It's late May. The NFL is starved for news. And so I'm writing about a Justin Smiley trade, a conditional seventh-round pick, and a physical slated for Tuesday morning.
I need a minicamp really quickly.
Anyway, if Smiley passes his physical today, the Dolphins will garner from the Jacksonville Jaguars one whole, exciting seventh round pick in the 2011 draft.
If Smiley does not somehow pass his physical, the Dolphins will strongly consider simply releasing him before the start of Friday's minicamp.
Bet on Smiley passing because, well, teams have wide latitude on what constitutes a passing and failing physical outside of a positive drug test. Consider that Brandon Marshall passed a Miami physical recently ... and then required hip surgery.
Consider that Daunte Culpepper once upon a time passed a Miami physical after being traded from Minnesota and his surgically repaired knee was nowhere near 100 percent. Or 80 percent.
So if the Jags want Smiley, they will get Smiley because the physical is something they can pretty much grade on a curve if they wish.
Yippie, Dolphins will get a seventh-round pick!
Bring on the minicamp.

Its classes that Smiley was not given press conference to say goodbye and have his number retired. This is a giant pr blunder from Parcells and Ireland. How will the Dolphins ever recover from this horrible bust? They are still rebuilding the offensive line, what will they do? 2-14?

When this FO decides a guy doesnt fit in there plans anymore they move on. Getting a pick for
Smiley is a bonus. Not to mention you can find good football players in the 7th rd. like TJ Houshmandzadeh, Donald Driver, Ahmad Bradshaw, M. Colston, P. Crayton etc.......draft picks are gold, even in the 7th rd.....
Posted by: John | May 25, 2010 at 08:01 PM
K that makes it funny then
Posted by: Grrreatdane | May 25, 2010 at 08:03 PM
On another note...
Our defense is under the radar. Thats a good thing. Starks does worry me a a bit. Can he force a center to double team him and keep bodies off of Danby and Chowder. (Chowder needs to earn his name back)

KRIS,
HOW CAN YOU SAY SUCH A THING ? I CARE ABOUT THE DEFENSES.
CROWDER SUCKS .
Posted by: ALoco | May 25, 2010 at 09:38 PM
Kris,
Do you really think Chowder will beat out Dobbins?
Seriously, I'm not being funny, I don't think Chowder will even beat out Edds.
I'm no NoxiousHomo, but I'm predicting Crowders days as a starter are OVER.
Posted by: odinseye | May 25, 2010 at 09:47 PM
CROWDER NEEDS TO SHAVE BEFORE I SAY ANY THING NICE ABOUT HIM .
Posted by: ALoco | May 25, 2010 at 09:51 PM
Aloco,
I think you better shave and get the house cleaned up. Mamma Maria might surprise you and come home a little early.
PS: Make sure theres not any strange strays hanging around your back door.
Posted by: odinseye | May 25, 2010 at 09:58 PM
What I Thought was wierd, was that Crowder was at the Mike LB. on the first team. I thought that would be Dansby's spot. I wouldn't give up on Crowder to fast. I think little knicks had something to do with the drop in production last year

ODIN,

Darryl, drop in the production last year ?
HE GOT FULL SALARY AND BONESS AND HE STILL NOT SHAVED .

Awfulins lose again! By acting the way they did, not allowing smiley into camp..issuing statements on his shoulder problems..the doofins keep blowing thier foot away and getting nothing in return..It's awful~~~DoinG@#&%
that's what i mean by losers, you lose every oppotunity.
Roth, Taylor and all those free agents and bum draft choices.
I guess drafting top 5..let's see if you keep drafting linebackers in the next two you may find one???????
As far as the Jets are concerned they have a more than adequate replacement in matt slauson.
The JETS needed the money for contracts. Revis and mangold. Fanica was the weak link, So they o-line is better than ever and has the best blocking fullback in football in richardson.
Richardson is the reason jones got any yds as he cried when richardson wasn't part of the trade to KC. We have "The terminator" best fullback in the draft to replace richardson.
We have everything covered and we'll dominate the afc east. Burp!
meamwhile the losers dump thier second best lineman after long and are left with gaabage players kicked off other teams.
As i watch all this...It's another regime of chaos. Have you heard of a Hip pointer? It's a dibilitating injury that happens when the hip is weakened. A couple a good shots and it's over for marshall. If it aint south beach it'll be a hard hit (probably by taylor) wouldn't that be funny. Taylor knocks marshall out! Burp! Hope yoos find an orficenitive line before 2012 hahahahahaha

Aloco,
You would hire someone else to do the durty work and then take all the credit?
Yeah, sounds about right too me! Saving up all your "energy" for Mamma Maria.
Aloco you crazy.

