The clock is ticking for the Dolphins

Coach Tony Sparano recently told the media, which is not allowed to enter the Dolphins training facility until the regular season, that he has put a big clock in the locker room that is counting down to the opener Sept. 12 at Buffalo.

"It's been counting for the opening game for about four months now," Sparano said. "And as I tell the team on a pretty regular basis, they're not adding more time on that clock. There's less and less time right now ... If those guys are in that huddle out there, meaning, first huddle second huddle whatever it is and these mistakes are being made—we can chalk it up to young we can chalk it up to all those things but we're not going to say that we got a lot of time. We don't. We need to get it corrected and they need to get better at it."

The clock was Sparano's idea and has gotten something of a mixed reaction among some of the players.

"I don't really look at it that much," cornerback Vontae Davis said. "I worry about what tomorrow has in store for us and that's practice."

"I guess it kind of remind me of college," quarterback Chad Henne said, "I know Ohio State has a clock counting down to Michigan. But I think it's good. It keeps our minds on Buffalo and I know we want to get off to a fast start this year. It's great, it reminds us it's not getting further away. It's getting closer."

Regardless of what the players think of the clock, there is importance to Friday's preseason game against Atlanta. Sparano sees it as a measure of his team because the Falcons are a good team.

"This is a team that I consider a playoff team from the NFC and from our end here, we consider ourselves to be one," the coach said. "It's a good test, a good challenge."

Sparano said playing time for his first team offense and defense, "is not going to be a whole lot more" than it was last week when starters played a little over a quarter."

But the coach still wants his starters to at take at least one series in the second half.

"You do want to heat them up again in the second half and play them coming out of halftime, but after that we'll start to play some bubble guys," Sparano said.

Defensive rookie update:

Many of you ask me my opinion on rookies Koa Misi and Jared Odrick. I think they're going to be fine. They need more urgency. They need to improve their technique. But neither is overwhelmed by the NFL game.

And Sparano, whose opinion is more important, is seeing steady improvement.

"This week [against Jacksonville] I was able to watch Koa Misi punch the tight end several times and separate. And that's a pretty good tight end they have over there," the coach said. "With Odrick, I started to see a little more involvement in the run game and holding the point of attack on double teams a little bit better."

Black Powder and Lead was an Old Time Patriotic Battle Cry.

At one time I owned a .308 AND a AR15. Circumstances dictated a sale.

Today, I'm "ALLOWED" to have a vintage 1948 SKS, a vintage 1919 German made Gecado Double shot derringer, a 30.06, a 410 and 12 gauge shotguns and two bows.

I live in the Hiawatha National Forest, I got a generator, a "back up" generator and I TRY to keep the liquor cabinet stocked.

MISI AND ODBALL SUCX

Justin fool you better leave boy before bobbyd12 finds you here.

Hey good one Yazzi, (Nice recall bro)

I saw that on PFT too. Darn proud of my boy BG. Haha

I took the Eagles DEF in a Fantasy draft as that will gimmie another reason to watch the Iggles play as well.

I have been paying attention and Tivo'ing as many pre season games as I can stand. Ex Phili DE Hugh Douglass kept commenting at how watching him play gave him "Goose bumps" lol. BG goes right around some the "NFL" OT's with his short arms and all. Still wish he was in a Phins uni. Him and Wake would be ferocious on the edges.

I sure hope Odrick and Misi develop as they are Phins now... coach em up TS!

Just like betting or making a claim or a prediction it's always fun to see if it bares fruit.

I also have paid VERY close attention to the Raiders "crazy find" LB R McClain that I was not so high on. Back in the good old days NJP and B12 and I use to get into some humdinger discussions about the merits of both players (or lack thereof) lol. R McClain has started much like what I saw him do in college. Not making the tackle but near it, piling on or "helping" when he gets there. I will track his career as well for kicks. Lotta pundits are sold... I'm not.

I will stick by my original assessment, BG will have a MUCH better career than RM.

Cheers Yazzi!!

pat white will never be the same as he was before that game he was knocked out, woke up thinkng he was batman, and craving a snickers.

goodnight NJ
goodnight Mike E
goodnight Marinofan13

these people at the SS make me sick!!!!!

Rob in OC,

Are you OC Rob?

Who is this BG you speak of?

Mando, Who writes these stories first? What is going on Why does every writer re write the same article news twice or three times? Neal wrote the same exact thing as you about pat white... Cote writes the same story as you about the clock ticking? Are they seriously getting paid?

BOTTOMS UP!!!!

while every one is basking in the two chads power trip, if henne,(and please no) were to go down, then what penne goes down 3 weeks later(which will be the case) thigpen is best and only option. which in fact would be a struggle. pat white? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! may as well call a strike, the only way out of that! ha ha lol! pat white thats good stuff you blind dreamers!

