Surprise at FS coming for the Dolphins?

The Dolphins had a surprise plan at nose tackle. They didn't find a good one early enough in the draft to fill the spot so they simply moved defensive end Randy Starks there.

Well, they face a similar situation at free safety.

Today they didn't pick a free safety candidate until Reshad Jones was the pick at the bottom of the fifth round. Jones joins Chris Clemons and Tyrone Culver at the position.

Well, what if the team has a surprise here as well?

How about moving cornerback Will Allen to free safety? How about moving Sean Smith to free safety?

I would love to tell you moving Jason Allen, a former first-round pick, might be an idea. But that's been tried a time or two before. No one really believes that would resolve the search for a starting free safety.

Bottom line is Miami needs a Plan B at this position. Maybe that plan includes a free agent "acorn." But maybe that plan is already on the roster.

[Update: I asked Ireland if moving one player from another spot to safety: "I guess there's a thought there," Ireland said. "We haven't really talked it out in depth. We needed to get through this process and see what we have. But I probably would not bet on that."

Or hopefully we can get the safety from the rams after all.

finally after 1 year of reading this blog
im 1st

Sharper for one year, let the younger guys learn from him

Why does everyone think that the guy who's greatest highlight was being stiff-armed to the ground by Moss could EVER play safety?!

Not First!!!

or maybe o.j otogwe is the pick... would be nice

What about Bell starting. Dude is a beast with the run, needs practice with reading the coverage. But he hits hard, I think his nickname should be HellsBells because he'll knock the hell out of someone

I don't think they should be moving ANY of our corners to safety. Either sign Atogwe or Sharper OR get one of the 3 young safety's currently on the roster in there and see what we've got.

The picks are in, except for the undrafted longshots. Lets see how they pan out through the Fin's filter of heat and Sparano. More surprises may well be in store for Fins Fans than we even considered. Much of this draft contains versatility.

What if the men upstairs really believe Culver, Clemons or Reshad can get it done. Can any of them be worse then Gibril?

i'd love to see sean smith at safety..but i don't think he's that much of a hitter..as for range and covering the field he has all the ability in the world..plus i like vontae and will allen as our starting corners..I think reshad jones can be more than capable of filling that void..Now im waiting to see who will be on the squad that went undrafted we always pick up atleast 2-3 ppl

Starks is no NT. How did that work out last yr while he split time at that position with Solia after Ferg. went down ? BETWEEN HIM AND SOLIA,WE HAVE ONE DE AND ONE BACKUP NT. Now we put our best DE at NT and START a ROOKIE? Bad plan amigo.we passed up several choices for NT. Cam Thomas comes to mind. There were better options for OLB as well and safety. So what the Hell happened? Really dissapointed in the picks. Hope I am wrong.

You can bet with all the LBs we got over the weekend that we will be trading soon.

Mock my words, Reshad is gonna blow everyone away in training camp and he WILL be our starting safety. This kid is a yound Woodson... With time to learn and adjust he's a future probowler..

Jason Allen has indeed been told he will be moving back to safety this season. Not that I think this is an answer for the position, but it is happening.

Miss Little Girl

A little off topic here, but why did we pass on Cam Thomas in the 5th? Was he too tall for NT? Anyone?

Also I think it would be smart to sign L Blount to the practice squad and see if he has cleaned up his act. I think we could most def use him; he's a beast

1st option Atogwe
2nd option Hamlin (Parcell and Irland take him to Dallas)

Sharper for one year, let the younger guys learn from him

I like this idea, I was saying thismorning that Sean would be a good at s so I also like that

Honestly, if I didn't know better, I'd swear we had two rookies picking on behalf of the fins. This draft for Miami sucked. The jets and Pats have just become far and away the leaders of our division.

Why do Jets fans boil water when a baby is being born?

In case it dies during birth they can make soup!

Will Allen makes sense at FS.

I have been thinking a great move would have been to take advantage of sean smith's ball abilities and siza and move him to fs, he would be able to play center field and play man coverage on the slot reciever. Problem is we needed to take a corner early in the draft to fill the nickel position or start over will allen, we did not do that so we have to make a splash through FA or roll with whats on the roster at the Safety position....my vote in that case would have to be for cris clemmons...

Dan boils water too.

How bout making a move for Kenny Phillips??

Good call on Hamlin, totally forgot he was out there.

I agree with you Afinfan74. When I see film on Reshad it makes me think of Louise Oliver. Receivers will need to tread lightly in his area of the field.

Well, in looking at the positions we drafted, I would have to give these guys an A. Every player drafted filled a need on this team. Hopefully, when we look back in 3 years, 3 or 4 of these guys will be anchors for that team. That's all I hope for at this point because I don't know jack about any of them.

The guy that sticks out most for me is the guard. 6'5 330-Can't wait to see him pull and take on LBs. That should be fun to watch.

Also how ironic would if be to have a guy named Blount on the same team as Ricky. I wish we would sign him, clean him up with a life coach or medicine, but he'll be a beast

So why did Lang not get picked up?

I was thinking they were moving Will Allen or even J. Allen to FS when they drafted Nolan Carroll.

@ Dan, then become a Jets or Pats fan. The rest of us have devoted our lives to be loyal fans of the Dolphin organization, good or bad. But face it man, if we all survived the 1-15 season, this draft is like winning 3 straight Super Bowls. Now put your big girl panties on and quit crying cause dude we don't want to hear the whining

Sean Smith and Vontae had great seasons as rookie corners, and they're only going to get better. Why mess with that? Sign a safety (Atogwe,Sharper)or let one of the young guys play. Sheesh.

