A couple of interesting things this Sunday morning:
First off, Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post is saying that based on his conversations with other teams, it seems to him the Dolphins are looking to trade down from No. 12 in the first round. Perhaps the trade down I proposed last week isn't so crazy after all.
Bottom line here? Teams call other teams before the draft and talk about trading up and down all the time. Doesn't mean they're going to do it. Doesn't mean it is what they want to do. They are testing the waters so when they dive in on draft day, it isn't a shock to the system.
Having said that, every player the Dolphins seemingly have locked into -- Dez Bryant, Earl Thomas, Dan Williams -- seem to be rated slightly lower than at No. 12 by all the so-called experts. Maybe the Dolphins can gain a pick by moving down and still land their guy.
Next, Jason Taylor continues to be an issue because, well, because I choose to make it so.
In my column in today's Herald, I make the point that Taylor should just go ahead and call the Dolphins' bluff and go to the Jets.
If you are now aghast at the thought, get over it.
Man's got a right to work and the Jets are offering a job.
If you would consider J.T. some sort of turncoat if he goes to the Jets, let me pose a hypothetical question to you.
As much as you hate the New York Jets, what would you do if you were unemployed and Rex Ryan called you tomorrow and said, "The New York Jets will pay you $1.5 million to come work for them this year and $1.95 million for next year." You know that you'd hold your nose and take the job. If you say you would not, you're probably lying.
The amount of the deal isn't actually that important. A job is a job and you take it.
It's a business decision and you'd make it.
Jason Taylor is also entitled to make a business decision -- even one he doesn't necessarily want to make.
And if the Dolphins don't like the idea of that decision, they should step in and stop it. They have not done that so far.

I still want to see what Crowder brings to the table this year without Porter's hand up his butt making him his puppet. Apparently, the higher ups see a lot of potential in him or he'd be long gone by now because of his mouth. I also say if Ginn can't catch balls, rush him off a corner blitz. The worst he would do is go down in the fetal position but at least he would trip somebody.

there have been articles on this website months ago stating that the Dolphins will not make a move on Taylor until after the draft... JT knows their stance and it is his choice to go be with the dirty Jets...
Posted by: carlito from golfito | April 11, 2010 at 03:31 PM
Carlito are you not tired of this JT saga?
I could care less what he does. If he waits til the Phins decide after the draft he could miss out an a guaranteed offer he would have currently. It is all business, on both sides.

wene miami is in denver i go every year.alot of dolphin fans here pretty koo.i also love we beat denver in denver like 6 out last 7 games it's great!lol

@ j precise, I actually attend my first home Dolphin's game last season when they played the Bucs. My wife planned it for me for my 30th birthday and kept it a surprise for over a year. We even took our kids to the game with us, it was such an awesome experience. I'm a country boy born and raised in WV and now raising my family in KY, so they aren't to many people around who are Dolphin fans (or even have all their teeth), but to be at the stadium on game day was pretty overwhelming. I hope you get to experience it for yourself one day.

I was going to write a note here about the Jason Taylor saga but I read the letter by Josh and he had already written it for me virtually word for word.
Great minds think alike bud.

Hugh Morgenstein.... generally when some douche-bag starts his post with "Some of you people lack intelligence" I move on because I am certain they are not writing about myself... However, Your the one douche-bag I have decided to make an exception for... Why? you may care to ask... Because I just wanted to see how good of an argument one could offer for Mr. Taylor in this instance... I must say Sir. Yours sucks. Not only sucks... but sucks and not good.
JT making money is not at issue in his presumed departure. And that is why I made the comments I did previously. It is much more personal then that. If it were about the cash, he would not be taking an offer from a team that is dramatically limited to what they can offer because of the "Final Four" rule. Do you know and understand this rule, Huge? Or are you just as incompetent and stupid as you like to accuse others of being?
If this was about JT making money... he would be fielding the offers that will CERTAINLY come his way once everyone has finished their drafting. See, unlike yourself... Teams are not ASSUMING they know what the future will bring, so they are in a hold pattern... just like OUR TEAM IS. Once drafting is complete, you can be certain JT will be a valuable commodity on either Miami or another teams roster.
There are two reasons Wex Whynin is offering JT a deal 1. Its cheap labor 2. It places a stake through the hearts of many of Miami fans and creates a schism in the fan base. And I'll bet your Matzah Balls and Gefilte Fish he loves the thought of that whole scenario.
Nice try to bring down others to exalt yourself above them... but your are sorely over matched in this arena.

