As the media is always quick to publish loud headlines when athletes get into trouble, I am today trying to give balance to that fact and tell you when the trouble is resolved at a volume that doesn't blare quite so much.
Remember the Randy Starks arrest last May on Miami Beach for aggravated battery on a police officer?
Today it was resolved in Miami-Dade traffic court as nothing more than a moving violation.
Starks pleaded nolo contendere (no contest) to failing to use due care and was found guilty. His sentence? A $219 fine which is due by June 8th (I get the feeling a player who signed a $25 million contract will be able to come up with the money by then) and Starks must also complete an 8-hour traffic school course within 120 days.
The whole issue with Starks allegedly resisting arrest and using his truck as a weapon on a police officer? Those charges were dropped last July. So not proven, not an issue.
Go on your way Randy Starks. You have been completely cleared.

Price,
WOW! Like a cobra you were ready to strike. Whatever you say. I was thinking it was more of a football blog man.

As far as a football blog goes what more can I say that I havn't said already over and over and over again.
Parcells needs to be fired and sued for malpractice.
Ireland needs to be fired and have his jaw broken against the curb.
Soprano needs to be fired wildcat style; specifically Stephen Ross should hold a press conference announcing his firing before he tells him to his face, hopefully while Tony is on vacation.
The three stooges.
Cheers!

Mando,
I guess the media isn't the only one who doesn't care about the story.

Mando,
Maybe its time to reevaluate where you're headed as a journalist - or beat writer. It appears, in your never ending search for twitter followers, of which I'm not one, and your lust for blog hits, that you tolerate and encourage all kinds off-point and offensive comments that lend nothing to the theme of this blog.
I guess you pride yourself on not censoring ANY comments and that is your option. Mine will be to say farewell since there are many other options that don't wind down the road of pre-pubescent braggadocio and pure BS. Comments in this latest series of posts is the last straw. Have fun providing a forum for a bunch or adolescent and half addled nut cases that frequent this space.

Just because the State Attorney's office reduces the charges does not mean it did not happen. The Miam-Dade State Attorney's office only pursues slam dunks especially when the defendant has a high priced attorney(who, by the way is married to a miami-Dade criminal court judge).
This story has been erroneously reported from the beginning. Every new story reports that the officer was not injured when he sustained serious, possibly career-ending injuries. Many have said that the arrest was made because the defendant is a professional athlete. What is not reported is that there were two other football players in the semi-truck(one a perennial pro-bowler) who could have easily been arrested for obstruction of justice. If the arresting officer really was out to get a professional athlete he would have charged Starks with the .45 caliber handgun that he had and the invalid carry permit he possessed.
It's a shame that there has been such a negative reaction towards Law Enforcement both in the media amd in the posted comments regarding this arrest. All the arresting Sgt. was trying to do was prevent a tragedy from happening by stopping a semi-truck packed with 13 people and the driver gettin a lap dance while sitting in the drivers seat 10 feet above the street. On that particular weekend there were thousands of people walking in the street and any one of them could have been killed by Starks irresponsibility. To attack the Sgt. for trying to save lives is ludicrous.
