Time to open the Salguero mailbag

As this blog has been inconsistent in posting your comments the past couple of weeks days and I'm told the problem might not be totally fixed until May 6th, I figured I would share some comments readers have e-mailed me recently.

I try to answer as many e-mails as I can, even the unkind ones, but I obviously cannot get to all of them. Here are a handful of the hundreds I get daily.

The mailbag:

Armando!

What a name on that Utah kid. But dude you missed an awesome opportunity to make funny reference to that volcano in Iceland. Something like, Dolfans better hope Nawa'akoa Lisiate Foti Analeseanoa Misi is just as explosive as Eyjafjallajokull lol. Go ahead dude, you can use it lol.

John Sternal

John!

You you got quite a sense of humor there, buddy.

Orlando:

I think this is the Big News of 2010 Draft. Our conference is going passing happy. This is the Drew Brees Legacy.

That is the reason the Tuna had to buy into bringing in Marshall. Forget about no rest when Dolphins are planning, working.

Carlos Muina

Egbert:

I've been writing for years that the NFL is a pass-happy league. Thanks for reading my work so closely -- particularly my byline.

Armando

Why can't miami ever take a solid touted player and have him live up to his potential as well? As a Dolphin fan that goes back to 1971 i must say i am not impressed by the Parcells regime so far. I must say that on paper are moves this year appear to be correct (Offensive playmaker was a no brainer). But look below (from the ESPN website) typical Miami drafting:

Odrick is a unique prospect who does not have a great fit anywhere....

Misi is going to make the transition from defensive end to outside linebacker....

He doesn't have elite measurables....

Edds is a bit of a reach here...He is a bit limited as far as overall athleticism and range ...

Troy

T-

Is it fair to think you don't like Miami's draft? I think one thing Bill Parcells does pretty well is draft defensive linemen and linebackers. Having said that, I will give him the benefit of the doubt on Odrick, Misi and Edds -- a defensive end and two LBs -- until they prove Parcells wrong.

Armando

First, I have to say I read your articles religiously.  You are right on the money in my opinion, but that may be because I happen to agree with you the majority of the time.

I started to email you yesterday to say that I think the team is going to have Will Allen, Smith and Davis on the field at the same time.  I am not sure who is going to move to safety but I think it is going to happen and then you write the same thing.

I like the first and third pick and think they will both contribute in a major way this year.  Pretty happy with the draft overall.  Thanks for all your hard work.

John

I appreciate you reading my stuff. We won't always agree, but two individuals rarely do. We do agree that the if the Dolphins don't find an "acorn" on the market the next couple of months, it cannot hurt to consider moving either Will Allen or Jason Allen to free safety. Why not? Obviously, Jeff Ireland said he wouldn't bet on it happening -- which, of course, means it might happen at any time.

Armando

I am a lifetime Miami Dolphins fan and avid supporter of the franchise. So it was deeply troubling when it was reported and later confirmed that GM Jeff Ireland asked a potential recruit, Dez Bryant, if his mother had ever been a prostitute. This type of question is demeaning, offensive and shows a general lack of class on the part of Mr. Ireland and the entire franchise. It is further upsetting that a question such as this may indeed have been asked based on the color of the recruit's skin. It in fact forces me to ask if Mr. Ireland feels that African-Americans deserve some level of diminished respect? I understand that posing a question of racism is serious but I am left to wonder about Mr. Ireland's commitment to diversity. Finally, Mr. Ireland's apology was only issued after he was publicly named on certain television networks and websites. It appears that Mr. Ireland does not mind treating young African-American players with disrespect and contempt. What he does mind is his actions being publicly disclosed. Thus, I believe his apology is hollow and without merit.

