Surprise at FS coming for the Dolphins?

The Dolphins had a surprise plan at nose tackle. They didn't find a good one early enough in the draft to fill the spot so they simply moved defensive end Randy Starks there.

Well, they face a similar situation at free safety.

Today they didn't pick a free safety candidate until Reshad Jones was the pick at the bottom of the fifth round. Jones joins Chris Clemons and Tyrone Culver at the position.

Well, what if the team has a surprise here as well?

How about moving cornerback Will Allen to free safety? How about moving Sean Smith to free safety?

I would love to tell you moving Jason Allen, a former first-round pick, might be an idea. But that's been tried a time or two before. No one really believes that would resolve the search for a starting free safety.

Bottom line is Miami needs a Plan B at this position. Maybe that plan includes a free agent "acorn." But maybe that plan is already on the roster.

[Update: I asked Ireland if moving one player from another spot to safety: "I guess there's a thought there," Ireland said. "We haven't really talked it out in depth. We needed to get through this process and see what we have. But I probably would not bet on that."

OJ is coming to town.

Great pick up with Jones!!

Is it possible to trade some of our fans?

I agree with you about the scondary. Keep upgrading and keep bringing in young guys to push the older ones.
It's Parcell's 101 and it's working. I don't know if you've seen any tape on Jones, but if you haven't you should.

Not a need for the Jets.

By the mentality of most of the whiners here they could have picked up a weapon for Their O as they have some short term WR patches but nothing long term. Will say they can trade him or another starting CB for a gain down the road.

I like some of the signings they made after the draft, especially the NT Ivey...he was projected as a possible third rounder...very nice

The Jets will fall apart with the egos that they have accumulated. To many chiefs not enough Indians.

They lack hunger and youth.

You heard it here first.
Sean Smith will be the most improved player on the team and he wasn't bad to begin with.
Will Allen will be regulated to nickle, dime and depth.
Clemons will start at FS and Reshad will be breathing down Bell's back.

clemens/culver/jones...deal with it people!

cromartie is a free agent and not good, that rookie will take over next year for the jets

I'm not arguing about Starks abilities or talents.
I'm just saying that in my opiniom he's just too good of a DE to use as stop gap NT.

odinseye, I can't argue with you, I just hope the most improved player this year is Wake...He is the one guy I feel has to step it up the most

odinseye, that would be what I would loove to see. just not sure if clemons has the mental part down yet from what i have read but OOOO YEAH that sounds great 2 me!!

agree we have no clue what wake can do for a full game. he came in fresh when everyone else was tired in the 4th quarter.

undrafted free agents travis ivey and vince oghobase is a beast---was a fringe 3rounder last year---im loving those two signings i think crowder and merling days are numbered---

Go get george johnson ---and im good

Wake will be the "runner up" most improved player-LOL.
Seriously, I suspect Wakes improvement will be due to hard work and being used properly in a new system that fits him well.

Ivey and Oghobaase got me dreaming of another Fergie like find.

so merling who parcells drafted with the first pick of the second round 2 years ago only and crowder who parcells just resigned for a bunch of money are on their way out? as u see none of these guys we just got are close to a sure thing

Anyone believe Pat White "won't" be cut after camp??? Looks like this team is cutting it's loses and pressuring this defense to step it up or be gone...this is going to be a great camp

culver will be cut---clemons, jones, bell locks---i think a vet will be added

please cut pat white, another bad pick

Odinsye I think sorry if I spelt it wrong but Ireland said starks is our starting nose

Not sure if posted but heres our signed undrafted free agents

Travis Ivey, DT, Maryland
AJ Wallace, CB, Penn State
Ross Weaver, DB, Michigan State
Vince Oghobaase, DT, Duke
Roberto Wallace, WR, SDSU
Jonathan Amaya, DB, Nevada

About 2 months ago Darlington did an article on Crowder...he said one of his knees is bone on bone, the cartlidge is just about gone...He is a tough SOB to play like that but his carreer is in jeopardy if it's true...

