Ross also issues statement re: Bryant incident

You read the statement from Rob Konrad in the last post defending Jeff Ireland. Now Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is also joining the statement releasing fray.

In his statement Ross does not condone Ireland asking Dez Bryant if his mother is a prostitute. But it should be noted Ross is also not exactly publicly reprimanding Ireland.

The statement:

"As an owner of many companies and organizations, including the Miami Dolphins, I have always strived to comply with the highest standards in all aspects of my businesses including recruiting.

"In interviewing employees we always look to obtain relevant and appropriate information in adherence with the best industry practices.

"Jeff Ireland has already apologized for questions asked of former Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant.

"I will be looking into this matter personally and will take appropriate actions if necessary."

Don't ask me what all this means. Frankly, I'm getting a little vexed by so many people saying, well, nothing.

Look, it was bad for Ireland to ask Dez Bryant if his mom is a prostitute. Ireland admitted as much by apologizing. If Bryant is not good with the apology, Ireland has a lingering problem. If Bryant accepts the apology, what else is there to talk about assuming Ireland doesn't do it any more?

i thought about that as i typed it.....good to know where your heads at!

Swede,
It was the Henne bomb to Ginn that was the news that night against the Jets.
Against the Colts I think Penne set the record for most time of possession by a losing team.
But I guess Penne shouldn't get all of the credit because the whole point of the wildcat is to make sure the QB never touches the ball, no?
In fact wasn't it the QB coach David Lee that suggested the wildcat as an improvement after Penne started 0-3 in '08?
Imagine that: a qb coach who suggests an offense that does not include the qb.
I'm glad Parcells brought Ireland (no GM experience) and Soprano (no head coaching experience) and Pennington twice (can't throw more than 10 yeards anymore) to the Fins. It really is a much better story than the b l o w j o b I got from a man 25 years ago while I was sleeping.

PM

i love the idea of the wildcat. when the QB hands off the ball, he is out of the play anyways....so why not give up the pretense that we might throw in order to gain an extra blocker?

i just cant stand how the talking heads of the media condense our whole team down to the wildcat.

but there is nothing more bada$$ than lining up with the game on the line against the jets at the goaline, showing we are going to run it, and then smash it right up the gut for the win......i think rex peed himself when that happened

btw, i think the initials PM might actually stand for "penis mention-er" instead of pricemaster because i have not heard anyone talk schlong more than a urologist before.....

I've clarified before and I'll clarify again:
I love the Dolphins.
I do not like the 3 stooges.

Wayne H turns over the keys to Parcells and all he can come up with are Ireland and Soprano?
Ireland was not qualified to be the GM in Dallas, and he wasn't.
Soprano was not qualified to be the head coach, and he wasn't.
Jerry Jones didn't even seek compensation for them going to the Phins that's how low regard he held them in.

Swede,
The next time I see men playing a pick up game of football, and one guy is running the wildcat, I'll assume it's you and hope that it works out for you.

I posted my objections to the wildcat, in this blog, from the first time they did it in game 3 of the 2008 season forward.

The wildcat is BACKDOOR foootball.

i guess you would know......

I am a totally effing a-hole.

"Look, it was bad for Ireland to ask Dez Bryant if his mom is a prostitute." - Mando
----------
I disagree. I think in the future, Ireland should be more outrageous. These potential draftees are SO well schooled in how to answer questions. In order to really know them, you have to interact with them in ways they aren't expecting. Next year, the college kids will be coached by their agent on how to answer unusual questions like if their mom is a prostitute.

It's like a virus building ammunity. Each year, you have to come up with new stuff.

If I were Ireland, next year I'd hire an ex-Army drill to just go off on the guy be interviewed (think Lou Gossett Jr. in An Officer and a Gentleman). Ask guys from Texas Tech if they're a steer or a queer and see how they respond. Like Rob Conrad said, they might not even care about the answer, they just want to see how you react.

If Ireland asks typical questions, he's going to get typical answers...."Yes, I can't wait to get in there and work hard. I'm a team player. I'll be the first one there and the last one to leave. Football is very important to me...yada, yada, yada."

Jeff, I'll be disappointed if you're NOT apologizing this same time next year. It would mean your not doing your job to the fullest.

Pricemaster what has Jerry Jones won since BP left Dallas? And what compensation would u be talking about? Since when does a
team get compensation when their Oline coach leaves to be head coach of another team?

As far as I am concerned, this is a non-issue. Let's focus on more important things like the guys on the roster.

