Rumors: 'Can't take it no more'

Rumors.

They are everywhere. Everywhere!

Sometimes, they have zero credence, like the one that said Jason Taylor's contract with the Jets was "close to done." That was almost two weeks ago. I guess close can be a relative term -- like the moon is close to the Earth, if you compare our planet's distance to Pluto.

Sometimes the rumors are based in fact. Remember the rumor I reported to you about Brandon Marshall telling a Denver Broncos teammate he was headed to Miami? Remember the rumor about Ted Ginn being on the trade block?

Well, the days leading to the draft are perhaps the most rumor-filled days on the NFL calendar. And there are some interesting ones floating.

There's a rumor Ronnie Brown is on the trade block. The truth is, Brown cannot be traded right now. He cannot be traded until he signs his restricted free agent tender. The truth is the Dolphins are not actively calling all 31 other NFL teams and offering Brown. But the truth also is if a team approaches Miami about Brown, the Dolphins are more than happy to listen. I believe the Dolphins would gladly trade Brown for a second-round pick. I also believe they aren't likely to get that for him. We'll see.

There's a rumor the Dolphins are intrigued by the idea of trading for Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora. Apparently the NYGs have taken a sort of liking to South Florida's Jason Pierre-Paul and if that liking develops into them drafting him, that makes Umenyiora not only endangered, but practically extinct on the roster. Umenyiora played at Troy. Bill Parcells regularly looks at players from Troy and, indeed, picked DeMarcus Ware from Troy in 2005. Thus these trade rumors.

But this one is a head-scratcher, if you ask me. Umenyiora would project as an OLB in Miami's defense, but he's never played the position before. So the Dolphins would be interested in giving up a draft pick for Umenyiora after a 29-tackle, 7-sack season even when a team from New York has decided he's no longer a fit. But the Dolphins are apparently not as interested in giving up zero draft picks for Jason Taylor after a 42-tackle, 7-sack season even when a team from New York has decided he'd be a great fit. Yes, I know Umenyiora is 28 years old and Taylor is 35 years old. But I also know the draftee it costs to get Umenyiora would come cheaply and be maybe 21-22 years old.

On the positive side, if the Dolphins do indeed swing this deal for a fifth-round pick, they will have effectively traded Ted Ginn Jr. for Osi Umenyiora. That sounds like an upgrade to me. Ronnie Brown for Osi Umenyiora? Both Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw are recovering from various surgeris. Of course, so is Brown. We'll see.

There's a rumor the Dolphins are trying to trade G Justin Smiley. It is true. It also hasn't gotten done so far. The bottom line here is Smiley has shoulder issues. He had them in San Francisco. He had them in Miami. They are not going away anytime soon. Furthermore, once the Dolphins put Smiley on the market and told him not to report for offseason conditioning, they basically alerted the rest of the NFL Smiley isn't in their long-term plans. The price for Smiley has dropped. Despite this, the Dolphins don't want to simply give him away. Their stance is they can hold onto Smiley up until training camp is set to open in late July. So what might Smiley bring in trade?

Not a lot. Purely speculating here: Maybe a sixth-rounder. Sad isn't it? We'll see.

There's a rumor the Dolphins will attempt to trade down in the coming draft. This is true. Although the chances are better that Miami will have to stick with pick No. 12 for lack of trade-down options, the team seriously would like to drop a handful of spots and pick up a late-second pick in the exchange. The Dolphins are not the only team wanting to do this. Denver might want to trade down also and the Broncos are scheduled to pick at No. 11. So, you guessed it, we'll see.

Hey Odinseye, believe it or not Dansby started his college career as a safety, year 2 he was moved to OLB where he played his entire college career. He didn't move inside till the NFL.. He was a Butkus Award Runner Up in College at OLB...

do a post with Orange Juice Jones' walking in the rain.......silly rabbit tricks are for kids

odinseye,

Like you mate,i dont know anything about Dansby's college career but have heard bobby and NJ mention it so many times that he's played there in the past and played well.

I know an Earl Thomas or Derrick Morgan/Sergio Kindle would make more sense, but i love the idea of having Wake,McClain,Crowder and Dansby as our Linebacker corps.

Imagine what Nolan could do with that group :)

Well it's official. It's countdown to D-Day!

1. Brandon Graham, OLB-Michigan.

2, Brandon Marshall, WR-MIAMI DOLPHIN(God that sounds so good).