After looking at upcoming schedule, I see 11-5

Show me one thing other than death and taxes that is a "sure thing".

If we knew the "sure thing" we would be SB Champs every year .

name those 11 wins? i see 6-2 at home with a few breaks. 3-5 on road

Got a good shot at the Playoffs.

Can you pick some stocks for me billbill, I need the cash.

Bobby get back to your vacation chump. This SOB is on "vacation" and spends all of his time on this blog. WTF?????
Go back your wife needs you. Blind, but needs you.

i like your passion just saying, but hard to have a good shot at playoffs when your the third best team in your own div, agree?

jr1jrn, nice to see ur so worried about what I do with my time...listen, if I want to talk to a penis I'll unzipper my fly...put ur old wrinkly A"S in bed

Sh*t billbill, tell us what games we won’t win and we will pass it on so we can just forfeit em and save the wear and tear on our players.

Better yet, go to work and pay ur taxes, my paycheck counts on u, no matter how little u make, every penny counts LMFAO @ you

Bobbyd, honest convo here, no bs, no negativity, why are you so positive? Not disagreeing, just a question I'd like an answer to. IMHO you can't cut pat white as a second round pick after just one year, if you can then unless he has a great camp pat turner is gone too. Here's why I'm not positive: we needed a wr and we got a great in Marshall and got rid of ginn, so that's great, I wouldve liked to draft one, but I guess not, but it brought our greatest need to safety, and olb and nt and te, and rb. And as far as I can see the draft didn't touch our needs. No rb, hilliard isn't it, so screwed there. Still 'ni answer for free safety, so screwed there. Since apparently we are not keeping smiley, we have no great player at the guard position. Another point, no return man, so it's back to being one of the worst kickoff return teams in the league again. When we were powerful on d, we had jt on one side and ogunleye on te other. Now we have starks, who isn't guaranteed to do it year in year out, and we pull him to nt? For odrick, an inconsistent de at best. And instead f drafting Jerry Hughes and Sergio kindle (couldve gotten both), we draft miserable misi? He doubled his sack total senior year but he underperfrmed soph and junior. Our front is hurtin in ways I've never seen with the dolphins. And, instead of making Ronnie brown expendable in trade or draft, we've made it so we can't live without him. We are still stuck with fasano, who did nothing last year. My point is this: for the last five years our draft picks have turned out as bad as anybody in the league. Hardly any of the players are still on the team, or any team. But this is the year I thought we would turn it around. And unless I am way off (and I hope I am), this was the worst one yet. Worst still, is the dolphins have not been talking about wanting any of these players badly except maybe odrick. This is me trying to have an intelligent convo here, with respectful disagreements. If Bobby can't, hope someone can. Make sense of this atrocity for me!

We are the BEST in our division until some one proves we are not.

so merling who parcells drafted with the first pick of the second round 2 years ago only and crowder who parcells just resigned for a bunch of money are on their way out? as u see none of these guys we just got are close to a sure thing

You know what I say billbill?

Grind em in, grind out. The ones that can't hang, ain't worth keeping.

Awful, awful draft. I would be shocked if we found a single starter in the whole bunch. Jared Odrick? Koa Misi? A.J. Edds? The only good value pick we got was John Jerry (but we didn't even really need him!). And Reshad Jones is purely a STRONG SAFETY, not a free safety, what the hell were they thinking? We needed Earl Thomas, Terrance Cody, Sergio Kindle, Morgan Burnett...not a bunch of special teamers and 2nd stringers! What the hell Parcells???

billbill 9-7 10-6, would be a good solid year like to see us get in the playoffs this year and win one, that would be great

Hell yeah Odin! Thats what i'm talkin bout!

We ain't Buffalo!

I watch this sh*t year after year and I ain't ever gonna concede that we aren't the best in the east baby!

so just saying, the bills are best in div till someone proves their not, right?

agree bobby, 9-7 and a playoff win to end the drought would be huge. no way 11-5

inimounts, that @zzz wipe BobbyD12 cannot talk to you in a normal conversation. Wait after reading this he might fake it. The guy is a 100% pure preeeck. He probably in the last 3 days surpassed NJ as the most hated on these blogs. NJ is sitting back and LHAO I bet. NJ is smart, Bobby is a smart@zzzz.

