Sparano: Dobbins injury won't keep him out long

Coach Tony Sparano has addressed the media this morning and this is what I gleaned from the session:

The coach confirmed that inside linebacker Tim Dobbins will miss this afternoon's practice as he nurses an ankle injury he suffered during practice Monday night.  Sparano also suggested Dobbins won't be gone from the lineup very long.

"It shouldn't be long," Sparano said.

As you know, Nate Garner got repetitions with the first Monday night. "We're going to leave him there a little while," Sparano said.

Last year, Garner started four games at right guard and four at left guard. Working at right tackle since the start of training camp, Garner is now going to get a chance to compete. He had expected to compete for a starting job earlier but obviously did what good soldiers do and worked at tackle when coaches ordered him there.

The work for quarterbacks provides a hint of what the Dolphins are thinking about their signal-callers.

According to Sparano, starter Chad Henne has gotten 360 repetitions in practice before this afternoon's work. Tyler Thigpen is second with 274 repetitions while both Chad Pennington and Pat White have gotten 140 repetitions.

So obviously, the Dolphins are walking out their stated intention of having Henne as the starter and have been giving Thigpen as much opportunity as possible to win the backup job. Pennington, the more likely backup who doesn't need as much work, has not gotten as much work. And Pat White?

White is the fourth-stringer who needs to get much, much better to no only earn himself a chance to make the team, but simply earn himself more work in practice.

players will be cut w/no doubt ;

THIIGPEN
MOSES
NALBONE
J D FOLSOM
JASON ALLEN
HAYNOS

Jason Allen is a good special teams player and can fill in in the backfield in a pinch. Better to have him on special teams than to risk starters. For that same reason I think, contrary to most opinions here, we should have kept Ginn at least as a returner and occasional WR, rather than wear down starters on the returns.

THIS COACH SCREWED THIS TEAM THIS YEAR;
1-WAVIED GINN
2-SIGNED CHAD.P
3-DRAFTED MISI WHO'S GOING TO BE A BUST .

thigpen has value, wont be cut. chan gailey loves the kid from having him in kc.

aloco are u drunk? ginn was complete garbage.

ALoco,
are you getting your Misi info from Slum Sentinel?

Misi will be like Langford, a decent starter but not superstar.

I agree with Jaisons assesment of Thigpen that he should be the odd man out. It makes no sense to keep 4 QB's. From what I've seen of Thigpen,he is a qb that leaves the pocket to early, has no concept of making good decisions with the ball, and is an erratic passer. He does have the capability to scramble, and make big plays. But seems to like to gamble, and make to many turnovers. Now, obviously I don't get to make roster choices, and I'm not sure that Pat White is any better of an option at this point. The one thing that White has going for him is that someone was convinced he had skills that would fit into the plan here. The lack of snaps he had last year is hardly a barometer of what sort of player we thought we were getting. I think he deserves a chance to improve before he is labled a bust, and sent packing, a broken animal that is eaten by the wolf.

well waterbot i think all the bias fans earlier thought misi was the next lt. id have to say so far this draft probaly wont turn out very good. but time will tell. defense will have to get alot better to pass the jets or pats

TO ALL...LET SEE IN A WEEK .TED GINN WAS THE WORST THING HAPPENED TO FINS THIS YEAR.E'S A GREAT RETURNER .

Why so down on Msi...coaches seem high on him. He is a rookie, one has to consider future potential, not just his first training camp.

agree cinq, but how much will he help this year?? and they are gonna start him???? defense not looking good man

Many bloggers are too unrealistic, think every pick needs to dominate right from the get go and that we need to be 2 deep at every position with pro bowlers, that will never happen. Look at Aaron Curry, very high pick for Seattle was very mediocre last year. Mario Williams #1 overall took a couple of years to find his groove.

injures and more injures.I NOTICED THAT TED GINN NEVER WAS INJURED .NOW WE HAVE MARSHALL W. HIP OPARATION .

Bill, well I agreed that both Taylor and Porter were past their prime and needed to be replaced. The Jets were the only team knocking for Taylor so that right there says something, his only option was his least favorite team. Can't fill every spot with a top notch FA. So they are just following their plan, building through the draft, adding select FA's that make sense. Let's see how Msi does when the games are on and then judge.

CAN ANY ONE TELL ME WHAT THE BEST WAY TO GET CANTLOPE RIPE TO EAT .

slice it thin, stick it up your rear for 8 hours, then eat and enjoy.

KRUNK, YOU SOUND LIKE YOU DO PLUMBING .ARE YOU A PLUMBER ?

krunk, why you have to be a jerk ?

depends on her shape.

i leave the cantlope for 2 days in a closed car until you start to smell it ,it's ripe .onlt when the weather is above 80 .

Gee, do you think they start out 0-3 every year because they keep screwing around with the OL? Pick 5 be done already!

Some of the most interesting cantalope tips on this blog. Don't think I'm trying either.

any one knows how to get unripe banana to become ripe in one day ?

LMAO....very funny

Re Pat White: There is a reason why White isn't getting the reps and Thigpen is. And that reason is, Sparano regards him as the backup if Henne goes down. Got it?

Regarding the QB situtaion....

Thigpen has more value than White to our organization. Period. Pat White has shown NOTHING in practice to this point to warrent even being considered over CP. However, the Dolphins may trade CP IF they get a good draft pick for him and teams that need a smart, game manager just might offer a 3rd round pick for him. Which would make the 1.5 trade waiver a value. Obviously only a team looking for a starting quarterback would come off a pick like that. That may also depend on how he plays in pre-season

In this case they may keep White but may also find another veteran quarterback off of waivers without the need to invest a draft pick. I do admit this is a low possibility but is still a feasible scenerio.

Also, White is NOT going to return kicks play wide receiver. If they were going to keep someone on the roster to do that they would have kept Ginn.

So Tyler, Thigpen, and Penny stay in my opinion unless someone offers a 3rd rounder for Penny

this stuff about revis being the best d player is a bunch of CRAP, HE IS A CORNER BACK, IF YOU CAN'T STOP THE RUN OR RUSH THE QB IT DOSEN'T MATTER WHO YOUR CB IS AND THAT IS ALL THERE IS TO IT, JUST MY TAKE, OH AND PAT WHIE SUCKS PLEASE 26 plays and how many completetions enough said, but I am looking forward to the season

OKAY GUYS I NOW TO HAVE OFFICIAL THE ACCOUNT. DOES ANY PERSONS HERE TRULY THINKS THE DOLPHIN WILL BETTER THAN JETS IN NEWS YORK THIS YEAR /?

So much for Pat White becoming a game-changer... the dude can't even make plays in practice! I say it's time the Dolphins admit what we already know, that Mr. White is not NFL QB material, and that his best shot at making the team is learning the receiver position and possibly transforming into a poor man's version of Kordell "Slash" Stewart. At least that way he'll contribute to the team in some way, as opposed to being buried on the depth chart with no hope of ever moving up.