I'm not an ESPN guy so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but did I really just see Dr Phucking Phil on NFL Live?!!

I hate to go off topic here but...........

Anybody realize how good our offensive line is going to be this year?
I've been checking our run game stats against injuries over the last two years. We've been solid regardless and awesome when healthy.
Adding Incognito and Jerry has me thinking it won't matter who we plug in at RB.
Sorta like the old denver offensive lines. Those guys made any RB look good.
Our offense is going to rule the line of scrimmage.

Well lets see...
When Parcells and Belicheck left the Pats to go to the Jets the Pats objected to the commissioner and got the Jets first pick in the next draft.
And then when Belicheck left the Jets after 1 day on the job as head coach to become the head coach of the Pats then the the commish stripped the Pats of thier first pick and gave it to the Jets.

In the case of Soprano and Ireland it was an o-line coach and a guy from personnel who didn't matter to Jerry Jones anyway.

The point is that these were not highly successful football people that Parcells brought in here. They are trainees.

Thank goodness Stephen Ross stepped in and hired Mike Nolan (our next head coach and/or gm). It was also Stephen Ross that made the Brandon Marshalll trade with Pat Bowlen.

Dolfan,

I started to watch it earlier. I saw the wussbag Phil and turned the channel.

WTF is the NFL coming too?

Odin,
I agree.
We'll put up 35-40 points/game this year.
We'll also give up 35-40points/game this year.
All through November and December we'll be playing meaningful games, entering the 4th qtr 31-28 with a chance to win every time.
And we'lll win some.
And it will be cool!

Pricemaster and people like him come on here and bash the trifecta relentlessly... If u hate them so much go root for another team already u whiner. These guys took a 1-15 team to 11-5. What do u want Cam Camoron or Dave Wannstache back?! This team hasnt been in such good hands since Shula left. Of course it was fans like U that got Shula fired and started the lost decade of failure in Miami. Seriously are u a Jets fan or something? Also the Wildcat is still an effective short yardage power run package. With Brandon The Beast now part of the team this package will be more effective than ever.

This story is getting old and dull, The man apologized. Dez accepted and now every one and their mother including the NFLPA wants crucification. Good thing Ireland didnt pull out pictures!!!****

Price,

You're just stirring s h i t.

How often does a Belicheat come along?

Who should Bill have hired? Who was available at the time that compares to Belicheat?

OMG, now you're pissing me off. You got me posting about another low life.

A coach cant leave a team to another team without compensation UNLESS he is getting a promotion. Look it up. Peace. Same applies to Ireland as since he got a PROMOTION.

suprFIN,

You know about pictures?
I haven't even been able to find arrest reports for prostitution.

This is all I got.

May 23, 2008 - The Lufkin Police Department made eight arrests late Thursday and early Friday. Arrests and charges included: Angela Bryant, 33, assault family violence, failure to identify;
Aug. 24, 2008 - Angela Dianne Bryant, charge dismissed for assault causing bodily injury/ family violence.
Aug. 15, 2009 - Angela D. Bryant, plea of guilty for possession of controlled substance-cocaine, 10 years deferred *

It's over and done for me. I'm not posting about it again!!!!

Thunderbolt,
Get a clue.
We don't run the wilcard anymore.
Doubt me?
Look at the last 6 games of last season and tell me how often we ran the wildcard.
Ronnie was hurt you say?
Well according to Mando he's on the trading block now.
The Ireland-Soprano-Penne-Brown wildcard axis is over.
The Stephen Ross-Chad Henne-Jake Long-Michigan axis is upon us.
You do know that Stephen Ross is a Michigan Alumnus and the biggest single contributor to Mich football don't you?
Stephen Ross loves Chad Henne so much he bought this team.
How many wildcat plays do you expect to see next year Bolt?

It's ok Pricemaster. Since THUNDERBOLT shot that one down you can come up with something else to b i t c h about while you wait for your next man on man love suckle you lame-ass Jest fan.

Odin we are now the most physical team in the AFC East. I wouldnt say AFC because the Ravens have that one on lock. Now with Marshall we have the monster receiver to match the run game.

Odin,

i'm with u on that, the more attention this story seems to get, the more i want to begin induced vomiting.

Price,

There's also a building on UM's campus named after him.
I agree with you that he loves Henne and Long. However I don't believe he as much pull as you think. Otherwise I'm sure we would have drafted Brandon Graham.

I'm with you on the wildcat. It should be and I'm hoping it is a thing of the past.