We all start 0-0

If memory serves correct, we swept the jets and with split withe pats. We also played a tougher schedule than either of them.

Anybody claiming that were the third best in the conference is either stupid or a jet fan.
Either way, same difference.

Inimounts, think about this. Bobby is so pyscho, he checks the old blogs for responses and posts responses. I know what you are thinking, but it is true. He goes back to check like a pyscho. i should know becuase I am one. NJ has been pretty docile the last 3 days. I give him kudos for that. Why not let some other monkey take the shyt. hahahahahha

they fu!@#$g better do something at safety.

I agree with everybody who is complaining about our picks....

I think we should have taken Eric Berry, CJ Berry, Jerry Hughes, and Dan Willaims in the first three rounds...

What was the FO thinking???

Why play the game, the Pats are hands down the best by what the press said in 08 and now the Jets are the best this year.F*ck that sh*t.

The Pats are the worst 18-1 team in history and the Jets got put in there place by us and the Colts last year.

We kicked their a s s 3 times in a row.

Cant wait for the next game.

Not only that, I think we should trade all of our next years draft picks for Big Ben because Henne threw some int's last year...

Come on guys, get over it already.........

Bring it!

Inimount intelligent post, I disagree with you. So now I will call you a Jets fan, loser, basement bozo, or claim to bang your mom. Is that not what Bobby would say?

I just don't get it. We needed a NT, not filled. We needed a FS, not filled. Our D is going to be our downfall yet again.

I would disagree with you on this draft. And a few other things. No way will pat white be cut. No way, no how! I don't see FS as that big a deal. We have 3 starting caliber CB's, bell is solid. I think both clemmons abd culver are upgrades over Wilson. But we did draft a safety and corner and we have plenty of time to still add. Odrick is a very solid DL. He will stuff the run. I like starks inside too. He played inside on passing downs and was disruptive. Langford is a very good end. More depth would be nice! Inside LB we are better. Dansby and crowder. Outside Anderson was great when he got in, wake a great pass rusher. Misi is much better than youvare crediting him. He is big and can cover a TE. I see him more as a starter with wake as the guy on passing downs. The draft really gave us plenty of depth on defense. I think TE ahould have been addressed but WR is strong. RB is strong, for this season. Next will be lots of need!! I don't think we are a SB team. But we are a much better team than last year. TE is in big need. I think worse than any other spot.

Look at it this way... There is no way the FS position can be any worse than last year... Culver/Clemons can't be any worse than Gibril..

right on kris. bobbyd12 is a shining example of what a true government worker sounds like. he says he deals with garbage all day but he talks and acts like the garbage he despises.

I agree with bobby...

I am going to bang anyones mom who doesn't like this draft.....

Awwww screw it....

I'll do it even if you did like the draft....

Inismounts, we just got two different ways of looking at things...where u see a need at RB, I see none THIS year..I like Lex Hilliard alot and think he will get his carries....Next year there will be a great class of UFA RBs and the 2011 Draft to replace Ricky n Ronnie...Drafting Jerry is a guy who can play both guard n tackle positions...receivers, of course we got Marshall which is a huge upgrade but we also got Hartline and Bess who I like...like I've said many times I want to see what Turner brings to the table, we picked up an undrafted WR and a kid from Canada last year on the practice squad...FS I all along believed Clemmons or Culver would be the man, and there will be competition in camp for that spot,..Odrick will anchor that defensive line for years to come..I mean I can go on but what you see as negatives or needs I see as positives or no needs...yes I thought we shoulda took a TE , didn't happen...for 14 years I have been a season ticket holder and this is the most excited I have been in a loonggg time..you obviously have a different vision for the team...I like old time smash mouth, eat up the clock, punishing defense type football...You don't, nothing will change that, I'm going to continue to stay positive and passionate because Parcells is building the kind of team I like...that's how I feel