HEY ODINSEYE:

MAYBE YOU WERE DRINKING TOO MUCH BEFORE YOU CLIMBED THAT TREE TO SPY ON YOUR WIFE's SISTER BUT I'm NOT MAD A6T YOU

Hey Odin,

Wasssup!

Nope, I have one tag and its always Rob in OC.

If you are referring to Ocala Rob on SS than no...thats a different guy.

BG = Brandon Graham the DE/OLB from Michigan now an Eagle.

RM = Rolando McClain the ILB from 'Bama now a Raider.

NJPhin, Bobbyd12,Darryl Dunphy, Mark in Toronto, Payuengnswings, CM, Carlito, Bigalfy, Marc, PoWhiteTrash and a few others use to banty about all the draft picks and make bold or not so bold predictions pre-draft.

I know you were here pre-draft too.

Good times.

The one I enjoyed was NJP tearing into me after I said his killer WR Carlton Micthell from UCF would be a 7th round free agent type. He unloaded on how off base I was so we made a gentlemans bet. 2nd through 3rd round he wins. 4rth round is a tie and 5th on down I win. He went 6th round...Then the best part was NJP said he forgot all about the friendly wager.

It was all in good fun... he later admitted I won that wager.

I can't wait for RAGNOROK when we face dem dang Billies in Sept!!

Cheers Odinseye

Justin,

I've NEVER been married. I drink a lot, and I was drunk, but I've never drank that much. Marriage boils down to a worthless piece of paper printed out for sucka's like you.

Oh yeah..............leave my family tree out of this.

Sucka!!!!

I LOVE THE PRODUCT THE FINS ARE PUTTING ON THE FIELD THIS YEAR.

WAS I THE FIRST HOPING TO GET BRANDON?

I THINK IT WILL BE A GREAT YEAR FINFANS.

I HOPE YOUR READY IT's OUR TIME NOW.

ODINSEYE:

YOU'RE RIGHT WHAT WAS I THINKING?

THEY DIDN'T LEGALIZE GAY MARRIAGES YET

PEACE.

Rob,

I remember it well. You and I were about the only ones considering Graham as a possible no. 12. Despite the fact that he's an eagle, I still think he'll be a perennial Pro Bowler.

I also remember that gentleman's bet. I thought you handled it with class and took the high road.

I'm pumped. I can't wait to see this offense mow down the wills defense!

Justin,

The fact that you keep up on gay legislation speaks volumes.

Even though I don't keep up with you and your butt buddies activities, you keep reaching for that rainbow!

You Go Bu-ooyyy!!!!

Rob,

Ragnorok?

I'm impressed!

Valhalla Baby!

You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your f-ckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy."

So... what that make you? Good? You're not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie.

Me, I don't have that problem. Me, I always tell the truth. Even when I lie.

So say good night to the bad guy!

Rob in OC,

I watched BG in the Eagles Bengals game last week and he was getting ate up by blocks every play... I think he will have a good career, but lets not crown him the next Reggie White just yet

I think the trifecta has already had feelers put out on Thigpen from other teams. I also think they are too smart to let him go.

Finally got to see the Jax game. Here are some thoughts:
- For all the Henne haters on here, eat it. Henne was on point, crisp passes, only one real mistake as far as where to go with the ball, otherwise, all his incompletions were dropped passes. We've finally got a player at QB.
- 1st team OL was outstanding. That left side is scary good.
- Not sure this is a good thing (but isn't totally bad either), but Ricky is outrunning Ronnie right now. I don't know if it's injury, or what, but Ricky seems to be more in rhythm than Ronnie.
- Finally, we got to see what we paid for in Brandon Marshall. Yes, he had some drops, but those two blocks for TDs more than made up for it. This guy is worth every dime.
- Fasano and Bess had great games, not so much for Hartline. I'm starting to wonder if he's going backward. Marlon Moore is looking better and better by the way.
- Front 7 defense was ok, nothing to write home about (except that Starks' sack). The back of the house, well, that's more problematic. Those guys need to get it together. Not sure if Nolan is just letting them play vanilla to see what he has, but this is looking exactly like last year's defense to me (minus 1 or 2 guys of course).
- Lastly, special teams. Sparano always talks about having the RIGHT 53 guys, not the best. Well, on special teams buddy, you better get the best, because what you have now is trash. We won't win many games if our special teams plays that poorly this year.

All in all, I was happy with the progress. I'm pretty much sold on our 1st team offense, not yet sold on 1st team defense, and ready to throw away our special teams. Hope I get to see more against the Falcons.