3. Reshad Jones, S-Georgia

6. Sleeper Steal of the Year: Terrell Hudgins, WR-Elon.

Based on forty-yard dash time, Terrence Cody will become the slowest defensive tackle to be drafted in the last 20 years this week.
Cody's 5.66 forty time is rivaled only by former seventh-rounder Corey Swinson (5.62 in 1985), fifth-rounder Tim Roberts (5.51 in 1992), and 2009 Patriots second-round pick Ron Brace (5.51). "This guy doesn't have any first-step quickness," observed a scout of Cody. "He's a big, fat blob," added one NFC personnel man. "He's a big media creation. He cannot move at all."

Do you think Dough Boy fits the Parcells Prototype?????

Adrian, in five years Ronnie has missed part or all of three years...NFL Scouts questioned his pick coming out of college wondering if he was durable, obviously they were right..I posted the other day from a site where Doctor's are quoted as saying he will not be fully healed till November, and he has an increases chance of re-fracturing his foot till then...don't expect some "Monster" year out of Ronnie cause it probaly won't happen

Odin, I agree that Brown has more value as a phin then trying to peddle him for a lower round draft choice. I do think he could be a piece in a trade that involves another piece that might warrant a second round draft pick. But to me it makes no sense to just give him away this year.

bobbyd12,

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that this is news to me.
Oh well, it just makes even more convinced that this guy's the real F'ing deal.

I can't wait to see the guy in Phins uniform!

Tommorrow, schedule comes out...interested to see if the NFL took Ross's advice and kept away from 1:00 starts early in the season...Can't wait

What do you think about trading up? I know it's not their style but either was Brandon Marshall. How about Ronnie and Pick 12 for Pick 2 if Suh is available?
The Fins need a good NT at the heart of a 3-4. The Trifecta covet a good NT and Suh sounds like he's in a league all his own. Detroit wants a RB. Doubt if the stars line up that way but they aren't too far off right now. If they want a second rounder for Ronnie where does the infamous JJ "draft value chart" value the 2nd overall? I bet the 12th overall and a second rounder (via Ronnie trade) is within the realm of possibility. But then a couple days before the draft anything is possible and speculating is fun. Only time will tell.

All that said I agree with Mando and think they take Morgan with the 12th pick. I would give Dan Williams a close second but I think they like Cam Thomas if he makes it down to them. Or they trade for Ronnie somewhere else and get there 2nd round pick.

Dansby will be able to play at a high level inside or out...either way I'm happy he is with us!!! :)

I know an Earl Thomas or Derrick Morgan/Sergio Kindle would make more sense, but i love the idea of having Wake,McClain,Crowder and Dansby as our Linebacker corps.

Imagine what Nolan could do with that group :)

It's all starting to look like win win situations.
This is why I love what the Trifecta has been doing. As a fan it seems like it's been painfully slow, but it really hasn't been.
Things are looking good in Miami again!

odinseye,

You do realise that Dansby played as an OLB in college?

Trust me,we would'nt be 'converting' him at all buddy

Posted by: Mark | April 19, 2010 at 02:48 PM

IN A 4-3, not a 3-4....

I say we have a 'Brandon' Draft

1st round Brandon Graham
2nd round Brandon Marshall
3rd round Brandon LaFell
4th round Brandon Spikes
5th round Brandon Carter
6th round Brandon Ghee
7th round I'm sure theres another Brandon somewhere in this years Draft LOL

Dansby will be able to play at a high level inside or out...either way I'm happy he is with us!!! :)

Posted by: bobbyd12 | April 19, 2010 at 03:15 PM

Good way to look at it. I'll be happy where ever Nolan decides to play him. He'll know where to get the best out of a great player.

Good one Mark.

I like Lafell and especially Spikes.

McClain in the 1st round
NT in the 3rd
OLB in the 4th

How does this projected starting line up sound:

CB1 - V. Davis
CB2 - S. Smith
CB3 - W. Allen
CB4 - J. Allen

FS - OJ Atogwe
Tulver
SS - Bell
Clemons
Linebackers will rotate with Dansby playing every down inside or out depending on situation.
OLB - Dansby
Rookie rnd #4
Taylor
ILB - rnd 1 - McClain
Dansby
ILB - Crowder
Torber
OLB - Wake
Taylor (rotate from left to right)

DE - Langford
DE - Starks
DE3- Merling
DE4 -McDaniels
NT - Solai
Rookie rnd. #3
Ferguson

That's a solid Defense ready to make a playoff run, with veteran leadership (Taylor, Dansby, Bell) and Young talent!!