I dont mind running out of the wildcat in short yardage situations with ronnie and ricky, but its this constant need to run it 6-8 times on a single drive that becomes annoying especially with the ill-favored bust pick white out there

Remember BP can jump ship anytime he wants. Ross better have a FO in a box if he ever pulls rank on football matters because BP will raid the fins if he leaves for another team.

superFIN,

I'm glad you agree but please don't mention "induced vomiting".

I got in trouble with my girlfriend last weekend at my post-draft party.
There was this hottie there and she kept saying that she felt like she was going to throw up. After listening to this a number of times, I told her that I knew a good way to get her gag reflex going.
I thought I was just being funny. My girlfriend didn't.

superFIN,

Again, I agree with you. In certain limited situation I'm all for it. If it works-work it!

With Pat White, it wasn't working.

Good news is at least we didn't compound our pat white error in drafting tebow this year, Thankfully denver beat us to it...

That is good news. The next thing is WTF are we going too do with the guy?
With all the new guys on D we're not going to have a lot of roster spots laying around and we won't carry 4 QB's.
He hasn't done anything to garner any trade value either.
As talented as the guy is, I think the Trifecta will cut their losses and move on.

Ginn had tade value as a P/K Return specialist and we only got a 5th for him. White could'nt be traded for someone on the disabled list righ now...What a mistake!!! I read on cbssports that they were handing out past draft grades since 2007,, it was us, the rams and the raiders who recieved the only F's out of the whole league...pretty sad when u think that the only player left out of that class is the punter Brandon Fields.

Brandon Marshall's new number is 85. There on sale down here on Cal. I have pictures up on Facebook look me up become a friend moondragon toyz

Again we disagree...
Pat White outrushed CJ Spiller by 1,000 yards AND outpassed him by 6000 yards and 47 tds.

There is no way that Pat White does not get moved into the offense.

Apples to oranges you say?
Pat White played Chris Johnson (Titans) 4 times in college and Ray Rice (Ravens) 4 times in college and Brandon Marshall 2 times in college and Pat White was the dominant player on the field every time - look it up.

Need more?

Pat White and Steve Slaton (Houston) played in the same backfiled at WVU and White out produced him too - look it up.

What about on the Dolphins? Pat White had 21 carries for a 3.9 avg, identical to Lex Hilliard, Lex had 23 carries.

As he moves into the Reggie Bush type role this year we are all going to be real grateful that he is on our team.

And don't tell me he can't take a hit. History shows that Chad Pennington and Ronnie Brown are the ones that can't take a hit.

Superphin Paul Solai is also class of 2007. This is his make or break year.

2009 PAT WHITE STATS!!!

GAMES PLAYED 13
Passes attempted 5
passes complted 0
sacked 2
Rush attempts 21
total yrds-81 3.9 avg.
6.2 a game
1 lost fumble
Now i ask u, does that look like someone who should've garnered a #2 pick in the draft last year, NO i think not, Stats as we all know are good in college but its a whole new ball game when players enter the NFL!!!

Bolt,

yep, forgot about Paulie...almost another bust in the making.

Poor pat white. Just when u thought he was going to complete his first NFL pass he gets KTFO. Then Thigpen steps in without so much as a first team practice rep and throws two amazing touchdowns. IMO Thigpen is closer to being what Pat White is supposed to be.

Thanks guys for not mentioning the player that was not drafted by the dolphins. Thanks PM for always being wrong. U made it easy to get off that other subject. Lmao. Later dolfans.

Nicely done, Pricemaster

SuperPhin & Thunderbolt,
When Penne went out for the season (for the 4th or 5th time) in game 3 Pat White was the number 2 QB.
Please enlighten us, without sarcasm, what his production should have been by comparing and contrasting him to the other backup qb's around the league.
For example:
The Steeler's backup passed for____ and rushed for_____. Houston's backup passed for ____ and rushed for ____. NE's backup passed for ____ and rushed for ____. IND's backup passed for ____ and rushed for _____. The Jet's backup passed for _____ and rushed for ____. Minnesota's backup passed for ___ and rushed for ____.

Just give me one example of a backup that out produced White while that starter was healthy.

Pat White is not the dead weight on the roster - Patrick Cobbs is.

I love the Phins.
I do not like the 3 stooges.
bobbyd12 and Cuban Menace are my good friends.
I did let a man b l o w me and swallow all of it 25 years ago, but I did not find out it was a man until right before climax.
I'm out.