Mando,
Im wondering if the drops are due to both them getting used to Henne (in Hartlines case thats not an excuse and would have more to do with preparation) AND him not throwing an easily catchable ball, something marino's receivers had to to was change how they caught the ball over the middle as he would throw it 100mph every throw that wasnt a deep one...Henne may need to tone that arm down on passes that your looking for YAC.

tick tock tick tock,,,,, and the miami dolphins select ???? out of ???? college/university with the 1st over all pick in the 2011 draft... LOL

That Buffoon NJ would have torn your Azzz up for months had you lost. He forgets about the wager.....he is a liar and a fraud

Browns signed NT Travis Ivey.
Ivey is an undrafted free agent out of Maryland that was in Dolphins camp for a stretch. He'll be a camp body to take the place of Kwaku Danso, who was waived/injured Tuesday.

Sparano will be gone as head coach by the Bye Week.

We are going to start the season a big, fat f'in 0-4.

I love these coaches trying to talk up their team as thinking they are a playoff contender. Baloney.
They should be saying: We stink, we get no respect, we have to overachieve, we can't take anything for granted, we're the third-best team in the AFC East and we have a lot of freakin' work to do.

I'm tired of the "we know we're better than this" statements that we got after the first SCRIMMAGE. The first SCRIMMAGE. And it's going to be refrain over and over again this season.

Meet Mike Nolan, your soon-to-be-new-head coach

Rob in OC. I was here, been here for years, but, I don't get too into the draft as I don't watch college.

Meet josephus, PLungie of the week winner with his last post. Thanks for stopping by and winning with the stupidest post of the week, and it's not even Friday yet

bring back bates.

Agreed Home. Not sure what he and 1-15 are watching. I don't think it's even close to being that bad. At absolute worst, I can only find 8 losses this year (and that was hard trying to find 8 losses). So, if this team blew up and broke down, I think the worst record they'd have is 8-8. Where these guys are comin' off saying 1-15 and 0-4 against (Bills, Viks MINUS Favre, Jets and Pats AT HOME), obviously they haven't been keeping up with the NFL in the past few weeks/months. That's fine fellas if you're uninspired, but at least have a shred of evidence before you start slitting your veins.

Dear Mr. Salguero

Do you feel its easier to go to the radio station to do your show by going to bed at say 9 or 10 oclock pm them get up at 3 am get ready and then head to the station.

Or is it easier to just leave the bars at closing time grab a quick cup of coffee and a couple of Hot Pockets and then head to the station for your show.

Soiled :)

P.S. Do you pick the Amigo up on your way in to the station or do he just ride the Bus line.

DC Dolfan-

I agree with you. I think at worse we are an 8-8 team however, the Vikes will have Farve right? Though Sidney Rice is out for 6-8 weeks and Percy Harvin may not play due to his migraine issues. So I guess that will diminish Farve's effectiveness to a certain extent.

Also, even if our defense is comparable to last years (which I doubt due to Mike Nolan's record of turning things around), our offense is capable of scoring fast and taking early leads in order to control the clock.

thanks tim ??? really ????,that was our best shower scene yet to date, where is the next one, how about nj ??

does sparano still call time outs when there are none left in the half and does he still try to throw the red flag onto the field for a replay challenge when they are all used up for the rest of the game.??

1-15

I take it that you don;t like Sparano much

Sean Smith is a fraud
I know all things dumb
Cuban Menace is sexy
I smoke polls
Take my ass for a ride

BuckeyeFinFan,

My bad, you're absolutely right about Favre (I was thinking about Big Ben). But yeah, they won't have Rice and maybe Harvin. And who knows if the Jets get Revis squared away by then (I'm thinking they will). So, these guys are bananas thinking we'll be that bad.

Thanks for the many comments and posts fellas.

Odin- You know it, Valhalla all the way! I appreciate the comments regarding "the wager" with NJP.

Justin- Maybe you did want BG first. No worries, I never track the timimg so much. Matters only that you picked the same wagon to roll in regarding the player.

Payuengsnwings- Good ta see you round man.

Carlito- Good ta see you too. You are correct sir, no crowning of ANY rookies this early. I just like what I see even if you and I see two different things. They did raise him past the Veteran DE J. Parker to first string so he must have done some things right. Cincy looks to be a tough squad this year it appears. T.O. will make some GMs probably wish they would have taken a chance on him.

Marc- I know you were around quite a bit when all the pre draft chats were raging. I just was giving you a shout out and realize you didn't woof on pre draft players.

la menaza- I have no doubt in my mind he would have razzed me something fierce. It's all good though. He was ultra commited to his guys/predictions and his own ability to eval talent just as anybody that digs in on a certain player(s). It made for some heated exchanges back then and now we get to see how it all unfolds.

Well duty calls so I catch y'all later.

Cheers,