Jason Yoepp

I am certain the Dolphins appreciate your lifetime of support. There is no doubt the question to Bryant was off base, probably in any context. I would assume such a question will never be asked by Jeff Ireland again. Having said that, I do not believe this question had anything to do with race or racial profiling. If Dez Bryant was a white kid with a similar background as Bryant's, I believe Ireland would have asked the same question. Furthermore, if you wonder about Ireland's commitment to diversity, don't bother. The NFL is about 70 percent black and 100 percent green. Teams, including the Dolphins, don't judge players based on skin color, but rather on talent. And they do it in a color blind manner to get the best players which will bring championships, more success and thus more money to the franchise and its employees. Finally, if you question the timing of Ireland's apology, you should also question the timing of Bryant's accusation. He did not complain to anyone on the team about the question when it was asked. And it was not revealed the Dolphins were the team that asked the question, conveniently, until after the draft -- when Bryant was assured the Dolphins hadn't selected him. That was not coincidental.

Armando,

Just wanted to write in about your blog. I live in NJ (same town where former Dolphins FB Darian Barnes played his high school ball) and well, all I get is crap from the hated Jets fans. Love reading your articles, but hate seeing comments that bring a negative light to you. Keep up the good work and keep informing us here in NJ like always. Great work!

Mike Dacenko

Toms River, N.J.

Mike,

Thanks for the kind note. One thing that will drive your Jets fan tormentors nuts: Last year, the Dolphins swept New York. They have no comeback to that. None. Also, I didn't realize there were any comments on this blog that bring a negative light to me. All the folks who post on here love me!

Armando

Why cross out weeks ??? . It has been weeks !!

By the way mando . i love your response to Jason Yoepp about Dez Bryant and jeff Ireland. jason is obviously misinformed or naive. Maybe both.

Hey Armando, can you find out of we actually signed Vince Oghobaase and Andy Leavine?? Thanks!!!!

if we signed them...sorry

NJ PHIN FAN:

How did you do @ your Show?
.
.

It is crazy how many people tried to bring race into the Dez Bryant situation when it clearly had nothing to do with anything.

Misi needs to work on his Tri's...(He's got 'Pencil Arms' for being 6'3 )
That kind of worries me.
.
.

Its not about Race....

Its about C R A C K !!
.
.

Armando,

I do love you!

Not the same way you love Jason Taylor or anything like that, but it's love nonetheless.......

As a life long dolphins fan I cannot fathom having to live or grow up in New York or New Jersey around Jets fans. I know they're great places to live and have wonderful communities, but then football season starts.

My heart goes out to you loyal NY, NJ fins fans.

To: Jason Yoepp

"It is further upsetting that a question such as this may indeed have been asked based on the color of the recruit's skin."

----------------

Are you really serious??

Now Jeff Ireland's question is all about race.

Dude... your are extremely sensitive. In order to make the roster of a NFL team, you need to have TALENT ! Let me ask you, how many white running backs are there in the NFL??? There are like one or two. Do you see white people complaining to the NFL why NFL's teams don't hire white people to play running backs??? Do you see white people bringing the word RACE as a reason why NFL's teams don't hire white people to play running backs???

No, right !

Dude, I am sorry, but your comment is absurd.

Juan,

Dont bring that crap in here, we've already heard enough from that issue...let it rest, let others think whatever they want!!!!

So wait ... was Bryant's mom a prostitute?

Mando,
Who is it that interviews the free agents that come to visit looking for a new opportnity?
Is it Jeff Ireland?
Is he the reason that we can't sign a free agent without making him the highest paid ever to play the position (Dansby)?
Supposedly Ryan Clark got off the plane in Miami expecting to sign a contract and then according to you, after his first meeting with the team, he abruptly ended his visit and told his agent he'd rather resign with Pittsburgh for less money.
Forget the Dez Bryant thing.
Ireland was never a GM before he was here and Sparano was never a head coach before.
Is Ireland just a shiddy GM?

Juan, Actually Stanford boy Toby Gerhardt mentioned that he believed if he were a black he would have had a better shot to be picked in the first round. So Yes the only white running back choosen in the draft complained about his color, and how it affected his draft status.

