Miami Dolphins may be cautious with some recovering players

The NFL is a go-go-go league and if you're not getting better you're getting worse. That is why young teams put so much emphasis on getting their players on the field together and working hard at the start of training camp.

But sometimes working all the players extremely hard is extremely short-sighted.

Bodies break, my friends, so look for the Dolphins to take a more cautious approach with their more precious, proven, but breakable commodities.

That means even as running back Ronnie Brown approaches 100 percent while he continues to recover from foot (lisfranc) surgery last season, the Dolphins are not expected to expose him to every single repetitition in every single practice right away.

Yes, there will be practices Brown does it all. But there will be practices he's held back a bit to mitigate the wear on him.

Receiver Brandon Marshall is scheduled to be ready for full work at the start of training camp after his hip surgery earlier this offseason. At last check he was very close to 100 percent, if not already there. He and quarterback Chad Henne need to work together and catch up on becoming a great pitch-and-catch combination.

But trainers and coach Tony Sparano may not put pedal to the metal on Marshall's work from the very first week of practice, which begins Friday. Marshall is scheduled to practice. But how much isn't exactly clear.

Good idea?

Sure, as long as the players get their work done. The Dolphins need to come out of the gates fast this year because their early season schedule -- including at Minnesota, at Green Bay, and home games against the Jets, New England and Pittsburgh -- promises to be a killer.

So Miami must be prepared to play its best football early in the season.

But Sparano and his training staff also have to weigh the idea that to play their best football, the Dolphins cannot be walking around wounded. They need players such as Brown and Marshall at 100 percent on Sept. 12 when the regular season opens.

And that could mean being more deliberate with the work those players get starting July 30.

you can call me mamaduke

Tri,

If I had to bet right now, I'd bet that Turner doesn't make the roster, or any 5th WR for that matter. I think they keep one of the young LBs before a 5th WR.

Nevermind then I don't want it... Unless I'm the only one!

i can let you have it if you want grreatdane

HI people!!!! cacahuate is back!!!

Up to u I'm happy with the name I have n if u wanna give it up I'll gladly take it! :) thanks mamaduke just let me know!

ALoco,

Let's see if Turner is healthy enough to participate in training camp. If he doesn't, how do you expect him to beat someone else out of a roster spot?

Its such a waste...

Turner's College reel looked really good....Maybe he just doesn't have the desire to put in the work needed to play at this level.

Geez....if it were me, I would be following Brandon Marshall around like a P u p p y !!
.
.

I wonder if the Dolphins didn't take Turner in the 3rd round, if he would have fell to the 4th or even 5th round.

you can have mamaduke GRRETDANE.

LET SEE WHAT PAT WHITE AND TURNER DO IN THE FIRST 7 GAMES FIRST .I HAVE A FEELING THEY WILL ROCK .DON'T ASK ME HOW .

ALoco,

How can Turner rock anything if he doesn't even make the team, or is on the PUP list? Explain.

I'm beating a dead horse here but mabey turners problem is like ex-raider Russels problem! Cause he did show alot of potential comming out of college!

I SAID I HAVE THE FEELINGS FOR HIM ROCKING AND MY FEELING NEVER WRONG .

ALoco,

Get used to being wrong for a while, because you definitely ain't right on this one baby.

I ALSO HAVE THE FEELINGS THAT PAT WHITE WILL MAKE BILL.P PROUD .WATCH .

ALoco,

You need to shine the crystal ball you're using man, it ain't working so good.

Bro NJ!!!,

WOW! Just read the link you posted!!! The Herald is riddled with copy-cats and SS wanna-be’s!!!

NO ONE was talking “Bro”, “my man” (as in “my man Malcolm Floyd, Davone Bess, etc, etc”), “cat”, or “I hear ya” until it was introduced here on the SS.

Those cats are nuckin’ futs over there!!! They diss us, but then act like us!!! Imitation is a form of flattery, and I for one am flattered!!!

Next thing you know, they’ll be saying “YUP!” and “EXACTLY!”

This was copied straight from the Sun Sentinel.
This how some think over there.

ONE QUESTION I HAVE... DID THE COACH LEARNED HIS LESSONS FROM LAST YEAR MISTAKES ?

IS HENNE GOING TO REPEAT HIS GREAT PERFORMANCE FROM LAST YEAR OR HE'S ALREADY REACHED HIS PEAK ?

Henne is going to have a monster year ALoco, you should be feeling that!

What those fools at the Sentinel think they invented the word "bro" and "my man".LMFAO
What a bunch of pansies..YUP YUP only a retard talks that way. Exactly. Oh wait release the kracken....sheeessssssh

ALoco,
Your comment on the previous page "Hartline getting Injured would be a disaster" is very interesting. And, in my opinion, very true. Not because there is no depth at the position or because he will have the same effect as Marshall if hurt. Actually Miami has a surplus of receivers at this moment and they may find themselves facing a tough choice. But that is a who different conversation. Sticking with the Hartline thing, I believe every team has players who play their positions but also are a part of a bigger picture. Hartline, Marshall, Camarillo, Bess and perhaps one or two of the other WR on the team meet often. They have been quoted "each of them separately" as holding each other accountable and keeping the communication and work at a high level. Go and yank him out of that situation and it lowers the input, it changes the dynamic and chemistry of what those guys are trying to accomplish as a Receiver corp.
At the risk of being my typical long winded self, I'll try to wrap up my thoughts like this... I see Miami as having some team and player intangibles. There is communication, these guys get along. They study with each other and they have mad respect for the older vets like Pennington who can give them knowledge only experience comes by otherwise. In 95 Miami had what I though was its best team since 1984 on paper. More 1st round picks and top notch FA players then most teams at that time had EVER seen assembled. It was Shula's last dice roll and on paper it was magnificent. From its Hall of fame QB to Troy Vincent at Corner Miami was stacked. However, As a team... as a group... as a assembly of players... when you started looking for the intangibles we are so blessed with a great abundance of NOW. We had NOTHING. That team argued, whined, squabbled and Brian Cox through helmets and cost games. That team SUCKED.. everywhere but on paper and in the GREAT EFFORT Don Shula gave to the fans to get Dan and them another Superbowl win. That team looked EXACTLY like the New York Jests this season. Like a Dynamic Powerhouse. Yet every bone in my Body tells me the Wets are 9-7 and miss the post season as NE & Miami push them out.

Sorry for the long wind. Sometimes a comment like ALoco made stirs a deeper thought for me.

derek good post, I do remember the 95 phins and the loads of players they had. I too thought, this is going to be it. Did they not have Keith Jackson on the team at that time also?

Nobody has mentioned a possible suspension for Ronnie Brown from the DUI... Is he in the clear?

odinseye a.k.a my step-dad is currently in the hospital, he will be back shortly to blog with all you "blogger" just thought i would let you know :)

-kirsty the step-daughter.
night,

Please send "Odinseye" the very best from the Blog... tell him we wish him well and hope to see him soon.

Derek and the Rest of the Phins fans!

i will, & if anyone is curious he cut his hand towing a car, nothing major just some stiches. they need to hurry and get back these kids are driving me nuts!! lol

We definitely need the Ronnie/Ricky combo to be fully effective. He runs the Wildcat better than anyone. However, would you trade him for a potential middle 2nd rounder in next year's draft? I think I would if that opportunity presented itself. He doesn't have a ton of mileage so he could bring some value. We could draft another RB next year with that extra pick. Especially since we don't have a 2nd rounder. Just sayin.........

ok i will encourage my friend to pray for dolphins.

I'd like to share your beautiful blog! But the way I feel is weak! Would like to have the person help me
