Dolphins nose tackle Paul Soliai on Wednesday evening signed a new representation agreement with South Florida based agent David Canter.
Soliai, 26, recently fired former agent Leo Goeas over a financial disagreement. Soliai's is signed through 2010 when he is scheduled to make $550,000.
"Paul knows he's now got a local team of people that are behind him 100 percent and will do everything we can to help him with every aspect of career," Canter said, "And that could translate directly to better performance on the football field."
Canter said he and his new client are aware the Dolphins will be looking for a nose tackle in the coming NFL draft. But that isn't their concern or focus.
"The focus is getting Paul playing like the dominant player he's shown he can be at times," Canter said. " ... Everything after that will take care of itself."
Canter also represents cornerback Sean Smith and believes the second-year corner is taking the necessary steps for a good second season.
"He's so focused right now he turned down some off-field [offers] that would have taken literally five minutes of his time," Canter said.

I must have been taking a leak during that play......

Can Soliai now join Weight Watchers also ? Oh, also try to learn to hold the point of attack like Ferguson can, a guy 10 years older then you.
Posted by: Druid Wrozenhouse | April 08, 2010 at 05:38 PM
NT is a very hard position to learn, give the guy a break.
Posted by: GMJohnson | April 08, 2010 at 05:50 PM
Solai is probably on borrowed time. He hasn't shown he can be a starter in this league and the Dolphins will undoubtedly draft a NT in one of the first four rounds this year. Ferguson will be back after the first eight games. So I would think it would be Solai to start, with the rookie in the wings looking to show something until Fegie comes back and takes over. Big opportunity for Solai to show something.

Um, I would say this is a very non-issue so I won't make any comments on Canter reeling in another Fin...
Mark,
I am of the belief that the Fins are NOT going to push Dansby from ILB his #1 position that he has played well in the past with the Cards.
The only thing that the Fins brass has ever said regarding Dansby is that he is capable of flopping over to OLB to give that look.
All his accolades have come with the Cards as an ILB. The Fins would be better served to simply draft the OLB/DE type that can put the most heat on the opposing teams QB/Backfield.
What is your reasoning?
Cheers,

Po,
The wierd thing is you would think by outweighing Fergie by soooooo much that Soliai would be able to anchor vs the run and he just doesn't... I mean he ONLY does when you are taking a leak.......................Hmmmmmmm...
Maybe you should drink TONS of fluids before every Fin game?

This is all well and good but what's going on with the Jason Taylor saga, enquiering minds want to know. Mando, are you and JT scheming behind the scenes on this one? I've never seen a writer care so much about one player in my life.
I don't understand why you don't let them conduct their business the way they want to. I believe you are talking with JT about this because you mentioned all of these behind the scenes things going on that you obviously didn't get from Parcells and company. That makes me believe that Taylor and his agent are going behind the teams back telling you things that happened so you will write about them to help his position.
If the team wants to keep this between the player and them why do you guys constantly push them? It seems like you get a rise out of pissing them off and to a die hard Dolphins fan that is very upsetting considering it undermines what the team is trying to do at times.

I was floored that Ireland actually went on NFLN and had a chat with Michael Lombardi.
What I heard from that interview (As much as you can tell and I listened to 4 x) was I heard a GM trying his best to NOT be associated with Jason Taylor by ANY verbal means.
At one point he says "They know are stance, I spoke with Gary (Wichard JTs agent)and he knows full well our position.
Lombardi then reiterates after Ireland says that "then there would obviously be a chance he becomes Dolphin AFTER the draft."
Ireland responds "I didn't say that". "They know our position."
From what I heard and by judging posturing etc... JT's only chance to be a Fin is if the Fins simply can't get the players they are looking to draft defensively...namely OLB.
Donkey... that's about as cutting edge as I can get.

Posted by: ALoco | April 08, 2010 at 06:33 PM
Sean smith is "so focused" he's turned down things that "Literally" would have taken up "five minutes" of his time? Assuming these "things" could have put money in his pocket, and with an awareness that the dude spends WAY more then "five minutes" each day tweeting, I have to call into question my man's intelligence. At least get paid to inject inane horseshit into the known universe. Your agent doesn't seem to mind.

And this, " What Ireland did not explain is why the Dolphins have to wait until after the draft to know whether they want Taylor or not. Fact is the guy makes sense right now, not just after the draft".
First of all they don't have to explain to anyone why they aren't signing a player. They obviously have their reasons. I would venture a guess that Parcells still isn't a big Taylor fan after the dancing incident and only signed him because of the bargain price. They don't owe Taylor anything. He's the one who screwed the team by choosing dancing and hollywood over his teammates. He's the one who needed to repair his image in south Florida so he offered to play here again for a discount. What has he done for these three guys that makes anyone feel he is owed something from them?
And second, YOU say it makes sense now, and I love ya, but you're not in the meetings behind closed doors and you have no idea what direction the team is going to take nor do you have any idea who they will draft. It makes sense to you, and on the surface it may seem to be a no brainer, but there is more going on than any of us know. I could sit here all night and come up with reasons why they're waiting but I don't know.
So instead of implying that they're morons or saying they're smart for not signing him TODAY I will wait to see how it plays out. At that point we can all pass judgement. But what's the sense in bashing the team and taking sides before you even have all of your facts straight? These are the things that make me believe that you have an axe to grind with the trifecta. Someone obviously disrespected you and you can't let it go or so it seems.
I don't know bud. It just seems you can go about these things in a better way. This isn't watergate and you guys aren't interrogators. I sometimes wish that you all would realize that. You're still writing these stories for us, the fans, and we happen to love our team.
Posted by: Account Deleted | April 08, 2010 at 06:42 PM
Pbrown,
Yeah the whole young guy turning down and $$ making opp for 5 mins worth of work???
Is his agent trying to say Sean Smith is sooo ultra focused on his football career he doesn't have an extra 5 mins to make some cashish? Smells fishy.
On a seperate note I am reading a book on Vince Lombardi's life and he would turn down things right and left.
His agent said that after he retired as head coach of the GB Packers a shaving creme company was going to acvance him $10,00 (a lot of money back in 1968) to endorse their product.
Vince simply told his agent "No, I use a different shaving cream."
I suppose anything is possible but I know for a fact Smith has 5 mins he doesn't use on football... the guy Twitters a ton! Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Cheers,

I was suprised that Ireland even gave an interview to NFLN's Michael Lomabardi.
You can tell that public speaking is definitely NOT Ireland's forte.
Lombardi grilled him pretty good but Ireland gave mostly political answers as should be the case. Lombardi pushed Ireland saying "you guys are height/weight/speed guys, did you feel comfortable with Dez Bryant in his off the field stuff?"
Ireland said "We had dinner with Dez and he is a nice young man, I am fine with Dez Bryant."
I do get the impression that Ireland would be the kind of guy that would let a legit sound byte slip out accidentally if he had to speak to the media on a regular basis.
No worries with that as the interviews are few and far between.

SoCal does offer some beautiful women though.

Dear Mr. Aloco
"I AM WRITING A POEM ABOUT LOVE GOES LIKE"
I THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a Meatball.
A Meatball whose hungry mouth is prest
Against Aloco's flowing breast;
A Meatball that looks at God all day,
And lifts Aloco's weak and gangly arms to pray;
A Meatball that may in summer wear
A nest of smaller Meatballs in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Meatballs are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
