Live blog here to celebrate season ticket milestone

The Dolphins tonight celebrate their most important preseason game of 2010 and already they have good news on the horizon: The team will soon announce that it has surpassed the 50,000 season-ticket mark for the first time in the Bill Parcells era and the first time since 2007.

Although the club has not yet made it official, I'm told by several sources there is a sense of pride at the fact the local fans have seen fit to invest in season-tickets at a rate not seen in several years despite the tough economic times that plagues the nation and South Florida.

There is much work to do, however, for the Dolphins business side. While there has been a steady increase in the sale of tickets since they fell off the table following Nick Saban's departure, 50,000 to ,51,000 is not the goal. The club would like to be closer to 2006 levels and be in the 60,000s season tickets sold.

One supposes the success the team will have this year will go far toward determining that.

To that end, I present to you tonight's game.

Things to look for:

The secondary: Um, they've been pretty bad this preseason and now they're facing the best quarterback (Matt Ryan) they've seen so far and for a much longer period of time. The expectation is the Ryan will go at least one half tonight as will Miami's starting DBs.

[Update: Jason Allen is slated to start ahead of Sean Smith at RCB. Smith has been on notice all preseason that his job is at stake. Count this another strongly worded message that he needs to pull up and play better or he'll find himself coming off the bench when the season begins.]

To blitz or not to blitz: I've shared with you what the Dolphins' defense is going to be this year in previous posts. Attacking is the operative word. But this preseason the Dolphins have shown no blitzes with their first-team defense. Do they unwrap some of that package tonight? I do not know. But I'll be watching with interest to see how effetive Koa Misi and Jared Odrick can be when three or four of their teammates are also trying to bust down the offensive line wall along with them.

No injuries, please: That is a key goal. The coaching staff hasn't babied this team, but it has been cautious to avoid the physical, emotional, and psychological distress that a season-ending or other signifcant injury can have upon a team. Today the St. Louis Rams are sick at the loss of receiver Donnie Avery for the season. Teams that come out the third preseason game relatively healthy usually go into the regular season that way because the final preseason game is usually a passing excersize on the field. If Miami can escape this contest unscathed, that will bode wll for the opener.

Last minute news: Will Allen and Nate Garner are the only scratches for the Dolphins. That is interesting because it suggests Channing Crowder is dressed ... but he will not start. Tim Dobbins is starting for Crowder tonight. Jake Grove is starting at center.

So meet me at kickoff in the comments section for the live blog. It should be a hoot.

Brandon Marshall's stats 3 catches for 51 yards.

so which 2 out of wallace, turner, moore?

might go 6 wr we dont know

I'm telling you guys, I think that if they let Pat white play and stop f'ing with his head, he'll make more plays than any of these guys.
He just looks scared, like a dear in the headlights!
Sparano is like a dic"k"tator!

I can't wait for the season to start. this is torture.

moore is in, no doubt.

White = 100% completion percentage

Too little to late?

I don't think so.

Roberto Wallace and Moore should make this team. Wallace especially, like how this kid has played

Sparano is like a dic"k"tator!

better than a dicktaster

SuperPhin..you're right, but in preseason Penne has looked like he's making better decisions to me, I hope Henne gets his act together and starts playing like DAN DA MAN.

they may keep turner just because they drafted him. i'd prefer wallace.

For everybody saying Henne needs more time, THIS IS HIS THIRD YEAR. How much more time does he need? Another year? Look at Matt Leinart, does he need more time too? I'm a die hard Dolphins fan. I want Henne to do well. But he played a better defense tonight than last week and he wasnt consistent.

Pat White better enjoy the Miami weather cause it gets awfully cold in Canada. That's where his new home will be.

travis, there where NUMEROUS passes dropped. they could have done much better had those passes been caught.

Harrell go pound sand. It's the preseason. Henne will be fine. 3800 yards 24 tds 14 ints is my prediction for him.

need mo white!! micah looks like he will stay!! is it me or does denver grab up all our garbage!! wht not bellicheat's garbage?!

I hope oline didnt regress this year.

bobbyd12-you are a complete moron if you think another NFL team won't grab white IF we actually cut him which i don't think we will.

actually henne has made some plays but he is like my golf game, inconsistent.

Disappointing, 8-8 here we come

Pat White please come play for the Toronto Argonauts. Cleo Lemon is our quarterback and we need a better ex-dolphin to run our offense.

its like someone said early, we tinkering to much with the o-line, when the only battle should have been between jerry and thomas since it was obvious incognito was gonna start, just didnt know it would be the left side. this is clearly coach's fault for making up these fake competitions!!

Thigpen will be packing his bags for Buffalo, Cleveland or some othe team that has Wildcat plays.

We gotta stop dickin with the O-line. Pick a line already.

Good job Sparano. Pre-season or note, this is the same team that you will see during the reg. season. Nothing will change, same crap.

can't see game? is it over. what were white's stats?

white was perfect on passing attempts

there is ZERO chance pat white won't be on an NFL team. a week into camp he said he will do whatever the coaches needed him to do, and pre-draft he said he would consider a position change. some team will make him into what we should have from day 1.

Stay tuned!

which is???????????????? please finish your comment jaison

how many attempts? how many yards for white?