The team has given the job to Clemons until proven other wise. Originally they wanted a veteran back there, but if they are going young they will allow Clemons to prove himself.

Draft summary: epic fail. part one of two. Offense. They failed to add depth on offense. No RBs, TEs, WRs and one massive OG. The day before Alan Faneca was unceremoniously dumped by the Jets. Not only did they not add depth they also failed trying to deal some of the depth they do have to add more picks. They didn't trade Ronnie Brown (injury prone), Pat White (skill-deprived) and Justin Smiley (injury prone).

I give the draft for mia a C+ but if that Misi guy actually starts and can cover TEs that would be HUGE for our team,, at least 2 more wins for sure

It would be nice to be able to pick up a free agent rookie who can return kicks, seeing as we dont have anyone now. Let's see what happens in the preseason/trainiing camp. I will agree no one can be worse at FS than Wilson.

Sharper is not coming here guys!!! His agent was interviewed last week, NO has placed an offer on the table, the agent all but said he will take it...Sharper stays on NO

it would be nice to have sex in the dark without any one watching my as.

T. Martin- Epic Fail? Offence off season summary: Trade for Brandon Marshall. Huge upgrade. They've been wanting to get another guard and they got him...in the 3rd. Good value there. RB's? We have 4 on the roster. How many do you want? It will be a need, but not yet. TE? They feel Fasano will rebound from '09 and they like Sperry. WR? You don't think Marshall will be a beast and open the field up for Bess, Hartline, and Camarillo? Epic fail? I don't think so.

Guys I love the jones pick. Does anyone else see him more of a ss then fs?? Correct me if I'm wrong.. Thanks!

Draft summary: epic fail. part 2 of 2. Defense.
They ran off the best defensive player in the team's history and quickly got to work skipping down to draft the 11th and 12th highest rated OLBs in the draft. Completely ignoring guys like Sergio Kindle (don't tell me about the knee, the Ravens track record speaks pretty well to taking LBs with perceived warts), Navarro Bowman, Greg Hardy, Ricky Sapp. They took a DE so they could move another DE to NT. If he's the answer why didn't he play there last year? If they wanted a DE why not take Derrick Morgan? They again ignored DT/NT guys like Dan Williams, Cam Thomas, Geno Atkins, Lamarr Houston, Linval Joseph, Brian Price, Jeff Owens, Al Woods, you get the idea. Then they took a safety that the staff @ Ourlads says often looked like the best player for the other team, dropping INTs, missing tackles and taking bad angles. When again they could have had Earl Thomas or an under-the-radar stud from Utah in Robert Johnson. Then they spent the rest of their picks on a CB, an OLB and an ILB that weren't even projected to be drafted and could have been had as UFAs. This was a disaster. At least natural disasters usually come and go in a day. This one dragged on and on for three days. What a waste of time. A chimp could have fared better throwing darts in the dark.

See what I mean, sone jag off from Burbank Ca gets on here to criticize...no one gives two shyts what some guy from Burbank Ca thinks...I guess his guy didn't get picked either

i would much rather develop both of our 5th round picks and in a year or two clemons jones duo will be reckless crushing everybody back there. ah what a dream lol

see guys, i love to make love in the dark but no witness .

Hey my fake P u s s y stalker with the man crush is back...

Idiotic to move Sean Smith to FS when he's
just learning CB and has the size to shut
down the big guys.

Parcells, Ireland, and Sparano have drafted 2 starters in the first 2 rds the last 2 years. I think they did the same this year. That's a nice track record if you ask me. I thought passing on Cam Thomas in the 5th was a little suspect, but I'm putting my trust in the Trifecta. They'll get us there.

How's it feel to be such a detestable lowlife phony??? Makes u feel good to be such a worthless piece of shyt??

Dolphins should sign rookie FA Leroy vann for return duties type his name on YouTube and Armond Willis from FIU OLB check these guys out..

these defense is gonna be pathetic

test , you just a jet fan ,screw you .

they are HIGHlights i have youtubed every single player we have picked and they all look like studs we need to see actual game film and we will not be able to do that till preseason.

How about all the busts that come out of rounds 1-4 guys? Every year there are a select few that play up to the hype..the rest are either traded, sent to the farm team, or wind up flipping burgers at micky d's. So many more players that are picked up in the later rounds and players that aren't the buzz of the draft by the "so called experts/analysts" wind up being good or projects that come to light. So who now will be stepping up or Miami from the draft a year or two ago??? Any thoughts? So for all the whiners and complainers..we will call you the wham-bulance to take you to the whinery. We did fine in this draft !

test... these grammar is gonna be pathetic

From what I have seen the 3-4 defense needs a monster in the middle .... at least 330 lbs ... Cody would have been perfect .... or Dan Williams.

Im not saying I dont like Oddrick .... he sounds like he can be a great player for Miami ...... but he seems to be a clone of Starks. Why dont we consider going to a 4-3 defense ..... with Oddrick and Starks at DT ......

Sean smith would be a FS stud. He's got the size and ball skills but he lacks the quickness to cover the best WRs as a corner. He's always in the right spot in coverage. Needs work at tackling. Pretty soon 1/4 of our D will have gone to college at Utah lol

Hahahahahahahah test is
g a y
