ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Thank you, God. The 2010 NFL regular-season has arrived and so here we are. [I missed the 2009 season opener due to the passing of my mom. I'm thankful to be here today!]
First, let me tell you there will be a live blog here today.
Secondly, you might hear that there is uncertainty on the Dolphins part about the preseason that rookie Koa Misi had. Nonsense. It is true Misi may not start today. It is true Ikaika Alama-Francis will start today.
You know who will determine that?
The Buffalo Bills.
If the Bills come out in a run-package, Alama-Francis will get the call. If the Bills have pass-first personnel in the game, Misi will start. Either way, both will play a lot today.
It is no small accomplishment what Misi has done this preseason. He has gone for a down-lineman in college to a standup 3-4 outside linebacker. If he starts, he will be one of only three four rookie linebackers to start in the NFL on opening week.
Sean Weatherspoon of the Atlanta Falcons, Daryl Washington, and Rolando McClain of the Oakland Raiders are the other two. So Misi, a second-round pick, is in good company.
As you know, Jason Allen will start for Miami at RCB. That move is not written in stone, folks. Sean Smith, the starter in 16 games last season, will play today. And if he is playing better than Allen, he will take over. If Allen is playing better, he'll keep his jobs and his snaps.
It is a fluid situation.
It is a cloudy day here, with drizzling rain in the air. The temps are in the high 60s. Love it!
There are some number changes today: Interior lineman Cory Procter will wear No. 71 and defensive end Robert Rose will wear No. 56.
I will have the pregame inactives as soon as they come out. So come back. And remember, the live blog starts in the comments section at kickoff.
[Update: The inactives are Roberto Wallace, Channing Crowder, Rose, Alama-Francis, Jermey Parnell, Clifton Geathers and Thigpen as the third QB. Obviously, Misi will now definitely start. The Alama-Francis inactive is not expected. Hmmmm.]
[Update 2: Alama-Francis got sick this morning, which is the reason he is not playing today, The Herald's Jeff Darlington is reporting.]
[Update 3: The Dolphins are now confirming that Alama-Francis was expected to start this morning but is not playing because he got sick this morning.]

just like the dlphins to lay down now that is normal

Posted by: DSTAROK | September 12, 2010 at 04:01 PM
Mando,
Offense is scared and plays that way... they have gotten in Henne's head he is TERRIFIED to make a mistake or obviously throw the ball >10 yards to someone who is not wide open. Thats going to be difficult as we dont have recievers that get WIDE open... so he just checks off and throws the God forsaken screens to WR....its all about the defense this year boys until they reprogram Henne and let him THROW...

oldenglish nailed it, a w is nice but we tried to give it away... we do this against the wets or pats we are toast!
Posted by: bfish | September 12, 2010 at 04:06 PM
now my geart rate can go back to normal. how can a team look so good and barely win?î
Posted by: drbruce2 | September 12, 2010 at 04:06 PM
yes, the win is nice, but we beat a team some are pegging to go 0-16. barely. but our offence looked every bit as punchless as it was last year. i dunno if it's Henne or Henning, but if this is how the O operates all season, we're looking at nothing more than 1 7-win team again.
Posted by: Adam from Montreal | September 12, 2010 at 04:10 PM
im happy with this win. the D looked solid all day long. the O was pretty good in the first half, the special team coverage has improved dramaticly from the preseason, the rushing game was good in the end of the game, Henne made no mistake and i a solid if unspectacular game, and most of all WE WON ON THE ROAD IN BUFFALO and we are 1 and 0. Go Dolphins!!!! Go Henbe!!!!
Posted by: dolphininparis | September 12, 2010 at 04:14 PM
Well folks a win is a win/ We left two D td's on the field and two O td's on the field. Hopefully next game we will convert a couple of them. Our D looked great except on the one drive so lets be happy with this win/
Posted by: federico | September 12, 2010 at 04:17 PM
@ frederico, my feelings exactly
Posted by: hennegivenmonday | September 12, 2010 at 04:23 PM
a lot of good to take from this game. How did you like our defense? you have to feel good about them
Posted by: hennegivenmonday | September 12, 2010 at 04:25 PM
Anyone not happy with this win, do like a dreamcatcher and blow me. We won on all aspects of the game. What do you expect against a division rival ON THE ROAD? You need to understand the game of football before you offer your silly analysis! This was an impressive win. Lots for the Vikings to think about. We should have won by 2 more TDs (INTs), but that's how the cookie crumbles. We imposed our will on all sides of the ball, there's nothing to complain about here (people who do remind me of those lazy, fat people who were sitting in flying chairs in Wall-E). Eat your pollo con frijoles negros and shut the hell up!!
Posted by: DC Dolfan | September 12, 2010 at 04:27 PM
good win, however echoing many posters thoughts, henne needs to be let lose a little. our defense looks strong enough to overtake some mistakes, at least they were this gane
Posted by: deathlikebossk | September 12, 2010 at 04:27 PM
lets face it, our offense sucks and henning is doing nothing to change it or save us from a year of fourth quarter catastrophes. not one play over twenty yards, and no td passes. this was the bills. they wont win four games, so i wouldnt crown our defense just yet.
Posted by: inimounts | September 12, 2010 at 04:29 PM
i agree with the d was strong but against who. who everybody. the jills. we will see how are d does against the brettings next week. remember last time we faced him we picked him off 4 times. i am telling u right now if the weak jills can sack henne JASON ALLEN IS GOING TO BE DOING HIS CALF DANCE ALL DAY. MARK MY WORDS NO 69 is going to eat us alive.
Posted by: oldenglish | September 12, 2010 at 04:30 PM
we won. a win is a win. its the first game of the season. i'm happy we won. now let's get ready for the Vikes.
Posted by: DLT | September 12, 2010 at 04:31 PM
THIS IS THE NFL. If we can win the close games, we have a chance at the division. We're a young team, we're not blowing anyone away quite yet. But we're impressive. We play up to talent (as last year can attest, i.e. Saints, Colts). We looked MUCH better than the Colts in a road game against a division rival. And our defense was sick. Ok, they got a TD in the no huddle. EXPECT an NFL team to score at least 1 TD a game against us this year. As long as they don't score more than us, we're good, see how that works.
Posted by: DC Dolfan | September 12, 2010 at 04:32 PM
dc dolfan, no
offense but that is the dumbest most overly optimistic poo i have ever read.
who blows dreamcatchers? imposing your will on the bills? 5 points in second half, again....BILLS. my bad, you havent seen our next six games.
im worried.
Posted by: inimounts | September 12, 2010 at 04:33 PM
nice to win. dont know why Gailey didnt try to punt. still down 3. we'll take the win.
Posted by: mserrania | September 12, 2010 at 04:34 PM
Agreed. A win is a win. What are your impression of Henne? No turnovers, okay, but slo-mo replays showed he missed some opportunities to hit the receivers but held on to the ball a bit too long. Offense plays looked uninspired. Nothing creative. On the defensive end, Edwards going 7 for 7 for a TD was scary. Had this happen against Brady & the Pats, game would have been over by halftime. Otherwise, solid performance.