It was not a hoot. It Was A Violation Of The Geneva Convention Which Outlaws Torture Of Prisoners Of War.

kim bokamp just ask vonte will we see more blitzes and he had a big grin while saying stay tuned

when will the media start asking about the horrible OC play calling?

Henning is still bad.

Was that seriously Vontae talking during that interview or did someone from outerspace take over his mouth for 30 seconds?

If the Dolphins release Pat White, it'll be the biggest mismanaged player released by this team. He could be a star, if used properly and allowed to play.
Game plan for him, don't just put him in the wild cat and tell him to hand it off to Ricky.
Line him up in the spread and let him make things happen.

its like nat moore said during the game, nolan is being vanilla b/c he wanna see players make plays within a base defense without scheming for the other team, stating that its easy to get players off when you scheme vs. letting them freelance and make plays for themselves

pat whit is shining light for fins tonight .

Vontae had a pro bowl night. 7 tackles, 3 passes defensed, and 1 forced fumble.

yeah that was the real vonte talking

jaison biagini:

THATS the real truth...

I'm sure that White was asked, (at some point,) if he was open to switching positions -- and he refused.

That's never a good thing to do -- Especially on THIS team with THESE Coaches.

He Basically has given them no other options.

Sparano likes players that can do multiple jobs.

dan henning - LOL

but the media never questions why he sucks

Falcons give the Dolphins their annual beat down

Tonight's real storyline: #1 pick Oderick had 0 tackles and 0 assists.

Misi had 2 tackles and 1 assist in limited action. I know its only preseason but Oderick needs to step it up big time!

Pat White shining light....yea like the Northern lights, up in Canada, where Pat White will be playing shortly.

Yes, i know what you are thinking

"stfu test"
well fine, i will.

And sanchez is too sexy

What's with the bush league field?

Odrick 0 tackles!

jets lost 16-11

Do Ya think they should cut him??

Im sure if Odrick has another 0 tackle game most the fans on this blog will began labeling him bust. As for me, right now I'm not that concerned, yet. LOL

cut Odrick ,he's a real bust

Once again, a vanilla flavored preseason game where neither team looked all that sharp. Ryan was 50% (10 of 20) for just over a 100 yards... not a air show by a long shot. Hartline had some great catches as did Marshall...they looked good, Ricky Williams did great catching the ball out of the back field. I wish Sparano would pick the F***ING O-line and let um play. This in out in out in out rotation is causing way too many mental errors. Vontea Davis had a GREAT game. Yeah, he gave up a few play's... the what rules are written that is supposed to happen. Bell was solid as usual.

All and all I cannot see where CocoaJoe get Disappointing from a preseason game and throws out a number like 8-8. This was a game that was not game planned, it was not Film reviewed and had the entire week focused on working Atlanta's weaknesses. And we were a LONG WAY from getting blown out. For Gods sake Indy had 59 points laid on them a few nights ago... are they going 1-15? What about New England going down to the lowly Rams?..Should we shut the gates behind Brady and toss the key in the garbage?

Miami held a very fast teams 1st team players to 10 points. That is with ROOKIES starting at their positions. I see more positives then negatives here... But one negative I cannot tolerate AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE DEAL IS.... That's all the damn penalties... We lost points because of penalties tonight for sure.

Lastly, I will say this again, the guys in the booth and Vontea are telling the truth about what we are seeing. I saw the scrimmage and several of the practices. The defense is not showing ANYTHING that its working on. That is pure vanilla out there. Griese eluded to it several times because he knows also... This team has a bunch to show us. All and all I hate to lose... But I said last year Miami not losing one or two of their preseason games was bad. It gives a false perception to the new guys about the team and what can and cannot happen. Taking a loss now prevents a team let down by taking their first loss in the regular season. I hate to lose... but I think it will serve its purpose in practice and in the urgency these guys are feeling.

Cut the bust and use the money to buy turf your field.

DyingBreed: (@ 10:24 PM)

I know...
(and agree)

Thats the one of the more annoying things that I hate...
Putting up with. The Doom and Gloom Crowd.

As for Odrick...

He came from a 4-3 in College...and has said that this 'hold your ground and read' stuff that Nolen preaches is something that he's not yet used to...

Some say that it takes a 4-3 Player at least 24 games in the NFL to be competent with the skills required in a 3-4. If that's true then changes are that it will take a little time for him to develop.

People forget that they still have a young team.

I don't know if your just a little slow... or just being yourself and acting stupid... The Marlins play on the same field. Their Bran new park opens in 2012 then we get out football field back.

Until then... I hope everyone on any team other them Miami.."including yours"...who plays on our field breaks their friggin neck tripping on second base....

Sad but true, most our fans have 0 football knowledge and became fans because they either liked the uniforms or someone near and dear to them were Fin fans.

we are in the 2011 not 1923 and the field isn't green yet ,

may be marshall will take care of it from his 59 million ?

Odrick is going to be just fine... Let the damn team start playing the players who are going to be on the field the entire game and things will change for many of these guys. It must suck rotating in and out of a position and then having the guy you are playing against doing the same thing. I freakin hate preseason games for anything other then talent evaluation... you cannot really determine anything except if a guy is able to compete and deal with the speed of the game... other then that, it is a Jumbled up mess out there with guys going every which way.
