wichard, Ryan started calling, trying to get Taylor signed the same day they lost kicker Jay Feeley to Arizona in free agency. The Jets are a Final 4 team and can add unrestricted free agents when they lose unrestricted free agents.
"How do you say no to Rex Ryan? Wichard said. "You got to listen to him. I cannot explain to you how much Rex wants him up there."
Wichard said Taylor would probably not sign a contract while he's on the visit.
"He's going to hear, feel and touch the situation, and then we'll meet to decide what happens next," Wichard said.
Taylor's schedule is to be up in New York today and Thursday. He is traveling with his wife, Katina.

I can't even believe the phins might let Taylor go!!! He is better than just about anyone we could put on the field in 2010... Doesn't he have the second most sacks in a season all-time???? And we had him on the field to stop the run last year, it doesn't make any sense. I've been a fan through tough times but I will very dissapointed if they don't sign Taylor... It's not like he's asking for big time money... Phins fans need to speak up and get JT back!!!

Po, as you know, I never bought in to Parcells can't do no wrong thing. IMO, he/they are stubborn, inflexible and just plain refuse to learn. As a team and for us fans, we stand by and watch as other teams pass us by. A perfect example is the jets. They aggressively pursue players while we hope something will come our way. I'm tired of it.
Sorry, I'm through venting now.

cocoajoe, I follow what you are saying

Kinda sounds like the guy that loves his girl but his girl is "Confused" on what she wants, sooner or later the guy gets tired of waiting for "Her" to make up her mind and finds a better piece of tail.... just saying...
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 07, 2010 at 06:01 PM
That’s the problem with this country, gotta get paid as much as possible by any means necessary. JT needs another Million and Rex needs another doughnut.
More! More! More! I need more!

Joe,
Agree with your last statement; life is all based on a matter of degree. I'm feeling more and more like you. The Front Office has shown its Fallible. This year will be the year of final Judgment.
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 07, 2010 at 06:12 PM
LMAO @ CM.
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 07, 2010 at 06:12 PM
Sorry CM, Rex ate them ALL!
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 07, 2010 at 06:16 PM
SNAP!
That’s the sound of Rex's lap-band exploding!
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 07, 2010 at 06:22 PM
Waterboy,
Roth supposedly lied to Sparano. So what? These guys get arrested all of the time for stuff does it surprise you that they lie also.
Having a player under contract protects the team against losing a player without compensation. Making a player under contract an unrestricted free agent because he lied rewards the liar, rewards the team that signs the liar and punishes the team and it's fans.
Posted by: PriceMaster | April 07, 2010 at 06:22 PM
It's almost unthinkable, besides the J-E-T-S suck balls, and last year was an aberration since two teams laid down at the end of the season so they got into the playoffs.
Posted by: Jt350 | April 07, 2010 at 06:25 PM
In year 1 these a s s h o l e s turned our offense into a laughing stock with the wildcat.
In year 3 they will turn our defense into a laughing stock.
The day before Parcells signed with us he was about to sign with Falcons but Wayne H. gave him the guaranteed money whether he signed here or not remember.
Well the Falcons seem to have done fine with these a s s h o l e s and we're stuck with them.
And I've been saying this all along just check the archives.
Posted by: PriceMaster | April 07, 2010 at 06:28 PM
Clarification: The guarantee was $10million even if he quit here and went somewhere else.
Posted by: PriceMaster | April 07, 2010 at 06:28 PM
Po, it has been said that Parcells has 2 more years left to get this team to the championship. It's also been said that Carl Peterson who is Ross's bud is waiting for his chance.
But yet, Parcells acts like he's got all the time in the world. Makes me wonder if he really gives a $hit about our Miami Dolphins.
Posted by: cocoajoe | April 07, 2010 at 06:29 PM
If the Jests are only able to offer up to $1.5 million and perhaps bump it to $3 million with incentives, There is no doubt in my mind this issue will fall on JT to make the choice. Miami got him on the cheap last year. They have reached out to him and I am certain they will offer at least Double ;last year with a similar incentive package. That would guarantee JT 2.4 plus allow for production clauses/ If JT jumps on a deal in NY... its on him. He knows Miami was going to do the draft first... he even said so early on after the previous season ended. If he goes... he goes, I wish him well. If he stays it will be after pulling a really off base number with a hated team... I will not forget that. There are 31 teams in this league... he visited the worst of the bunch FIRST... that shows me his heart.

