NOTE OFF THE BAT: Salguero favorite players are in bold.
Is it going to be Earl Thomas or Eric Berry or Nate Allen because the Dolphins need a safety? Is it going to be Jerry Hughes, Derrick Morgan or, my future adopted son, Brandon Graham because the Dolphins need a pass rusher? Is it going to be Mike Iupati because the Dolphins need a left guard? God, I hope it's not Dan Williams even though the Dolphins need a nose tackle. (I just don't think Williams is a value pick.)
Everybody backed off the idea of Rolando McClain after Miami signed Karlos Dansby. But what if McClain is the highest guy on Miami's board?
Maybe it will it be a surprise pick.
If Oklahoma TE Jermaine Gresham had not suffered a major knee injury in 2009, he would be a Top 10 pick this draft. Defenses will have nightmares about this kid some day. It would be wonderful if they were having those bad dreams the week they have to play the Dolphins.
Maybe Dez Bryant is a possibility because if one troubled but talented receiver is good, imagine what the Dolphins can do with two troubled but talented receivers. If you want to stay away from the troubled receiver, Demaryius Thomas is a WR that simply could be trouble for opponents. Big, fast, he is under the radar. Until now.
Maybe it's a running back because Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams or both won't be around in 2011. In that case it might be Fresno State RB Ryan Mathews, who could be the workhorse for the next five years. Is C.J. Spiller a possibility? I don't see it, but I'd love it! He's a potential TD every time he touches the football.
You want a name out of the blue? Literally? Someone told me the Dolphins might address their free safety issues by picking Boise State cornerback Kyle Wilson and moving either Sean Smith or Will Allen to free safety. Why do I say this is out of the blue? Have you seen Boise State's field?
By the way, local agent Drew Rosenhaus has been hoping the Dolphins take Jason Pierre-Paul, who is supposed to be a latter day Jevon Kearse. If Rosenhaus successfully planted that seed in Bill Parcells' brain I vote him agent of the year.
Of course, many other names would be in play if the Dolphins trade down as I wrote in today's Miami Herald.
Anyway, that's the set-up for the 2010 NFL Draft that begins at 7:30 p.m.
[BLOG NOTE: You will notice the extensive list of players posted earlier on this site as compiled by Chris Cordero has been taken down. Apparently the template for that list was taken from another site. While Cordero added to that list, subtracted from that list, and then worked on commentary for the list, the standard for the work here is high. It's orginal. When it's someone else's work, in this case universaldraft.com, I tell you or link to it or both.]

Thanks NJ i'm going to check him out...

If we pick at 12, i like Spiller. Realistically, we should trade down & draft Hughes in the mid 20's.
Posted by: Snowman | April 22, 2010 at 12:38 PM
Fins won't be able to trade ronnie brown until after the first day of the draft. Teams will assess what talent is left and decide if it is an upgrade over Ronnie or not....simple as that!

Enough, today is Draft Day, I'm done talking to the trolls and morons...This is going to be a great day!!
Posted by: bobbyd12 | April 22, 2010 at 12:41 PM
I can’t believe all the nonsense on here on draft day. Come on fellas (bobby, nj, bill and all the regulars) ignore the trolls and talk some draft so I have some decent s h i t to read. Anybody that is asking another poster to put his address up on a blog doesn’t deserve a response. The regulars stuck up for Mando and he retracted the fishy info. So let's bring on the draft talk. :)

NJ PHIN FAN - Do you think Blunt carries that much baggage because of the one incident against Boise State? He would be getting taken close to the top of the RB's without that incident. He could be a late round sleeper IMO that would be worth the gamble. If he doesn't work out it's only a lost 6th rounder (guessing on the round he goes). Do you think it would be a good/bad idea to take him?
Posted by: Indiana Dolfan | April 22, 2010 at 12:51 PM
bobbyd12 , sorry you mentioned the owner . it was j-lo. that means he won't be the pick. LOL

Affter Marshall and Incognito, Blount would be an altar boy

morgan, jpp, or dan williams--or trade only viable options---kindle to high 4 him, bg, hughes arnt even on radar we have wake---he is already the undersized exception tuna made--no way he does another 1---
if we trade out---it will be iupati, or they will grab a nose like linval joesph or cody---even though they are 2nd round prospects. Tuna does throw out value if he believes in the player.
Spikes in the 3rd---i see u Florida

Indiana , he has had more than that one inciden vs boise st. Check it out . No , i don't think it's a bad idea or a big gamble in the 6th.
Posted by: NJ PHIN FAN | April 22, 2010 at 12:56 PM
linval has extreme upside drawing comparisons to Nghata for his 34-end, nt versitility--
Cody is the most natural nose, playn it in college---dont mind either at 25
Posted by: allen | April 22, 2010 at 12:56 PM
WTF do you come up with your crap salguero?? If the staff and scouts and people in the know, and Parcells himself wants Dan Wiliams why the hell do you not think he's a "value pick?" None of the joke picks you have listed (N O N E) outweigh our need for a nosetackle! After a few minutes of sitting here, I am dumbfounded why I even started this response......you need to find something else to write about (as in a whole different realm)! Clearly, football ain't it for you...
LMFAO! "trade down......." and lose everything we need. Moronic....

Blount got provoked by a taunting player, followed by fans shouting expletives & also taunting (watch the tape), and lost his temper.
Quite frankly, the punk on the other squad should have been disciplined too, and the fans identified thru videotape & banned from games.
Blount deserved to be punished. He was. He did what was asked of him & adequately demonstrated remorse.
I'm sure all you judgmental, glass-house-living-stone-throwing Angels out there never lost your temper or did something horrbly stupid.
Blount does not have "too much" baggage. He has some baggage that must be factores into his draft status.
But there is no reasonto take him off the board based on the Boise incident.
I mean, really fellas??? Didn't we just get Brandon & Richie Incog?? Two moves I liked very much, btw.
So let's not bury Blount yet.