The JT thing is exactly what it is, a business decision like you said Mando. I absolutely hate the YETS more than any team in college or professional sports. Was real close to fighting a Yet fan at the bar last week, but as usual, all bark and no bite...
As someone else pointed out, I wold be more disappointed if we don't sign Zach Thomas and let him retire a Dolphin, that decision is absolutely in their hands. GET THAT PETITION STARTED MANDO!

Guys, we have to respect the fact that the Phins want to get younger and JT is not a kid anymore, which is why they signed Chad P and Ferg to extensions......

Right On :^d ... I hated it when I could never see Miami games out there. That whole State is all about the Broncos... if you are a fan of any other team your screwed. I had to get a dish with the NFL channel just to see our games.

Tell ya the truth J... its cheaper here then there. Gas is cheaper, food is cheaper... and depending on how your set up... so is rent. Only thing that is tough in FL. Is insurance and buying a home... economy for those two issues is in the toilet.

I have been reading a few pieces about how Miami may be looking to trade down... I am not certain I buy into that. I believe they may be getting a look at what is available if they do like Armando said.... but I still believe they will take a player at 12.

what people still havent realized is that parcells is an ego maniac. as soon as he got here he got rid of zach and jt, the faces of the franchise. and like a week later the team's billboards came out all over miami with parcells and only parcells. also the first thing on the team's website was of course parcells. he likes to recieve the credit for turning a team around. everyone who defends him says that he turned the team around from 1-1-15 to 11-5. But what did he really do? 1-15 team was killed by inujuries. we had our backups backups playing. 11-5 everyone was healthy. main reason for turnaround was we lucked into pennington. that wasnt a genious move by parcells, just jets stupity, it fell into his lap. The defense was almost exactly the same as the year before. Basically the only difference on offense was Smiley and Long(which was 1st pick in draft, not anything parcells did to get it). Parcells got way too much credit for turnaround. A healthy Ronnie and team, and having pennington as opposed to cleo freakin lemon as your quarterback made the differnce. In fact look at the team's best players the last couple of years, almost all of them were already here. Ronnie, Ricky, Bell, W. Allen, JT, Camarillo. Only good signings were smiley (soon to be gone) and starks. Lets look at all of his bad moves:
ernest wilford, cris crocker, eric green, michael lehan extension, reggie torbor( overpayed backup) gibril wilson, shawn murphy, patrick turner (so far), pat white in 2nd round (may be good in future, but didnt make an inmpact for being a 2nd round pick, and was taken to throw out of wildcat, yet only threw like 2 times). And Josh McCown, who would have been our starter that year if pennington hadnt been cut a couple of weeks before season. If not for that, parcells plan wa to have mccown as starter in 2008. Does anyone think we would have gone 11-5 with mccown.
Also lets look at draft:
took merling when the best wr of draft (desean jackson) was still on the board. I remember hoping he'd fall and when he did i was thrilled but of course parcells wont draft wr in 1st round. Look at jackson now, and we still dont have a number 1 reciever. I also hate how he takes out players out of his draft board because of things like height. Like that measures how good a player is. If parcells were her in the past we would have never had zach thomas or jason taylor (one too short, one too skinny)
Ireland calls JT a progress stopper. Progress stopper to who exactly? You'd maybe understandif we had some young studs behind him. But Walden and Moses? Really? Wake seems good but he'll play one side, what about the other. Even if we draft olb's, it can't hurt to have JT. Just like it didnt hurt to bring back Pennington as 3rd or 4th QB. Also, they played him out of position (wrong side) last year and took him out on passing downs, and he still was 2nd on team in sacks. I'm sure Rex would use him correctly. And final reason its stupid not to sign him, is he'll go to the stinkin jets.