Jason Yoepp,

Back in your day(1970) racism was a big issue. Guess what home boy? It's 2010! Get in the game!

If I asked a little white boy what his father did for a living and he said he's a pimp. I would think his Dad was a pimp.
If I followed up with the question: What does your mother do: and he answered: she works for my Dad. Guess what? I would think the little white boy's mamma was available for the right price.

Get a life BUOY! Leave Armando alone and stay off our blog!

Wow! we still on dez bryant mama , can i get next dibs on dat n how much?

I would like to read the whole transcript of the conversation with Dez Bryant before faulting Jeff Ireland.
From what I hear, it was asked what does your dad do? and the answer was "he was a pimp". and "what does your mom do?" answer: "she worked for him" so that was followed by the infamous question "was she a prostitute"?
answer "NO she did other things"

Now if this is true, this does shed a new light on the interview, and on the facts.Plus knowing the facts about his mom being in jail for selling illegal substances, and using them probably contributes to the ambiguity of the facts.
Mando could you please print for us the real transcrip of that interview.
I have received similar versions on the e mail from about 4 people, but unable to find the transcript myself.
Is it true - did it go like that ??
thanks for helping us shed some more light on this subject

Mando,
Prior to the draft we had lost 4 LB's, a FS and a NT (Fergie). We added one 1 LB prior to the draft.
So the depth chart was short 5 defenders when the draft opened.
I pointed this out over and over again, in this blog, in the months leading up to the draft.
I opined that the first 5 defenders drafted would make the team regardless of thier skill just to complete the depth chart.
It turned out I was right.
But how is it that you never brought this up prior to the draft?
On offense we added Penny, Incogs, Marshall and now Jerry.
Smiley is available, let's say he's gone.
That means we are 3 players over the depth chart limit on offense, 4 if you want Turner moved up the depth chart, why have you not mentioned this either?

Jason Yoepp typical liberal idiot that is destroying this great nation of ours with this liberal nonsense. This thing about Dez Bryant is and has always been a non-story. It just gets brought up by liberal media members especially ESPN who want to push their leftist agendas. GET A LIFE!!!!

highly doubt that about Toby G

Juan, white people's not complaining cuz they cant, they own the teams stupid!

Good post Mando. you should do a mailbag more often.

anyway, in regards to the DEZ situation, I'll also circle the wagons around jeff. Even though he took due diligence to a new level it had absolutely nothing to do with race bias. thats just ridiculous.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

highly doubt that about Toby G

I don't know if it's true or not. I did read the same thing though.

Mando,
Prior to the draft we had lost 4 LB's, a FS and a NT (Fergie). We added one 1 LB prior to the draft.
So the depth chart was short 5 defenders when the draft opened.

Price, The depth chart is only limited by the final 53 man roster. We don't have to have any certain number of players at any certain positions. Coach Sporano could have 53 NT's if he wanted.

I pointed this out over and over again, in this blog, in the months leading up to the draft.
I opined that the first 5 defenders drafted would make the team regardless of thier skill just to complete the depth chart.
It turned out I was right.

This is absurd. No one has officially made the team yet. Especially not the rookies and free agents. Even the guys that are currently under contract can be waived or cut at any time.

But how is it that you never brought this up prior to the draft?

Because it's ridiculous!

On offense we added Penny, Incogs, Marshall and now Jerry.
Smiley is available, let's say he's gone.
That means we are 3 players over the depth chart limit on offense, 4 if you want Turner moved up the depth chart, why have you not mentioned this either?

You're yanking my..........chain aren't you?

U best watch ur mouth, those r ur afc east champions this year*lmao*

I think n feel as if we still need more speed on offense, im talking about break away speed dude. We know B Marsh cud take it to the house anytime via breaking a few tackles but he's not gonna be the fastest guy on the field, never. We need somebody fast to stretch the field. IMO!

Wud luv to see a playmaker at the TE position. Dont know if we got one on our roster but shud be a high priority for the TRI going forward!