J,
This year will tell us a lot.
Posted by: Po White Trash | April 07, 2010 at 06:32 PM
Oh, by the way, glad to see you back Po. It's hard to read some of this crap sometimes and glad for a voice of reason.
Posted by: cocoajoe | April 07, 2010 at 06:32 PM
Price, what do you expect next years record to be????
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 07, 2010 at 06:33 PM
Thanks J.
Reason is a stretch but I appreciate the thought.
Can only take this blog in small doses lately.

SO much for Armando saying we reached out for Taylor maybe you should've waited before you put that article up.
Posted by: Fishfan | April 07, 2010 at 06:38 PM
Happy Trails, Jason Taylor.
Posted by: Liepers Fork, TN | April 07, 2010 at 06:39 PM
I am tired of the lack of loyalty both from the teams and players these days. Here we have a proven player, a fan favorite and we show no commitment to him. I wish Jason the best wherever he might wind up. Even if it's with hated Jets.
Posted by: Hd2463 | April 07, 2010 at 06:39 PM
I completely understand and yes, this is a make or break year. I thought that 'they' understood it but now I wonder. I want to see this bunch suceed. But they keep doing stupid $hit.
Posted by: cocoajoe | April 07, 2010 at 06:42 PM
Whoa! I am a great Dolphin fan and have a signature (rookie season) on a helmet by Taylor.
Look this is a business. Maybe Miami doesn't know for sure that they are going to draft a OLB/DE at #12 which would mean they would play
the rookie instead of Taylor. If they don't draft a OLB/de at #12, then they would be wanting Taylor to play--this is a possible fair assessment for Taylor and the Dolphins.
It's gonna be E. Thomas.

cocojoe... have read and will continue to respect your posts. I believe you are fair in most cases to both sides of a story. I would ask, why do you believe this to be a "Make or Break" year... are they not all more or less "all or nothing" once you break them down? I will agree this is a "very important" draft year... reasons being to keep the contracts running as concurrent as possible with all the talent. And the fact this is a very deep draft we can get some real work done in. But if possible... explain the significance of this season over say... next. Thanks, Joe....

HERB,
I DON'T BELIEVE YOU HAVE A HELMET SIGNED BY TAYLOR .CAN YOU PROVE IT ?
Posted by: ALoco | April 07, 2010 at 07:02 PM
Blaine Taylor,
You said it all. JT is a traitor and should be treated as such. he has little to do with Miami's success, and as of recently I would tie him to our failures. As someomne said earlier...run the ball at him and watch the yards pile up. Good riddence JT.
And who are the JT loyalist?! He had no loyalty to you after he helped us go 1-15!
Posted by: kris | April 07, 2010 at 07:03 PM
JT and the Jets are the headline story on NFL Access.

Posted by: ALoco | April 07, 2010 at 07:10 PM
Bill, a couple of reasons. The alternate version of NFL: Not for long. Some cities give a coach/GM/owner an almost unlimited time to succeed. That's not the case in Miami. We have the patience of a gnat and we'll let you know about it.
It has been reported that the current admin has 2 years to be 'competitive'. I'm not making this up.
Ross wants to win and will stick with Parcells to a point. Carl Peterson is Ross's best bud and he's just waiting for a chance to jump in.

KRIS,GOOD POST .
Posted by: ALoco | April 07, 2010 at 07:14 PM
Jason's gone!?
Quick plan B Jeffy, what's it gonna be?
Lets reach for Graham for the strongside and move Wake to weakside.
I know this would be a relatively inexperienced starting duo, but what the heck, we always got Moses and Anderson for quality depth.
Of all people, how did Parcell's let his team get so weak at LB?
