« Trade down, Dolphins, please trade down! | Main | Final word (I think) on Taylor offseason offer »

Draft day is here! So what happens?

NOTE OFF THE BAT: Salguero favorite players are in bold.

Is it going to be Earl Thomas or Eric Berry or Nate Allen because the Dolphins need a safety? Is it going to be Jerry Hughes, Derrick Morgan or, my future adopted son, Brandon Graham because the Dolphins need a pass rusher? Is it going to be Mike Iupati because the Dolphins need a left guard? God, I hope it's not Dan Williams even though the Dolphins need a nose tackle. (I just don't think Williams is a value pick.)

Everybody backed off the idea of Rolando McClain after Miami signed Karlos Dansby. But what if McClain is the highest guy on Miami's board?

Maybe it will it be a surprise pick.

If Oklahoma TE Jermaine Gresham had not suffered a major knee injury in 2009, he would be a Top 10 pick this draft. Defenses will have nightmares about this kid some day. It would be wonderful if they were having those bad dreams the week they have to play the Dolphins.

Maybe Dez Bryant is a possibility because if one troubled but talented receiver is good, imagine what the Dolphins can do with two troubled but talented receivers. If you want to stay away from the troubled receiver, Demaryius Thomas is a WR that simply could be trouble for opponents. Big, fast, he is under the radar. Until now.

Maybe it's a running back because Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams or both won't be around in 2011. In that case it might be Fresno State RB Ryan Mathews, who could be the workhorse for the next five years. Is C.J. Spiller a possibility? I don't see it, but I'd love it! He's a potential TD every time he touches the football.

You want a name out of the blue? Literally? Someone told me the Dolphins might address their free safety issues by picking Boise State cornerback Kyle Wilson and moving either Sean Smith or Will Allen to free safety. Why do I say this is out of the blue? Have you seen Boise State's field?

By the way, local agent Drew Rosenhaus has been hoping the Dolphins take Jason Pierre-Paul, who is supposed to be a latter day Jevon Kearse. If Rosenhaus successfully planted that seed in Bill Parcells' brain I vote him agent of the year.

Of course, many other names would be in play if the Dolphins trade down as I wrote in today's Miami Herald.

Anyway, that's the set-up for the 2010 NFL Draft that begins at 7:30 p.m.

[BLOG NOTE: You will notice the extensive list of players posted earlier on this site as compiled by Chris Cordero has been taken down. Apparently the template for that list was taken from another site. While Cordero added to that list, subtracted from that list, and then worked on commentary for the list, the standard for the work here is high. It's orginal. When it's someone else's work, in this case universaldraft.com, I tell you or link to it or both.]

Jimmy Graham from the U of Dickenson from Pitt... Don't be surprised...

Dorin Dickerson is the guy I would like to see, I don't know if we will pull the trigger on him. I would like to choose a tight end no later then the fourth round, because I think it is more important then Rb. Pitta would be a good choice. At BYU they really use the tight end up the seems, the tight ends there are usually the best recievers on the team. So that bodes well. Dickerson is a freak, small for the trifectas standards. But he can play all over the field, and would be a matchup nightmere for LB,s and Safteys because of his strength and quickness. Also he is high on the Patsies board, and I do not want him in our division, unless it is for us!

The plague that came over are still munching on what to do now. Sending screen images of Cordero's info to Deadspin or SportsByBrooks to have their opinions on prosecuting Salguero. Sending emails to editors demanding restitution. Demanding apologies and proper attribution by Armando. Checking IP addresses and trying to dig up dirt on Cordero maybe in attempts to black-ball him via his position with the Heat. You guys really hurt their wittle feelins.

Agree with Darryl, Hell, I majored in Plagiarism in collage.....

Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 22, 2010 at 02:24 PM

Cuban, I too majored in plagiarism in college. But you did not spell college correctly, keep practicing.

The day has come. Can't wait til tonight fellow fin fans. Go defense on first pick.

Fishypete,

I happen to think Dansby would work outside. I just think he might be more effective inside. I don't LOVE some of the OLB in this draft so maybe Lee in the third isn't the worst idea!

I do worry about Cody though. If Saban struggled to get him to keep his weight down then I'm not sure how Sparano and company will make out. I can see this guy really struggling once he has lots of money. I would rather Joseph, Thomas or Troupe in the third where the financial risk isn't as great.

But I don't hate your plan and I do think it is rather well thought out.

so many good TEs this year its ridiculous. Dedrick Epps in the 6th round would be a steal. He came back from a knee injury and played this year when people thought he'd have to redshirt. he's not back to 100% yet so didn't time as well as he did in college and played less, too. He's a guy who can get big gains up the seam.