Belichik would GLADLY give up a 2nd for Ronnie Brown. He has always been effusive in his praise- called him 'one a heck of a player' in one of his post game pressers. That's about as excited as that dude gets about any player (even on his own team). RB is good. Ronnie relies on his stutter step, head fakes, and has legs like tree trunks to finish off a run with power. Unlike speed backs who are done after an injury because they lose a step, this guy is good for the next 5 years and certainly a top 3-5 back in tyhe NFL. AP fumbles too much, and C Johnson is one knee surgery from losing his edge. RB is money in the bank and only an idiot would trade him for less than a 1st rounder and nobody is going to give that up - so he stays in my book.

Sounds perfect Jamillion

Is it me or is Thursday taking forever to come around...

pooooooooooooooop

Dear idiots who use stats to evaluate Brown,
Of course they arent eye popping numbers. Everybody and their grandmother knew to key on him with no passing threat. The fact that he led the league in tyards from scrimmage when he was hurt should be proof enough and he didnt have Rivers throwing to Jackson and Gates either. Or Rapeslesburger throwing to ward holmes and miller... or Flacco to Mason & Heap. C'mon think man- you can do better than that.

Mando you're hilarious with that video lol

'Rapeslesburger' LOL!!

See you all later. Time to go rope some trout. Spawning time in the spring creeks!

I'm just saying that with no 2nd of own, Detroits 34th pick or better would be tempting.
Ronnie has been invaluable to us.
In addition to not having played with great receievrs, other than 1 year with Pennington, he hasn't played with a QB either.
All of our RB's lives has just gotten easier thanks to Brandon Marshall and Henne's steady development.

DONT TRADE RONNIE BROWN PARCELLS!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WOULD NOT BE A GOOD FOOTBALL DECISION AND I THINK YOU KNOW THAT. WITH THE ADDITION OF BRANDON MARSHALL OUR RUNNING GAME WITH BROWN AND WILLIAMS IN IT IS GOING TO EXPLODE FOR SOME BIG YARDS!!!!!!!!!! IF ANYTHING SIGN RONNIE BROWN FOR ANOTHER FOUR OR FIVE YEARS HE DESERVES IT!!!!!!! AND SIGN JASON TAYLOR FOR TWO YEARS LORD KNOWS HE DESERVES IT!!!!!!!! IF YOU CAN TRADE DOWN IN THE FIRST ROUND THEN SELECT TAYLOR MAYS IN THE FIRST AND CAM THOMAS WITH YOUR NEXT PICK. OVER AND DONE! KEEP RONNIE AND JT!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted the other day from a site where Doctor's are quoted as saying he will not be fully healed till November

Posted by: bobbyd12 | April 19, 2010 at 03:10 PM

Thank you for the info, I did not know that, heart breaking news for me. (¡november!).

Bobbyd-
As you already know, I just got my season tickets and I can't wait to see the schedule. I love the 1pm start times cuz it gives traveling fans like me (Orlando) more time to hang out at the game, especially after we win! Not to mention the home field advantage!

Brian R...if u live in the West Palm area, we have some of the best rehab centers in the nation...whatever ur taking, there is help

Enrique, I hear u on that... I have a feeling if the NFL follows Ross's request the Phins will be playing 2 out of their first three on the road instead of later start times, if the grant the request at all...look forward to partying with u at the Stadium, whatever it's called LOL

Jeff Darlington has a live chat going on, gonna check it out

Attention all my beloved DOLPPIN FANS please check out Reshad Jones FS-Georgia, he is a monster...I'm talking like Mel Blount and Ronnie Lott...he is a surefire hitter. Please google this name and watch our next FS.

My Trade Sources tell me that we are going with Indian Punter Bali Patel from the University of India , Bangladesh !

Hey ya'll,
Consider this-Justin Smiley isn't in the offseason workouts. That shows the Fins don't want him. Ronnie Brown is in the workouts and is running fine with his injured foot. He just beat Ricky in a sprint from what I heard in a sun-sentinel.com blog. He is too valuable to the Fins to trade, and the Fins have the right to shoot down offers for him.

Posted by: Nando | April 19, 2010 at 04:25 PM

OH NO!!!! Don't get the Indians started.

The Greek Mafia was here yesterday and I couldn't understand a word of it!!!!

Ronnie is history if they can get Spiller. Who says that they are done on offense?

Ronnie has had some great games, but he does have a tendency to get hurt.

I like Spiller at 12 if he is still there.