Berry.
Morgan.
Graham
Kindle
Earl
Top picks for2010
Posted by: aquaandorange | April 11, 2010 at 05:14 PM
My top 5 are the same players, but the order has changed drastically... I really like Berry, but I don't think he will be there at 12, so I don't include him...
1. Dan Williams
2. Dez Bryant
3. Rolando McClain
4. Earl Thomas
5. Derrick Morgan
Posted by: carlito from golfito | April 11, 2010 at 05:17 PM
j-precise, Not everyone, friend.
Posted by: Liepers Fork, TN | April 11, 2010 at 05:19 PM
berry will be gone
morgan maybe if jax don't get at 11
graham would be reach @12 maybe 20
kindle reach also 20
earl reach her to maybe 20.
so this leaves it up to morgan or dez bryant.
or trade down for more picks??
my pick trade down 1rst.
dez bryant if pk @12.
Posted by: j-precise | April 11, 2010 at 05:20 PM
if that happens you will hear 'HENNE TO BRYANT TOUCHDOWN".for years too come!!!!!!!
Posted by: j-precise | April 11, 2010 at 05:22 PM
Earl Thomas is ranked as scouts inc's #7 prospect in the entire draft... don't sleep on him, he is not a reach at 12, neither is Dan Williams, he could go at 9 to Buffalo or 11 to Denver
Posted by: carlito from golfito | April 11, 2010 at 05:26 PM
carlito from golfito, I like your top five. Lets hope it happens that way.
Posted by: Liepers Fork, TN | April 11, 2010 at 05:27 PM
miami is yet to meet with williams.
but dez,morgan,thomas,mcclain have.
still say it's down to morgan or bryant.
williams maybe but long shot as we could get one his calibar in 2nd or 3rd.bryant not so much!!!
Posted by: j-precise | April 11, 2010 at 05:29 PM
I still think its Dan Williams, with the 12th pick.
Posted by: Liepers Fork, TN | April 11, 2010 at 05:29 PM
J-Precise,
They had a week of coaching and working with him up close at the senior bowl, I'm pretty sure they know what they would be getting with Dan Williams
Posted by: carlito from golfito | April 11, 2010 at 05:30 PM
i think thomas is a great player but berry and mays infront of him hurt him.willimas is a 1 year wonder.i would much rather have linval joseph or cam thomas.thomas will not go before 10 you can take that to the bank.
Posted by: j-precise | April 11, 2010 at 05:32 PM
Decision coming by mid-week, for jason taylor. So What.
Posted by: Liepers Fork, TN | April 11, 2010 at 05:34 PM
There is no way Taylor Mays is in front of Earl Thomas! Mays is an athletic guy, but he sucks as a free safety... He is more suited as a strong safety or outside lb in a 4-3... Mays will not go until the late 20's or early 30's
Posted by: carlito from golfito | April 11, 2010 at 05:35 PM
a week with him than nothing not even a meeting.but yes they still could take him.i would'nt mind but i think joseph and thomas will be better at this leavl of play.
Posted by: j-precise | April 11, 2010 at 05:35 PM
Some scouts even have Earl Thomas ranked ahead of Berry
Posted by: carlito from golfito | April 11, 2010 at 05:35 PM
I'm out for a while fellas
Peace Out
Posted by: carlito from golfito | April 11, 2010 at 05:37 PM
i don't think nt is as heavy as first thought.
i think their are only a hand full that will come off the board fast.
d.williams,t.cody,l.joseph,c.thomas,t.troup.
after that i don't think there's much there.so if i'm right the nt's will come off fast.
like joseph&thomas in the 2nd round.
Posted by: j-precise | April 11, 2010 at 05:40 PM
i don't know mays is that big and can run a 4.4
so maybe he can cover.maybe it was there schem at usc?maybe not?mays is a tough one to peg.
dude would be a beast in nolan's system.
not saying we will draft him.

Didn't JT a year ago give up 9 million
dollars because he didn't want to be away
from his family with the Reddkins.
JT been fairly frank about his dispise
for the jets. I can't see it happening.
This whole thing is because JT wants
to be stroked by the fins as he was his
entire career. The bitterness over dancing
with the stars is still there.