Has anyone heard the rumor of Albert Haynesworth possible being traded. I not sure if I would be interested in him becoming a Miami Dolphin as he has injury problems, but just figured I would through it out there for disucssion

Funny stuff odinseye.

I've been saying all along Dansby will be playing outside... Mando doesn't buy it... You watch. Don't be surprised if the Dolphins take an inside linebacker. Everybody seems to think we'll take an outside guy. Not so convinced. Dansby and Wake could be our starting OLBs...

EightyTwenty, again, your not only a P U S S Y ur ignorant...can't wait to put my nutz in ur old lady's mouth again

Indiana, after giving up the kind of money we did for Dansby and Marshall, I just don't see it happening with Haynesworth...

New Blog entry, Mando crushing our Draft Day Experience...
come on dude!

Waterboy , the marshall trade takes the urgency to draft a TE real early is out now. Marshall's game and size has a little TE in it. Fasano will bounce back to his first dolphin year form with mrashall on board. They will look for a te in rounds 5-7.

Haynsworth doesn't want to play NT

Big Ben suspended 6 games and the 6th game will be against the Phins HAAAAAAA

That is good for us!

Indiana,

The only way Haynesworth comes to Miami is as a NT and he has NO interest in playing NT with anyone. His attitude sucks and his contract is ridiculous!!

He's a really good player but he's not coming to our team.

Bobbyd12.
We need a pass catching tight end. It makes all the sense in the world to go that route. I would be a little suprised if it was as early as the 3rd round. The 4th round sounds about right. We still have to see if a deal will be made. If we were to get a second, does Gresham come into play if the pick is near, the bottom of the round?

Watch the Raiders land Ben Roethlisberger... Good old Al Davis... They already gave up a 5th rounder today to get Quentin Groves, the former first round pick bust... They also gave up a 3rd for Kamerion Wimbley a couple of months ago. Now what's Al going to do with the 8th overall pick?? Nobody knows with this guy... They could change the outcome of the entire first round...

Indiana,

It's a six game suspension but don't be surprised if it gets knocked down to four for good behaviour. Chances are he will be back playing against us in game 6.

dickerson, ran a 4.4. that's fast for a TE. you're right, he's not the prototype TE. but you could use him at just about any skill position. out wide, h-back, heck you could even have him at FB. nice it wildcat. he should be there in the mid 4th. i hope. i'd like to grab a pitt guy in the next 2 drafts also. jonathon baldwin next years draft, total beast. 6'5 225. and dion lewis the following year. small at 5'8 but wow he can carry the rock. unfortunately both could easily be top 10 picks if they keep going the was they are now. maybe pitt will have a horrible qb...

Dont mind me IM A DUMBASS ANYWAY

Darryl, Gresham or Graham, Gresham will be gone in round 1

Dickerson runs a 4.4 but averaged 10 yards a catch last year. No point in having big time speed if it doesn't translate into big plays.

Thanks NJ,

I put that soiled bottom "jab" in there just for you-LOL.

Speaking of "Jabs" I wouldn't shy away from Blount at all. I'm sure that incident sped up his maturing process.
Almost all the great ones play with a lot of emotion. He just has to learn to channel it between the tackles.

One of my favorite Marino emotional moments was while being sacked by LB Greg Lloyd of the Steelers. As Marino went down with Lloyd on his chest he grabbed him by the facemask and then took a jab at him.
Classic Marino.

Stay away from Kindle....word on the street is he might need mirco knee surgery. Some mock drafts.....IE Dallas Morning News..... doesn't even have him in the 1st anymore. Kindle is from Dallas....so the source may be good.

Speaking of the Dallas Morning News....they show the Fins going after WR Thomas out of GA Tech. That would be a surprise.

Watch Al swap first round picks with the Steelers, get Roethlisberger and give up their second rounder on top of it... Wouldn't be surprised at all... Now you already gave up your third and your fifth... You would now pick in the first and that would be pretty much it until the 4th...LOL!!

ME AND MY HUKSBAND LIVE IN SOJO

Indians , craig is correct, if ben completes counseling and stays out of trouble it will be only 4 games. He'll be back for the fins game , if he's still on the team LOL !!

Stay away from Kindle, sorry with the NFL doing physicals and all the info out there I wouldn't put in ant stock to what the Dallas Morning News gas to say

Draft party at my house! BYOKY!!!