As to the troy comment,I bet they said that about Zack,J.T,and my favorite A.J.

Hey guys...I can post again....yippeeee....!!

Its been days since this thing worked....here are some thoughts that I was trying to post in earlier threads....

Ricky and Ronnie as a tandem, to me are No1 in the league...name a more 'versatile" duo...think Wildcat...think lack of other weapons...and then look at points scored...they are clearly ELITE...when fit and in normal form, Ronnie to me is as good as any back INCLUDING Chris Johnson.... Last nite I was trying to add to the debate on Sean Smith...but the blog was down...so here is my piece... I am concerned about Sean Smith...he needs a big increase in tackling ablity and in lower body strength for me...he covers well, but cant impose himself physically...he needs to improve before we call him a potential pro bowler....having said that...lets give him a chance....oh and Reshad Jones...they will coach him well and he will start because he brings hammer....

Odin...lots of posters saying this will be our starting LB line up or that will be the line up....hell..most of us have really not seen a lot of these guys up against professional players before...who knows whether ANY of them will make it...who knows whether our list is now WEAKER than it was....it wont be simply because of BM and KD......but I really think we need to be careful saying we are MUCH BETTER now....the reality is that we dont know..

I agree with you bigalfy, how long is it gonna take to find out if these guy's can cut it?1-3-5 losses?Sorry for the baseball word but it's gonna have to be a homerun for this draft.

Prayin for HOMERUN.

Major concerns for me...

1 Henne takes the next step...probablity...80%
2 Ricky and Ronnie are healthy and in form..probablity..50%
3 Sean Smith learns to tackle...50%
4 Culver,Clemmons, Jones successful at FS...80%
5 BM produces...95%
6 BM's effect on other receivers is positive..75%
7 White responds and is a Wildpat wonder..25%
8 Incognito doesnt cost us games via brain implosions...add GROVE to that too...50%
9 Misi is big enough and can rush...60%
10 Sparano will work out his timings this year...85%

Lets see what happens

There are still many questions to be answered....but I think so far the FO has done well....

I am 100% sure that bigalfy is 10% right.

ARMANDO AS FAR AS 70 PERCENT OF THE NFL BEING BLACK.

WHAT RACE IS MORE TALENTED THAN BLACK PEOPLE.

THAT's NOT A GOOD POINT.

I'm SURE IT WAS A RACE THING.

YOU HAVE WHITE GUYS ALL OVER THE PLACE.

DID HE NOT ASK THE SAME QUESTION TO EVERYONE.

AFTER DATING MY LADY AND MEETING ALL HER FRIENDS IT's FUNNY HOW WHITE PEOPLE DON't SEE IT.

YOU JUST CAN't GET IT.

BUT JEFF's WIFE IS STILL SWALLOWING FOR HER ALLOWENCE.

Look at how all of you are acting. I'm ashamed that you all hate each other so much that you you will insult your brothers.

There's a war going on outside no man is safe from. You can run but you can't hide for ever. For these streets that we done took. You ride with your head down scared to look. You're shooked.

But we shall overcome.

JUSTIN PLEASE LEAVE IT ALONE.

Heres to hopin ronnie stays healthy & finally has that break out season i kno he has in him.

Justin,

“WHAT RACE IS MORE TALENTED THAN BLACK PEOPLE.” - Justin Credible aka the racist on the Blog.

It is truly sad that you constantly make racist comments and then turn around and say “whites” are racist. You do not get it my friend.

Maybe… just maybe the reason you cannot get a job (other than Burger King) is because you do not know proper English, grammar, or you wear jerseys and slacked pants to job interviews.

Your racist attitude my actually come off in your interviews. Or maybe word has gotten out that you threaten people (like me) with violence because you cannot complete a sentence or present a competent argument.

Fun Facts for Justin the racist

America was the second country in the history of the earth to abolish slavery in the form of a written document.

America has given more money to Africa in aid than any country ever.

They just elected the first black man to office.