Darlington opinions: Brown is being fished but probaly won't be traded//Smiley will be traded by weekend//JT will make decision by Wed on Jets//Pat White will be cut//Believes Morgan, Thomas or Williams will be there at 12

I just remembered another Brandon I had on my wish list from earlier in the off-season.

1. Brandon Graham - OLB - Michigan.

2. Brandon Marshall - WR - MIAMI DOLPHINS.

3. Reshad Jones - FS - Georgia.

4. Ricky Sapp - OLB - Clemson.

5. Brandon Carter - G - Texas Tech.

6. Terrell Hudgins - WR - Elon - Steal of the Draft

Todd McShays most over-rated player in this draft...Taylor Mays, has coverage problems and has stiff hips...most underated, Brandon Graham BUT he most be drafted into right system, 4-3...Kiper most over rated, Bruce Campbell, Most underated, Derrick Morgan, believes he will be a great player

Fins play Jets MNF at their new crap hole....

Pat White will be cut?

Addition by subtraction, how nice.

I guess we won't be trying to package Pennington in any draft day trades.

Henne, Thigpen and Pennington? That sounds like a good QB stable to me.

That guy,
You are on point my friend about Ronnie!

I can't wait to see how holes will open up for him and Ricky after the Marshall signing!!

As much as Cam Cameron sucked, the only good thing he did was properly use Ronnie Brown, like LT he became an all-purpose back and was leading the league big time in total yards from scrimmage before he went down (not his fault he got injured)

Aside from running a couple of wildcat plays per game, lets take a page out of Cam's book and screen Ronnie a little more. RB is due for a HUGE SEASON!! You all will see, he will bounce back strong and play the whole Year!!!!

Jamillion

My name is Earl Thomas... start chanting...

My name is Earl is a lovely pick!!

But it looks like Eagles are trying to do everything they can to bounce a head of us to get him. Who do you like if we miss out on my name is Earl?? Rolle in the 3rd round perhaps or OJ through free agency?

McShay and Kiper are neccessary evils.

Still I can't stand people that NEVER have to answer to their critics.

PS: McShay's wrong about Graham and the system. He will be equally effective in a 4-3 or a 3-4.
The guy is a straight up baller!

Odinseye, here's the explanation on the QBs, Thigpen is available, but Dolphins think they can make him more valuable but would part with an offer if blown away...Pennington, cannot pass an NFL physical to be traded right now...White is available but no one interested...personally I would be suprised if they cut a second rounder after only one year, that would be hard to take for fans...

Pat White will make it to TC, and only stick around if someone : WR or QB gets hurt. He will get cut after the 65 to 53 trim

CUT THE BUSTS ,DRAFT AND SIGNED ;

PAT WHITE
CROWDER
JT
MOSES
TURNER
JASON ALLEN

NOT R.BROWN .

I HEAR GREECE IN A HEAP OF TROUBLES ,THEY HAVE NO MONEY TO FEED THEIR PEOPLE ............FETTA ANY ONE ?

Jamillion,
I my name is Earl cant be had go with Sharper in FA.
Then try to develop Culver and Clemons

1st round ..... B.GRAHAM,OLB

3rd round ...... M.BURNETT or R.JONES,FS
4TH ROUND .......CAM THOMAS OR T.TROUP,NT
5TH ROUND .......J.GRAHAM,TE from the U

6+7 (6 picks) BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA

Bobbyd12,

Did Kiper mention whether Morgan is system limited?
Everything I've heard about him seems like he would be more of a 4-3 end than Graham.

Moses is the next LT according to his agent

YEAS ,I HEAR THAT TOO THAT MORGAN IS SYSTEM LIMITED .

Odinseye, I know u and Armando are high on Graham...I do agree with McShay on this one...I would rather have Kindle or Morgan, I still don't trust Graham covering the pass...IMO he will be a much better 4-3 player

Thanks for the info bobbyd12.

It would be unusual to cut a 2nd rounder after only a season.
Maybe they feel things are progressing quickly and they just want to put this experiment behind them ASAP.
I hope so. I like everything about the guy, just seems like he's not a good fit here all of the sudden.

Odinseye, actually he did, can't quote him but said he believes Morgan can play in any system...Kiper said nothing about Graham, it was McShay would picked Graham, but again he did say he must be in the right system 4-3

This is a GREAT part of the year for me, the Draft, baseball has had some incredible games and the Heat are in the playoffs!!! I'm glad I'm on vacation

BOBBY12,

ARE YOU ON VACATION ? I THOUGHT YOU HAD VACATION A MONTH AGO .