What sets Derrick Morgan apart from Matt Roth?
I mean Morgan is a little faster -- but...not as strong.
Is there really a potentially 'elite' player available @ 12?

Yazzi--
at this point....prolly just that Tuna may likee Derrick but no likee Matt.
Posted by: The Seer | April 22, 2010 at 01:07 PM
NJ - I didn't know he had that much more than the incident with Boise State, but I agree it wouldnt be a bad idea with late round pick.
Standley23 - Nice point on using Ginn's 5th rounder on Blunt. In a sense we would trade brick hands for a solid runner with a little bit of immaturity, in which I think he'll grow out of? I'd take that trade...

FS is where it's at!!!
Those of you who thought the Marshall trade would never happen are the same ones wanting a NT.
Let's get real here! We need a playmaker at the FS spot!!
I’m still sticking to my original most valuable pick at #12 if we don’t trade down lets go with MY NAME IS EARL, THOMAS (a Thomas from Texas has never let us down here in Miami)
Just look at the steelers defense last year, Polamalu went down and the whole defense was not the same, teams were able to pass on them and they didn’t get as many sacks (coverage sacks) because TE and WR were able to get open faster without Troy to cover the field. Look at the Ravens when Reed goes down, they are not nearly the same.
FS is the playmaker of the defense, why were we so bad last year? Our FS was not a true FS. That has to be the number one fix. Just imagine us with a true FS last year, we end up winning at least 3 to 4 games that we lost based on defensive blown plays (that’s an 11-5 record compared to 7-9)
There is a rumor that they may move Sean Smith to FS (he is a ball hawk so this may work out nicely) and take a CB in the draft.
I like the idea of Sean Smith back there as well then Will Allen would start and we could draft a CB in the 3rd or 4th to play dime and nickel with Jason Allen (last chance for this guy to step it up!). If that’s the game plan then it allows us to focus on trading down and getting in the 2nd round. In the 1st round get an OLB pass rushing expert in the 1st round and 2nd round a NT. Then pick up another OLB later, possibly in the 5th.
Posted by: Jamillion | April 22, 2010 at 01:21 PM
matt roth build is nothing like derrick morgan---Roth is top heavy with short arms---mrogan is bottom heavy--which is the better type of weight distribution with long arms---and morgan is a better athelte----yazzi
Posted by: allen | April 22, 2010 at 01:21 PM
I would select the best we at 12. It would be nice to see us take to the air a bit more.
Posted by: Nic | April 22, 2010 at 01:22 PM
Not sure if Carlito is still around but that's a good mock he put together this morning. Only thing, I'm not that big on Micah Johnson (although I guess the sixth isn't bad). I'd like to see a TE and KR in there somewhere. I know we have a number of needds but that's a couple maybe lesser priorities I hope we can have taken care of.
Posted by: Craig M | April 22, 2010 at 01:23 PM
I don't know & wasn't starting anything; honestly I've only seen comments on this page & was just asking myself the same Q when I saw your 1:21 post.
I just nptoce a couple of mentions here That I assumed (& we know whatthatmeasn!) meant folks (not necess. you) were flaming Blount.
Also, quite frankly, the subject of Blount kinda gets me worked up (as you can see).....the A-Hole on Boise & the drunken screaming fans ticked me off as much if not more than Blount's overreaction.
So sorry if you took it wrong but pls. chill.....it was a Blount thing, not an NJ thing!!
Posted by: The Seer | April 22, 2010 at 01:25 PM
And don't ask me what language "nptoce" is!!!
Posted by: The Seer | April 22, 2010 at 01:27 PM
I'm still thinking it's Kindle, Morgan or McClain in that order. If a tradedown happens, it's while we are on the clock and I would look to see us grab a Graham or a Hughes in the twenties.
It will be interesting to see if Houston tries to trade up with us. I think they are a team on the verge of something good and I could see them trying to jump up to grab Spiller or Bryant if they are still around. To team one of these guys with Johnson in that offence would be impressive.
Posted by: Craig M | April 22, 2010 at 01:27 PM
Allen...good breakdown of the differences between Roth and Morgan. People forget or never knew Roth was a 6'4, 250 lb, speed DE coming out of Iowa. Should have never been asked to bulk up to become a 3-4 DE.
Posted by: Esteban | April 22, 2010 at 01:28 PM
Don Banks from SI has us trading down with the Eagles and STILL getting Sergio Kindle. I think that would be AWESOME. He has WR D. Thomas still there at 24, so I myself would be VERY tempted to take him at 24 and take OLB in the second round with the pick acquired from Eagles. I don't think they will do that but that's my thoughts.
Posted by: Craig M | April 22, 2010 at 01:32 PM
Mando, what do you have to say about ESPN reporting that your sweetheart JT WAS INDEED OFFERED A CONTRACT BY MIAMI AFTER THE SEASON. Man, what a repeated Judas this guy is.
http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5124774
And still we have "fans" blaming the administration for this idiot playing for the Jets. it couldn't have anything to do with JT playing in the biggest media centre to further his non existent "hollywood" career, could it? Just fess up Jason.

There's a rumor that Dallas will trade with the Dolphins...if that comes to pass...and the Dolphins drop down to 27...only one player will be there worth the pick...Mount Cody.
Remember...Mount Cody.