Ummmmm... This is the NFL... Not college. He's not the only "outstanding" college prospect to bust in the NFL either... Ryan Leaf is another, well he did complete a pass or two, and even made a couple of touchdowns, so no sorry, Pat White still sux... We wouldn't even get a 7th round pick for him... What a waste. :-(

Because there is a racial subtext to this. I don't believe Ireland would have asked this of a white player.

His deeply buried racism is pouring through.

PriceFixer:

You're just a dude playing a character.

No RATIONAL Human Being would actually have the opinions that you express.

It's good for a laugh to see how you affect most of these morons.
.
.

Racial... Nah don't play that card here. Dez was born of a 15 yo mom that by 18 had 2 more? And by a 40 yo man!!!! She also was a convicted crack dealer... Nah, black, white, yellow, or red that's just questionable... And before I give any kid millions of my dollars, I'd want to know if that's in his past or still very real to him? What's his character like now... Granted I would have asked about the drug use by the mother and if it still exists instead... But no no race that's a BS card to play.

Ireland is VP of football operations for a company that is worth a billion dollars. The question is not the question someone in his position asks. That is obvious. Did he think that she was going to come to Miami to set up shop?
The question has nothing to do with football. He easily could have investigated her with a couple of phone calls.
This kid has really done nothing to warrant this type of question. He stretches the truth. So what. He might need a bit of guidance. So what.
He could have asked. What is your Mom like? How do you feel about that? What did she do for a living when you grew up? How do you feel about that? These are the type of questions that a person interviewing an employee asks. Get him talking, have an audience, check his background to make sure he is telling the truth and then you know.
Ireland is a pompous jackass.

That was a very, very, very, bad question.I would be (not mad) angry.

since these people all make more money than most of us average joes, they are gonna be overwhelmed with hate mail and bombarded by people who are envyious and jealous, now im an average joe, but i love the game, im not a hater, if the NFL doesnt block out the medias, bombardement, and make this a further issue they really are not just, polarizing this Ireland incident but the whole NFL, I hope they see the public, has so much distain from figures who do make more money to play sports even just the reporters and talent scounts, all of them, this will not only grow legs but it will bring down the whole game, I can see these freaks all around me everyday wanting to do anything they can to disrupt our lives and pleasures, Be aware NFL, What ireland has done is just an example and should be talked about in house, and leave it alone or you will not only be destrying the integrity of this awesome game but you will allow, a bunch of yahoo,s to beat down a good man in Ireland, hey, We all make mistakes. Except for those who are ignorant, because their shtuff according to them doesnt shtink....and if you allow them they will never let it die..

here, here,Michael but I still would be angry if it was my mother.

I googled Angela Bryant and it only cost me $20

Why are you keeping this nonsense going?

I GUESS I DON't HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH>

ARMANDO

ASK JEFF DID HIS MOTHER HAVE A JOB?

IF NOT HOW DOES HE FEEL KNOWING SHE HAD A BETTER LIFE BY LAYING ON HER BACK AND OPENING HER LEGS?

DOES HIS WIFE WORK OR DO SHE LIVE A BETTER LIFE BY S U C K I N G HIM OFF?

SOUNDS LIKE S L U T S TO ME.

I'm DONE WITH THAT TOPIC EVERYBODY I HEARD ON ESPN RADIO FROM MIKE and MIKE TO THE HERD SAID IT WAS WRONG.

ESPN SAID THE SAME. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GAME.

AND MIKE WENT SO FAR TO SAY HE WOULD HAVE HIT HIM OR SPIT IN HIS FACE.

MOVE ON, END OF STORY!!!

Who cares. Stop lynching the guy. Bryants mother wasnt a nun and Ireland wanted to get info into what transgressions she had. He didnt solicit her. If he picks this guy and gives hime millions of dollars and it goes bust, everyone will kill him for it. maybe he wanted to see what Bryants reaction would be after being asked a question. Unfortunately he will probably lose his job due to political pressure. What nonsense.

Love to see what would have happened if a black gm said this to a white player. Answer: not a thing.

Why was the question improper? Bryant's personal problems were questioned openly (if vaguely) in the media throughout the pre-draft process. If his mother were a prostitute, potential problems could arise from that fact, ranging anywhere from public embarrassment to poor play by Bryant (off-the-field distractions or psychological issues) to, perhaps, another extreme scenario. Regardless, Bryant was about to become a star (even if in name only) wide receiver with an enormous amount of attention and pressure thrust on him. Any organization, especially one in the public spotlight such as an NFL team, should consider very carefully what it's getting into.
