There was much speculation about why Pat White missed the first day of training camp Friday. There are reports he will miss the entire season.
Perhaps.
But I'm told he is expected to work today, even if on a limited basis.
So we'll see about that.
White was one of two players absent from work on Friday. I have no report on whether Evan Oglesby will be on the field today.
Check back after practice for my update here. And follow me on twitter for real-time updates from the field.

Florio - - who I am increasingly convinced has a serious negativity toward all things Dolphin - - intimated that the Pat White thing was a (a) harbinger of a trade or of PW annou8ncing he's going to play BB, (b) a PW rebellion at being asked to play WR and (c) sign 6,542 to Florio that Parcells is leaving.
I have grown VERY werary of PFT.

Other outlets are saying Pat White is out for training camp and was placed on the non football related injury list

It would be a real bonus if White can earn a roster spot this year.
You can never have too many QB's, and Thigpen or Pennington would make mighty fine trade bait.
I did think White flashed a little something running the option packages, making the right reads. Also, little as he is, he isn't afraid of contact. Of course his arm made Ronnie Brown look like John Elway, and that is just it. He needs to show he can be a passing threat in those packages and that he can at least be a good no. 3 this year, and a no. 2 in time.
Pennington recently said White was, "the most improved player on the team." Sparano praised White's offseason work ethic. Is it true, or is that Miami PR supporting attempts to trade White? I feel we heard similar praise for John Beck before he was shown the door.

I am wondering if Pat White has a serious mental issue or something. His brother was quoted as saying he doesn't know what happening with Pat and said his parents are dealing with the issue now.

And we are now bringing in a former AFL QB for a tryout today as well.

Posted by: Steve | July 31, 2010 at 09:08 AM

Posted by: Grrreatdane | July 31, 2010 at 09:20 AM
It Sounds like something brewing on PW....
If Traded, What is he really worth?
I Still Believe in him though.
If PW still has value In the NFL, He has most with the Fins...IMO

Palm Beach paper reports PW is at practice this morning and working with the other QB's. Case closed. Thank You

My opinion given the regime's history is that too much praise is not good. I suspect White will not make the final roster even if he does participate in all of training camp. Pennington is apparently healthy so unless they truly believe in White, I see White as the odd man out. They will not keep 4 Qb's. The X factor of course is if someone makes an offer for Thigpen that is too good to pass up.

REMEMBER PEOPLE PAT WHITE HAS A CONTRACT OF WHICH 2.4 MILLION GUARANTEED SO HE CAN BE HAPPY TO BE RELEASED AND SIGN A NEW CONTRACT W/SOME ONE ELSE .

White missed reads on options last season. That's when I became seriously concerned about his ability to play at this level at all. If he can't run the option, what can he do?
As for what Pennington said about him, take it with a grain of salt. If you listened to Big O yesterday, you heard what the team thought of Ginn. But CP never had a bad word to say about him in the media, even when he was dogging it in practice and falling asleep in meetings.

it'll be interesting to see how this pat white situation shakes out, clearly somebody has some bad info on him. either he's out for a long time or he'll be practicing today. hopefully he practices
Posted by: J.d. Morrison | July 31, 2010 at 10:49 AM
it appears white is practicing, glad mando was right
Posted by: J.d. Morrison | July 31, 2010 at 10:54 AM
Can we cut this giant mistake that shouldn't be here. Another head case that want's everything giving to him. He's a mini me of Duh'Marcus Russell. Yes Patty there are three QB's ahead of you, and that won't change.

Posted by: Grrreatdane | July 31, 2010 at 11:09 AM
Dear Mr. Grrreatdane
"said ed harris about jude law!!"
Ed Harris's acting skills have deteriated enough that he may be overtaken on the depth chart by Jude Law.
Acting is a young mans game.

Who cares about Pat White? Trade him and get what you can he is a bust.
Posted by: Scalzo | July 31, 2010 at 12:03 PM
The idea of keeping Pat White and Trading Pennington or Thigpen seems a bit self destructive to me. The need for a Backup QB is almost always tested if at least for a few plays every year. Playing against some of the defenses in this league you can count on Henne getting blasted on a play or two and needing to step off the field for a series or so. Having a guy that can come in and not screw the pooch is imperative. Thigpen is that guy, Pennington is that guy (along with a whole lot more) Pat White.... at least until he has proven MORE THAN ONCE IS NOT THAT GUY. Its not personal, the guy may turn out to be the second coming of Randle Cunningham (only guy with similar running attributes as Pat and I mean this as a compliment) Pennington is an insurance policy who can save this teams butt if things go South. Having him just to teach work ethic and film study is like having another coach. Thigpen could start in this league and Pennington will make him better also. If either were traded, who would take their place?(please don't say Pat White because he cannot) I cannot see Miami entering into a trade negotiation unless a serious position was being worked. And one only need to take 30 minutes to see what is available at the positions we may need and one will find its slim pickings.