The dallas morning news picking D thomas for miami should tell you all you need to know, they have zero credibility and don't have a clue on what they're talking about on kindle or anything else for that matter. LOL

Dennis Pitta, Tony Moeaka, Shelton Quarles, Dedrick Epps, Jimmy Graham, Ed Dickson, Anthony McCoy, Aaron Hernandez, Rob Gronkowski...all TEs, all can stretch the seam, all will be available after the first round. and i'm sure i forgot some guys.

i'm not a dickerson fan. Arelious Benn is the same size. Just get a WR if you want someone who's not going to block.

Austinboy,

It will be interesting to hear more about that. If there is any truth to that then that's bad news for us. I guess we can pretty much scratch him off the list if that's the case. Then I guess it's down to Morgan or McClain but I sure hope we can trade back. It's getting bleak for us!!

Ronnie Brown still hasn't signed his tender... Guess he's not going anywhere... Don't hear much about Smiley either...

ah Craig, #12 is a good spot. Everyone got their warts. Gotta focus on what they can do and get the most out of 'em. Orapko couldn't cover to save his life last year. So they started rushing him more as the season when on. Ends up in the pro bowl. Gotta put guys in position to excel - one key aspect that gets overlooked.

Ideally it would be great if Spiller, Bryant and Claussen are still around when we pick. It would allow us to perhaps find a tradedown partner in the bottom half of the first round.

PRAY!!!.....

Esteban,

Are you hearing that Kindle might need micro-surgery? If there's anything to that he's off our list.

i haven't heard that. but if he free falls then we know its more than a rumor.

Kindle has a medical problem that he take med's for...it's not a major problem.

Armando,

I applaud your finally giving universaldraft.com credit in your blog note today and encourage you to collaborate with them in future blogs pertaining to the draft.

Your commentary is eerily close to those of universaldraft.com personas. #justsaying

Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal reports several sources have told him that Texas OLB Sergio Kindle suffers from narcolepsy, a disorder in which Kindle would fall asleep in meetings...Kindle takes medication that has controlled the narcolepsy and an attention-deficit issue. Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal

Hell I did that in High School many times...LOL

Speaking of...Time for this old guy's afternoon nap....catch ya later!! GO PHINS!!

Joshua, wanna come collaborate with my backside at my "draft party" tonight?

Except for Demaryus Thomas who is a fast guy who can't catch the ball or run routes---I think we've had enough of that to last us for another year or two--I would be happy with any of the names on Salguero's bold-faced list

Stav, Thomas can catch...isn't a body catcher either. Lack of focus on occasion doesn't mean you got bad hands. Just have to work on that. Some guys have stone hands and all the work in the world and they still suck at catching.

What about Hughs or Weatherspoon?

just read on pft that tebow's agent (jimmy sexton btw) claims to know where he is going and he'll be picked higher than expected.

I'm crossing my fingers & toes that if this is true, that team is NOT the Dolphins!

The Dolphins MUST MUST trade down out of the #12 spot at least once and there is a good chance if CJ Spiller, Earl Thomas, Pierre Thomas, or Dez Bryant fall to them which will more likely happen. Teams such as the Giants and Cowboys have shown interest in trading up, in fact, I think I heard that the Eagles have asked the Dolphins what would it take. You can still get one of the better OLB and address DT the following round. If the Dolphins want to stay here at 12 the only guy I see of value would be Earl Thomas which you may still get if u trade down with the Giants.

Weatherspoon or Hughs

Kindle - Chip Brown reported it "as rumor" on a Austin Radio Station this morning. Chip Blogs for Orangebloods and used to work for Dallas Morning News.

Earl Thomas is the real deal.....seen him play since day one......I'd love to see Miami take him.

Kindle.....can be a beast...as JT Type backer. "See the National Championship Game"

Another solid pick from Texas.....Jordan Shipley........a Wes Walker Type. Great hands, fast, returns kicks.....but he only holds for kicks......he doesn't kick field goal and PATs

If Fins trade down......Lamar Houston is great 2nd round DT.

I like Houston, but he'd be a bad fit for the Fish's 3-4.

What about LB?

Dont Fumble Fins with an Offensive player pick. Please!

I like Hughs at olb.

I like Kindle as well hope its all rumors. We desperately need to fill the vacancy.

What's with all the talk of LG being a NEED? Smiley may end up back with us anyway, so far no trade partners at all. At 12, you have to go top-tier talent...I don't know who will be left at that spot...I say pass on Williams...Kindle maybe, no to Morgan, no to Graham. It's not an original thought, but this pick has trade down written all over it...

Armando's this blog article you wrote is lame...the joke about Boise State is stupid and if you think Rosenhaus influences Tuna, you're on crack