Jet fan,do us all a favor and put a bullet in your head. You'll feel better and so will I.
Posted by: beerndrums | May 25, 2010 at 10:20 PM
Yes Mr ALoco perhaps Crowder should shave. But lets hope that Crowder can return to the form he had in 2008. Nolan will have these guys flying around, so maybe this, and the fact he should be feeling some pressure from the newbies should inspire him to play better. But your right, nobody should report to work without a fresh shave.
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | May 25, 2010 at 10:20 PM
Jetfan I would love to knock you out....mama said knock you out.
Posted by: Ace | May 25, 2010 at 10:20 PM
Time and time again the front office has handled our HR issues in a very odd matter. One or twice maybe but it appears to be a pattern which can't help from a recruiting standpoint at a minimum.
Posted by: Khalid | May 25, 2010 at 10:27 PM
You guys complain about Armando? I think he's damn good? You losers expect to get breast fed and somebody to change your diapers.
I like when a writer says what he thinks as opposed to just write what people want to hear.
You got nothin for roth or taylor.
They blew the taylor pick on white..another bust.
7th round picks are garbage and usually get cut.
You get a fifth for an overall 9th in Ginn. These are losing trades not winning.
Paying way too much for a receiver with a bad attitude and hip. Geez, you guys should be commitin suichycide with those outcomes!! haha
Posted by: JET FAN | May 25, 2010 at 10:28 PM
Darryl,
I thought it was wierd too, but that's an understatement. It kind of pissed me off. I thought for sure Dansby would be the Mike.
I know the coaches know better than me, so this is one of those times you just have to have some faith in what they're doing.
The only thing I could think of is that this is a way of hiding a deficiency until somebody else steps up.
Chowder is the only returning starter at ILB so we'll leave him there for now. His coverage skills are a liability for the Mo, so work him where he's best suited to play.
Ultimately though, I'm hoping Dansby becomes the Mike and Dobbins the Mo. Chowder will back up Dansby and Edds spells Dobbins on passing downs.
Any thoughts?

I guess they just can't find a CORK big enough to plug that hole.
Putting the oil company out of business won't solve the problem.
The bush administration with thier lack of regulation and commitment for safety and other issue's are the real reason.

Jet Fan,
You said it, we keep making all these stupid mistakes, yet we still SWEEP you guys. # in a row as a matter of FACT!
If we ever do make a good move your overpaid underachieving band of senior citizens won't be us for at least the next decade.

Dear Mr. Jet Fan
"You losers expect to get breast fed and somebody to change your diapers."
I can't speak for everyone here but.....
Diaper fetishes come in all different kinds.
Choose between disposable and washable diapers.
Each has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages, including price, reusability and cleanliness.
Invest in rubbers sheets. Make the clean-up process as easy and safe as possible by lining your bed with rubber sheets before any diaper role-play. It's better to be safe than sorry.
Go Phins
Jets suck

What up Odin! What I thought after the initial confusion in my head, was that When Crowder was healthy, (I'm going back to 2008 again) His stats were fairly equal to Dansby's. Subtract sacks, and tackles for loss. Maybe the thinking is that Nolan is counting on Crowder to be that player again, and he can Utilize Dansby's superior mobility to move him around in different looks. So this could just be an early pre-season experiment. I think you nailed it on the head as far as the rotation we will see at LB. But if Crowder can hold it down, look for Dansby to be let loose, and cause a ruckus all over the field.
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | May 25, 2010 at 10:44 PM
Oops! I meant to say 3 in a row!
You get that Sweat Fan? 3 in a row and counting.

Justin, Is it ok for me to say someone is the blackest non black man in America?
Not sure if the word Blackest is actually a word.
Posted by: Ace | May 25, 2010 at 10:52 PM
Darryl,
Thats the same line of reasoning that's going through my head as well.
I'm thinking Dansby will excel at either position. So the question becomes where do we use him. The posibilities at Mo make me drool. He'll have a little more room to move around and wreak havoc.
However, playing him at Mike and he becomes the heart and soul of our defense.
The guys so talented, good arguments can be made either way.
I would choose the later and build my defense around him.
Posted by: odinseye | May 25, 2010 at 10:56 PM
Ace,
Thank you. I wanted to post on that too. I wouldn't normally bother, but Justin Himself makes racist comments and then resorts to backing it up with some ancient 1960's bull about da man always tryin to keep a brother down.
It's one thing to be racist, but to be a hippocrite too?
C'mon Justin, you want your cake and you want too eat it too?
You can't have it both ways?
Is this just another case of the pot calling the kettle blac......ah.......non-white?
Posted by: odinseye | May 25, 2010 at 11:02 PM
No problem Odin, I was just laughing at the thought of NJ being around and how livid he would have gotten at Justin

Where did all the Crayton to the Phins stuff start? He is a good reciver, and can return punts. But don't we already have a bunch of guys like him already? I would rather take my chances with our guys.

NYScott,
You know I agreed with you about the Northeast until I began thinking...
Buffalo, NE, and NY/NJ are all in the Northeast and so are their fans.
Therefore, since we know Jet fans are jerks, NE fans are spoiled, and Buffalo fans are kinda ok, but then again they hate us and their women are hairy. So, what was it about the Northeast I was supposed to like again?