Half of the countries in the world today still have slavery.

The diamonds you stole were probably mined from a small child in Africa you stupid hypocrite.

Hey Justin, open a book and read!

Wow we live in a world in whoch BPs responsibility to lost economy and environment is capped at 75 Million but a Picasso painting just sold to a private buyer for 106.5 Million. The rich get richer. Damn.

Dolphin Disciple:The fact that you always jump in on this subject, is that you prbably are a racist or have racist undertones. STOP talking about this Krap, bozo.

YO NJ YOU PROBABLY RACIST TOO.
YOUR THOUGHTS B

You forgot to print my email. You know the one that reads "You stink."

I was just listening to Joe Rose and his callers and there calling for Bill Parcells head over the DEzzzz thing. There still trying to use race baiting for ratings. Parcells is the greatest thing to happen to the Dolphins since Don Shula. Joe Rose is an idot and a traitor to the Dolphins. Everyone has always known Joe Rose would do enything for money, ie sell his kids and wife for money. There useing the DEzzz thing to damage the Dolphins for not playing ball with the Miami media.

Dolphin you forgot to mention fried chicken and watermelon, U BIGOT

There's a war going on outside no man is safe from. You can run but you can't hide for ever. For these streets that we done took. You ride with your head down scared to look. You're shooked.

"that we done took"... we're "shooked"? Dude, go back to school and learn to use your brain. Ignorant posts like these do not support your point well.

All real Dolphin fans should just stream ESPN Mike and Mike in the moning. Instead of the Dolphin hateing Losers on WQAM. Let the race baiters numbers die along with the station.

"that we done took"... we're "shooked"? Dude, go back to school and learn to use your brain. Ignorant posts like these do not support your point well.

Posted by: jets always suck | May 05, 2010 at 08:23 AM

What jets always suck really means: Get your black @zzz back to school because you are not smart.

Did you go to college jets always smart? What do you do for a living??

Why does Sparano end alot of his statements with things like ..."it really is" or "he really is" or "I really am"(?) It sound as if he suspects that we think he's lying to us....Its just odd.

As a person of color, who has interviewed many people for many years, I would like to say that I too think Jeff Irelands' questioning was wrong.

Q:What did your father do?
A: He was a pimp.
Q: What did you mother do?
A: She worked for my dad.
Q: In what capactiy or What was her job?

Ireland made an assumption that was worse scenario instead of continuing a line of questioning that should have been pretty standard, so yes, Ireland was wrong.

I don't know if Ireland is a racist or not, and truth be told, I don't care, but these boards are full of people who thinly vail their bigotry.
Hartline is better than Bess? If you had to cut one of the WRs Bess would be the one? Not Camarillo or Hartline, Bess. Edds will be the best player we drafted or some such rot? Rubbish.

I am so very glad to be able to talk football again, that these small distraction hold very little weight. I did not like our draft, I think it focused too much on defense and not enough on Playmakers that put up points.

Just my two Pence.

Justin the Wigga!!! Your an overweight, pot smoking WHITE truck driver. Stop pretending your Rev. Al Sharpton. LMAO

Jets Always Suck, America's post "there's a war going on outside no man is safe from..." are lyrics to a Mobb Deep song that America was just reciting, so calm down playboy.

To all who are STILL talking about Dez Bryant and the race issue....YOUR IDIOTS!!!

If you should be getting worked up over ANYTHING it should be that Shonn Greene and Reshard Mendenhall were in the list of 10 best RBs (and the B team) and Ricky or Ronnie weren't. Talk about a travesty. If you want to lash out at anybody, lash out at the stupid NY Times bloggers. "The Newspaper of Record", I say F*&* the Times. They know nothing except how to lose to Miami TWICE!! That's embarrassing. The entire Jets organization should be kicked in the *ss. They need to be a girls gymnastics team, not a football team. This is the war we need to fight Dolfans, not the over-discussed, silly issue about Dez Bryant (let the Cowboys deal with him).
